All the one-star reviews are absolutely true. This is the kind of place that you wipe your feet when you walk OUT.

They are no longer in business. Now it is Maya’s Grill, which has good Mexican food(burritos, tortas, quesadillas, etc.)

Got a chance to check out Womack’s on a couple of different trips to South Lake. A bit on the pricey side, as most Tahoe eateries are. The place is tiny. After the first visit, I was sure to return at an offbeat time to avoid the rush. I went with a sampler platter both visits. The cornbread, brisket, and wedge potatoes were great, as was the home brewed beer they were serving at the time(can’t quite remember the name.) The portions could be a bit bigger. It might not be as authentic as some other BBQ joints I’ve hit in the past, but definitely worth it.

If you wanna get ripped off and eat half assed BBQ then this is your spot. Not recommended at all. Small portions what costs

It’s ok, the hate is a little over dramatic. What is $ 16 should be 12. But you are in Tahoe. The brisket is a bit crunchy but the chicken is moist and tasty. Potato salad is great.

We were looking for a place to have good barbecue. A local referred us to this place. We ordered baby back ribs to takeout and were quite happy with both the juiciness of the ribs and the flavor of the sauce. We would definitely get ribs there again.

Awesome sweet potato pie & the best buttery corn bread! Packed house but so-so service. — Enjoy!

Feb 22014 — me and some pals wanted some BBQ. We found this place via Unilocal and saw the hater reviews but still decided to give it a chance. Damn they were right. As we walked in, it did not smell like a BBQ spot at all. Usually you can smell one from a block away or more. We ordered chicken, which tasted boiled and soggy. The brisket appeared to be leftovers from the previous day. Cornbread had no flavor at all. The pork ribs were just bland. I just haven’t ate at a place were all of us immediately went to out Unilocal or yahoo link to leave a review about how poor this BBQ meal was. I really don’t like writing bad reviews but it is what it is… bad BBQ

You have to wonder why the reviews are so bipolar. My friends and I were very hungry and were lured into this place by the 3+ star reviews and prior awards. Instead, we got a over-crowded restaurant, exceptionally slow service, and the worst BBQ I have ever had in my life(really not an exaggeration; Dickies/Tx Roadhouse/Claim Jumper/TGIF/Black Angus and my company cafeteria made better ribs). The ribs we had were dry as jerky, with BBQ sauce that was dry and caking. I can understand if restaurants make practice of pre-cooking and re-heating to meet demand, but this tasted worse than microwaved, last night leftovers BBQ. Maybe they assumed we were stupid tourists and could serve crappy food?

Womacks awesome BBQ however u can’t be in a hurry. I wish the owner would upgrade put more room inside it’s very small and only a few outside tables. The service there isn’t always the best but the food is awesome. I recommend having some drinks first as it does take some time for the food to be served.

Disgusting, foul, dirty. My 6 year old son couldn’t even eat the chicken nuggets. Ranch was some kind of clear gray, overly salted goo. Absolutely no flavor to the red beans. Meat was fatty & gristly as well as over salted & it was cold. The male server didn’t even care that we couldn’t stomach our food, nor did he offer to take anything off the bill or apologize. Oh– and we noticed a big, dead big on the table as we were leaving. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough!

Best BBQ of 1996 and 2005(something like that), but THEWORSTBBQOF2013! Stay away from this place! It’s beyond a hipster trap. It’s a plain trap. Do not eat here. The food is edible, that’s 1 star. Everything else about this place is horrible. I will update my reasons when I get a chance to sometime, but it’s not even worth my time. Very tiny portion size for $ 30. The chicken here is TERRIBLE. It’s a small place but there’s nothing wrong with that if the food was actually good. I think the person who was our waiter(a guy with glasses and a cowboy hat) was also our cashier and the cook… Just please, trust me. Do not eat here. Your money is better off being spent at the Harrah’s buffet or anywhere else, but not here.

Don’t be fooled! This is not the Womack’s of old. Obviously they sold the restaurant and recipes to people who only care about making a buck. There was a time I wouldn’t go to Tahoe without eating there. Now, I’ll never eat there again.

Decent BBQ. Nothing to write home about, but it’s tasty enough. It’s a small restaurant, but don’t hold that against them. It works for them. Staff is friendly.

Womack’s Texas Style Bar-B-Q South Lake Tahoe, California 7pm Friday 8th February 2013 Three Stars This place was surprisingly good. We devoured the rest of their keg of beer in the first fifteen minutes. We read out of date Trivia Pursuit cards from the 1980s. The food came out and it was ugly looking but it tasted great but very saucy. I had the Brisket and pulled pork. The portion size was small but expected. The beans and potato salad was fine. The Pork Rib meat melted off the bone. The food was good enough especially after a long day on the mountain.

This place is very small and has terrible parking. There is no place to park so my bf and I had to park across the street and park in the Raleys parking lot. I ordered the bbq sandwich was okay while my BF ordered the brisket which we both didnt care about. Prices were a bit pricey. Service: It was good considering it was more like a mom and pop shop and the guy running it was alone. Probably wouldnt return.

NOT worth your time or money! We were really excited to try this place out but it was so disappointing! For a chicken sandwich and a chicken lunch plate, we ended up paying $ 45! A side of fries that came in the smallest plate I have ever seen in my life cost me $ 5! Incredibly over priced and it not at all impressive! And the chicken was just boiled and then smothered in bbq sauce. Lame! I can do that myself at home! NEVERGOINGBACKTHEREAGAIN!!!

DONOTGOHERE! Avoid this place like the plague. All of their awards are outdated and so are all of the photos on this Unilocal page. If you look at the photo I uploaded, you will find out that Womack’s is NOT the best BBQ in south lake tahoe. The MCRIB is a more deserving candidate if it was available. ref: That plate was the sampler platter, emphasis on the sampler. I guess when they think sampler, they’re thinking the free samples of shampoo you receive in the mail, because that’s how much food we got. That plate cost us $ 30. That white ball thing in the middle is the chicken. I don’t know if you can call this chicken because all I tasted was a quaker oats rice cake. I came here for BBQ, don’t give me diet food. The kicker was that the owner/server/cook told us that this plate and another entrée would fill up our table of 4 hungry guys. We ordered another half sampler. «We made a huge mistake.» For another $ 20, we got half of that picture. That’s right, half of that platter. The cokes were $ 4 each but there are free refills. It’s kind of redundant since we don’t have any food to wash down with those cokes. DONOTGOHERE!

This was pretty good BBQ food, and definitely good sauce(what they seem to pride themselves on), however, for the price, I’d rather eat at a much nicer place. Our party of 7 arrived a bit early for dinner(before 6), so thankfully we were seated right away and got ahead of the huge crowd that poured into the tiny little shack over the next hour. It was literally standing room only by the time we were halfway through our meal, and wait times kept going up with every bite. This place seemed to be a hit but not many inside looked like locals. After looking over the menu and settling on sharing a bowl of chili and a BBQ beef brisket sandwich with my boy, we ordered along with the rest of the crew. Let me take this opportunity to note that the two things we ordered, along with a side salad and one or two other sandwich varieties were the only things on the menu under $ 25. Most dishes were in the $ 30 range. Pricey if you ask me. Anyways, after what seemed like forever our food finally arrived. The food itself did not disappoint. The chili was very tasty and the sandwich was also good, but the portions were definitely not anything to write home about. Thankfully neither of us were starving when we arrived, otherwise sharing two dishes would not have been enough. The others all ordered meals. They looked and smelled great. The reviews were positive but not raving. We had also ordered a side of their spicy sauce($ 2.50 extra charge the waitress forgot to mention) for dipping our fries. The sauce did not come off immediately as being that spicy, but it built over time and by the end of our meal we were sniffling. 4 stars for the sauce alone. I doubt I’ll be back. There are many other places I’d like to try in the South Lake area and most of them don’t charge an arm and a leg for dinner.
