I came in today to grab a coffee on my way to work. While the coffee itself was fine, the other aspects of my service were subpar. Due to a $ 5 minimum on cards, I was obliged to order something else, so I got a bagel with cream cheese. I was very disappointed to find once I got to work that my bagel had barely any cream cheese on it. When I say barely, I mean barely visible with the naked eye. The lack of effort by the service was palpable, and disappointing.

Cake was alright. First time trying it and I think it’s expensive and wasn’t even good for the price. Could’ve gotten my son’s cake done elsewhere for much better taste. Had to add more money later on when they had to recalculate. Will not come back.

Tried their cupcakes for Thanksgiving and they were good but not great. They simply make the best Carrot cake for sure. The Boston crème pie did not have enough cream it was too dry. The Red velvet needed more frosting too. They only make Cheesecake on a special order only which was rather odd for a bakery.

Cupcakes were OK. I didn’t really like the taste of the frosting. I’ve yet to try their drinks and cookies. Not sure how their cakes taste but I’m sure the batter tastes good. Overall, the frosting was my biggest problem.

Delish! People made it a point to come up to me to compliment me on our wedding cake. Alice is such a pleasure to work with. She was recommended by our Officiant(Mike Backer) and we could not have been happier.

I’ve never been here before but I was going to be in the neighborhood to do a couple errands. My brother mentioned the place and said he wanted to try one of the pumpkin cupcakes. I told him I’d pick one up for him. The interior of the café was cute and all the pastries looked very good despite also looking a tad overpriced. My gripe is with the service. I saw three people behind the counter. Not a single person smiled at me. No one greeted me. No one welcomed me to the café. One person asked if I was being helped. I said no. He immediately assisted someone else instead who came in after me and cut in front of me as I was answering. He ignored me afterwards and left to who knows where. Everyone ignored me. I had to ask someone if they could please take my order. He was a young kid and had begun to walk away from the front and seemed personally offended that I had asked him to do what I assume he’s being paid for. He very briskly asked what I wanted and I ordered the pumpkin cupcake that my brother wanted. At that point I was so irritated that I didn’t order a single thing for myself even though I was planning on ordering several cupcakes and at least a dozen cookies to take with me into work the next day. He told me my total. I gave him the money and as soon as my change was in hand he immediately escaped again. No ‘Have a nice day’ ‘Thank you for coming’ or ‘We hope to see you again.’ I have never left a bakery feeling so annoyed by the service. It’s no big loss though. I live right down the street from Wholly Cannoli. The staff there is friendly and helpful and the prices on their pastries are honestly a bit better. I’ll be continuing to buy my sweets there. The Bean Counter certainly didn’t impress me at all and I doubt I’ll ever visit again.

Everything here was fresh and heavenly. I can see why this place is continuously ranked highly in Worcester. Each dessert had a rich flavor that rivals that of higher end bakeries and dessert lounges. Along side these incredible flavors is an intimate feel to the establishment, giving off a vintage coffee/pastry shop vibe. Although it is a little hole-in-the-wall in external appearance, the trip inside the store is what really counts.

Good quality(if pricey) desserts; great variety of items. Customer service is dreadful. When I walked in as the only customer with 3 staff behind the counter, I wasn’t greeted or asked if I needed help. When I very politely requested a particular item from a tray of decorated cookies(at the other bakeries I frequent, they always ask if I have a preference if the items are not all the same), the server sighed audibly and tossed the one I hadn’t chosen back on the tray, breaking it. She then snipped at me about the broken cookie. Unacceptable behavior. If I’m spending $ 3.50 on a decorated cookie I should be able to pick which color I want. I will absolutely not be back. There are many other excellent bakeries in the area that appreciate their customers.

Desserts in the bakery ALL look amazing! Cute little quaint coffee shop, great for a little chatting, coffee and if you can’t control yourself almost every you can think of for your sweet tooth.

I ordered two, custom, vegan cakes for my kids joint birthday party. They were DELICIOUS! I emailed two pictures to them and they were able to place the images on the cakes. My son had a Lego Luke Skywalker cake, and my daughter an Ariel/Cinderella cake. My guests were shocked later when I told them they were vegan! I did take away one star for price… however, I would do it all over again :) Everything was perfect, and all food was safe for my son, who has food allergies, to eat. Thank you!

I travel a lot for work and have tried many bakeries in many different places but always love be back home and head in for a cup of joe and some special desserts. I love this gem of a place and have ordered a number of wonderfully designed and executed cakes. On the road now and missing your Guatemalan. Keep up the good work. By the way think you might stock some coffees roasted by top flight Japanese roasters? Just a thought.

Lovely small place, nice service, great coffee, tasty delicious fruit tart, and alright velvet cup cake. I wouldn’t mind coming back to chill or meet up friends here, it’s pretty cool.

I can’t believe this place is literally 3 mins from my house but I have driven by unnoticeable I would recommend adding balloons and another sign for attractions. I came in today to get some treat for a Co worker birthday and I end up getting a whole bunches of cupcake everything taste great and wonderful very flavor and the sugar level is perfect. Everyone in the office loves it. The price is a little pricey compare to other places but I guess you get what you pay. Thank you and I will definitely be back.

Stopped here today on the way visiting some friends from Shrewsbury. The vegan selection was small but what we had was delicious, I loved my oatmeal cookie!

We get our cakes here because I always believe a bakery cake is just so much better than a food club or supermarket cake… but this place has lost it’s mind with prices for a small cake. Yes your cake is better but not $ 30 better, especially when the cake is being fed to co-workers or the fat neighborhood kids at the son’s birthday… great cakes but you better get one soon given the prices you may have to get a second mortgage to get one soon!

I ordered a cake for a Super Bowl party, which was also a surprise birthday party for my father. I wanted the cake to look like the back of a Patriots jersey with Flores 55(my dad’s last name and age) on it. When I was shown the cake upon pick-up, I immediately saw that the name had been left off and said so. The young man working told me that he was not a decorator but he could try to write it on for me. I said yes, but when he came back with the cake I was sort of shocked — the letters looked like they’d been scrawled there by a child. I just stared, while my brother(who was with me) politely asked for a discount on the cake. The employee said that he would need to call his boss Alice and ask her. He spoke to her in the back and then passed the phone to me; the owner did not remember me asking for a name when I ordered the cake, but I reminded her that my initial email inquiry contained the same information. She said she would check the email and call back. My brother and I stood around in the bakery for almost 15 minutes before she called back and said that I was correct about the email. She offered a measly discount of 10%, so I ultimately paid over $ 60 for a cake that was not what I wanted. Honestly, the cake tasted good, and that is why I’m even bothering with 2 stars. But I did not appreciate being made to wait around while the owner«checked» on my story because she did not believe me, and was not willing to accept the dissatisfaction of a paying customer. I will choose a different bakery next time — there are some great ones in Worcester that will do whatever it takes to get it right. Bean Counter obviously has a lot to learn about customer service.

I have now experienced their gluten free baking, and I love it. I had the raspberry thumbprint style cookie(but it was more like the print of a giant’s thumb) and a flourless chocolate cake. Both were fantastic. The coffee drinks are ok; I find them to be lacking in flavor like they skimp on the syrups. But the baked goods and chai more than make up for that. Yay!

During a business trip through Worcester-Shrewsbury, I decided to try the Shrewsbury location of the Bean Counter. This café was located on the very busy Boston Turnpike, but its worth a stop. Upon entering the café, I was greeted by 2 staff members. This very warm greeting really took me back since I was not even ready to order. It definitely showed a high level of warm professionalism from the staff. The desserts at this place looked delicious and I decided to have the peanut butter chocolate cupcake. Boy, the chocolate in this cupcake was rich. I had my standard black coffee and thought the coffee they brewed had a good acidity to it. Definitely helped wash down the rich chocolate I had. The café is definitely meant for small socializations. There were only 3 tables available in the place. This is not really a downside per se, but if you want to plug in a computer and work, there might not be much space. Even with its location off a very busy street and small atmosphere, this place rocked in terms of delicious desserts, good coffee, and really inviting service. Definitely would drop by here again.

My husband and I were married Saturday, and had a cake from Bean Counter. I, as well as 3 of our guests, have a gluten allergy, but I didn’t want to have two cakes. So, we set out to find a gluten free cake that no one could tell was gf. Bean Counter nailed it! Pros: Delicious Gorgeous Gluten free Amazing filling Fantastic service Punctual Cons: Nothing! It was a tad pricey, but worth every penny!
