This is the only place I go for sushi in Springfield. It’s all fresh and they have different rolls for the weekly specials. The miso soup is delicious. Can’t ever go without ordering it. My favorite rolls are a mix of classic raw maki and cooked(baked) rolls. It’s worth the extra buck or two for some of these special rolls! Sometimes the staff is a little slow to refill your beverage, but once it’s brought to their attention they will come back more frequently.

The service is always friendly, whenever I walk in the sushi chefs behind the counter always give an emphatic hello, and a smiling server seats us. The crab miso is delicious and arrives quickly and so do the rolls! Overall satisfied with the food and service. Recommend coming here often especially if you live in Springfield!

I’ve never been disappointed when eating at Osaka. I love how petite their restaurant is and it surprisingly gives a really unique Japanese vibe to me. Their food is so delicious and well priced. It’s placed right next to Springfield town center so it’s really convenient for hungry shoppers. Make sure to give their bento boxes a try!

One of my favorite restaurants in the world, and I’ve been everywhere. First time I came here, I was a boy, in 1995. It was my first time having Japanese food. It was great then and it is amazing now. MY favorite things here are Osaka Super Dragon roll, crab miso, shrimp teriyaki and sashimi.

Yum! Came here after a long day of shopping at springfield mall(sorry, this gal grew up in springfield and it will ALWAYS be mall and not towne center to me). Was impressed by the wide array of sushi rolls. Wanted to try all of them. My favorite is the tnt roll and the hot night roll. Both are spicy and delicious. Lasana roll was ok. 007 roll was a little bland and the bay roll was too overpoweing with old bay. A little less old bay and I think it would have been better. Came back again and got the tnt roll again the kabuki roll. YUM! I think my go to roll is the tnt roll. So good! Will definitely keep coming back. :) Friendly waitstaff.

This is my family and I’s favorite Japanese restaurant! We always go here if we’re craving sushi and Japanese food. It has been our #1 go-to for years. As soon as we walk in, we are always greeted by the chefs behind the sushi bar. The place is clean with good lighting and nice décor. It has that cozy, homey feel that I really like. As for their food, I always get their lunch box special. It comes with shrimp and vegetable tempura, chicken teriyaki with rice, California sushi rolls and gyoza for only $ 9.95 if you come during the lunch hour, which I think is a good deal. It actually used to be $ 7.95 before they raised the prices. My parents get the sukiyaki noodle soup, udon and tonkatsu. I’m not a big fan of their soups, but the tempura and sushi rolls are my favorite. The tempura is crispy and flavorful. The sushi rolls are what keep us coming back and has got to be our favorite! I always get the eel, crab stick, ebi(shrimp) and of course, the California sushi rolls. I honestly haven’t found a sushi place that comes close to how their sushi tastes like. Amazingly fresh and delicious! If we order a certain amount of food, they give us complimentary miso soup and salad. I’ve been trying to replicate their(ginger?) salad dressing. It’s so tasty, I love it! Even if I’m not a big salad person, I can eat it endlessly with this dressing! Always a pleasant experience here and we’ll definitely be back for more!

Great selection for sushi. I ordered a shrimp roll, crunch yellowtail, and shared a few others. They were delicious. Some of the best sushi I have had in the area!

Pleasantly surprised! I’ve been here before years ago and didn’t remember being so impressed. Nothing negative, just didn’t think I had much reason to return. Maybe due to the location being by formerly Springfield mall, since renovated Springfield Town Center. I ordered the salmon lunch box and a sushi app. Everything was delicious! The sushi was amazingly fresh and tasty. I especially enjoyed the crab sushi which was way higher end quality than most imitation crab sticks. It may have even been the real thing. The box itself was more than I could eat. The app dumplings that come with were to die for. The tempura was light and crispy and the miso soup was one of the best I’ve had. I had to box up the rice and salmon but not without first taking a bite! Cooked to perfection with the crispy bit of skin to add to the party. They finished it off with just enough of a sweet honeydew melon to seal the deal. All of this plus a hot green tea for $ 20?! You can’t beat it! Wish I would photographed the meal.

Has the sushi lunch platter. It was perfectly ok. Nothing to write home about but I’ll be back.

This is one of my favorites Japanese restaurant in the area. They have amazing miso crab soup and really good teriyaki dishes. Sushi isn’t my favorite here, but it’s good too. The staff is good but I think they could improve when it comes to waiting the tables. I do recommend if you love teriyaki food!

I used to come here with my parents many many years ago. My parents liked it a lot. I remember it being good, but not the best thing ever. We only ordered sushi. Since then I moved to the West Coast and then back to the Washington DC area. I am rarely in the Springfield area and had completely forgotten about this place until a Saturday that the rain had my mom and I stuck in Springfield for a bit. We were in the area needing to kill time until the rain died now. And ended up driving right by Osaka. We couldn’t remember it all that well, but decided to relive our memories and enjoy an early dinner. We arrived right when they reopened for dinner, and surprisingly it was already starting to get pretty busy. The restaurant looked exactly like we remembered it. It has a very dim and traditional Japanese restaurant feel. We ordered: Sashimi/Shrimp Tempura Dinner Combination(Includes Soup, Salad & Rice) Alaska Roll(California with Avocado and Salmon) Crunchy Spicy Tuna Seaweed Salad(Large Size) The combination was very good. The tempura was perfectly crispy and hot. The sashimi selection was fresh and delicious. The rolls were also very fresh. They had the perfect fish to rice ratio. I hate when sushi rice is rolled too thick, but here it’s perfect. The large seaweed salad is actually the standard size at other Japanese establishments. The seaweed salad was very good though and not drenched in dressing like some places. It was the perfect amount. Prices are reasonable. Parking is easy. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Service is very good. I will say, this time around I was impressed. And we suddenly remembered why we used to frequent this place. I definitely see us coming back again.

Sushi/sashimi isn’t the best I’ve ever had but it’s good and haven’t found anywhere closer in Alexandria yet. No teppan/hibachi if that’s what you’re looking for. The sushi bar is small with only 6 – 8 seats so the place has an intimate feel but plenty of room for a private conversation.

Now that Springfield Town Center(Springfield Mall) is open with many new restaurants Osaka is getting slammed on weekend nights. When the other restaurants have waiting lists the overflow is coming to Osaka. Be prepared for slower than usual sushi orders as it is difficult for the chef’s to keep up with the orders coming in hand over fist. I still love this place immensely but I am saddened that they no longer carry white tuna. Alas, the Snow Mountain Roll is off the menu.

Place is Good, But Not Great. Definitely not great after suffering from food poisoning earlier in the week of my own home cooking. Went here for the first time for lunch. The menu is solid. Like others said, you get a soup and salad with the meal. I came in still suffering from food poisoning earlier in the week after I cooked some spoiled fish. So when I was asked to meet friends here for obviously sushi among other things I was like ‘c’mon man!‘ I got the steak/beef plate. You basically get 6 pieces of sushi, 2 dumplings, some steak, some rice, and some fried shrimp on a stick. The presentation is a big A+. My problem was that the steak was tough to chew. I wound up spitting some out and leaving it in a napkin lol. I probably should have gotten chicken. I wish you received more food, but I doubt I would eat it all on this particular occassion. The bill with tip was an even $ 15. I guess it is good for the area. I would have liked to try something similar to hibachi or something heated. Will I be going back? Probably. But I will definitely be going with a less upset stomach and will be trying something else. This place is probably great to take a date too. The girl will probably be impressed lol.

It may have just been that they don’t do lunchtime well, but I was less than impressed by my meal. That said, I don’t think it was just a lunch thing. Rice is pretty basic and fundamental if you’re eating nigiri(or even rolls). The rice here was pretty poorly executed. Almost seemed like it might have been the wrong kind of rice and wasn’t prepared with an adequate amount of vinegar. Why I’d wondered if it was a lunch-rush issue is because, when we sat down, all of their fish had been pre-cut. Leaving fish pre-cut makes it lose its flavor, quickly — over-exposure to air tends to blunt fish’s flavor and pre-cutting it means an entire block of fish now has lots and lots of oxedizable surface-area. Fail. I mean, I understand you want to be able to quickly churn out the rolls you’re slinging for take-away service, but don’t make your eat in customers suffer from it. On the plus side, they sell by the piece. So, you can get a lot more variety on your plate without having a massive plateful of stuff.

Nice, thick cuts of sashimi make me happy. I was very happy at Osaka. Great service, delicious sushi/rolls/sashimi/tempura, yummy hot tea! BTW, who goes to an Asian restaurant and puts sugar in their tea!!! SMH. I’ve been here twice now and will definitely be back…

With so many Japanese options available in the area, I found this experience to be mediocre. The lunch special of sushi and sashimi included miso soup and a very small portion of salad with ginger dressing. The fish did not smell or appear fresh. I will not be coming back. $ 15 spent and was still hungry afterwards.

In search of take-out sushi places that were open for lunch on a Sunday, we hit the jackpot at Osaka in Springfield. They hold a happy hour of their basic sushi rolls all day on Sunday and parts of Monday, and then during some evenings. We enjoyed several rolls at lunch time. We also ordered some take-out for a gathering at our home. They will honor the happy pricing for take-out. It saved us a bunch of money. The servers were attentive, our glasses were always refilled. The food arrived quickly despite some of the bigger groups in the restaurant.

I really like Osaka. It’s my go-to for sushi in Springfield. They are very nice, the restaurant is meticulously clean and there are so many options on the menu there is something for everyone! There specialty rolls are my favorite. They have a mean spider roll and a spicy tuna one that is delish! They also run a great happy hour. I am very much a fan.

Sadly time to update my review. I’ve been coming to Osaka for years and have always considered it a great place to feed my cravings for raw fish. But the last several visits have really been more disappointment than delight. Most recently my tuna was certainly not the best of maguro cuts — lacking that nice reddish pink color, my salmon pieces were not firm and to a certain extent were somewhat falling apart when I picked them up, and the hamachi had a definite unwelcome chill to it. Plus the proportion of fish to rice in the nigiri is way off with the fish in some cases almost 3 times size of the rice ball under it. I appreciate the generosity I guess — but I ordered nigiri not sashimi — and I value the presentation of my sushi only second to the freshness of the fish. On the plus side I tried out the Sweet Potato /zucchini roll as I have a friend who likes sushi but doesn’t like raw fish. The roll was a surprising highlight of my meal. Prices have crept up here over the years and its not the hidden value gem it once was. But the staff largely just seemed tired this last visit, definitely not the friendly and welcoming I’ve come to expect. Hordes from the nearby mall seem to have not discovered Osaka, so I’ll still be by for a meal from time to time, but its no longer the 5-star I once felt it was. And there are much better sushi options in the general area that I actively frequent over this place.
