Chul Kyun Park, MD

I was privileged last week to observe Dr. Park as he was the anesthesialogist for my 3 grandchildren who were all having ear tube surgery. He was amazing — very good with kids, getting down to their level & establishing a bond so quickly that both the 3 & 5 year olds went willingly away from their parents & me and holding his hand walked straight into the surgery room without needing a «cocktail» drug first! Dr. Park checked in with us regularly throughout each procedure and a couple times before we left. He is gentle, kind and obviously very skilled. Thanks Dr. Park for making the experience so positive for us as well as for the kids!

Dr. Park was friendly, caring, open, and professional. His demeanor allowed my mom to feel at ease and confident going into her full knee replacement surgery. He answered her questions thoughtfully, thoroughly, expertly, and in a manner that she understood. She felt a lot better knowing she would be receiving a spinal anesthetic as opposed to a general anesthetic.
He called to ask her to complete the pre-​op questionnaire – adding a personal touch to standard procedure. He also stopped by her room after her surgery and recovery to see if she was doing ok and if she needed anything. We couldn’t ask for a better anesthesiologist for this procedure! Dr. Park was the anesthesiologist during an extensive shoulder surgery performed by Dr. Frank Chen at the Fremont Surgery Center. I had never had surgery and was quite apprehensive. Dr. Park figured that out right away. He talked through everything that was going to happen, showed me why the nerve block he would do beforehand was safe and going to be really effective at limiting pain for the twelve or so hours after surgery. He talked with genuine interest making me feel like I was going to be treated very well.
He’s clearly skilled at his medical discipline but has developed a keen sense for the emotional dimension of his work. He’s the last person you see and the first when you wake up so you want your anesthesiologist to give you a lot of confidence. Dr. Park does that. (In my case however he promised that the first person I’d see would be my fiancé and he delivered. He went and fetched her from the waiting room and put her front and center in the recovery room.)
After surgery he called multiple times to check on me. He knew that the surgery had been more extensive than anticipated and wanted to ensure the pain medication was providing the right relief. He worked with me to get just the right cocktail of medications to get through the first few days when things are difficult.
We don’t usually have much say over who will be the anesthesiologist on our surgical teams. Too bad because I’d pick him immediately.
Someday late in the summer I’ll be on the tennis court again and he’s on my list to invite to hit some balls. And if I ever need surgery again I’ll see if I can get him on my team.
