Give them a miss, they will nickle and dime you to death with fees. They might as well be a commercial bank.

A few months ago, i took a huge… uh. step in dealing with my money.
I didn’t have problems dealing with money. but I wanted more. I needed more discipline (hmmm.wha?).
SO, what does any self respecting suburban girl do? She calls her Daddy. No, seriously, I called my Dad.
After much discussion, in which I felt all of 12 most of the time, he agreed to open a joint account for him and I here.
For this particular account, he has 90% control of the money. This account would have no debit cards, no credit cards, he would hold the checkbook and I could only use it for the prescribed things we agreed upon. And it would be with Community 1^st.
I tripled the balance in under 60 days. In a few short months, i have enough to take a 3 month sabattical from work and not feel a pinch.
It’s amazing how many little things you spend money on when you can access it!
I love the tellers at this location. They are always cheerful, a little eclectic and it’s still a small enough place that they remember your name really quickly. (or if you’ve been banking there as long as my parent’s have… they remember your account number too!)
I have not used this bank for anything than the above mentioned *über discipline program* described above, but my parent’s have banked here since it was just SPECU back in the day and they love it too.
It cost me a little freedom, a little dignity going to Daddy, but being able to proudly become a true suga mama in just a few short months? Priceless!

Since Jennifer Michaelsen left the credit union, life has been smooth sailing. Payments have successfully been applied to our account, and life is back in order. It’s going to take some time before my trust is fully restored in this lender, however.
They’re on the right track now.
