I LOVE Korean baked goods not just because I’m Korean but I don’t like overly sweet desserts(well, maybe that’s because I’m Korean but then my point isn’t very good, eh?). I like how Korean baked goods are moderate in sweetness and very light. I’ve had both their cakes and pastries and they are very yummy. With the cake, I don’t have to scrape off all the frosting and everything is made with whipped cream. If you’ve never had Korean bakery stuff, definitely check them out. I’d recommend the whipped cream stuffed pastries and round donuts. Yeah, I’ve had even better quality pastries but not in Seattle(L.A., Queens and Korea has them beat) but for something local, I can’t complain. Oh, and the owner is super nice and very proud of the quality of his products. EDIT: This place has moved to Edmonds by the Boohan Market.

Royal Bakery satisfies my occasional desire for Korean baked goods. Koreans not known for their baked goods, you say? Oh, you fool. Having lived in L.A. for a while, I became accustomed to sponge-y cakes with fresh fruit and a mild cream frosting(in contrast to the thick, sugary frosting used on American cakes). When I came to Seattle for college, I assumed these delicious cakes were a thing of the past. Then Royal Bakery came into my life. Now, to be fair, I’ve only been here a few times, but that is because I’m not a big dessert/sugar person. But every once in a while, I need a lil sumpin’ sumpin’. The strawberry cakes here are amazing. Lots of fresh strawberries and delicious, mild frosting. I’ve also had the cream bread, which my mom makes sure to get for me whenever she comes into town and has to get some Korean drama videos(there is a Korean video store next door). I bought a birthday cake here for a finicky birthday boy who, just like me, doesn’t like frosting at all. He was very pleased with the strawberry cake. Good service. Very nice and happy to help. Had my cake nice and ready for pick up, and took great care to make sure it didn’t slide all over the place.

I have been there twice. I love their strawberry short cake. The first visit was good because it was fresh. The second visit was so so. I think they need better advertisement to get more customers. They make good cake and sell them for very affordable price in Seattle, but it seems like no many people know this place. I do not want to gamble, so I go all the way to International district to get some cake at Yummy shop which is a busy store. Go! Royal Bakery…

I’ve seen the Queen eat here, I mean why else would it be called the«Royal Bakery». Okay, so the«Queen» was a drag-queen and well I didn’t really see him eat the stuff he, I mean he/her, or is it she/it? Either way, the place was quite, clean, the cakes yummy, and the staff and their limited«Engrish» were all very helpful. Stuff you’d find in the ID and flavorful. Sponge cake was spongy and moist, what more could you ask for!

Located in a little strip mall right off Aurora, this inconspicuous little place is a gem. They offer a variety of pasteries and all are extremely reasonably priced. Be sure to try the cream puffs which are four for a dollar which are chilled in the refridgated case for maximum satisfaction. They also do wedding cakes, though I don’t have any experience with those. Overall, a great place for a little treat especially when you are low on cash.
