I called Mother Mousse in Grant City, Staten Island. My daughter-in-law was to have a baby girl shower at a restaurant and besides the cake, I decided on 100 baby girl cookies that I had found on their website. I placed the order by phone without a hitch. Later that week my son stopped by to tell me he gave me the incorrect spelling of the baby to be’s name(argh!) I called Mother Mousse back and a young lady answered. I said, I’m terribly sorry but I need to change the name on a cookie order, please spell«Lily«with two ll’s.(There was plenty of time, two weeks until the shower). The girl on the phone merely replied, «O.K», and started to say goodbye. I hesitated and asked her if she wanted my name, and she said, «O.K.» After giving my name I wasn’t confident the young lady documented the name change so I asked her if I might speak with the lady who took my order or the manager. She complied. I apologized for taking up any of the manager’s time but explained that I wanted to be sure the baby name change would take place. She said«No problem». Outcome: Despite my paranoia about the name change, the cookies were beautifully done and according to our guests, absolutely delicious. Mother Mousse allowed my husband to pick up the cookies etc. a few hours before the shower. They were beautifully packaged, intrinsically designed and tied with pink bows. They are really a class act, professional and cordial with their customers. Thank you Mother Mousse . BTW, several family members have ordered shower cookies after Lilly’s shower !

I’m so disappointed in this location’s poor customer service. I usually go to Victory but called Hylan instead to preorder several dozen cookies. I was told they have«many cookies» and to just«come in.» Hmmm… Despite this, I went in and spent over $ 100 on cookies in three boxes — occupying both my hands. After completing my transaction, the blue-haired counter worker did not help me with the door, instead leaving me struggle to my car alone. She saw I was struggling and cookies break easily. Furthermore, while I was grateful she was cleaning, she was haphazardly spraying Windex all around open food, instead of spraying it on the paper towel. Gross. MM — you are not the only bakery on SI, by far. I won’t be returning until you improve your customer service significantly.

Purchased a strawberry shortcake this weekend. It looked beautiful. It was a little pricey for a small cake for $ 26. The cake was tasty but the real star was the pastry cream in the middle. I wish there were more strawberries inside of the cake, but overall we were all pleased and it was all gone before the night was over.

Wicked women. Bitter, unfriendly, unprofessional, women. Inhospitably inflexible, curt, verbally hurtful, incompetent /unkind @ customer service, unkind, penny-pinching, fairly miserable, and generally obnoxious. These are a mélange of the nicer adjectives that I’d use when describing my unfortunate dealings with the mean-girl crew at our local mother mousse on Hylan blvd. Why be so mean /indifferent to your client-base? You’re products are a 5⁄10 at best when they’re fresh; however, the blunt truth is that the offerings are almost always stale… especially their signature sugar cookies, which are down-right inedible, chemical in taste, and rock-hard. In any case, i’ll ignore the dozen times I’ve been here in the past, which is mainly due to the fact that they have been the only game in town for a long time & they only gradually become so unprofessional. I’d like to focus on how they embarrassed my mother the other day when she was running a couple minutes late to pick up a cake at closing time yesterday. Regardless of having prepaid for it, they repeatedly exclaimed how if she arrived at any point past their 4PM cut-off time that they would simply throw out my little sister’s birthday cake. Ridiculous! — a) they of course refused to stay for 5 minutes past 4 o clock, which I understand, considering the grade of people we’re dealing with here. however,(b) they even refused to leave it outside in a shopping bag, which we accepted responsibility for. Bigger NO. & then, c) can you leave it with your co-tenant business next door & we can pick it up from them? Nope. Not happening. Thankfully, Mom got there in the nick of time to grab the cake. Thus, happy ending for us… less of a happy ending for Mother Mousse… they just lost the business of yet another family of 6 people.

By far my favorite place for cookies on Staten Island. I’ve gone there several times to have custom decorated cookies made up and haven’t been disappointed ever. My fiancé is an electrician and they replicated the tools he works with into a cookie(mini gift for a promotion), and he absolutely LOVED them(so much that I’m still hearing about that). I also had cookies made for my bridesmaids when I asked them to be in my wedding. Their dress-like cookies were adorable! I look forward going back to Mother Mousse for other occasions such as my bridal shower as well! No one ever hated getting a cookie as a takeaway!

I really only buy their mousse cakes and special order cakes. I think they do those very well. I especially love the chocolate mousse cake. Creamy mousse and nice crust inside with chocolate-covered ganache. Well done. Although I haven’t seen that cake again. I’ve had the key lime pie mousse cake. That is the office favorite. The chocolate, vanilla and cappuccino mousse cake is a safe bet and crowd pleaser as well as the crumb cheesecake. I have ordered strawberry shortcake birthday cakes(which are not mousse cakes) and those are fresh and delicious. As far as cookies go I am not a fan(just too sweet) so stick with the cakes. Sometimes customer service is just okay but I am there for their cakes. I hope this review helps and I’m happy to have found this little gem.

On my second visit, I thought I should go for the signature dish. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake. Yep, they know how to do mousse. Not only was it pretty, with chocolate rosettes, it was completely delicious — creamy mousse on a chocolate cookie crust. So good!
