Love this chicken! The mash potato’s are awesome!!! It beats the heck out of the people across the street. Great staff and always hot and delicious.

Wow!!! The Chicken Inn is a great go to place for good fried chicken or hot wings. Their deserts and fried biscuits and apple butter is awesome. In the appetizer arena you gotta try the fried green beans!!! Don’t go expecting great burgers, you’ll be very disappointed. My only real complaint is the number of times we’ve arrived to be told that they are out of wings, and at times their service is slow!

I was raised in a very small town. We had a school, a post office, and a diner. That’s it, So I love small town diners. Not those corporate knock off wanna be diners, but the real deal.
The Chicken Inn is the real deal. Homey, friendly, tasty, and waitresses who tend to «mother» you a little bit. I’m sold.
The food is excellent. Is it healthy? No, probably not, but, come on… live a little once in a while, OK?
The breaded tenderloin was tasty but could have used a little more seasoning. Still, it was a REAL tenderloin, not a fritter. The Walleye was simply amazing, the fries are incredible. Oddly enough, we have yet to try the chicken here… but we will.
For dessert, it’s the holy grail of desserts… Sugar Cream Pie. And a VERY ample serving. Probably the largest piece of pie I’ve ever been served in a restaurant.
Go. Trust me. Go. Live a little.

Oh man. I am a SUCKER for good fried chicken. And you’re called «The Chicken Inn»? How come I haven’t rushed to your establishment yet?!
My husband works in Shelbyville, and I thought I’d drag him out to lunch on my day off. Man oh man, did this place not disappoint. The fried chicken was DELICIOUS. Simple. Lightly breaded, if not just lightly fried. The perfect crisp, and I got 3 piece of white meat and they were SUPER juicy! It’s pretty common for people to dry out white meat chicken. Not this place.
We also got their fried green beans that comes with a yummy sauce! My husband tried their homemade apple butter and said it’s delicious! The ONLY disappointing thing about this place – I wasn’t too impressed by their homemade onion rings. You have a choice between their homemade battered onion rings or the freezer-​to-​fryer onion rings… so I opted for the homemade ones. and they were kinda burnt and oily… So I will go back for their fried chicken and green beans. I want them. My mouth is watering. Darn you Shelbyville, how dare you hide this gem?!

We found ourselves in Shelbyville on a weekday (a rarity), and we wanted to try someplace locally owned that had a breaded tenderloin. The Chicken Inn fit the bill perfectly. The service was fast and friendly, it was very clean, and had a nice, down home feel to it. I ordered the Walleye sandwich with a side of broasted potatoes. Walleye is their feature on Friday, and boy, am I glad that’s what I ordered! It was fantastic! At lunch, you can get a sandwich or filets and two sides. At dinner — it’s all you can eat Walleye for $ 12.95. They brought tartar sauce, but it was unnecessary. The fish was SO flavorful — tender and delicious! Even my husband, who is not a fish fan, said he’d be willing to try it some time! And for dessert. sugar cream pie. Our first experience at The Chicken Inn will not be our last.

The Best little Mom & Pop restaurant in Shelbyville. Always great home cooked food with down home friendly service where everyone knows your name kind of atmosphere. Patron’s from Farmers to Lawyers and they all know each other. Highly recommend the Walleye every Wednesday and Friday! Try the excellent Fried Chicken anytime of the day, the fried chicken may take a little longer to fix but you won’t be disappointed.

We were passing thru Shelbyville and thought we would try. Food was excellent. The server was awesome. She was always there when we needed her even tho she was the only one on the floor.

Delicious fried chicken and biscuits with apple butter! So glad we stopped here. Fried chicken takes 20 minutes to cook so plan ahead but they do bring out cold sides ahead of the main dish so you won’t starve.

If you like crispy, moist and tender chicken then this is the place to eat. Their delicious chicken is cooked after you order so it comes out freshly prepared and very hot. It’s worth the 20 minute wait. They have a great selection of sides to choose from and homemade desserts that are fantastic. The atmosphere is down home comfortable. Prices are reasonable so you don’t have to break the bank to eat here. They serve burgers, steak and fish as well, but it you crave finger licking good chicken then this place is really hard to beat!

Excellent fried chicken, way better than the KFC that is across the street. The donuts with apple butter is good, but I should of ordered for dessert not as an appetizer. Had sweet potato fries and potato salad as my sides. They were alright and that kept them from a 5 star. Also you can buy a shirt, but only when the owner is in because they’re locked up.

My favorite place to eat friend chicken! I approve of their bold statement they make on their sign «Best Chicken in Town». It is true! The friend chicken is huge, I prefer to get all breast and they are double the size of most other chicken places. The breading tastes excellent and the chicken has always been cooked to correct temps and tasted great.
I am a big fan of Chili, and their chili is about a 5 out of 10. The jalapeño cream cheese poppers, breaded mushrooms, mashed potatoes and gravy are very good.
You will leave here full, large servings, friendly staff, they keep my drinks full, average prices as expected. Great place for a semi-​quick lunch or dinner. Free wi-​fi would be nice, but they aren’t allowed to give you the wi-​fi password, lol.

The Best Chicken I’ve had in as long as I can remember. I may be in trouble when my wife and mother read this review. The main points reviewed are the chicken, sides I selected, and staff.
I ordered the 3 piece meal, dark meat, with an extra thigh. The broasted chicken was cooked to order meaning it comes to the table piping hot. It has a crisp skin, juicy meat, and is delicious. For my sides I had broasted potatoes and slaw. The potatoes were flavorful and perfectly done. The slaw was really tasty and not over or under dressed. It was not a vinegar base dressing so if vinegar is your thing it might not be for you but I’d still recommend giving it a try because I liked it that much.
It looked like they have quite a following as we were eating the place filled up. That’s a good sign the foods fresh because it’s not sitting.
We’ll definitely be returning and would recommend them to anyone craving delicious chicken.

Went to get take out last Friday. and it was just as good as it was when I was a kid. The gals working behind the counter were super friendly. and the food was yum yum in the tum tum. I like how they have the white gravy for the mashed potatoes. and the dinner rolls instead of the biscuits. We got everything for a decent price. and this place buries the nasty KFC in this town. I will be back. as always.

Great place to eat. Ordering was smooth. The sugar biscuits and apple butter were really good. Even if you are by yourself, order the 5 biscuit cause the 2 biscuits are just too few. The chicken was fresh, hot, and not greasy at all. If you are in the area, stop in for some food you won’t forget. They also had salads and burgers, but not able to comment on those.

The chicken was great! Cooked fresh and still very hot when I got home. I highly recommend this fine little place.
