Renew Physical Therapy

I received ongoing treatment for a very frustrating shoulder injury that previously showed little improvement with PT. Joe gave me a series of dynamic exercises that greatly helped to stabilize my shoulder and increase my strength and mobility. He was willing to try many different techniques until we got a good result. I also received treatment for an irking knee injury, and learned what I need to do to keep my knees in good condition for running. The staff is knowledgable, genuine, and humorous, and although my injuries were a pain, coming to Renew was a pleasure.

I was highly recommended by my primary care doctor for some neck pain. Called and made appointment, gave all my insurance information; was told I was all set and I’d hear from them soon about copays. That was Friday afternoon, called me Monday to say they had my insurance information wrong, could I give it again. Didn’t get back to them until Tuesday because I was at work, was told I would hear back from them about copays. My appointment was Wednesday and I still hadn’t heard by noon and called. Was told information that seemed totally off base so I cancelled the appointment. I have decent insurance and we met the deductible awhile back and I was being told I’d have a big copay and had to meet a deductible; that’s what she was told by insurance company. I called them myself and I have a co-​insurance that wouldn’t be to high. I called back to this office, made another appointment, gave my insurance information AGAIN and was told I’d hear back by Friday. It’s Monday and zero word. I can’t deal with that, if the office staff can’t get it together, that means in a few months I’m going to get some big ass bill and have to fight them over it. I wanted to go, heard good things about there treatment, but this is ridiculous.

Erik is spectacular! I have found it a challenge to find a qualified, knowledgeable, and effective PT in general. But even more especially close to home. He is all of the above, with a kind and warm energy that puts you at comfort during these difficult and pained times when your body is out of balance and needing guidance. I also run a massage and acupuncture clinic in Beacon Hill, and will literally only refer clients to him who need help with strengthening and realigning the body through PT. I have worked with many PTs, and Erik is one of the best.

I called to book an appointment with Erik per a recommendation from another provider, and assumed I was scheduled to see him. When I arrived, I was surprised to learn I was scheduled to be seen by another professional. Although I was satisfied with the care I received (not blown away, satisfied), my low rating is mostly related to the facilities and quality of the support staff. The facilities didn’t strike me as super clean (stains on carpet, peeling tape, etc.) and the front desk was of questionable competence. I just got a bill more than 3 months after receiving services. I now go to a place in West Seattle which is much nicer and has a top notch front desk staff. My billing now is super efficient (my Insurance company was billed today for services performed yesterday!). Again, review is mostly based on facilities and support staff.

Erik got me back on my feet and skiing in no time. He taught me exercises I could do at home on my own time and is quite effective and informative in the visits. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Great job Renew !

Definitely my favorite place for physical therapy! I have been treated by Erik on several occasions for back/​hip problems and have made speedy progress especially after his manipulation of the problem area. He gives good instruction about performing the exercises effectively. The clinic is conveniently located and has good parking.

I saw Erik for shoulder and neck pain for a few months. He was attentive and helpful. He gave me exercises to do at home and always followed up to make sure i was doing them correctly.
He is easy to talk to and open to the patient’s suggestions; he doesn’t take offense easily which I really appreciated.
I am often annoyed by commercial radio at medical and dental offices but not at Renew. They had oldies playing and no commercials.
I love the location because I can walk there but the few times I drove I had no trouble finding parking.
Lydia at reception is friendly, fun and helpful, too.
I will definitely return if I need more help (but hope I don’t)!

I was referred to Erik at Renew PT through an orthopedic specialist. I was glad to see they were a preferred provider for my insurance company. I had been diagnosed with a herniated disc in my back and had a lot of pain when I first came in. The clinic was clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. Erik did an excellent job in every aspect of treatment: assessing the problem, documenting it, doing manual therapy, and assigning physical therapy exercises that corresponded to my needs. He treated not only the injury itself, but the weaknesses and imbalances that contributed to its cause. Erik is also very good at explaining things and using time in the clinic efficiently. I had a couple sessions with the other therapists at Renew and they both did a good job as well. I am no longer in any pain and have begun to return to my regular exercise activities. I strongly recommend Renew PT.

I’ve had severe back problems for about 8 years now, but I am doing so much better as a result of getting physical therapy with Erik. I feel like I have better knowledge of my body, how to use it in ways that prevent re-​injury, and most importantly, he helped me learn how I can live in this body with all its little issues and still feel healthy and strong. I live with far less daily pain than I did before I started and I can honestly say that the quality of my life is better as a result. I really can’t recommend him highly enough.

My wife and I are both treated at Renew for car accident injuries. We are both experiencing relief from painful neck, back, and hip problems as a result of our treatments. Erik set me up with a plan that gradually introduced things for me to do on my own to help with my problems. He was willing to explain the physiology behind the treatments when I asked. He also came up with some new and creative techniques to work on injured areas. My wife sees both Erik and Karen. She speaks highly about both of them. I will say that physical therapy is not an instant cure. I still have pain and sometimes after treatment I would feel worse for a few days. However, I have improved greatly and they are focused on helping you make progress. As Erik said on the first day– if things aren’t improving we need to change the plan. Massage therapy and some other pain related services are also available through their office, which is convenient and good to know that the folks working with you are confident in each other and will talk to each other about your treatment. Parking is a bit limited and tricky at times in the lot, but there is also free street parking.

I went to see Erik at Renew Physical Therapy because my back was a mess. I had come to a point of having pain with every step I took and it was affecting my quality of life, as well as making me unpleasant to be around. I have a physically demanding job and doing it had become difficult, and I was becoming concerned that I was going to jeopardize my ability to work and end up living with chronic pain.
Erik identified quickly what might be going on and was aggressive about treatment. He pushed me to work hard and to push myself, and has gone above and beyond, telling me to call or drop by if I need to make my exercises more challenging. Additionally, being someone who is not in the greatest shape, finding a non-​judgmental practitioner to partner with is essential for my own motivation and self care and I’ve consistently felt comfortable working with him. I really appreciate this.
After seeing him for about a month, I’m feeling BETTER. I’ve been struggling with back pain for five years and now I want to jump for joy, although I’ll limit myself to bending over without a ton of pain and not taking tylenol every day. Jumping can come later. Thanks Erik, and my family thanks you too because I’m less grumpy to be around.

Erick Norwood PT did a great job working with me after my spine surgery. He took the time to assess the situation and individualize my program, and adjust it as I progressed.. I also needed some «coaching’ to keep up my program and Erick was very willing to do this. I have had physical therapy for my problem several times, and find the «here are the exercises and go do em and you probably don’t need to see me again» ineffective, so it was great to get the opposite from Erick. It is also great to have the service in Columbia City and near buslines and the light rail as well, as I could not drive while recovering. Just to be clear I have no business association with Renew and received no «freebies» for this!
