Very cute café with extremely friendly staff! There was a baby shower going on when we were there on a Saturday afternoon, but the visit was still very pleasant and was a great place to catch up and relax. I’m always trying to look for non-chain restaurants on the island and would definitely recommend this place. Plus that they gave us complimentary fruit and pound cake to start off.

My daughter and I were looking for a well-Yelped lunch spot and took a chance on the Harvest Café(subliminally influenced by the gorgeous fall foliage and plethora of pumpkins we’d been seeing around S.I.). Don’t be deceived by the neighborhood, which is mostly residential – the Harvest Café is in fact in a large house. We parked on the side street and were immediately impressed by the décor(I break for anything purple, and who doesn’t love cloth napkins?). An attentive, smiling young gentleman took care of seating/water/menus, and our charming server even had a flower in her hair. They were serving brunch, which doesn’t always excite me, but before we could even scan the offerings, a complimentary plate of fresh melon slices and homemade pound cake appeared before us. Good omen! We ordered the veggie frittata(huge and delish) and side salad(impossibly fresh), and the grilled chicken wrap(perfect) with fries(tossed in rosemary – yum). We had to wrap up half of each meal to save room for their«sweet endings” – apple cake with crumbly topping made in-house and chocolate ice cream. Fifteen bucks each! The best part may be that the Harvest Café is run under the auspices of A Very Special Place, an organization that provides job training in the hospitality industry for disabled people. Our whole experience was a delightful, giant WIN. Well worth the VNB toll any time – can’t wait to go again. PS: Wheelchair-accessible.

Delightful! Stopped in to have a late breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the menu choices. Ordered the Sunnyside egg over polenta made with mascarpone cheese– delish!!! And the portion was enough for two easily. Service by the Very Special Place staff was friendly and very accommodating. Going back to have dinner!

My boyfriend & I stopped by Harvest Café to his grandma out to brunch, and we were really happy with our experience. The café is cute(though on the small side — maybe enough room for 30 diners max), looks like it was recently remodeled, the service is super friendly!, and the food was very good. My crab cake benedict was delicious — really crab, too, no fillers. And the sweet potatoes that come with breakfast are addictive! I would definitely recommend Harvest Café for any meal.

The food was fantastic! Great service. Shannon the manager was very welcoming and polite. Nick the chef cooked one of the best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a long time. Breakfast was delicious. The bussers and servers were very helpful. I will definitely be back to try their lunch specials.

Where did this fantastic little place come from, and how haven’t I heard of it until just now? I’ve lived in New Dorp my entire life, played many softball, soccer and flag football games at Miller Field, and played lacrosse games against New Dorp High School over the years. But I’ve never seen the Harvest Café, nor have I been there, until recently. Is it new? I hope so, because I’ve been missing out, otherwise. Harvest Café is an adorable restaraunt that immediately makes you feel welcomed as soon as you walk through the door; it’s food with a mission: the establishment offers numerous positions to developmentally disabled people. The young woman who poured our coffee and brought our drinks was literally the sweetest girl I’ve ever met. I’m really not the sentimental type, but every time she came by to ask if we needed anything, I felt unfamiliarly fuzzy and couldn’t help but smiling. The menu items are all extremely reasonably priced, and the portions are more than satisfying. Also, the food is delicious! I went with my brother and my father for breakfast and, even though they were closing in thirty minutes for a private party, they allowed us to sit, made accommodations for us, and did not rush us when we stayed past the allotted time. They just asked us to beg their pardon while they rearranged all the tables. My father ordered fench toast(which I totally stole a bite of, because it looked delicious… and it was), my brother had pancakes, and I had a healthy, wholesome, «harvest omelette» that consisted of egg whites and mouthfuls of veggies — spinach, tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. Also, they have sweet potatoe home fries. I’ve had sweet potatoe French fries before, but I didn’t know sweet potatoe breakfast fries even existed. They tasted great. I can’t wait to go back and try the lunch and dinner menus. Harvest Café is an endearing, charming place that everyone should patronize. You can’t go wrong. The food is great, the service is great, and the entire concept is one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. I have a developmentally disabled person in my immediate family, and I understand the difficulties involved in finding them a place in society where they can feel welcomed, while still being able to function and contribute. The Harvest Café is going to be a place that I frequent for a long time to come.

My husband and I came to Harvest Café for Brunch today. We both have a very good impression with the place, from the cleanliness, the service, to the food. HC is a warm little café that has a warm atmosphere. The host and server were really friendly. The food were good quality and good portion. We had the pretzel crusted chicken sandwich and the turkey with brie sandwich. Both of them were very good. Hubby and I are both quite picky about coffee, and we both agree that their coffee is really fresh and strong, just the way we like it. Overall, you could certainly tell that this place care about their food and customer. I would come back again to support a good café with good food, for a good cause. P. S. I believe they also do catering and private party as well.

Harvest Café is a great place to grab a high quality, great priced meal. Besides that they are owned and operated by A Very Special Place«whose goal is to create new opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.» The menu is small but offers a wide variety — from soup to salmon. They are open Monday through Saturday. Breakfast and lunch 8:30 — 3:30 and dinner Friday and Saturday only 4:30 — 9:30. I’ve been to the café several times and was there again for first time in over one year today. Their french onion soup is the best I’ve had and their burgers are exceptional — if you are looking for delicious burger that will hit the spot you have to try their burger. It’s served on a brioche roll with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and seasoned fries(yummy). I’ve had quite a few items on the menu and I have never been disappointed, always pleased! Portion size is much more that adequate, service is wonderful, café is very clean, and again the cause makes it better than exceptional. I would recommend the Harvest Café to anyone looking for a great meal.

Chef Burmeister from Chow Gourmet(RIP) on Forest Avenue is back! After seeing an article about this place and their mission I decided to check it out. Upon looking at their menu online I realized that The Pretzel Club lives on! This is an amazing sandwich which features pretzel crusted chicken cutlet, slab bacon cooked to crispy perfection, lettuce, tomato and a smoky tomato spread all on a pretzel bun. This is a must try! They also offered interesting desserts like cheesecake soufflé and crème brûlée and specials such as a soft shell crab BLT which intrigued me… But I was itching for a pretzel club since it had been over a yet since I have indulged. There is seating available on the front porch overlooking Miller Field and nice décor inside. The staff and service was excellent and I can’t wait to go back! This has the potential to be a 5 star place for me once I try some more of the menu, since I was already familiar with the sandwich I ate.

Harvest Café is a cute little café run by A Very Special Place, Inc. This a great place that works with people with disabilities who receive vocational and occupational training to prepare them for work in the food and restaurant industry trained by skilled restaurant personal. After a friend told me about this place we stopped by for lunch one day, and the food was great and so was the service. They have a small menu but everything is such high quality. They had salads and sandwiches for lunch which were really good, and they had this great salad/sandwich combo which was just the right about of food. They are open for b’fest and lunch 830 to 330, and the harvest café is def worth checking out for a nice little meal. Good food, good cause can you really go wrong?
