Furr’s Fresh Buffet

When you walk in it stinks like moldy food and urine. The staff stands around talking and we barely saw our waitress. Th food looks mildley okay then you taste it and its gross. In my opinion its a huge waste of time and money. I will not go back.

After 2 rounds, you’re pretty eating the same thing over and over again. Went there during lunch during October and the restaurant had a weird smell to it when you walked through the door. Waitress was okay, had to ask for refills, and the food seemed over-​cooked.
Maybe it was a bad day, but it wasn’t a decent dining experience.

First off, im not a big fan of golden corral. Furrs makes golden corral seem like a 5 star restaurant. I was there today since a lot of restaurants were closed for new years. Food presentation even for buffet standards were very poor. Looked like people picked thru a lot of the offerings yet nothing was being refilled. Nothing even looked appetizing. Anyways got a little roast beef, some tilapia, and a taco. Roast beef was bland even with heavy ajous, tilapia had no flavor. tabasco to the rescue. Taco was ok, i would prefer taco bell. All in all, this was really reminiscent of my high school cafeteria. very poor. I paid $ 20 for 2 ppl and i cant remember how many times i was nagged during the meal by my friend for taking her here. Really, mcrib meal woukd have been better…

This place is amazing!
We’d had a disappointing pricey dinner the day before at McCormick and Schmick’s. I didn’t expect much from Furr’s — I remember the cafeteria days, and I’m not much of an all-​you-​can-​eat person.
But hey! the place is clean and bright, and the food is GOOD! Fresh salads, and a wide variety of everything else. Loved the chess pie!
Sure, there are some slip-​ups — the pinto beans weren’t done enough, most dishes could have been warmer. But the variety and value are amazing, and lots of items I tasted were really good. Lunch for $ 7.99? Wow. Impressive.
And you know that I’m picky.
I’m looking forward to returning. Much better than Sweet Tomato.

Nice place lots to choose from good food and a great price they also have some healthy items seafood, steamed vegetables and salads.

The variety is good, and the food isn’t bad, but not great. Good place if you don’t know what you want or you want a little bit of everything, and you’re in a hurry or you’re really hungry on a budget. I think there has been a gradual slippage in the quality of the food since they opened; I would have given them another star based on a visit during the first month. Definitely better than Goldan Corral, but could be sliding downhill in that general direction.
… aaaand… it’s GONE. The slide continued, the parking lot emptied and failure was assured.

The food is good enough and better than Golden Corral. We had good service both times we have gone and they even have sugar free desserts. Food could be better but you can’t beat the price. All in all it gets 3 starts from me.

Worst food ever!!! These people that are giving this place a good review must eat at really really bad restaurants all the time because that was some really bad food. The place was very messy, smelt horrible and had bad service. It was my first time there and that was my last.

Nice clean interior with friendly staff. Food is college cafeteria of the last century at best.
Honestly don’t think it would last long in Texas.

First time trying this in Houston. Was expecting alot more especially since we drove all the way from Katy. The food was «Aiiight» eatable but we Probably wont be back. You can get the same or better quality from any run-​of-​the-​mill Golden Corral without the 45 minute drive.

For a buffet, this place is really great. Don’t get me wrong: it’s cheap food made more to survive the chafing dish for an hour than to taste great, but my expectations for buffets are pretty low. It’s not like you’re expecting an Iron Chef back there.
At Furr’s, expect a good variety of edible food, and an impressive array of salads and lighter options. There’s also an impressive array of desserts, so you can make up for accidentally eating healthy at a buffet if you get those lighter options.
Service has been fast and invisible, with used plates disappearing and drinks refilling seemingly on their own. You can’t argue with the price, either.

The food at this location is pretty good. They have a huge variety of different foods from 3 different kinds of fish, anything and everything fried, pizza, Chinese dishes and a whole slew of different sides.
Most of what I have tried has been pretty good. I like their fresh breads that they have on one of the tables. Salads are also usually pretty fresh and good tasting. Whatever you have a taste for, this place most likely has it.
The only downsides to this place are A) the line and B) parking. It is not uncommon for people to be parking down the side of the street here to eat at this buffet. Which is directly related to downside A. Every time I try to go here, there is usually a line to the door and sometimes it reaches outside the door.
I understand this is good value for $ 10 you get a ton of food and many different varieties. The quality is not worth having to deal with the hassle of parking and the line. If if is not crowded, I will venture in, but if I see cars on the street I just keep on driving.

First off, the food was ok but it reminded me of college cafeteria food. Most of it was high in fat, but then again most Americans aren’t a picky health nut like me. Regardless… I was able to find food at the buffet that catered to my diet which was good. The place was clean and the food was actually very fresh. Price was not too bad either…
Unfortunately I was the only person following a diet as this place clearly was designed as the Mecca for the fat folks of Spring. As a 154lb fit man, I am 100% certain I weighed less than anyone else dining in this restaurant. The man next to me was literally eating 6 desserts at the same time… the person behind me was eating an entire plate of fried everything. It’s actually disgusting to watch people gorge themselves with 3000 calories worth of food in one sitting.
I don’t know what is more disturbing… the amount of food people don’t eat and waste at this place or watching people feel as if they MUST eat themselves to death because «it’s all you can eat.»
This place would get a 5 star rating if the clientele were better.

Ignore all these bad reviewERs, this place is AWESOME! Better than the old Furr’s, better than Luby’s, and it’s a dream come true: «ALL YOU CAN EAT!»
My only complaint is they don’t have one in Sugar Land.

Furr’s, what an odd name for a restaurant.
Not very appetizing; that’s for sure… And that’s only the name…
Well, we ventured out here a while back and our experience was no better than our impression of the name.
Seems to me like they try to make the food look appetizing by over decorating the buffet.
I must say, the fruit and veggie sculptures/​carving were beautiful. But the food was… well, it was buffet food.
They have a bigger and fresher selection, but I don’t think it’s any better than say Golden Corral.
Sweet Tomatoes is much much better, just my opinion.
The only thing I really liked was the fresh fruit at the ice cream bar. They had a lot of topping and fresh strawberries and black berries. Yum!
All in all, NOT inpressed!
And on a last note… I almost slipped on the greassiest floor that connects the kitchen exit to the buffet, but it runs along a dining area which is where we were seated.
I was able to gain my balance, but come on!
I just went the other way around to avoid slipping and maybe even falling.
Sorry Furr’s! I’m not sacrificing my safety for mediocre food!

Theres a printed sticker on the door that asks to wear a cover up over swim suits…
this is that kind of place.
There was a lot of food but no shrimp options for lunch. Cheddar baked biscuits were good. Desserts consisted of «artificially sweetened» this and that. Chocolate ice cream was gross, not creamy, it was like frozen gritty dirt. The only option I got more than once after sampling was the coconut fried chicken and cheddar biscuits. I didn’t like that there was really only one spot to get large plates, they weren’t at every island.
Our server wasn’t really on top of things. It took a long time to get my water refilled and I never got the steak sauce I asked for.
To top it off, when we were leaving I couldn’t even get in the passenger side of my ride because some minivan parked like an ASSHOLE (the front of their car went over the line)…
this is that kind of place.

I had to go when the wife was out of town… she doesn’t do buffets…
I thought it was pretty good for what it is… massive quantities of food often doesn’t translate into great food…
The buffalo wings are good, the fried chicken is good, the roast beef has a nice flavor but is very fatty, the catfish is so-​so, and the chicken fried steak wasn’t very good at all…
The rolls and cornbread were good…
Lots to choose from… kinda pricy for dinner @ $ 14.00 with a drink…

I had trepidations about going to Furr’s. One, I’m not a huge fan of buffets and two, the parking lot (in the couple weeks it’s been open) is always overflowing. Overflowing parking lots at buffets usually warn of an uncomfortable, if not filthy, experience. We went anyway… and I was, quite pleasantly, surprised.
The line may appear long, but the cashiers are efficient, with a smile. After paying (kids up to 12 are only $ 4.65!) you then wait to be seated. This is a great idea as it lends a little bit of organization to the proceedings. The serving tables are set up at angles to each other, and the plates are at the far end, which makes one feel as if they are working upstream, but that’s a small inconvenience.
The salad bar was incredibly fresh, and you often see staff replacing low inventory. In fact, I can’t remember seeing an empty food dish anywhere, with the exception of the yeast rolls. And my father taught me right, a long time ago… don’t mess with the filling bread stuffs!
The carving station was a bit confusing and slow, but I chalk that up to the impatience of some of my fellow diners. The roast beef was excellent and the steaks they were grilling (I did not try) looked delicious.
My number one compliment goes out to the staff and management. It was refreshing to see management encouraging, congratulating and joking with staff. It is not typical to see the level of appreciation the management of this store had for its employees.
My only complaint about this restaurant is that I cannot choose my fellow diners. We have become a «me first» society, and buffets tend to show us at our worst. Don’t let it stop you though, the experience was worth it.

The old Furr’s Cafeteria has been reinvented somewhat, and is more along the lines of a modern buffet, such as Sweet Tomatoes, etc.
Food has more fresh offerings, and better quality food than the old cafeteria’s plates of canned veggies, and is better than most buffets. The building is new, with new Furrniture (i.e. not re-​Furrbished). Beethoven would approve this Furr A-​lease.
A pack of service people are involved: one guides you through the assembly line, another to a table, where the waiter hangs around to clear the dishes, refill and protect your lair. And, not a lick of dirt (a team of sweepers see to that). Tip? I left a good pelt, even if it was a buffet.
Next to Cheddar’s (and across from Rudy’s), this place will reinforce the draw to the area for eating out, and perhaps appeal to an older «Leave it to Beaver» crowd (people aged 5 – 8 in dog years).
Opening day. Packed full. People were eager to get their food. The islands of buffet foods are organized by type, generally, but at odd angles. Consequently, there is a lot of running into each otter and the staff, or feel trapped. I was ready to watch the Furr fly !
In the waiting-​to-​pay-​first line ($ 8/​adult plus $ 2 drink), I had a brush with an eager older woman who just had to get in front of me. Later, in a buffet line, it took her Furrever to make up her mind. Everyone else was fast and Furrious.
Like a cafeteria, the general arrangement of buffet island grouping is salads/​appetizers, meats, veggies, and Furrther down the line are the desserts, many of which had well-​groomed toppings for a nice show. The selections are all over the map from comfort foods to pizza, fish and tacos. Comfort foods have the best pedigree. The tacos and pizza look unappetizing, and are mainly for the human puppies I guess. There is a grill where sausages, hamburgers, chicken, corn on the cob, jalapenos are grilled in sight. The selections vary by a hair depending on the day of the week.
My selections from the buffet:
Salad: washed and snipped lettuce, a tangled mix of leaf types, no matting, and I added broccoli, good blue cheese chunks, and a side of mixed fruit
Skillet-​Grilled Chicken Fried Steak: A tight-​fitted wrap. Coating was not crisp, perhaps having sat in the stainless bin. Trimmed to the size of a man’s palm of the hand, you don’t have to get too much. Taste was good, even with plain cream gravy.
Blackened Tilapia (more like a light sunburn): Surprisingly good and fresh fish. Not spicy, but worthy.
Buffalo Chicken Strips: Mildly hot («low» on hair dryer)
Chopped Steak: Good with natural gravy and a roll to sop it up. (No PETA bread)
Dessert: Very good raspberry cobbler (shear heaven, except for the crust) and the cherry cobbler was not too sweet. Brownie was good. Fresh berries (and the typical toppings) for ice cream swirl. Nice finish.
To-​Go Menu: $ 4.19/lb for lunch, $ 4.39/lb for dinner. At that rate, I am glad I ate inside (I pigged out).
Puzzle seekers: in this review, there are 35 direct and indirect references to «fur» (counting the Rating system & ratings as 1), including animals with it, and handling of it.
Time to flea the scene. Furr’s has my seal of approval.
