I was in Columbia City to catch a movie at the Ark Lodge and noticed the Spice Room. Wish I hadn’t. The jasmine tea was served in a nice clear glass tea pot and was very good. Looking up! Wrong. I ordered Thai basil fried rice with shrimp and got what looked like turkey. OK, a mistake, we all make them but the rice was so oily I just paid up and left. $ 15 for something that was inedible…

Very good Panung curry and phad Thai, but the drawback is the high price. Not a terrific value, if that’s important to you.

overpriced wonderfully decored thai restaurant located on the main street of columbia city. Customer service was better than average with attentive accommodating staff I really enjoyed the atmosphere! And, would come back just to sit in its décor I enjoy the simple lines, wood, drapery. It feels like it fits the cuisine culture Food and drinks are average and priced in my opinion higher when compared to similar restaurants. Perhaps the location needs to keep up with the«going rate»

Good food, poor service. It’s almost as if they are equally opiset of each other. So I give it a 3 out of six star rating.

They are truly wonderful, but make sure you tell them spice level I’d they don’t ask. Sometimes the gentleman doesn’t ask and then it’s really bland. It’s out of 4 stars

Whoa, when did Columbia City become so cool! I hardly ever find myself in this part of town, but ended up coming to Spice Room for a big family dinner after visiting folks in nearby Mount Baker. The restaurant has stylish, swanky interiors with modern décor and dim lighting – I felt like I was at a lounge closer to home on Capitol Hill! Being a large group of 7, we decided to eat family style. The calamari appetizer was a huge hit, but the satay tasted more like a kebab than anything else(cue disappointment). The fried garlic chicken, drunken noodles, papaya salad, and crab fried rice were huge hits with everyone. I also ordered a fantastic cocktail that combined Malibu, Thai tea, and 5-spice powder – spicy, creamy, and delicious! Spice Room is a bit on the pricier side for Thai food in the city, but the portions are pretty sizable. I would love to return the next time I’m in south Seattle.

It’s an ok place, but the prices too high for the food. For example usually Curries come with either beef, chicken or shrimp. Choosing one of them should not cost you extra $$. It’s like paying extra for patty when you buy a hamburger. I can bitch about this place since I actually lived in Thailand and kinda can tell between rip off vs a good place.

Beware of the sanitation at this place! Don’t let the nice decorations in the restaurant fool you. We got a crockroach in our glass of water and it took over 15 minutes in an empty restaurant to flag our server down so we can notify her. All her reaction was just«Ops» and took the glass back. That’s right, just and Ops with no emotion on her face. No apologies. I started to hear staff talking about what they saw in the glass in the back area, then I started to hear them LAUGHED about it. All the server did was bring back a new glass full of water that probably came the very same pitcher that the crockroach came from, and whispered«sorry» as quiet as possible to make sure the table near by didn’t hear it. She then walked away like nothing happen!?!

I only came to The Spice Room because I was attending a meeting nearby and was craving some Pad See Ew to go. I was immediately welcomed by a hostess and she quickly took my order. The food came out in a timely manner and I hurried back to the meeting so I can chow down. The noodles were ok but on the softer side. I prefer mine a little firmer. The fixings(beef, veggies, etc) were cooked fine as well. What I found disappointing was how bland the dish was. If I was at the restaurant, I could add chili flakes and some soy sauce to jazz it up but I didn’t have any of that with me. Spice Room isn’t a place I’ll go out of my way for. If I am in the area again, I may come back and order something else on the menu.

Great food, ok service, good value. We were there during happy hour($ 4 beers, $ 6 dishes) and ordered great food and inexpensive beers. Tofu red curry with brown rice($ 6& $ 1); thick cut calamari and tempure fried tofu and veggies. It’s a good thing the food was good because we were first checked on once it was all consumed.

I really wanted to like this place. The ambience and décor were nice, right in Columbia was perfect, and the food is actually pretty good. BUTTHESERVICEISAWFUL. Do not come here. I’ve been here three times thinking each time would be better. I’ve come during their dinner and when it was slow at lunch. Every single time orders have been forgotten or messed up. Just to order our drinks takes over half an hour. And good luck if you want to flag the server to get your checked. Save yourself the trouble and stay away.

So… the food here is really good which makes it hard to write this. But after going about every 2 weeks for a year, I gotta come clean. The service really sucks. I’m not sure what their problem is, every other restaurant seems to have it down. I really like having a ‘go to’ Thai place near where I live, which is why my wife and I frequented this place. Good food and drinks, to be sure. If you don’t care if you have to wait forever, and don’t really care whether you get what you ordered, then I’m sure you’ll love it. As I said, reliably good Thai food. I’m reading through the other reviews, and many of them say the same thing. The only thing I can imagine is that these guys are literally the only Thai restaurant in Columbia City and maybe they don’t feel like they need to work on the service at all. Anyway, great food guys but I’m going to stop coming in cuz your service is terrible.

We decided to come here being that it was the closest Thai restaurant around that didn’t only take cash. Upon arriving, I was really excited to eat here because of how pretty it is. It’s beautiful in here and the seating is very unique. However, I cannot speak highly for the food. For an appetizer, we ordered the Thai crab wontons, which we get every time we go for Thai food. When delivered, we were given rock hard wontons that were too hard to even chew. Usually they’re harder on the ends, so I break it off and eat the softer parts of the wrap and the cream cheese area. Unfortunately with these, even the cream cheese area was too hard to even bite into and very flavorless. It was the worst I’ve ever had. Must have been cooked too long or else cooked and left out. Either way, these were horrible. Next came out my drink, which was amazing. I forget the exact name, but it was the Mango drink from the Happy Hour menu. It was wonderful! I didn’t taste the alcohol in it, but it was good anyway. Maybe they just gave me a smoothie? :) For dinner, we shared chicken pad Thai and Tom Yung Goong. The Pad Thai came out looking a bit questionable because of the coloring and how thin the noodles were, but it wasn’t bad. A little heavy on the black pepper taste, but it was still good. As for the soup, you could tell the broth was made separately and then they added all the vegetables and shrimp before bringing it out to me. Everything about the soup was a bit on the weak side and lacked the normal flavoring. This location is convenient compared to driving out to Southcenter for Mali Thai, but I’ll stick to my usual and just make the drive out there. Unfortunately I need to be impressed by more than just my drink to come back.

Quantity over quality. The crispy garlic chicken was over cooked and stone like. It was impenetrable. Might want to make sure all your teeth are still there after each bite. Scary stuff. Even my hardcore chicken karaage friend barely touched it. Make the trip to Buddha ruksa in west seattle for the best crispy garlic chicken! The noodle dishes are the only things worth ordering here.(Drunken noodle, pad see ew, etc) Service was eh. We were literally the only table there. We were never checked on except for one water refill. Probably won’t be returning.

Literally my go to place for Thai Food! One of my favorites beside Thai Recipe. I will start off by saying, the first time I ever had Thai food, was at this restaurant. From the looks on the outside, it seems small, narrow, maybe a little over-crowded? Surprisingly it’s the complete opposite. The ambience of this place is perfect. The seating, the décor, the music. it had me in awe for a few minutes. I have brought several of my friends here, and every time I have had a great experience(even with to-go food)! Probably the only cons I have to say about this place is the wait. You will be greeted and seated immediately, but waiting to order, and waiting for your food takes ages! And waiting to pay also takes forever lol. BUT if you get your food to-go it will be ready in like ten minutes. I honestly love this place and the workers are so friendly and helpful. The portion for Phad Thai is huge! I always have to take a box home with me. I think the prices are reasonable for how much food is given. I almost forgot to mention… The strawberry lemonade here is fantastic!

I’ve been walking by this place for a year wondering whether it could possibly feed my fried rice cravings… we finally stopped in last Thursday and as it turns out, this place is A-OK! Fried rice was good, not greasy. Crab rangoons were also good, not greasy. Nothing we had was out of this world great, but this place will do the trick if we’re on foot and hungry for Thai. Service is meh, but we live less than a 5 minute walk from there so we’ll just do take out in the future. Best thing: Thai Iced Tea!
