I stopped in here while on vacation to see what they had and try to escape the heat. They had a good selection and the owner was very friendly. She sat us down on a comfortable chair and talked with us for a while. *Allergy Warning* they do have a small dog that walks around the store. She is super sweet and friendly, and they keep the store very clean.

This was an awesome little book store. They managed to have lots of books without feeling overcrowded and overwhelming. We stopped in out of curiosity and ended up just chatting with the owners for about a half hour. We were giving her book recommendations, and she was giving some to us. They weren’t pushy trying to get us to buy anything, which I really appreciate. A great place to go and relax if you need a break from the heat!

This place had a lot of books, but none that I wanted to read. It had an odd selection of some obscure stuff, but not having much choices of something more«mainstream». I was impressed that they had some used books as a selection, especially since the other books were pretty spendy. I wasn’t in a rush to go back, I had better luck at the thrift shops finding books I wanted to read for a few bucks. When I went, it was a few days before the«spring breakers» came to town, and service was not that great, the worker barely acknowledged us when we walked in or left.

Great little bookstore. Used and new. As soon as we walked in two little fluff ball dogs greeted us at the door, received head pats, and then went back to their corner. Paragraphs has a little bit of everything and an impressive selection of local authors. The books aren’t really alphabetized so you’ll need to hunt around some, but that’s half the fun. Super friendly staff, human and furry.

This is a great independent bookstore on South Padre Island. They have a great selection, pleasant atmosphere, and helpful employees. I most definitely suggest going there on your next visit to SPI.

Pleasantly surprised to find an independent bookstore, not only in the Valley but more specifically the island. My girlfriend and I huge supporters of independent bookstores so we don’t mind paying retail price for books to keep businesses like this afloat. It is a quaint, little place with a fairly comprehensive selection of titles considering the space restraints they have. Definitely check it out if you are on the island and forgot to bring reading materia. I managed to find a great copy of Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘Remains of the Day.’

Guy did not greet us when we came in(this is a small bookstore) but then proceeded to great the people that came in after us. The lady was nice asking if I needed help find anything to let here know. The books are cover price not real bargains to be found. The cheapest books I found were kids story books for $ 8 dollars. Nice atmosphere but selection is small and they don’t have enough bargains to compete with other book stores.

We are from Dallas and have our pick of big bookstores, but this is our favorite. The owners live behind the store and are usually working alongside their little dog. Great selection of children’s books.

We have been a couple of times to this outstanding Independant book seller. Our reluctant reader bought a book recommended by one of the owners and we returned the next day to get the second book in series. Friendly staff knowledgeable and comfortable places to read. This is a must visit for bibliophile or reader and great book store for getting help & recommendations

So happy to find this beautiful indie bookstore on the island! Great selection of current and classic fiction and nonfiction, and an inviting place to spend time chatting with the charming owner, petting his pampered pups, and meeting assorted locals and visitors. Found a Mother’s Day card amid assorted cards, some featuring local photos and drawings. Amid the many changes to SPI this is one I can fully support and celebrate.

Amazing staff of book enthusiasts, adorable dogs, and a wonderful selection of books from current best sellers to ones by local authors. If you’re planning on spending some time in a beach chair under the sun, be sure to stop in here and grab something off the shelf to entertain first!

During our vacation to South Padre Island, we stopped in to Paragraphs one day to find a book for the beach. The selection was excellent, small but featuring classics and even some crossword puzzles and other word game books(perfect for a trip). Then, when it rained a couple of days later, we ended up back at the store and spent all afternoon playing board games, talking with the owner, and helping ourselves to free coffee they offer their customers. The games are free and available to you any time. The staff was great, the owner would have suggestions and comments for books you would buy, and would ask your opinions on them as well! Very friendly and inviting, definitely worth a stop!

When my trip to South Padre Island was arranged, one of the first things I looked up was bookstores there. I was delighted to discover Paragraphs and even happier to actually visit it! There is a beautiful courtyard as well as reading and gaming spaces inside the bookstore. The owners, who are very sweet and informative, bring their dogs! The selection is good but rather small. I absolutely loved it here!

I almost cried with joy when I found this little gem on our latest trip to SPI. I’m a fan of small indie bookstores and seek them out whenever I travel because they are fun and local and inevitably owned and operated by someone I’d like to get to know. This was no exception to that rule. Very welcoming and warm, low key, and full of tempting reads. I had my 5 and 7 year old in tow and they pronounced the kids’ area first rate. Kind and helpful owner, can’t wait to return.

You love books. You should go here. Super cozy and great staff, ready and willing to help. Most other people we encountered on the island could not be bothered to acknowledge customers — not the case here. And I agree, all such stores should have resident animals, especially ones that lay on the counter.

YES, a cute bookstore! We came right in and saw a cute dog to play with, so we did. Then we hung out with the workers, who let us play with their two other dogs(stores need to have more animals run free!). We chatted, they recommended some places to check out, etc. There’s also a little corner next to the windows where you can play checkers, chess and scrabble. We sat there for a couple of games… fun! There’s a section for discounted books, and little notes for other books to check out.

A GEM! Don’t go to Barnes & Nobles before your trip. Just wait until you get to the island and go here. The staff takes pride in helping you find what you are looking for, or identifying your interests and recommending titles.

What a great independent bookstore! Joni had great reading suggestions based on our basic descriptions. Fantastic selection. New and gently used. Free Wi-Fi inside and in the courtyard. Bring a latte from your favorite indy coffee shop on the island and you’re set.
