How I heard of this place: I have walked by the Broadway Grill numerous times over the years, as it changed ownership and name, but had not had the opportunity to sample it until my dining companion and I walked by. Among the various eateries on Broadway that we could have selected, this was the one that was most enticing, as it has large, warehouse style windows that open up onto the patio for those warm Seattle summer evenings. Type of cuisine: Northwest, American, simple and tasty. Ambiance: Open, spacious seating outdoors and in the space directly indoors. The indoor seating along the front gives the diner the opportunity to feel like one is enjoying a meal outside when the garage-door windows are open to the fresh air. The back of the restaurant also hosts a large seating area for bigger parties and more privacy from passerby. What I ordered: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich($ 11), placed on a small baguette with caramelized onions, soft brie cheese and a light, but flavorful dressing. Alongside, I substituted the herbed garlic fries(thick-cut and very well-seasoned) for the gorgonzola fries(same jo jo’s doused in a creamy gorgonzola sauce). My dining companion selected the turkey burger($ 13) with a Greek flair. The patty of ground turkey included a plethora of herbs and set in a square-shaped ciabatta roll with mixed greens and a light, Greek inspired sauce. Served on the side were the herbed garlic fries. We passed up any appetizers in order to enjoy the cast iron skillet chocolate chip cookie sundae($ 6); a hot, thick, doughy chocolate chip cookie, about five inches in diameter was baked to gooey perfection and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. What I loved: The sandwiches both had good flavor. The turkey burger being the favorite of my dining companion… between the two entrees. Once dessert appeared, however, the story changed. We were both blown away by the piping hot, ooey, gooey, cookie doughy delicacy. Why I loved it: The space was perfect for a late summer lunch, the service friendly and the staff entertaining. The portions of food, while smaller than many establishments, gave for a great lunch with no leftovers. And the cookie, well, that deserves a return trip! Cost: Average($ 10-$ 15 for lunch-sized entrees)

I really enjoyed this place! I’m so sad it closed. It had tasty food, a cute atmosphere and a great spot on Broadway. I ate here multiple times and the staff was always friendly and prompt. They did a brunch with a drag show on Sundays that was a lot of fun, Mimosas with Mama. I’ve been here for number of brunches after bachelorette parties or a night out. A final adieu, Grill on Broadway. I will remember you always.

Oh, The Girl. How the glory has faded. I would give it only two stars, but am adding a third star for nostalgia’s sake. I remember going here way back in the early 90’s when it was one of a few restaurants on Broadway and was THE place to have dinner and drinks. Many a drunken night was spent here in my early 20’s. I used to order the Grilled Chicken and Brie sandwich almost religiously. Last night we went for the first time in over 10 years and it either wasn’t as good as I remembered it being, or my tastes have really changed. The service was pretty bad and the food was mediocre. The fries were cold and lifeless, and the Chicken and Brie sandwich was surprisingly bland. Unfortunately it’s going under like so many other Cap Hill institutions and as much as they have tried, they just haven’t been able to turn it around after a few rough years. My hat goes off to the new owners for making an effort and it will be sad to see another place that has been around for 20+ years fade away. Progress marches on though, and there are bound to be a few casualties along the way. Thanks for all of the memories Broadway Girl… it was fun!

We were in the area and stopped in for happy hour. Adorable little place with a nice casual-chill vibe. Looks like the garage doors come up when the weather is nice. I love the idea of the open area on the sidewalk to people watch. They have a small happy hour menu, but good food to choose from. We each had a quesadilla and a beer and shard the hummus. The service is great; we were greeted and seated instantly. Our server was cool, attentive and upbeat without being annoying.

I pass by this place all the time during their happy hour, & it’s always super packed! Alas, I did not come for happy hour. Tuesday night at 8:30, its pretty dead. But the food didn’t come out bad! The lober mac & cheese was desiccant and rich, exactly what a cold dreary day in Seattle needed. The service was very friendly, I can’t wait to check out their HH.

Bottom Line — The food is about on par with what you’d expect in a university dining hall operated by Sodexo. The Sunday brunch buffet is disappointing. Think Hilton Garden Inn breakfast buffet and that’s what you’ve got. I haven’t been impressed with the food at The Grill on Broadway, even when it was The Broadway Grill(sad that the change in name didn’t affect the food). I try not to criticize without giving alternatives. For brunch(and dinner), check these places out(and in this order): –Toulouse Petite on lower Queen Anne. –Harvest Vine on East Madison. –Ma’Ono in West Seattle

30 for 30: Awful waiter totally ruined this place for me. Let’s start at the beginning: this place is def. not as glitzy or interesting as a lot of its neighbors. Panevino has the atmosphere. Samurai has yummy Asian fare. The Grill on Broadway is standard American food(nothing wrong with that!) with some uncomfortable looking chairs and tables. To the side, there’s a bar area where karaōke was going on and they told us there would be no service there. Maybe no service would have been better. So as I said, someone is screeching over on the other side of the bar so I can’t hear too well. The waiter comes and mumbles something about ordering and I go, «I’m sorry. Could you repeat what you just said?» He glares at me and goes«you know… you go to a restaurant, the waiter comes up and then you ORDER your food and drinks!» I was honestly flabbergasted and mumbled«sorry I couldn’t hear» and asked for my hot toddy. I told my friend and he said we could leave but the order was going through for the drink and so we didn’t want to be jerks. The drink took forever but my friends red bean burger did not. I went to the bathroom and when I came back my friend said, «you were right about that waiter. He is rude» While I was gone, my friend noticed some Indian writing on his tattoos(my friend is Indian) and asked him about it in an attempt to be friendly. I guess the waiter just kind of said«it means x and x» and my friend asked about the language and the waiter said something like«just don’t worry about it!» and stomped off on him. You don’t have to become best buds with your waiter but I think my friend just felt that it wasn’t an isolated incident and overall, we were just kind of shocked by his abrasiveness. And don’t tell me the restaurant was busy. He was serving 2 tables. On the plus side, my hot toddy was only $ 5?

I hate giving awful reviews, but this was the worst service I’ve ever had. It took them over 2 hours to get our food to us from when we walked in. We were our server’s only table, but we had to go find him flirting with a coworker whenever we needed something. Mediocre food(there were also mistakes in the order) and downright bad desserts. The waiter wasn’t willing to split our check more than 2 ways. There are a lot of options in the area for where to eat. Use a different one.

This doesn’t deserve the 3 start average it has. Maybe my 5 stars come from the nostalgia of loving this place for the decade I’ve been coming here, but it is a really good atmosphere if you like animated co-patrons, friendly(if sometimes amusingly sassy) wait staff, and decent grill food. It’s not upscale dining, but it doesn’t pretend to be. $ 10-$ 12 for not the best burger ever. The sweet potato fries are great. The garlic fries are good, but I always regret them later. don’t get the chicken and brie, it’s boring. I love the fun events they have here! The Sunday brunch is expansive, but not worth it for a vegetarian– order from the regular menu.

We tried them again for the first time in over a year due to previously less-than-stellar experiences with both the food and service. That was a mistake never to be repeated. I’m pretty sure the only reason we ever went here was out of a sense of gay guilt in terms of feeling obligated to support gay-owned/friendly businesses. In fact, gay guilt is probably the reason I’m giving this place two stars instead of one. Anyway, the egg and black bean burrito yesterday bizarrely featured marinara sauce, and canned marinara sauce at that. What? You heard me correctly, marinara sauce, which made no sense at all and literally turned my stomach. It was not«ranchero sauce» as advertised on the menu, unless ranchero sauce is now made with canned tomatoes and dried basil and oregano. The potatoes were also raw and drenched in what appeared to be a buffalo wing sauce. I can only assume the line cooks were all hungover or still drunk when they made my brunch. Having worked in the service industry for so long, it takes a seriously disgusting meal for me to bother a server with sending it back. But this time I just couldn’t stomach looking at and smelling the contents of my plate. When I politely told the server«I’m sorry, I can’t eat this, the marinara sauce on the egg burrito is turning my stomach» the hipster server became so angry she fogged up her over sized, grandpappy American Apparel glasses with impotent fury. She snatched my plate, then came back a few minutes and hurled a beverage refill toward me. When we left, I tipped her as if they hadn’t comped my meal despite her awful attitude because I figured it would piss her off even more. We’ve been here a handful of times over the past three years and we’ve never been impressed. It’s just not really good at all, and in fact the«not really good» seems to have morphed into«exceptionally bad.» Go elsewhere, and don’t worry about keeping the drag queens here in rhinestones and wigs, there are plenty of places to earn your $ 1s in Seattle.

FYI — If you check-in here on Unilocal from your phone, you get free gorgonzola fries. The fries alone will make it worth coming here for a meal. I had been here a few years ago on a date, but being the shy girl that I am, I only had a cesar salad. Not much to review! A month or so ago, my cousin, girlfriend, and I decided to come by here being that it was the only place that had parking near it and was open serving food and not just alcohol. For me, this was basically my first time coming here as far as eating their food being that I only had a salad previously. I always check-in on Unilocal when I go some where and to my surprise, I got a check-in deal for free gorgonzola fries. The waitress was extremely nice and brought us everything we asked for as quickly as she could. I thought it was a bit inconvenient for both her and everyone eating there for her to be the only server working that night, so it was slow getting everything, but she didn’t forget anything we asked for which servers tend to do when it’s super busy. I forget what I ordered the first night there, but I was overly satisfied. My cousin and girlfriend had no complaints either. Everything was extremely delicious and was fresh — not something that tasted like it was sitting under a hot lamp for a half hour. I could of ordered another plate of the gorgonzola fries, ’cause as I said previously, those were enough to make me want to come back. The food being great added to it though. I came here again with my girlfriend and once again, it was only one waitress working. It wasn’t as busy, so we got our food quicker than our last visit, but it was still a bit on the slow side. That’s probably my only complaint. Other than that, once again the food was amazing. I had the lobster macaroni and my girlfriend got a pasta of some kind. It again was very fresh and fulfilled our expectations. I plan on returning whenever I’m in the area again. This is one of my favorite spots now and everything is around $ 9 – 16. Not bad at all for some of the meals they have.

I bought a living social deal for this restaurant. They also give you a plate of free fries(with purchase of entrée) if you check in here on Unilocal mobile. Its meatloaf is absolutely delicious and yummy. Its fries was delicious. It was really tasty but it was slightly too salty. The fries were also filling. By the time my entrée arrived, I was already almost full. The service was okay. Nothing too stellar like Katy H. mentioned. BUTDEFINITELY will come back for its meatloaf!

I was really impressed with the service, location, and menu selection. But it stops right there. I thought the food choices were excellent but when we got down to eating it, the tastes where a bit on the bland side and nothing really stood out. We got there during happy hour so we took advantage of the specials. My wife and I split a quesadilla, truffle fries, and an order of beef sliders. All of it was OK but that’s pretty much it. And that sums up my view of this place, really just OK.

Based on the reviews, I must have come here on a good night because I enjoyed my visit. Maybe only time will tell? My friend and I waltzed in here on a Saturday night(I was really surprised to see how dead it was on a Saturday night) to grab some apps and drinks. We were seated and someone was out to check on us fairly quickly and continued to check on us regularly through our visit(maybe because no one was here?). I had the steak nachos which were really tasty except the steak was in large chunks over the chips so it wasn’t very easy to eat, and my friend ordered the sweet potato fries which were tasty as well. It’s a cute place in a good location, we had good food(but not spectacular) and drinks and an attentive waiter, but it does seem like they need to do something about bringing in some more clientele. It was way too quiet and deserted for a Saturday night.

Broadway Grill has one of my favorite happy hours on Broadway. $ 5 gets you a plate of three HUGE sliders! I like the seared ahi ones with wasabi mayo — generous piece of ahi, and the baguette is soft, not crispy or doughy. And $ 4 gets you a heavy pour double, which makes Todd a happy boy. Plus, on Sundays, HH is from 2pm to close. Other than HH, this place is just a-ok. Food is kind of expensive and nothing on the menu really speaks to me. I probably wouldn’t go unless it was HH, in fact.

I’ve been to The Broadway Grill a handful of times and learned a few things. Good practices: + Paying with cash! It’s just safer that way. + Sticking to drinks. Booze is best. + Aim to be a boy-only or girl-only table. Seems to result in better service. Possibly Bad Practices: — Going here as a boy-girl table. Especially a 2-person table. Why? There was a time when the waiter never came back to take our order and there was a time I got TWO rounds of cold fries even though the second one was supposed to be the replacement for the first bad ones. At the same time we were seeing the boys-only table next to us get great service and the person I was with said he had good experiences every other times he had been there… with his guy friends. — Order food unless you somehow know that’s a «good» idea. That’s just never gone well for me here. — Pay with your debit/credit card. Why? Sources seem to suggest that the one alright experience I had here when I took Xav and Ahna out for drinks was how those Capitol Hill CC fraud scammers got my debit card info. BECU caught the issue before the purchase went through, but it was still a hassle and I needed to get a replacement debit card.(Plus that whole«my information isn’t safe» bit kind of sucks.) I just can’t seem to have a truly good experience here. I should probably stop trying…

There are so many things I enjoy about The Broadway Grill. From the moment you step off the bustling street into the ambiance, you are greeted by classy, seasonal décor and friendly staff. There is ample seating, so you can choose to sit in the front, at any 3 sides of the bar, or in the back. My choice depends on when, why, and with who I go. Drinks and apps with the boys — into the back with the TV. Brunch with the girl — grab a table or spot at the bar. No matter what time of day you go, you will be happy with the food and beverage offerings. For lunch, dinner, or any other time of day the food is great and the prices are good. Some favorites are the pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. But don’t forget the $ 2 Bud Lights and $ 4 «Boozy Double Well Drinks» at Happy Hour aka«All Day, Everyday.» There are also daily drink specials, such as Mojito Mondays. And on Saturday and Sunday from 8AM — 2PM there is a breakfast buffet that is all you can eat and includes one mimosa for $ 13. Can’t beat that! Overall, The Broadway Grill is a fun place to have a few drinks, some good fun, and just hang out with friends. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Capital Hill and probably my favorite on that strip of Broadway.

So did people confuse The Broadway Grill with some other crappy establishment because I’m a little surprised! All of my experiences have been pleasant. But then as they say, reviews on Unilocal are more likely to be negative than they are positive. Happy hour menu is absolutely awesome. Drinks aren’t very stiff but when you get two wells and a nice buzz for around $ 5, I’m ok with that. Blah blah sweet potato fries, yes they are good blah blah. The food is otherwise a little generic for my taste but it does the job for an after-work pick me up or a late-night grub fest. Ingredients taste fresh to me which is really important. Staff are friendly and on occasion, nice to look at. I’ll continue my patronship!

3.1415926535897 stars. Neat place that is much bigger than it appears from the outside. It didn’t take too long to get our entrees. I had the Jamaican Jerk Chicken with mashed yams, spinach and a piece of bread. My better half had the Ribeye with Yukon gold mashed ‘taters, spinach and bread. Both dishes are a wee bit higher than the average in terms of taste. The Jamaican Chicken was basically a boneless chicken breast with seasoning. The tender ribeye steak consisted of two thin cuts grilled to perfection. What I didn’t understand too much were two things: 1) What is the bread slice for? There is no sauce or anything really to dip and no butter for the bread. 2) I am not certain why anyone would enjoy mashed yams as they didn’t go well with the chicken. I really think that they would benefit from offering baked potatoes as an option. However, the tasty sauteed spinach in fried garlic reminded me of my favorite Chinese vegetable dish(pronounced OMCHOY) with extra garlic. Dessert: Fried Banana cheesecake flaunta. Two fried rolls filled with banana flavored cheesecake with one scoop of vanilla ice cream. Good but again nothing really memorable here.

I’ve been here before… but it’s been years. Today I decided to pop in for some lunch before grabbing coffee at Vivace. I ordered the Beer Braised Beef… say that three times fast… because I was in the mood for some comfort food. Mmmmmmmmmm, comfort food is what I got. It was so delicious and tender and just plain ol’ yummy. I did find it a bit salty for my taste, but then wondered if that was just because I was watching my sodium intake recently… so no subtraction of stars for that. Service was quick and friendly and the place was clean. No complaints here!
