We started at the Merchants Café and saw that the underground was open! I usually come by and the underground is roped off so this was my chance! I am guessing I should review the Café as well separately so more on that later. When I walked down and saw the heaters going and the intimate group of great people at the bar talking, it was immediately the atmosphere I was looking for, for my current group of people I had brought over. It was a nice dark place with many theme like saloon doors, lanterns, and other decorations pertaining to the time of year we were in. The bar tender was very attentive and alert as well as helpful and friendly. The little nook they had at the bar made the saloon feel very intimate and the seating area outside of that welcomed groups to congregate personally in its womb. I wondered what the underground history was like back in the day. False windows now hang in the holes of one wall while original brick work surrounded us. The drinks were fairly priced for a Friday night and made well. Thanks for the nice experience!

Seattle’s best kept secret! Bartender not only had a great personality but also served up some incredible drinks. The Beecher’s cheese curds were delicious! The décor made you feel like you had gone back in time.

oh my goodness! how does this place not have more reviews??? this place is a GEM! Boyfriend and I were on our way to the Mariner’s game on a Friday evening, but wanted to stop somewhere to get our drank on, and I really had to pee so we pretty much went into the first bar we saw while walking around Pioneer Square. There was a sign outside of the restaurant that is on top of this bar that read«Seattle’s oldest restaurant» or something like that. so that intrigued us. We then saw a sign that led us to the«underground bar». my, oh my, so tiny! but the place was super vintage, a little creepy, and very laid back. Not only that, but our bartender, who I think is from Australia, was all smiles and super friendly. There was only him and another couple in there at that time, but I had such a good time drinking my grey goose and socializing with everyone. And if I remember correctly, there was a special 20% off deal going on. i think something like 20% off after 4pm? Who knows, but I remember being surprised that my grey goose and my boyfriend’s Jameson were not only great pours but very affordable.
