This location is pretty much on its last legs before closing. The posted sign by the entrance said last ten days… but during my visit this evening this place is pretty much cleaned out. There were some great discounts from 10−50%, just make sure you check the expiration dates. I also read earlier in the week though that the former Safeway, soon to be closed Haggen, has been purchased by Albertson’s to become rebranded as Safeway. Whatever, this seems to follow the trend of businesses merging just to stay relevant. During the past six months, I pretty much give my business now to Central Market, Asian Food Center, and Fred Meyer along Aurora instead.

It’s a moot point to leave a review now but like most other Unilocalers say, shoppers could see that this place wasn’t going to last here. When Haggen moved in, it felt like they were taking aim right at the Central Market crowd but felt short of the mark. They raised prices but didn’t bring the selection or quality that Central has. The handful of times that I patronized Haggen, the place was weirdly empty yet it was hard to find an employee in the store. It’ll be interesting to see what, if any store, moves in. I wish Safeway would return but I know that’s not feasible. I’ve heard that Trader Joe’s is moving into the space where the old TOP Foods/Haggens was, over on 175th.

the writing was on the wall after the first week of opening. I shopped there for 17 yrs until I went in to check Haggens out. Easily ran up $ 20 – 25 more for the same groceries. Switched over to the other Safeway’s in the area. At least the majority of employee’s have been relocated to other stores and able to keep their seniority and benefit’s. We need a store in this location and wait to see who moves in.

Correct me but this store will be closing at the end of November because lots of Haggens are just bleeding money. Except for the out of work nice employees here I don’t feel bad, I saw it coming. Haggen CEOs and executives are idiots and ran this to the ground. This store is pricey. Everytime I was in there it was empty-ish. Deals were only available in the meat section — the ones near expiration. Seafood and bakery goods and deli… ridiculous. What were they thinking? I price compare for fun… if OCD was fun. and this store is charging PCC/Whole Food prices for the crappy stuff you see at Safeway. I REALLY hope a Trader Joe’s or QFC opens here and get smart regarding how to run a store. Anything would be a step up.

I was blown away by the high prices here. This is not going to work as a business strategy because people aren’t stupid. Examples: same brand bagged salad Safeway $ 3.49, Haggen $ 4.49. They want $ 7.99 lb for deli salad of macaroni and spinach — is it tossed w gold? Top Foods, with a beautiful new store, failed for same reason just up the street. Haggen is laying off hundreds of workers in California and it will happen here unless they quickly change business model. Parking lot is empty on Sundays… sad.

The staff here is always really nice, funny, and friendly. I’ve never talked to one that didn’t strike up a conversation and have a few laughs with. However, beyond that, I’m not too impressed with this Haggens, sadly. The produce is sketchy and the entire store is just generally depressing looking. It’s a sharp contrast to the fancy Haggen’s in Stanwood. Not surprised that the company is closing stores, to be honest.

I came in today about 11AM for the Coho salmon special of $ 4.99/lb for whole fish. I got the last one for the day! Lucky me. Chris, the fish man, told me that some people come in at 6AM and buy 10 of these salmon when the special is running. No wonder. I asked him to filet my salmon and to please show me how he does that. He was very accommodating — explaining each cut as he went. He carved two beautiful filets. Guess what’s for dinner tonight! Thank you Chris. The store was very clean and tidy; I’ll return someday for produce, based on the Unilocal reviews here.

I looked at the prices and left. Way to expensive. I noticed people in a long line because there was only one cashier.

Used to be a Safeway they cut down everything prices are doubled and customer service close at 7 p.m. even though there’s people working at the customer service place

I thought that they would do more to «make it their own» because it still looks like the old safeway interior on the inside. I used to despise this store when it was Safeway because there were never enough checkouts and no self-checkout option. Still no self check-out option. It makes me wonder how long Haggen plans to operate here. Aside from that, I was impressed with the produce I bought. They do have some unique items that none of the other stores carry. Price-wise it seems overall about the same as Safeway. Their meat selection seems nice. They sell huge London Broil cuts which is a rarity to find around here. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to, but if I was in the general vicinity, I would probably would stop in and do my shopping there.

Seems to be the same employees that were working here before when it was Safeway. They have a salad bar that goes to half price after 9 pm. It’s decent — not as good as Central Market’s which is just across the street, but not as expensive. Large parking lot.

Never enough staff! I live right next to this store and every time we go in there’s a long line leading to one cashier. They always have to call a second and they don’t even get there until like 5 minutes later. If you try to get stuff out of the liquor display case it takes them forever to get there and open the damn case. There’s nobody ever around! Get on it haggens! Just hire like 2 crackheads or something I don’t care! Come at me!

Full disclosure, I worked for the Safeway that this place was before it became Haggen. That was a year before now, however, and the company changeover has brought so much to the store. The most striking change is one that affected the whole store — the shift towards quality and product sourcing. Anyone who shopped here before the swap would know that this was the place to get deals, sales, and in general hunt for a decent fifty percent off tag in nearly any department. Safeway was and presumably still is about showing off value, usually at a cost to quality for shoppers and margins to the employees. We had a tough time keeping things that weren’t on sale up to par with the goods that were marked down and bought rather quickly. Now, departments gets their pick of products they choose to sell and create a more unique product line. The cost of that is, well, cost. I would have to say that the price of everything is well within quality that you’re getting it for, but the clientele of the area has come to expect the building to be friendly to only shoestring budgets and coupon clippers. That mentality is quite diminished in the new customer approach, opting instead in a midway point between«average» and«boutique» prices. The result is that not too many people know what to expect from the new Haggen, and can’t decide if they are okay with it or not. NITTYGRITTYSTUFFBELOW, GETSLONGFROMHERE. Overall, this store is seriously upticking its quality, without having sacrificed customer service. You pay more, for sure, but you also are getting what you pay for. Quick and dirty department review: PRODUCE — Incredibly improved. Superior to other groceries in the area, and the price to quality ratio is phenomenal. I’m so proud of the team back there, making that section look awesome. FLORAL — Still great. At least as good as before, and now with more sales. MEAT/SEAFOOD — Also very improved. The diversity and quality of cuts and types of meats is great, though I will severely miss picking up my weekly proteins all at fifty percent off. PHARMACY — Largely unchanged from before, they have a good deal of autonomy. BAKERY — Quality of treats are up, sampling is pushed more, but not quite as much as other departments. It was pretty good to start with, though! DELI — Leaps and bounds better. Everything tastes better, and looks fresh made daily(I’ve been in on consecutive days, and it looked new.) The deals are at least as good as before, and they’re for things you actually want to eat. No more prepackaged salads, thank goodness! FROZEN/GROCERY — The prices are up here, the selection is about the same, but the local products are also heavily featured. Great new recipe ideas sections, and well stocked. ALCOHOL — Biggest price uptick, largest selection enhancement. Honestly thought it was trying to become a Bevmo! but some«budget» selections have had to go up in cost as a result. Overall, good if you want a new thing to try much of the time, but bad if you want a six pack of Coronas. STARBUCKET — The team here has been largely insulated from the switch, but gets the benefit of more ordering freedom, and no more movies cluttering up the side of the kiosk. Much, much better. CHECKSTANDS/CUSTOMER SERVICE — More checkers at any time than before. Yes. Newer codes and new people? Less helpful for efficient checkouts. Lines are far shorter now, though! The customer service is more prompt than before, as well, with fewer miscellaneous things to be doing during a busier time for the store.

This newly renovated Haggens is more expensive than the previous Safeway that was in this location on day to day goods. However, they are still cheaper than Central Market across the street and retain much more quality, local goods than before. And on top of that their produce section is generally cheaper, fresher and gorgeous compared to anywhere else I could possibly go INCLUDING Central Market. They have pretty good deals so far on produce such as mangos, grapefruit, and salad greens. Their deli section is bomb, and much tastier and fresher than before at comparable prices. The staff seem nervous at the switch, but still very friendly. There still seems to be a few kinks in ringing up i

I thought the place was very suspicious, in a good way. Nice selection of groceries but not too much like the bigger stores. There’s a STARBUCKS, bakery, deli and selection of beers to choose from. The people working there are nicer too. Really a «hidden» gem right smack in the middle of one of the main shopping locations with lots of parking if you want that too. Of course it’s not for everyone’s fancy but it works for me and that’s what this review is about– me. I get to be biased with this and so what if someone else doesn’t like it, I do. Thank you Haggens, it’s a spot that deserves a good rating from an honest customer.

Shopped at the former Safeway for over 2 years before it switched over to Haggen. I’m not so impressed with prices and customer service. My brother says they used to smile more when it was Safeway. Lol. The new touches to the interior is quite impressive though. Nice to have a change in Shoreline, but I do miss Safeway and their club deals!

Horrible store, long long waits for liqueur cabinet unlocks. Cashiers are rude . Very high prices. Ghetto store to say the least.

Maybe it’s the fact that they changed from Safeway to Haggen? It’s supposed to be the same staff just different name. Service was mediocre, prices weren’t remarkable. The setup is drab, and honestly if this is Haggen then I’ll drive to 125th to the best Safeway around the north end. Get it together Haggen, not very impressive.

So I really hope this isn’t what all future Haggen stores will be like. Went here first Friday the 27th of February because they sent out an ad with their grand opening specials. Nowhere was it listed on the ad that thy wouldn’t be open til Saturday the 28th. Went back Saturday the 7th of March & was surprised there were no grand opening events like samples or hotdogs in the parking lot. Do not like the parking lot layout. I imagine there will be a few fender benders in the lot. Inside the store the aisles are wide which is good because there are not enough small carts & the big ones take up a lot of room. Not impressed with the prices or selection of products. Grabbed my few items & headed to the checkout to be shocked to see only 4 checkstands open! Each line was 4 people deep & again with the large shopping carts taking up too much room. :(I picked the wrong line as Sam was quite slow. Will not go out of my way to go here.

I had a random craving for donuts and was driving on Aurora, when I decided to check out the new Haggen(used to be Safeway) today. Upon walking in, the space is huge in general, but everything was neatly organized, clean, and big signs. I got my maple bars and eggs, and went to check out. I didn’t see any self-check outs, just regular checkout stands/express. But holy cow, every single checkout stand had a line. It wasn’t your ordinary line with 2 people, but at least 5 – 7 people waiting(Reminded me of Costco) with full carts. The cashier was new, and just got in, and he scanned my eggs and then kinda asked himself if the eggs were free(?) I paused and said… um, $ 1.99?(As what it ranged up), but then another cashier walked by and they both looked for a coupon, and he scanned it, and took a dollar off. Thanks! I didn’t know about any coupons, nor promotional deals, so kindly for the cashier to remember and help me save some money. That was until I asked how long Haggen had been open, and the lady said today. OHHH, today was their grand opening… no wonder the place was packed and the parking lot was full. Customer service/staff was friendly, despite the hectic lines and demands. I didn’t see any newspapers/coupons at the front door(advertisements) so not sure when that will be up and running. There is also a Starbucks indoor, along with a small seating area complete with tables and chairs. I’m excited to have Haggen nearby, and look forward to shopping here more often.
