I had several meals here and everything was wonderful. Hearty soups, solid steaks, lcoally sourced. The only downer was waiting and waiting for a hostess. Eventually, I had to hunt her down and I felt like the leader of the Donner Party when I returned to claps form the gathering waiting for amid day table.

First, you won’t find a more friendly bunch of employees! Everyone we had a chance to contact at the hotel were outstanding, polite and helpful. The surroundings are first class and, though showing some wear, the restaurant was nice and clean. As far as the food… well, it was about mediocre, but priced higher than some of the best restaurants I’ve visited in a larger city. IMHO, they’re banking on the popularity of the beautiful Gorge location and name Skamania in order to support the pricing. The prime rib was a thin slice cooked med well on the outside; rare at the center for $ 50.00 and the half-lobster was rather chewy and almost on the raw side at $ 25… Drinks were great and the price normal for the surroundings. I’d have been thrilled if the food was a better quality at a more reasonable price and much more likely to return.

Nothing to call mom about… Service: we asked to sit somewhere quiet and out of the way, they were more then accommodating; Dustin the server came to our table very quickly and was quite pleasant the whole meal; sold the menu, great work Dustin! STARFORSERVICE Restaurant: Very clean and well set up; nice place for date night. STAR Food: Presentation was great. STAR; Flavor was«O.K.», and over cooked. Dessert: Banana Crème Brûlée was awful. Never burn the sugar on earlier then serving time, everyone knows this fact; Lemon cello was mediocre; Not worth the price.

Crab Mac n Cheese was good. So was the bourbon cake. Atmosphere was nice but not fancy.

This is the first time we stayed here so obviously the first time eating here as well. The food was pretty tasty, to qualify that I would say after a bottle of wine most food is tasty! I had the pork chop and Colleen had the crab macaroni and cheese. They were both good! The por chop came with a spicy Apple glaze which was amazing! Typical sides of broccoli and a mash potatoes. I can’t say too much negative other than the pork chop was a little over cooked at the end and close to the bone was just on the verge of not being cooked enough. When you flame grill a bone in pork chop you have those issues. The desert was awesome as well. She had the bourbon cake and I had the banana crème brule. I liked mine more but probably because I ordered it. The staff was very inviting and just over all good people. Exactly what you would expect from a resort.

The Skamania Lodge is our favorite get-out-of-town getaway. We would make our reservations around their Friday night seafood buffet(which included a carving station offering prime rib). I believe they no longer offer the buffet on Friday nights. So we were looking forward to dining at the Cascade Room the Friday before Christmas for they were offering a Holiday menu. We expected prime rib(Christmas) but was so disappointed to find only salmon(devine!) and ham at the carving station. There was turkey(Thanksgiving) in the hot section… but prime rib(Christmas) was only available on Sunday night which we did not know when we booked. The dessert bar was slim pickings as well… only 5 selections available at our 7 pm reservation. Kudos to our favorite seafood station… which is always fresh and plentiful. $ 42 per person… for a Holiday menu… without prime rib(Christmas)? Still shaking our heads that the carving station was lacking.

Travis at The Cascade Room is amazing! He was tentative and personable. Really made us feel like special guests. He was quick to tell us if the kitchen was behind and our food was taking longer than expected. When the food came out, it was delicious. Great service. Great food. Thanks!

Was attending a conference and swung in for a dinner. Was seated promptly. The place wasn’t that busy, probably about ten tables seated. Did I mention that the Seahawks game was playing? Immediately I was greeted by the water person. A few seconds later the waiter took my drink order. If you follow my posts, I enjoy a rib eye steak… alas, no rib eye. Had to review the menu to see what tempted me. There was two items, the Lamb Chops and the Crab Mac and Cheese. I selected the lamb chops and a bowl of salmon chowder. I was quickly delivered some bread and olive oil. It was really good. My chowder arrived, and it too was delicious. I’m slowly took in my martini, chowder and bread. The main course, did seem to take awhile, especially since the place could have been considered empty. However, it did arrive, and was pipping hot. The presentation could be improved. The dish was served with something I need to described as cheesy grits, asparagus, and my chops. The grits covered the bottom of the bowl, almost an inch thick. The asparagus was on top of that, and the chops on top of that. In order to cut through the chops, I had to get the grits involved too. For a person who doesn’t like his food to touch, it was touching too much! Don’t get me wrong, it was all good, but I think I would have wanted them separated a bit more. I even enjoyed the cheesy grits, but frankly there was so much, I couldn’t eat them all. I was offered dessert, but was absolutely stuffed. If I’m ever in the area, I would return.

Wow, our second time experiencing the simply fantastic brunch and this time we took my sisters and their husbands. Wonderfully delightful… not only the delicious assortment of every kind of delicacies you can imagine but Mary Sue and Travis our servers were there for us making this truly an event not to forget. Thank you for a lovely Sunday! We will return! Rita Magionos 10/18/2015

Had a fabulous dinner and wonderful service! Travis was our server and a delightful young man. Our appetizer was unbelievable-pan seared scallops in a apple cider reduction with brussel sprouts!!! Only disappointment was they did not have Belvedere for my martini.

We recently stayed at the Lodge for our anniversary, and we ate at the Cascade Room for dinner both nights. Our waitress, Marice, was the highlight of both evenings and kept the rating at a two star instead of one. The kitchen was very accommodating of my gluten allergy and have a clearly labeled gluten-free menu. The food, however, was really disappointing and overpriced. My Sunday Prime Rib was bland, cold and underwhelming. The next night, I had scallops appetizer and beet arugula salad. The scallops were too salty and had a sweet flavor that I did not like(and I love salt!). The veggies that came with the scallops were a little overcooked and lacked freshness and flavor. The food reminded me of subpar buffet or banquet type food. The worst part was the oil they served with the bread before dinner. I tried a little on a spoon and it tasted like rancid vegetable oil that had some olive flavor added. I immediately sent it back to the kitchen! The oil sums up the quality of the ingredients at this place — cheap. The bottom line is, if you are going to charge that much for your food, you can afford to make it fresh and delicious! Otherwise, you will continue to receive 1 – 2 star ratings. Unfortunately, there are not many other options for dining in the area, this is the only reason we ate here in the first place.

The food here was just OK. Got the mini sliders, the toasted buns were actually burnt and black. Not that great. The coolest part about lunch was that they had a bird show outside on the patio. That was really neat to see all the different wild birds that the people have brought.

On a whim, we decided to take a trip out to Skamania Lodge for a nice dinner. Neither of us had eaten there before, but we figured the food must be excellent since it was located in such a beautiful place. We were greeted by the two hostesses who were very sweet and we enjoyed visiting with them before we were seated. Once we walked into the dining room, we were awed by the beautiful room with its majestic views of the mountains of the gorge. Our expectations were very high, and boy were we hungry Upon being seated, we were promptly greeted by the busboy, who brought us menus and water. He was great, too! Everyone was just so nice. Then comes our server. There’s nothing I love more than having a friendly, attentive server. I can overlook less-than-excellent food if it’s served by an awesome server. However, this guy should really be at a car dealership pushing used Hyundais or Toyotas, than waiting tables. Just out of the gate, he started rambling on and on about EVERY freakin’ thing on the menu. My partner wanted to order the pork chop, and he wanted it cooked well-done. The server — for some reason — went on some rant about how they check their meat to ensure its cooked, and some other stuff, and more stuff, and blah, blah, blah… It was almost as if he was trying to start an argument with my partner about why he shouldn’t order the pork chop well-done.(Hey buddy, if we want to order it RAW then that’s OUR right — we’re the ones spending $ 30 for a piece of meat, not you!) We decided we wanted to order a bottle of wine. The server started rambling about ALL their wines and proceeded to fill us full of facts about the wines, and how the Rosé came from Oregon’s highest altitude winery. And this and that, and that and this… Yada, yada, yada… I ordered the oatmeal and pecan crusted rainbow trout. What I received instead was something that tasted like hospital food. It was void of flavor and slimy. My partner’s pork chop was great. I had a risotto with my fish that was excellent. But it’s a sad state of affairs when your side dish blows the main course out of the water. Slimy, bland fish for $ 27. Usually, I would complain to the server, but I just didn’t have the energy to deal with this man. He exhausted us. At one point, my partner had to just rudely shut the guy off because he wouldn’t quit rambling. Ordering desert was even a challenge. He just felt the need to fill us up with detail after detail about the food. His energy level was just off the charts and we couldn’t wait to leave. We had the smores skillet. It was extremely rich — too rich, in fact, and we couldn’t finish it. Imagine melting 20 entire hershey bars and throwing a few marshmallows on top of it. It at least served the purpose of erasing the sad fish flavor from my mouth. Would we come back? Uh… I don’t think so. And that man was one of the most annoying servers I’ve ever come across, Later on in the night, that fish came back to haunt me. I’m glad I was in our hotel room with the bathroom nearby.

Enjoyed a lovely stay at Skamania Lodge but Cascade Dining room was a disappointment. We had dinner Friday night and breakfast on Saturday. On both occasions the food took forever to arrive and in both cases the food arrived Luke warm to cold. The wait staff were great and reheated or remade our dinners promptly and picked up the cost of the cold meals. But it makes no sense since the restaurant was not busy and there was plenty of staff. We have reservations for brunch on Sunday. Hoping they can do a better buffet. Stay tuned for my review. Sunday morning brunch was very good. Omelet station, carving station and seafood bar were all good. Staff was excellent. Come for the brunch, just be warned about dinner.

We ordered the ribeye which was recommended by the waiter. We asked for medium rare and got rare. So cold inside that the butter slice on top didn’t melt. The cut of meat itself was fatty and quite tasteless for a $ 45 steak. I can’t imagine worse. Must have been one very tired old cow. That said, the service was great. Lots of local wines to choose from

Do not go here for brunch! Last Saturday at 10:40, my friend and I went to Skamania Lodge to eat in the bar, but sadly and ridiculously, they didn’t open until 11am and we were crunched for time. The bar menu, food, drinks and service are great at the bar! Especially the Bloody Mary’s. So this was a real bummer. We decided then to eat at the restaurant. We were disappointed again when we went into the Cascade Room to eat breakfast. We had asked for menu’s, the staff said all they had was a buffet for $ 16.50. The food at the buffet was boring and bland with no creativity. It was less than average — fruit, muffins, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon & sausage and potatoes. No salmon, no omelette station. Then because the hosts or «servers» were young(under 18), we waited 15 minutes for a Bloody Mary. We had also asked three different servers! By the time the Bloody Mary’s arrived, our food was half eaten. The worst, was when we looked around — near the big windows to see that other patrons had ordered their food from menus! At this point, we were upset because we felt baited into a lousy buffet. We then called a server over to complain and they pretty much shrugged it off. Our bills each, were $ 30 for a crappy breakfast, bad service and slow to order Bloody Mary’s. If you do not have children… save your self and eat in the bar. Seriously Skamania, I expected way more from you! And we did complain about being baited into the buffet because we DID ask for menus. Don’t you think we deserved a comp? And you really need to open your bar earlier than 11 on the weekends. Completely unacceptable!

The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and professional and the views were beautiful. The food — on the other hand — was remarkably disappointing, dry, bland, and overpriced.

Five of us had brunch here last Sunday; the weather was perfect, which always makes the day better. It also helps a meal. We were there for Sunday brunch. They always have lots of choices. This time was no different. I think my impression of this place is colored by my choice to try to eat healthier. There was fruit and it was what you would expect from a place this large. My wife tells me there was one green salad, although I missed it. I did see one dish labelled as steamed vegetables. Thus, if you were vegetarian, this was not the place to go. It also reflects on our preference for meat and bread, even through there were fewer bread/sweet roll choices. There had fresh crab, that we good. The roast beef was excellent, as was the ham. They had an omelet bar, that looked good. I did not try it because omelets are never my favorite. They had good waffles, but no pancakes. The french toast looked like it came out of a package; i skipped it. The clam chowder was very good and the seafood Newberg was also good. In short, if your preference was for meat or eggs, they did a good job. Some was excellent. Of course, they had a dessert bar. It was OK; I would describe it as ordinary. Canned peaches in a peach cobbler are still canned peaches. They serve sparkling wine and mimosa to your heart content. Better yet was the Bloody Mary bar. You can have it with or without salt. You can choose a spicy or non-spicy vodka. I chose spicy. You then get to choose whatever you want to garnish it. The choices include the ordinary, asparagus and celery, or the faddish, bacon and blue cheese. There are lots of choices. For a brunch, this is OK and I am sure we will be back. I think it is an improvement over the last couple of times we were there. It will never be a substitute for Rebecca’s cooking, even when it is just pancakes, a fried egg and bacon on a lazy Sunday morning.
