Delicious pastries located in downtown Solvang. Only reason why this is not a 5 star review is solely due to their pricing. A few dollars more than I was expecting. A bucket of their danish cookies is a little under $ 19. I will still go back when in the area.

It is located in the center of Solvang. The place is really cute and cozy. They have really good service. The people working there are really helpful when it comes to assisting you about what to eat. They are also really helpful when it comes to recommending other good places to eat and activities to do. We ordered the rumball and the custard bread. My husband loves the rumball but I didnt like it that much. Id go back for the Custard bread and their service!

Slow service. Bunch of girls standing up front not doing any work but joking around, took 15 minutes to make my latte which isn’t even latte, tasted like burnt coffee with regular milk not even steamed or froth, another 10 minutes to make a hot chocolate. Not a place to get coffee. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place

Who doesn’t love pastries?! This place was only a hop skip and a jump from my hotel. They have many Danish pastries like bear claws, apple turnovers, cinnamon rolls and much more. I got a cheese Danish and it was yum. The only negative thing I have to say is they didn’t have any sweaters for the coffee(I wanted a vanilla latte) but they gentleman guided me to the neighboring business(Green House Café) so it all worked out.

First time in solvang and I had to tried this place. I love Cheese Danishes and these were the best I’ve tasted. Everything is good. It’s true alittle on the pricey side but worth it in my book.

The best pastries anywhere. Always friendly staff in person or on telephone. Was able to have them send their bucket of cookies to Las Vegas to share with co-workers. A must stop when visiting Solvang. Centrally located and busy for a reason. They are so darn good!

Fast and friendly service, amazing pastries, and free samples on the counter! No restrooms is a bit of a drawback, but certainly not a dealbreaker. I agree that it may be time for a bit of a refresh, but as a first time visitor, it added to the charm more than detracted from it. Prices aren’t cheap, but certainly reflect the quality, and were worth it IMHO(2 cookies &2 pastries were nearly $ 14). We visited twice in two days while we were in the area, loving the danishes, but ADORING the Florentines and Danish Waffles. I will dream about those for the rest of my life. Long live Mortensen’s!

This was a cute building and the staff were helpful and courteous. Third stop of my Owl Eye trek, an owl eye being a shortbread cookie with a piped topping of marzipan with a hollow in the marzipan filled with preserves, in this case raspberry. Mortensen’s goes the extra step of adding a dot of icing to the cookie and it’s a nice touch. This cookie was the best one, as the shortbread was crisp and had a nice density. The marzipan, while not cooked golden brown like others, was chewy and assertive. The raspberry filling was chewy and tasted like real raspberry preserves, not gelatinous or loaded with extra pectin either. Ambiance/Cleanliness-it was fine, no surprises.3 stars Service-excellent-4 stars Food-This cookie was head and shoulders above the others, in my opinion…4 stars! Would go back… they ship as well!

I should have taken pictures of the things I purchased, but they have since been consumed. We went in the late afternoon and they were sold out of some of the standards, so if you are wanting a particular item, you’d be best advised to go in the morning or early afternoon. I also got a Cream Cheese Danish, as well as Rum Balls, and a frosted coconut butter cookie, oh my gosh the cookies were so good, and are complimented very well with coffee. The rum ball was not my favorite, I felt like the chocolate was a bit rubbery… chocolate? Rubbery? = weird. I did however like the Cream Cheese Danish I got, the pastry was flaky, buttery and they weren’t stingy with the filling. Sandy ordered the Danish Kringle, you know I just thought about it, I didn’t get any!(no fair!) I thought the prices were a little on the high side, so if you are on a budget I might suggest doing some price checking before picking one bakery.

Stopped by the bakery since nothing else was open. The cream cheese Danish was delicious and the café was so cute! I wanted to try everything but all the pastries were so big! Lol. There are so many bakeries in Solvang and I kinda like this one over the other ones that I stopped by :)

Mortensen’s was at one time, perhaps, the best bakery in Solvang. But it’s days are far in the past. The presentation is poor, the inside is worn, and it just looks tired. It’s a great candidate for a makeover for Chef Ramsey or Chef Irvine. What do I like the best? ================== It’s still the reigning King, in my opinion, with the butterring(aka«Seven Sisters») at a hefty $ 16.95($ 3 – 5 dollars more than other bakeries). What do I like least? =============== Seeing trays of fresh pastries sit outside the case by the customer line. Why are they there? Well, because the kitchen is here, and the selling counter is there. Part of the Berger redesign, the counter would be moved so that the full trays can be made in the back, and brought out from the kitchen into the display. Get it together! ============ Mortensen’s, come on. You’ve been on a long break, get it together! Time to shine again, or else, be engulfed in the competitions flames.

If you’re in Solvang and have a sweet tooth, I recommend visiting this bakery! Don’t be turned off by the line. There’s a line because the desserts here are pretty delicious. The staff here works quickly and efficiently. My favorite dessert from here was the custard cream puff(about $ 4 — $ 5). I don’t remember the exact price because I was in sweets heaven. It’s the size of a cheeseburger!

We are regulars to Solvang just to get Cheese and Pastry fixes. The kringle strip is a take home must. At Christmas time they make rings, which are great for brunch. My faves are the Napoleon, crispy creamy and sweet. It’s big enough to to last a couple of days. The eclairs and raspberry waffle crisps are family faves. If you want hearty go for the bear claw. This is my goto when I get the cofffe. Being diabetic, trust me it’s maybe once every few months we go, but Mortensens beats them all!

I don’t know where Mortensen stands among the other gazillion bakeries in that area. But on an absolute note, I loved their offerings. Because, you know, it’s sugar. And sugar is always delicious! The pastries tasted good and there was plenty of space inside to sit and eat. That said, beware of the tourist horde(myself included). It can get quite busy and chaotic inside :)

You can’t go to Solvang and not try something baked. But choose wisely and perhaps choose not this bakery. For example, the Chocolate Rum Ball has the texture of Playdoh. The Danish Waffle is much better. Can’t go wrong with crunchy puff pastry and cream, but it’s not very memorable.
Such a bright and cheerful storefront, such a sterile space inside. Nothing wrong with the pastries, but it just felt like a baby step up from the grocery store at best.

We stopped for a Kringle but that was way too big for just two so we bought a custard almond pastry and it was delicious. Many good looking selections but not this time. The town of Solvang is one of the weirdest tourist towns I’ve seen — they’ve taking the faux Danish thing to an extreme.

hi-ya! The bakery is so good. They have all kinds of Danish pastries that really hit the spot when it comes carbs! The prices are high, but again you’re in Solvang and supposed to enjoy the experience. Seating is available kinda – inside(small), but outside is perfect. The customer service is good and the selection is easy to figure out with clear uncluttered display cases. I really could go HAM on the sweets there so I have no complaints. Overall 5 stars because it’s so good it hurts.

One of the charms of Solvang is all of the quaint bakeries around town that suck you in with the sweet smell of pastries. Mortensen’s Bakery was the closest bakery to our hotel so we made a couple stops here during our weekend in Solvang. Mortensen’s offers tons of traditional Danish pastries, cookies, apple strudel, and other sweets. I had one of their apple cinnamon danishes and it was perfect. The pastry was very light and flakey and the filling was a mixture of sweet and tart. My only wish is that they offered to warm up the pastries. Three pastries cost us about $ 10.50 so it’s a little on the expensive side but you are in Solvang and it’s super touristy, so what do you expect? Service was quick and the actual bakery is spacious. There were lines almost out the door both times we went in so keep that in mind. If you’re spending the weekend in Solvang, checking out the bakeries is a must!

Meh. My wife had never been to Solvang before, so we decided to walk around town for a bit after breakfast. This bakery was closest to where we parked, so it was the one where we got our pastries. I went with a raspberry danish, 2 raspberry owl eyes, and one«double cookie» or something like that. Total was $ 10.50! WOW! I was shocked at the price. The pastries were fairly good, but not $ 10.50 good! The best one was the double cookie one. It was 2 butter cookies with chocolate cream filling in the middle, then dipped in chocolate. Even then, I wouldn’t come back because they were so expensive and not worth it in my opinion.

Danish pastry tour stop number 1! Dog friendly. One of the bigger bakeries. Always crowded. Service was nice. Seating area if you want to eat inside. Cinnamon Crisp — $ 3 — It was like a churro chip but not as good as a normal churro. Pistachio Square — $ 2.65 — Loved the pistachio flavor. The almonds added a nice texture. It was pretty sweet.
