just a classic dive-y bar. come with your friends and shoot some free pool with cheap ass drinks my pool partner for the night asked me to grab her boob which was certainly a strange thing to ask but +1 star i guess.

This is a racist establishment. When I walked in i was asked for more than 3 different forms of ID by the bartender who was rude and mean. I have friends that go there bc they are white and love to sing there, but they will never understand how it is to have to explain your existance and try to explain why you belong there. The bartender was aggressive and tried to fight by pushing me and egging me on. I just wanted to leave. If you are not white this place is not for you.

Loved this place! Super laid back. Free pool and karaōke in the front. We stumbled onto this place in search of karaōke. Drinks are cheap and strong. Overall a great little place, will come back when visiting Seattle.

My whole family comes here for good delicious pizza, which is only a $ 1.50 per slice & includes a free pop. We love the fact that it stays open 7 days a week any time at night after 5pm. Also the décor is old-fashioned and lovely with whimsy throughout! :) 5 stars!!!

I’m a Monkey regular. It’s a great dive bar for what it is, cheap strong drinks and a good time with friends. If you are expecting something super nice or upscale this isn’t your place. Also they don’t make a large variety of drinks, but what they do make does the job. Kareoke is great and music is updated often, a lot of songs aren’t in the book so be sure to check out the facebook page dedicated to the Monkey’s kareoke nights. There is also game nights on most Wednesdays. As others have said this isn’t a bro-y bar, a lot of people come here frequently and are friendly.

What a great find! After going to Magnuson Park with my dog Ozzie, a friend from out of town and I were looking for a dog friendly place to have a couple adult beverages. After a Google search, we trekked over to the Monkey Pub and it was perfect. Not only could Ozzie roam around freely and play with other dogs, but the staff and patrons were so friendly and welcoming! I do not live in the area, but will definitely make the drive over to the U-District again with Ozzie.

This will remain the best neighborhood bar, even when it’s NOT in my hood. I started coming here years ago and became part of the Monkey family. I’ve made so many friends, especially during a good Sunday karaōke session! Support this business, and it will support you! I love me some Monkey Pub!

Love it. It is so laid back. $ 6PBR or Rainier + pool = an awesome bar. They also have a bunch of board games you can play while drinking. The bartenders are also very nice, and you’re allowed to bring food in. We ordered Mama Mia’s pizza next door and got to enjoy some pizza with our cheap beer. :) Definitely would go back again.

Friday night trivioke(trivia followed by karaōke) at the Monkey Pub is my new favorite way to socialize with coworkers. Starting at 8 p.m., the trivia game($ 3 per person to play) includes four different rounds, and then you can stick around for karaōke if that’s your thing. Someone usually checks IDs just inside or outside the front door. The place can get pretty crowded, but it’s not too difficult to get a pint of beer at the bar between trivia rounds. They have Deschutes Black Butte porter on tap, so there’s that. Sometimes they run low on clean glasses and have to serve beer in plastic cups, and the men’s room door doesn’t seem to lock. Classy.

The bartenders are pretty friendly, and the interior is fuckin’ legit. But, if you’re to headbanger, sort it out or you’ll get frowns. And, don’t go standing near the damn pool table with yer beer shit-brick, ya got that?! Yea, its narrow, but felt costs money. It should go without sayin’, but it seems to happen at the monkey a bit to much. I too, am guilty of friends I’ve brought here, doing exactly that… bein’ shit-bricks…Sorry guys! :D $ 6 pitchers of PBR most of the time can’t hurt, either! Good for karaōke, especially groups. The song list they have is pretty amazing, and I’d be willing to bet, you can’t look through the whole thing in one drinking evening, and not find a song you wanna sing! The pool tables are pretty decent, but the sticks can suck. I love the bathroom, as well. Just remember to bring your sharpie!

This place is pretty darn awesome. I went here for my midnight birthday party this year and had a super time. i arrived a bit buzzed already and found myself there on karaōke Sunday. Boys and girls… momma LOVES her karaōke. I got up and sang my newly 25 year old heart out. The bar tender and the karaōke dj were absolute dolls and helped to make our night. I will be going back for some crazy karaōke times as soon as i get the chance.

Delightful dive. Went for the 8pm Friday night Trivioke(I’ll let you figure that one out) which was sweet. I’m terrible at trivia but this was really fun. Unfortunately did not stay for karaōke but hope to next week!

At last! A dive-y bar in U-District that isn’t filled with bros. I love it! The Monkey meets all my dive bar requirements : 1) $ 3 drafts 2) Free pool 3) Great jukebox music selection

I have not reviewed the Monkey yet? Shame on me! Oh how I wish I still lived a couple blocks away from this place. I love the Monkey, great affordable drinks, chill people. There are pool tables but that’s not my thing. Love the karaōke on Friday and Sunday nights! Believe they do it after trivia. I’m not good with the smarts so I don’t do trivia. If John Waters came to the U district this is where he’d go to look for lovable deviants.

Why go to Dante’s for ANY reason when you can go to this lovely dive bar across the street? ++They have«Today Was A Good Day» by Ice Cube. I’ve waited a long time to be able to sing it. MUCHIMPRESSED

Your typical U District dive type place. Friendly enough people and lots of crazy stuff hanging off of the ceiling and walls. Bring your bad tattoos and fixed gear bike and drink some PBR. This is a good pick to come and drink some cheap beer and play pool. When you’ve had enough drink, you have the option of crossing the street and going to the booze-free university«student» naked junkie emporium. Such is the classiness of this local drag.

This place hits the spot for a drunk on a budget. $ 4 pitchers of PBR. FOURDOLLARPITCHERS! Do you hear me?! Weird, eclectic décor and seedy clientele are just right up my alley, and the monkey delivers. Cheap food, and cheap beer. Don’t expect more, and don’t expect less, and you’ll leave satisfied.

I was here for the first time last night and it doesn’t reek of what it looks like: skanky, greasy, toothless or bent over. There seems to be a lot going on. There’s trivia on Fridays, 4 dolla PBR pitchers on HH ’till 9; Karaōke; 2.50 for PBR; two pool tables; food; and funny characters to delight the eyes. The bathrooms are pretty decent if you can ignore the sex-tagging. There’s no STDs screaming or winking at you in the bathroom. The beers reflect the place, so don’t come in expecting premium local beers. Come in expecting to get shit-faced on PBR. Shout-outs to the lames that showed up late and the ones that left early. You know who you are.

One word: Trivioke. I have only been here on Friday nights for trivia and karaōke with Mr. Patrick, but that is all I need. I love this place. The trivia is hard so I feel like I have really accomplished something if I get third place. It’s serious business, $ 3 in and winner takes all the cash. Second, third, and last get drinks from the bar. Then karaōke like no other. You should come so I can win your money.

Darts? Check Pool tables? Check Karaōke in front of random strangers? Check Dive bar to the fullest, complete with biker dudes, an awesome bartender, and some funky decorations. Shoutout to Stephi the bartender for pouring our pitchers and also singing I Kissed a Girl. Moments of the night: The minute we walked in, the guy singing took off his shirt. Singing Umbrella. And will never listen to the song the same way again.
