I’m an avid coffee fan, worshiper, & a hopeless addict since childhood. Working in coffee shops cemented my relationship with coffee. Living in the general vicinity of this awesome local business supports this addiction.(I’m originally from Springfield and used to come here in high school too). Prices are better than corporate places. I stop by when I’m out of coffee at home, in a rush, or just feeling lazy that day. I appreciate consistency and STRONG coffee and Grab-a-Java has some of the best cold brew and espresso in town. Their drip coffees, frozen blended coffees, desserts, and food are fantastic. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by their product. Try their brownies, you won’t be disappointed ;-).

Seriously the best espresso in Springfield. Give it a try and I promise you will forget about Starbucks. I have had several different drinks, lattes, etc, but I haven’t tried the drip coffee. I can make that at home, but I can’t make a killer pumpkin spice latte at home, so that’s what I splurge on here. The broccoli, egg, and cheese tart is a great choice for breakfast. Also, I don’t have to get out of the car, so that’s a definite win.

Amazing coffee shop! Their lattes are great, they have an organic fair trade coffee that is super good and, they make breakfast tarts from scratch! They also have a pot pie in the afternoon that’s delicious! Don’t forget to get a Pete’s cookie either! The baristas are super hot too!

It’s good for quick coffee. And I haven’t personally tried their pastries but I hear they’re delicious. But the coffee just isn’t that great. I usually drink it black, and it isn’t a very good brew. I’ve tried the lattes, but I suspect they are made from a powder mix. If not, they certainly taste like it. If you’re in a hurry, swing by Grab-A-Java. But if you have more time, drive on up the road to Wm. Vans Coffee House.

Delicious coffee and actually pretty great food too. I drive all the way across town to get coffee here because it’s the best I can find in Springfield. Definitely recommend.

I love it. It’s a great place to get coffee on the way to work. They’ve got about the best Irish Cream Latte you can get. The staff is great as well.

Best coffee shop in Springfield, IL! The people are so friendly and always receive the kindest service. The muffins, scones, and cookies are sinfully delicious. Like the kind of delicious that you might find yourself going through their drive through twice a day. I wish I was joking. Ha! The vanilla nut cream coffee the have daily is better than any Starbucks coffee I’ve had and half the price. And you’ve gotta love their clever paintings out front. :)

My son and I came to Springfield for a small getaway. I’m so glad to come across this place. It has helped to start our days properly. My son has enjoyed every flavor of smoothie that they have. He said his favorite is the peach smoothie. I’m a connoisseur of iced mochas and I definitely approve. Beyond the beverages, the baristas are very friendly and welcoming. For those of you, like myself, who love convenience, it is a drive thru, but if you don’t have a vehicle, I have spotted a walk up or two. Definitely check it out!

I’ve dated and hung out with a lot of girls who have worked here and they’re all pretty cool. The coffee is good too!

I work nights, so most of the time when I pass this place they’re closed. Today, after an especially looooong 12 hour shift and knowing the ‘day’ was just going to get longer I needed some TLC from some caffinated sustinence. Grab-a-Java! A turn from Fifth to Sixth and headed there. The double drive up was fast. When I got to the window I said, «Can you make me a.» and before I could even spit our what I longed for the wonderful man said, «Yes!».(I almost cried! When was the last time anyone ever gave service like that?) «…a German Chocolate Cake Mocha?» «Of course, what size?» «The biggest you have», was my reply. And within a couple minutes I had a steaming hot cup of love to keep my butt moving for a few more hours. Oh, and I got a Ham and Cheddar tart, too. Mmmmm. Reading the other reviews of people complaining of the just straight up coffee, I can’t say anything to that. I can’t stand plain coffee. I normally love me some Starbucks, but some days you just want a little more flavor variety than the standards. And they only have the Coconut flavoring seasonally :-(So, to help a small local joint prosper, and my sanity to continue, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

The prospect of being able to drive through and get my coffee fix without getting out of the car is on my top 10 list of most convenient things. When my friend told me that such convenience(and quality!) could be found in Springfield, IL I was skeptical. We approached the tiny shack with a rather«groovy» looking sign and were immediately greeted and told the special of the day. Although I am normally an espresso drinker, at the recommendation of my friend, I chose a flavored iced latte, no whip. The associate running this one woman show did not even flinch. She whipped us up two deliciously refreshing iced coffee beverages. What works for Grab-A-Java is that they do not skimp on the coffee flavor in their more sugary, dessert beverages so they will still pack a caffeine punch and… *gasp* taste like coffee!

I am in love! When I was just in town for business I passed this cute little locally owned coffee shop and thought I would like to try it. When I finally moved to Springfield and happened on to it again I was excited to find out it is right around the corner from where I live. They have wonderful warm muffins and the last time I went they had my drink ready when I pulled up. Love them! They start my day off on a bright spot every morning. So happy I found them, they make me miss Chicago a little less.

I am not a fan of Starbucks, it’s too bitter… so the free coffee at work has been my go-to…until I got a gift card given to me for Grab-a-Java…Very friendly little drive thru, coffee was awsome, not bitter at all. I had the pumpkin spice latte and loved it! Will make this a special treat stop to myself on a regular basis… even after the gift card is gone!

Not impressed. I expected to be blown away after reading Kristina’s review. Then again, I drink coffee, not banana rama jama mocha lattes, so if you want a flavored bev, this could be the place, I can’t speak to that. If you want a plain old cup of jo or a capp/espresso, not so much.

A quick little drive through is nice, but the coffee tasted a bit bitter and not what I really ordered. Maybe I will drive through again, not sure.

After 4 ½ years of working at this little shop, I’m moving to the big city of Chicago. The only thing I’ll miss more than Grab-A-Java is my family. Voted«Best of Springfield» in the Illinois Times twice. I can never find coffee as good as the stuff here. The Vanilla Nut Crème is to die for! The owners are really cool people, and always willing to help out the customers, employees and community. Plus, it’s a drive-thru, so you don’t have to get out of your car in crappy weather. Walk-ups are tolerated more than encouraged. The staff is well trained and knowledgeable. They try very hard to remember regular customers’ drinks and pride themselves on trying to get them ready BEFORE you’re at the window. Remember — friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks. Oh, and tip your barista!
