My wife and I had two days to spend in Seattle and one of our first stops was Smith, really just because we were walking by and the décor and menu looked interesting. Holy hell, did we have a wonderful time. We sat at the bar and I ordered a gin and Smith Housemade Tonic, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I have ever had. It was citrusy, but not overpowering, with many interesting layers of flavor. So damn refreshing. We ordered the zucchini fritters, artichoke and Mac and cheese, and everything was perfectly cooked and extraordinarily delicious. Chazz was our bartender and was so hospitable and enthusiastically answered all of our questions. You can tell that he takes a lot of pride in the place and truly loves what he does, which always does wonders for the experience on the other side of the bar. We enjoyed our first visit to Smith so much that we went back the next day for lunch and were floored by another fantastic meal and round of cocktails. Definitely recommend.

Went late on a Monday night. I brought my boyfriend there as a surprise congratulations dinner, and since he works in a kitchen I thought it would be fun to order for us and have all the food be a surprise as it came out. Our server, Renee, was so awesome. She helped make suggestions without hinting to him at all what was going on. She checked back a few times and asked him what he thought of our choices. I’ll definitely be back again, probably for a more conventional dining experience. As for the food, we had the poutine(with brisket of course), swedish meatballs with cabbage, the beet salad and the burger. It was all fantastic and full of flavor. I recommend it to anyone and can’t wait to go back to try more.

A group of us headed to Smith yesterday for brunch. And while the company we kept was absolutely great, the Smith/restaurant side of the meal was a bit lackluster. I do want to premise it with the fact that our waitress seemed very attentive when it came to replacing our table bottles of water. She did not ask us how our meal was at any time though, or to check in to see how we were doing, but that did not detract from the experience at all. She seemed very polite without hovering. As for what we ate while we were there, I ordered a Brisket Sandwich and my husband ordered a Smith Burger, both of which came with a side of fries. Unfortunately both main dishes lacked any seasoning, and came off as very bland. My brisket was incredibly dry, and was hard to eat because of the lack of moisture, the cheese had hardened by the time it reached me, and my fries were soaked in oil — making them limp, wet, and heavy with grease. My husband’s burger, while having an excellent char-broiled taste, wasn’t properly seasoned. It was cooked to a beautiful medium though, which was unfortunately wasted. The restaurant is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. It had high ceilings, taxidermy and portraits line the walls without it feeling overdone, near the bar in a lofted area, there is an antique trunk with hardcover and leather bound books piled around it. The skylights also filled the place with light, which was so nice. is a gorgeous place to have brunch, and I am willing to try this place again. Next time, I will be sure to order something else.

O yum, their cocktails are delish. I have a certain group of friends who love to go barhoppin or doing«sunday» or «Saturday» «funday» which is usually a whole day of drinking from place to place. Well, one of the guys was like«lets head over to 15th and go barhop» and of course we agreed. We ended up here at the end of the night and it was pretty dead at this point but didn’t hinder us from having fun and enjoying our cocktails. I got the one that is in the image for this place which had strawberry sorbet in it and was good. Everyone got a different cocktail and we went around and shared each other’s drinks. 15th is pretty sleepy kind of place but it was a great ending to a great night.

Great bunch spot. Everything about this place is ideal. Parking availability, little wait to no wait, delicious food and reasonably priced. Trendy vide with a smaller new American menu. The food is presented simply, but beautifully and is executed at a high level. I got grits and greens with bacon and egg added, and the grits were well seasoned. My girlfriend got the gravlox that looked and tasted amazing. The food highlighted the fresh ingredients prepared with an attention to detail. Service was friendly and enthusiastic. Definitely going again!

One of THE best brunch spots I’ve ever been to. Reasonably priced and great, giant pitchers of mimosas. Get the chicken n waffles, as well as the grits — add greens and eggs. Will not be disappointed. 5 Stars!

Food = 2 stars Service = 1 star Drinks = 4 stars Bar turnaround time = 1 star Overall, Smith was a big disappointment for me and my seven friends who were visiting from out of state. I spent many hours researching restaurants in Capitol Hill that would fit the bill with my group of eight(price, quality, selection) and decided on Smith and booked a reservation. We were seated at one of the two communal tables in the middle of the restaurant. Service was incredibly slow. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks. A second round of drinks took another 30 minutes. The drinks fell into the craft cocktail genre which is never really a home run for me because I like simple drinks made really well. I don’t need to drink a cocktail that is infused with hay or lavender. I want a kick-ass mojito or cosmopolitan or something of the like. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I believe there were three small pieces of chicken, all of which were overcooked. The pie was mostly filled with onions and a few carrots and was covered with a puff pastry lid(no crust on the sides or bottom). I asked my friends what they thought of their entrees and all responded in the same manner — eh, average. My friend who ordered the chicken pot pie had the same thoughts as I did. Total letdown. Will not return.

First of all, the taxidermy is not impressive… I wouldn’t have even noticed it except Unilocalers kept mentioning it. Taxidermy in Texas is much bigger and tackier! The chicken in chicken and waffles was amazing! The waffle was slightly overdone and I could’ve done without it but the chicken!!! Amazing!!! Great environment. The couple next to me was on their first date and I listened to their conversation the ENTIRETIME! That’s how close they seat you.

My husband and I are visiting from California and because I’m super cheesy, I wanted to come here because our last name is Smith. I’m so glad we did. The service was great, everyone was so sweet and helpful and the cocktails were delicious. I had the risotto and it was fabulous. My husband got the half order of the poutine with briskit and it was gigantic and delicious. Definitely stopping by again next time we’re in town! Hopefully next time they will have a sweatshirt in my size

My first time here was for a late brunch(around 1:30pm) on a Sunday and most of the crowd was already gone by then — leaving a lot of open tables to choose from. Friendly and prompt service and really cool interior — lots of taxidermy, paintings, vintage lighting. The food was delicious as well — we tried the oak mushroom eggs benedict and the chicken and waffles. Good flavor and decent portions. Try the Masala Mule — the chai infused vodka was surprisingly good. Will be back to try happy hour!

Chicken and waffles were good tasting, but the chicken was a bit small and there were parts of the waffles that were a little burnt. Brisket sandwich was probably my favorite in terms of flavor, but ask for extra napkins ahead of time! Also they only serve drip coffee, so don’t show up expecting a nice cappuccino with your brunch! If you have more than 4 people they sit you at a long communal style table rather than push smaller tables together. Overall I wouldn’t come back just for brunch, but their dinner menu looks good

OMG! An amazing experience here! Our WWLW group met here for brunch and a taste and talk on Templeton Rye Whiskey. We had the large family style table in the middle of the room. Smith was a great place for this because of their vintage style themed restaurant that paired perfectly with our vintage style whiskey. The tastings were great, starting with our own crafted cocktail especially created for us! And then there was the food! The food was so beautifully presented and so delicious, I barely could get pics because of our family style eating! Who wants to take pics when if you don’t grab it, you lose it? Not me! We were served corned beef breakfast sandwiches with a side of perfectly crispy and salted fries. And the sandwiches were delicious. Loaded with corned beef and topped with an over easy egg, they were a perfect compliment to our whiskey. Our next course was a chicken and waffle plate. The chicken was probably the best I’ve ever had in Seattlr. So moist and juicy on the inside, and golden brown and crunchy on the outside. Atop of a crunchy waffle with real butter and maple syrup, my tastebuds were dancing! While we were still munching on the waffles, a plate of roasted veggies was passed around that were a nice change from the sweet and heavy of the previous 2 dishes. It was a mix of veggies that were roasted to just tender, leaving them with a perfect crunch. To finish the meal, we were then brought a bowl of Greek yogurt with fresh fruit on top. Like the other dishes before us, this was just as delicious. We finished the meal with more whiskey and a sazerac cocktail for him, and a 712 Sour for me. The sazerac was good, but my sour was delicious. More like a whiskey mule. Very refreshing.

Brunch on a weekend, how can it get better? There are animal heads on the walls. That aside, the food and drink are pretty good. We had steak and eggs and the country fried steak. Big portions, done right. Staff was friendly and quick. Fried potatoes were way too much to eat them all. There are some long communal tables, but we were sitting at in itty bitty table along the wall. It did feel a bit cramped, but it wasn’t horrible.

Brunch was alright. We ordered the chicken and waffles, mushroom eggs Benedict, and French toast. The waffles were probably the best part of meal, chewy and delicious– I wish I could come back and order just waffles. Mushroom Benedict was good, like any other Benedict. French toast was meh. Sweet and not a great filling. TIP: DONOTGETTHECIDERTOAST. I ordered it thinking oh I love cider and I love toast, how can this go wrong? I don’t think I’ve ever had a piece of bread I disliked until now. It tasted… Just bad. Although the the waiter was super nice and took it off our bill when I said I didn’t like it so that was nice.

Smith is like a great neighbor: casually running into and staying for hours. Being one of my favorite places on the hill I may be a bit biased but I always have a genuinely fabulous time here. Brunch, HH, Dinner, or just drinks, it’s hard to go wrong. It’s a very cozy ambiance where taxidermy lines the entire left wall of the space, sprinkled with booths, farm style tables in the middle and little 4 tops towards the right. The menu changes out occasionally but some of the staples and crowd favorites are the smith burger, sweet potato fries, scotch egg, and poutine. Maybe those are just my favorites?! I generally enjoy their rotating vegetable dish as well. Their cocktails are classic and reliable… make a great hot toddy. I also enjoy the beer selection on tap. Of course they have Lucille beer on tap so enough said. I find myself meeting friends here for various occasions and enjoy having a favorite place good for multiple types of meet ups. Thanks for being my neighbor, Smith.

Went there for a few glasses of wine. I noticed a coworker was a few stools away(at this point I had had a glass and a half of wine). We were talking, and she said something I couldn’t hear. I went to move in, and accidentally hit my wine glass. It spilled, I apologized, offered to help clean it up, and my coworker tried to buy me a new glass, but the bartender refused to serve me since I accidentally spilled — he explicitly said that anyone who spills on his bar is cut off. I understand controlling intoxicated people, but regular patrons who might be a bit clumsy as part of who they are– I’m just a naturally clumsy person who noticed a coworker a few seats down.

Fun place for a great brunch! We walked into the rustic restaurant filled with framed pictures and taxidermy animals mounted on the wall. We were seated quickly because we had made a reservation(highly recommend). Everyone fawned over the menu and ended ordering chicken and waffles, vegetable hash, and eggs Benedict, all excellent!!! The only thing that put a damper on or meal was our waitress who after asking us our drink orders walked away as half our table was ordering along with a few other things. It was very odd service. Nonetheless I’ll be going back for brunch!

Very interesting aesthetic — reminds me of All Saints with a splash of rustic. If you have a phobia of taxidermy, sorry to say there is no shortage of taxidermy along the walls. I could do without that décor detail but the rest of the restaurant is charming and has a fun atmosphere. It can get very loud but the booths are pretty intimate so it’s no problem. Music could be a tad quieter though, I think. I recommend making a reservation as the wait for brunch can be really long, it’s nice to get there and be seated immediately! The brunch menu(only on weekends) has a decent variety of options from savory to sweet and bigger plates to small bites. I got the chicken and waffles after reading so many reviews on it and it is DELICIOUS. A must try. Also, it’s only $ 13 — which frankly I was surprised to see because you would expect it to be more, particularly for being in Cap Hill. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and very very flavorful. So good. It comes with 4 small waffles, 4 pieces of chicken(pretty generous portion), some syrup, and butter. It will fill you up! My friends all really enjoyed their dishes. We were very disappointed in the service however. Our server was very cold and repeatedly rude. The only thing that makes me hesitant to come back is the chance that I’ll get the same server. She was that bad.

Went for brunch and had the country fried steak special. Delicious! Breading was flavorful and the steak was nice and tender. Potatoes were very good too with a nice crispy outside. Haven’t been to Smith for brunch before but I can’t recommend it enough. Will definitely be coming back here again!

What a good find! Rustic atmosphere, friendly service, and food was amazing! Great selection of craft beer on tap(a must for the area) and while sitting at bar saw a wide range of delicious drinks being made by bartenders. They seemed to take a lot of pride in their work behind the bar. We noticed the whole staff was friendly to customers and to each other… some joking around with each other made for an enjoyable evening(I saw noting wrong with the suspenders and hat :-)). I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner and/or drinks. I was a bit concerned at first glance of menu prices, but after eating the chicken pot pie it was worth it! My girlfriend had the cheese burger and it was perfectly cooked and delicious too! Definitely check it out!

Smith was really solid. Good coffee, great chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, while the wait staff was kind, they were very inattentive. We had to flag servers down on multiple occasions to get coffee refills, were never checked on once even though our food took 45 mins, and we’re not given extra napkins, something you’d think would be offered when you’re eating finger food like toast and bacon. The food was pretty good, but I’m not sure how soon I’ll be back.

Chicken and waffles. Need I say more? I’ve been on a weird chicken and waffles hunt in Seattle for the last 3 or 4 years… ever since visiting Portland(long story). Anyhow, the point is, Smith has the most freakin’ amazing chicken and waffles, ever. Hands down better than Skillet’s, Five Spot, and various other unworthy C&W offerings around the city. Go there. Get the chicken and waffles. That is all.

This is one hell of a rustic, gastro, hipster, pub, kinda cool place baby! I love coming here for the great food nonchalant attitude towards being politically correct. The menu is small(I like that) but well thought out and really tasty. Today was a great brunch day… I love brunch! I enjoyed the French toast brioche, eggs, house made sausage, smashed potatoes, whole wheat bread, smoked brisket sandwich, fries. All wonderful… the French toast brioche was delightful, grilled perfectly. All meal segments will knock your socks off, just simple well executed food that makes you smile and your tummy happy. I love a place that is true to itself. Take the pretentious out of the dining experience and you will find a restaurant named Smith, rock on!

I wanted to love this place. The Pros: The vibe is great and I love all the taxidermy and wood details. They had quite a few different options for brunch in terms of lighter fare to heavier – which is nice for large groups(they have room for large groups!) of people that have differing tastes. Also the pomegranate mimosas were delicious! The In-Between: The food was A-OK. It was pretty good, but nothing that left me dreaming for more or waiting until the next time I could return. The Cons: The wait time for food was pretttttty looooong. Someone who joined our group after us and ordered later received her food well before ours, and our plates arrived as everyone else in our group were either on their last bites or already boxed up their leftovers. It sounds like HH is pretty great, though, so I’ll probably give that a shot.

If the taxidermy isn’t enough for you to want to go into Smith, take my word that the brunch here is worth a try, I’ve just visited Smith this morning and I’m definitely excited about going again(for brunch or to try their tasty dinner.) The wait is a little nuts though. For a party of four for a Sunday brunch, we waited about 20 – 30 minutes. The customer service was pretty good. We had a waitress who made sure that our food was delicious and that our cups of coffee(3.25) were always filled. I ordered their signature Eggs Benedict(13.00). The Benedict was tasty and I especially liked their ham which was thinly sliced and layered. The eggs are a bit small but they were perfectly poached and fully covered in the hollandaise. I think what stood out from the dish was their side of potatoes. They must’ve fried them after baking because they had an amazing crispy outside.

Huh, I am updating my review because my visit to Smith this past weekend was a little bit of a let down. I had the pork loin which was served with a side of browned noodles and cabbage slaw(I think they had a more sophisticated name for it — there was some sort of wine reduction involved, but I’m forgetting what it’s called). The pork was cooked excellently, which falls in line with my previous visit which found me devouring a perfectly cooked steak. But, my real issue wasn’t the meat, it was the sides, which I found extremely uninspired. Our server(who, by the way, was attentive — I’ve yet to see poor service from the waitstaff here) recommended it and, while I don’t typically order pork, I went for it. Darn! I wish I’d had the steak. Luckily, my dining partner had the steak and I stole a few bites. He wasn’t too jazzed on his meal because he’d ordered it medium and it was definitely a true medium rare — even bordering on medium. He’s not one to send things back, and honestly it had taken awhile to get our food in the first place, so I was happy to take some of the steak off his hands. Darn! I will still continue to patronize Smith(mainly because I live around the corner) but think I’ll stick to their happy hour. I ADORE the Masala Mule too much not to.

I come here often but I came in yesterday for brunch with my friend and couldn’t of been more impressed! Penny was our server and instantly I liked her! Her smile was beautiful and she was the sweetest! She gave us honest opinions and was more than attentive even with a packed house. This place is perfect for fancy drinks and great food. Atmosphere is awesome and they are Constantly changing the menu and using in season veggies and fruits. Try the bloody avo Maria for brunch if You like micheladas or bloody Mary’s this is definitely a unique spin on the classic drinks!

The burgers here are always done as you ask. If you want it medium, they give it to you medium! If you are a fan of Manhattans, this is the place to go. Their salads rotate occasionally and they always have a great combination to satisfy your taste buds. Presentation is quite nice and atmosphere is great, however it is very noisy and I wouldn’t recommend as a place for a first date or an occasion that requires much listening.

Cap hill was wonderfully deserted so we popped in here during happy hour. The tom collinses were $ 5 and perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day. We had the roasted peppers & fish cakes for appetizers — the peppers were simple but perfectly cooked and lightly salted — absolutely delicious. The fish cakes(don’t remember the fish — mackerel?) smelled a bit fishy on arrival but were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — highly recommended. I ordered the special — fried chicken(have to order it when it’s an option, it’s out of my control) and it was pretty greasy — pass on this one. My companion enjoyed the Cuban sandwich and the fries were also tasty. Waitstaff was attentive and all food came out hot, fresh, and perfectly timed — could not have asked for more. All in all, we had a fun, relaxing, and delicious time. I will be back.

Given the over-the-top classically Seattle hipster décor that slaps you in the face the moment you walk in, Smith should’ve been just another Seattle restaurant cliché with mediocre food. But surprisingly, the food, drink and service were rather good! I have to start with how fabulous the drink was. No surprise, there was an extensive craft cocktail list. But the cocktail that topped the list on the menu with big bold letters, the Masala Mule, caught my eye. This is no typo; the Masala Mule is a play on the classic and oh-so-trendy(but damn delicious) Moscow Mule with Chai infused vodka. It’s subtle yet still a nice twist on an old standby. It was an excellent way to start off the meal! We then ordered the happy hour house-made charcuterie. To our surprise, the«charcuterie» was a small little Mason Jar(I am not kidding about the overly hipster vibe) of smoked salmon rillette, which was their charcuterie special, a few slices of bread, a small handful of cornichons and pickled vegetables. In true Seattle small plate fashion, it lived up to its expectations. Luckily, our server who was very friendly and welcoming brought out an extra plate of bread without us even asking and the smoked salmon rillette was quite delicious. For an entrée, my boyfriend and I ordered the steak frites were were dynamite. I had a small obsession with the fries since they were prepared alla Dick’s Drive-in: brown, salty, but slightly soggy in the best way possible. There was a lovely side arugula salad dressed in a fragrant citrus-y dressing that balanced out all the rich flavors. The steak was topped with a savory blue cheese butter, was extremely tender and cooked just to my liking at a perfect medium rare; a rarity, if you will, at most restaurants, in my opinion!

You know I’m really torn between a 3 and 4 star rating here. I generally really like the atmosphere of this bar/restaurant — kind of an upscale hunting lodge feel(typical new Capitol Hill vibe — take something divey and make it hipster). And the food is solid — the Smith burger is my favorite here. But the service always leaves me disappointed. Each time I’ve been here the servers generally have an «ugh what an inconvenience» type attitude even when we’re not asking for anything special and/or they’re not very busy. I’d be happy to rate this as 4 stars if the service would step it up a notch.

Just when I thought I could get a handle on my meal plan for the week, The Smith-Temptation kicked in. This trip is particularly special to me, because I didn’t go with my usual bacon cheeseburger and branched out for the first time ever at Smith. I went with something even more unhealthy … the fried chicken and waffles. Before they arrived, I went after the mimosa pitcher. It’s brunch day… GBOGH. First thing… their orange juice is NO joke. Light pulp, fresh, and no skimping on the bubbles. Then came the fried chicken and waffles. I was so proud that I only used a quarter of my butter-cream scoop, and an eighth of my syrup… because this is one HEAVY, satisfying meal. The waffles are slightly undercooked for the doughy consistency which I am a huge fan of. The service was efficient however they have been friendlier.
