I love this place! The food is terrific and owners are warm and friendly. I’ve tried new things on every visit and never been disappointed. Must haves are the spicy Thai green beans and homemade dumplings — which are not on the menu and the best I’ve ever had. Enjoy!

I have eaten here once and would never Do it again. I don’t give bad reviews often. But unless you’re drunk don’t eat here.

In love with this place! Friendly staff, open late, right near my place, and delicious food. I’ve been here twice and have ordered the beef chow mein both times. I swear they put magic in there. It’s a perfect blend of veggies, meat, and noodles. I’ve been to lots of Chinese restaurants that skimp on one of those ingredients but Chungee’s has found a perfect balance. I’ve also had beer there and the potstickers, which I’m pretty sure had chicken in them. Also delicious. It’s a great place to go if you want to escape the craziness of Broadway, which is just down the hill. Especially nice during warmer weather.

This place is kind of small… but… they still accommodated our big group! Service was nice. It got really chilly, so they even went out of their way to bring the heater out. Had some drinks here and they had good service, really nice to us. And pretty fast to bring out our food.

Originally, this was just going to be a quick drink spot. But we liked the vibe here and dude behind the bar(who was also our server) was so friendly we decided to just stay here and try some quick Chinese food. So the food isn’t blow you out of the water good, but it reminds me of SUPER satisfying food that you would expect to get from a take away spot or a small place just like this. It feels like a little house with the bar right there as you walk in and a very limited dining area(and more seating outside, if it’s warm) The General make’s a damn good chicken. This brought back many memories of having goopy General Tso when I lived in North Philly. I would have liked just a little more spice, cooked with some chilis would have really hit the spot! Our app was also excellent, and the tofu dish was pretty spectacular. I would love to come back here as it is chill and unassuming. People here seem to be at least semi-regular. Actually forget all that. Don’t come here ;)

Enjoyable, casual, little restaurant in Cap Hill. A couple friends live in the neighborhood, so we all went here for dinner a couple weeks ago. Our server kept us entertained with a bit of her friendly snark throughout the night. The upper level seating section feels tucked away, which was nice… though the ceiling is pretty low and you have to duck a bit and maneuver your way around some tight spacing when that area is full. Either way, my friends and I enjoyed a variety of dishes, along with some special ginger whiskey that they infuse in-house. The food itself is pretty simple, but I’d visit again.

I love this place. It is a fun, little joint. Nothing fancy, but it serves simple, yet good food. Friendly staff too.

Total gem. The real key here is the space– totally unconventional but love it.

I have eaten in a few times and the food was 4⁄5 he first time and 3⁄5 the second. This time I decided to order take out. The portion was only half the size of eating in AND the general tsaos taste like chicken friend in doughnut batter with vinegar. After 30 dollars with a generous 3 dollar tip for handing me the food I will not be back. The portions are to small for me. Thank you

Sat outdoors on a balmy September evening. Inside looked pretty inviting as well. Service good. Two beers, dinner for 3, + dumplings, about $ 65 with tip. Didn’t get a ton of flavor from anything except the beer and the plum sauce. Everything seemed fresh and Just Prepared.

Very good food. The flavors were different and vibrant. It had nice varied levels of spices and can’t get enough of the tofu curry. Have ordered it more than 4 times now. The only downside is that since it seems to be a family business, the people serving is lesser than expected. Still the décor and color makes it a nice experience.

Uuuuhgggghghgggg why why WHY have I not stopped in here before? This is the place to go when you’re serious about getting fast, quality, CHEAP Americanized Chinese(but seriously, really tasty) food straight to your dome-piece. Awesome neighborhood dive-bar, with CHINESEFOOD.

I’ve given this place three tries now before casting a final verdict. I’ve been consistently disappointed with the quality of food and service, and I don’t think I’ll be back. I know what it’s like to run a small business, but I think they may be slightly understaffed for how crowded it can get in that small space. The servers are polite, but are expediting service in a way that’s often forgetful or sloppy. The food: The rice tastes like the stuff we’d get served at the cafeteria in elementary school. It has a processed taste to it. I’ve never had anything like it when dining out. I got the General’s chicken, one of their«house specialties». They chicken was fried well, but the sauce tasted incredibly salty and tart. There was a vinegar-like aftertaste that made the dish hard to palate after only two bites. I’d like to know how much of the sauces & garnishes are made in house– the sodium content is generous, and the oil that they use to fry with, has an unpleasantly heavy taste that comes through the dish. Maybe I’m just critical, but for being such a well attended little spot, I think it lacks attentiveness to detail and follow-through.

Pretty bummed out by this place. We were looking forward to going here for a couple years and sadly, the food had no flavor and the egg rolls were pretty salty. I’m sad to have paid $ 35 bucks for food I won’t eat. On the plus side,(and why it gets two stars) is because the service was awesome.

Bad service, bland food. We ordered this for delivery through Order Ahead. We selected items from the menu and when our food arrived, there was no hot & sour soup but it was on the menu. It was replaced with white rice. We called and the woman we spoke to was rude and said they don’t have hot and sour soup and they notified us… well, they did no such thing. No phone call, no email, just white rice as a replacement. All of the food was pretty bland and did not look good either. Chicken fried rice… edible but nothing special, kung pao chicken… same. Will not return.

Amazing food and amazing staff. I highly recommend eating at the restaurant rather than ordering to go. One of the main reasons why I keep coming back is the environment, it’s so cozy and dim and small, the bartender and owner are sure to make you laugh, and the beer list doesn’t disappoint. I’ve never had anything I didn’t like here, but the dumplings, bbq pork, chow mein or moo shoo always need to be included in the mix. Living only a few blocks away, I’m so glad I finally found a chinese restaurant good enough to make me not want to drive to ID

I really thought I’d reviewed Chungee’s the first time I was here, but apparently not. I’ve been going here off and on for years! The same bartender was there as the first time I went. I had the sichuan tofu/veggie stir fry, general tso’s chicken, potstickers, and green onion pancake at my last visit here. The chicken was so huge I had to cut it up, there was no reasonable way to eat it with chopsticks. The tofu was spicy, soft, and had a really tasty vegetable in it, maybe mustard greens? Along with celery and onions. The potstickers were good, but I really loved the sauce that came with it — clearly homemade. And the green onion pancake was a little thicker than I like typically, but had good flavor. I’ll definitely be back!

I love the staff and the atmosphere. The food is good but not amazing. I’d give the food an 8 outta 10. We ordered(for pick up) the General Tso, Pot Stickers, and Mongolian Beef. We greatly enjoyed the potstickers, and the dipping liquid was amazing. Perhaps the food would have been better if we ate at the Restaraunt.

WTF Chungee. I ordered your Chicken Chow Phun from my local Postmate, and what arrived looked like a massive pile of doo doo. The take out container was oozing what I can only assume were buckets of soy sauce and/or oyster sauce. When I opened the container, and attempted to eat the dish(hey, looks aren’t everything), it tasted worse than it looked. I dumped the contents out into a large glass bowl, and discovered a massive pile of gelatinous noodles that were«glued» to each other in a sticky clump. Unlike the photo in this Unilocal profile, which is what encouraged me to order the Chow Phun in the first place, all I got were a few meager stalks of Chinese broccoli. No other vegetables. And the whole mess was drenched in overly-salty sauce so salty that it burned my taste buds. I took a few bites of this salty glue and decided I couldn’t eat something that had been clearly sitting in a big nasty vat all day, and then drenched in sauce to cover up how BLAND and badly prepared it was. Since my dog is such a chow hound — if it’s people food, she’ll eat it – I offered it to her, instead. Unilocalers, I kid you not: she sniffed, took one bite, spit the food out and walked away. Literally so disgusting that a dog wouldn’t touch it. Chungee: what you’ve done to Chinese food? It’s a crime. PS – if you’re desperate for Asian cuisine, and can’t make it to the ID, at least walk a couple of blocks to 14th and Pine and you’ll find Manao’s fresh and tasty Thai food.

I love the location and atmosphere of this place, as I live 2 blocks away. Although the Chinese food is Americanized, they serve good portions and the staff was friendly and sweet. Pricy for Chinese food but I guess that’s how it is when you get Chinese food anywhere outside of Chinatown.

Just do yourself a favor and go here. The owners are hysterical and friendly and make the visit extra special every time. I’m veggie, but my boyfriend isn’t, and we both find something to try here every time. I’ve never had a bad meal, and the casual atmosphere makes it a great place to go any time of the week. It’s great to sit outside on the patio in warmer months or in the enclosed patio during the rainy season. Recommend having enough time for a nap afterwards. :)

I was very underwhelmed with their Sesame Chicken, despite all the great reviews about it on Unilocal. The ‘breading’ fell off the chicken entirely because it was so soggy and drenched, and the sauce flavor was sweet and sour(not honey). When I asked if I was accidentally given the wrong order I was told«no, that’s just how it comes». So be prepared for sweet and sour sesame chicken if you order this. As it was my first venture into Chungee’s, I likely wouldn’t go back.

I did not eat food here today(I have a long time ago, but I don’t remember much), just beer and fellowship. We sat on the semi-outside deck off to the side. It was like a covered lanai I guess. Sunshine on our faces and cold beer. What more could you ask for in a neighborhood bar. The bartender was friendly and cool.(Is he the owner?). Anyway, I used to live a few blocks away from Chungee’s a couple of years ago, but for some reason never stopped by much. Sadly. Now that I live on the eastside I drop in. Ha! Cool place to hang out.

I went here with the BF and our good friend, the first time for all of us. It’s a tiny place with a tiny outdoor patio with a tiny bar and tiny seating area if you want to eat. That said, everything else was great. The bartender served as our waiter, and he was easy going and enjoyed his job. We shared salt & pepper squid. My friend got a tofu veggie stir fry. The BF got kung pao chicken. I ordered the black bean chicken. The veggies were fresh and the food was cooked well. The rice was just right. No greasy Chinese food here. Parking is on the street only and there’s not much of it. I’ll be back for more. This was a nice little find. Food: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars Service: 4 stars Parking: 2 stars
