One of my go-to steakhouses. I’ve been here a few times, the service and food has always blown me away. I’m a big fan of rib eyes, and Red Cow provides a perfectly cooked, flavorful steak. I tried coulotte once, stick with the rib eye! Their fries are crispy and well executed served with a delicious, house-made aoili. The steak sauces are all delicious, but my favorite is the red wine reduction, hands down. The fry portions seemed to have gone down between the first and 3rd time, which is a shame and my only complaint. The service is friendly, prompt and enthusiastic. I definitely recommend getting a reservation as the seating is limited!

If you’re in the mood for steaks and french fries — sorry, Frites, and you’re in Seattle, Red Cow is the place to be! Red Cow is a delightful, small French restaurant that primarily focuses on steaks. For a while in Seattle, I’ve looked for an intermediate steak place that would be somewhere I could get a steak at least as good as I can grill it myself, but not as expensive as eating at Daniel’s Broiler. Red Cow fits the bill! The wife and I both had the NY Strip with frites(of course!) and each had a glass or two of their house red wine. The steaks were cooked to perfection — not quite as good as the best I’ve ever grilled, but somewhat better than most of my attempts! Our waiter was superb, and even though we were eating in an ostensibly French restaurant, there wasn’t a hint of snootiness. The restaurant itself is quite small and my primary impression was of its cleanliness — spotless and charming. As a super extra bonus, there’s a Molly Moon’s across the street so you can grab some ice cream for dessert. This is my new go to place for steak!

I had higher expectations, Food was ok, some high notes and some lower notes. Would probably come back for another meal. The beef tartare was fantastic

Ambience. A Service. A+ Food. A Price. A Great clean cool steel concrete modern atmosphere
Great table service changing out cutlery and plates. Server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations. Food out standing. Great complex flavors and ingredients. I liked the bone marrow(takes 25 mins. To prepare). And my friend likes the Lamb croquettes. Nice and crispy. Had 8 small plates happy hour and off main menu. And 4 glasses wine. $ 50 + person. I’m a fan.

Authentic french. The food is crafted with balanced and layered flavors, where adding condiments is not necessary and would disturb the flavors of the dish.

It’s a smaller environment, but they have friendly staff. Once inside the restaurant, the tables are pretty close together. This would be my only complaint. The steak here was delicious. I tried the coulotte and the rib eye. The fries are a gently serving, and they offer many different types of sauces. The steak is tender, and well seasoned. I would eat here everyday. Great quality steak and perfectly tender. SOGOOD.

Although this was my first time here, I’m already in love with this place. The interior was super cute, it was rustic but elegant. I normally don’t eat red meat, but my girls decided we needed to go here for Valentine’s Day. We ordered the bone marrow(my first time ever trying it) and it was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. It was very flavorful and not too heavy. I had the filet for myself and it the metal basically melted in my mouth. Since I don’t normally eat red meat, I asked them to cook my steak medium well to well done. Normally the meat is dry when I ask for well done, but this was not the case. My well done filet was still moist and soft! I was super impressed and basically devoured the whole thing. If I’m ever craving a steak, this is definitely the place I would go to!

We sat at the bar for happy hour, and had a fabulous experience! The bartender, Colin, gave us great service, and was super friendly. The burger is to die for… It might be the best burger I have ever had! The meat melted like butter, and the homemade crispy bun contrasted perfectly. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and unique! The frites were nothing special. They were tasty, but were the only less than amazing part of the meal. For $ 35, including 2 large glasses of wine, I felt more than satisfied! I will definitely be back!!!

Came here on Valentine’s weekend with my friend, my sister, and her boyfriend. It had such good reviews and the food looked amazing! I was a little worried as some of the more recent reviews were not as laudatory as the older ones. However, I needn’t had worried. The only thing that frustrated us was the long wait between appetizer and steak. Other than that, the food and service were both spot on. I arrived early for our reservation but was shown to a table right away. Since I felt awkward about taking up a table for who-knew-how-long(everyone else was running late), I ordered a drink and my waiter kindly recommended a delicious grapefruit bubbly cocktail. I read my book and enjoyed my drink until everyone else arrived. No one made me feel awkward or feel weird about sitting at table for four by myself. Only the odd couple on a date next to me did, and that’s what the book was for. We ordered the bone marrow(takes 20 minutes!) and fresh oysters for appetizers. Both were fantastic! The bone marrow was a little hard to dig out with the supplied spoons so we poked it out with our knives and spread it on the most amazing bread. Omg, we wanted to ask for more bread but didn’t want to be charged for it. So. Good! The oysters were cold and perfect with lemon and horseradish. My sister and I got the hanger steak with frites. My friend got the filet mignon. My sister’s bf got the ribeye(which he thought was weird that it came boneless). It felt like we waited a really long time for the food and when it came out, it wasn’t piping hot. It may have been sitting for a bit resting or cooling or something in the back. The hanger steaks were pre-sliced for us; my sister’s steak was rarer than she wanted but she didn’t send it back because she was worried about waiting another 20 minutes for her meal. Everyone else’s beef was perfect in temp and seasoning. The fries, though, oh man. Those frites are amazing, especially with the garlic aioli! I think the fries totally outshone the meat that night! A great little spot! Aboslutely recommend and would love to go back to check out more of their menu!

We went there for Valentines night. We had a reservation but they were running behind so we sat in the bar. We went for the set menu which was $ 80p.p. Overall I would say the food was average. The soup was scolding and burnt our tounges. The marrow bones were bland and the bread impossible to break apart. The beet and apple salad was nice and we both enjoyed it but it was the steak and dessert dishes were just OK and finished off an underwhelming experience. There was nothing unique about the flavor pallet. Overall we spent almost $ 300 and wouldn’t recommend.

We came here for Happy Hour to try something new. I had the beef tartare and it was delicious! I’m not a fan of raw egg on my beef and I was glad it wasn’t present. The meat was seasoned perfectly and the toast was on point. Hubby had the brouchettes steak frites and the meat was perfect medium rare, the fries were seasoned with rosemary and awesome. I had the cocktail of the day, tequila negroni, was fabulous. I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of their dishes.

The first two times we came here, this place BLEW our minds. It was crazy delicious, generous portions, and excellent service. The service has stayed consistent, yay! But unfortunately, on our latest visit, we noticed a big decline in food quality and quantity. On our latest visit, we ordered the bone marrow — yum — but this time, it was lacking in the actual amount provided. Many of the pieces were nearly empty and it was an overall disappointment. Then for our entrees, we ordered the wagyu(as we had previously) and asked for no salt on the fries and no seasoning on the steak. It’s wagyu, it doesn’t need seasoning, it’s meant to be enjoyed in it’s purity. :) Unfortunately, they didn’t get our request and the food came out over-seasoned and with about ¼ of the amount of fries they used to give you. Guys, fries are cheap, don’t you be cheap too and give people so much less! Especially at these price points. For $ 60, I expect much better quality and quantity. For $ 60, I can go to El Gaucho or the Met Grill and get a damn delicious steak. For $ 20, I can go to Le Pichet and get a much better steak and frites. Will we be going back? Eh, probably not. There are plenty of french bistros or steakhouses to fill our cravings. It’s really quite a disappointment because we really loved this place. Oh well.

I would give 4 stars for the first half of our experience and 3 stars for the second half of our experience. First half: happy hour– tasty Gin Gimlet, burger, frites and chicken liver mousse. Yum, yummy, yummier, and yumminess. The frites were so damn good, and the garlic aioli is amazing. We ordered extra fries just because we wanted more sauce. The chicken liver mousse was the best I’ve had. We dipped our frites in the extra mousse as we ran out of bruschetta chips. Can’t beat a burger on HH for $ 10. Second half: dinner– ordered Wagyu Ribeye, Hanger Steak, Gnocchi and Pork Cheeks. Don’t waste your $ on the Wagyu beef. It was so disappointing, and at $ 60! The Hanger at $ 26 was way better. The pork cheeks were amazing and so tender, and gnocchi was forgettable. My dish, the gnocchi, came out luke warm. The frites that came with these steaks were lukewarm. I wish we had just stopped at our first half of meal as that was way more enjoyable. Or, we would just order the hanger or pork cheeks again. Service was great for us. Michael was very tolerable. Debatable if we would go back for dinner, but if in the neighborhood would be inclined to grab more chicken liver mousse and a burger.

where did the short ribs go? they went away and never came back! it was explained to us that some of the cuts were made sous vide and my rare wouldn’t be a true rare. it would just sort of look rare. i understand the process and thought, hmm, this might be interesting. steak came and temperature was pretty close. but it was sort of missing some flavor. maybe some of the carmelization didn’t happen. i would expect the seasoning to be really embedded within, but not so much. sort of disappointed in the flavors, but not horrible. it’s been a bit since i’ve been here and i think it’s still just okay.

My GF recommended this place and said her friends were raving about it. We really wanted to love it and tried it out, but were disappointed. The food quality was mediocre, at best. We ordered ribeye steak, mussels, pork cheek, bone marrow, and beef tartare. Everything was just ok. I could get better steak elsewhere; it was not juicy or flavorful. The mussels were ok, but nothing to write home about. The beef tartare was bland, not enough flavor. The pork cheek was tender and bone marrow was alright, but honestly, it wasn’t good enough for me to come back for. Service and ambience, however, were great.

Ah the old Cremant space. Cozy and romantic vibe, but a bit loud and tight depending on how booked they are that evening. Good service and fairly good food. Had the ribeye and burger here as well as an appetizer that was forgettable. The burger was cooked perfectly but the ribeye was a bit over(medium/medwell when I asked for medrare). There was also a bit of gristle on the steak which was disappointing. I would try it out if you’re in the area, but it’s nothing to rave about.

Update: Haven’t been able to update this for a week or so but shortly after my original post, I was contacted by Jen at Ethan Stowell restaurants who left the darn nicest apology voicemail I’ve ever heard. She apologized profusely, shared that Ethan himself is actually implementing some new changes to make sure things don’t slip through the cracks(how cool is that?!!), that all of the feedback does get read, shared with staff and taken seriously. She even offered to send the bf a birthday card(don’t think he wanted to get reminded of his age again) and sent us a gc to visit another time. Completely blown away with the restaurant’s thorough follow up and sincerity after returning the call! — Really disappointed with my experience here. My boyfriend raves about this place every time we walk by so I wanted to do something special and plan a surprise for him starting with a dinner there. I included this note in my reservation AND talked to the hostess by phone the day before and they said they’d add a candle to our desert. We came on a Thursday 11⁄5 and it was decently busy but not full. I ordered the Coulotte medium rare and bf had the hangar steak medium. My Coulotte was more like well done and his was still very red(but not bloody). Sounds like they mixed up our preferences. This is okay for a franchise gig, but for a restaurant that primarily focuses on steak? A let down. Anyways, we didn’t make a big deal and ate it anyways. Creamed pea side dish was delicious. Desert arrived with no candle. My heart sank. I know, it’s just a little candle but boyfriend was going to be out of town on his actual birthday, so this really was part of a bigger surprise. Again, didn’t make a fus. Afterward, went up to the Maitre’D with the slick brown hair and he apologized, but somewhat insincerely. Also should add, bf didn’t mind but I wanted to let the Maitre’D know should any future birthdays, anniversaries, and special events end in a thud like ours. Ugh, I love all the other Ethan Stowell restaurants, pretty bummed with his experience.

What a delicious experience! Our meal began with the beef tartare. It was tender and full of flavor. Delicious. The contrast between the softness of the meat and the crispness of the crostini is delightful. Following, I had the filet mignon with green beans. The beef was tender, cooked perfectly, and wonderfully seasoned. The green beans were both tender and crisp with a delicious shallot butter over top. The boyfriend had the wagyu beef. WOW. It was like butter. So tender, so delicious. So everything. I wish I had spent the extra money and ordered that. It is hard to beat a perfectly cooked filet, but that wagyu beef is out of this world. My only thought is that the default side with the steaks is french fries(or fancily, «steak frites»). I hate that steak places do that — I think it is a tacky side to accompany a high class entry. I had to pay extra to have a comparable pairing — something that is frustrating. Overall, though, I would certainly return when there is extra spending money to be had.

With every encounter, I become even more gaga over Ethan Stowell. Red Cow just easily became my favorite one so far, and I can imagine anything surpassing the delicious meal we had last night. As of last weekend, the bf is now the fiancé and the parents wanted to do something nice for us and treated us to dinner at the place of our choosing from afar(thanks fam!). Naturally, based on my love of Ethan Stowell, I selected Red Cow. And well, being from Chicago, we have a natural affinity for red meat. We went a little over the top, which allowed us to try a fantastic array of the delightful selections at the cow that I will now salivate over while I remember just how damn delicious they all were. We started with charcuterie, specifically the foie gras, lamb terrine, and chicken liver mousse, which also came with yummy pickled veg. Of course we had to get cocktails to start off our celebration right — I went with the Currant Affair, he went with the Black Manhattan. This was a fabulous preview, the charcuterie was luscious, my drink was bubbly, what more could a girl want? The answer: more meat. For dinner, I had the filet, medium rare, which was a little closer to medium, but damn was it good! The horseradish cream was just the right accompaniment. The bf(or should call him simply the f?), had the strip with herb butter and ate the whole damn thing, so it must’ve been at least as good as mine. What he was most impressed with the fries, which were just the right amount of crispy and paired with garlic aioli, which I’m a sucker for. We also had the haricot verts, which we ate like fries and thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered a bottle of wine based solely on the name — Spellbinder — which went well with everything. Because we had already gone so over the top, we had to order dessert too. I had the profiteroles, which were basically little, wondrously delicious ice cream sandwiches. The bf had something creamy and full of hazelnuts, which I couldn’t try because I’m cursed with an allergy. Jerk. All in all, we had a lovely time and ate some of the best food we’ll probably eat for a long, long time. Thanks family! Sorry we went [a little bit] overboard! It was totally worth it.

Eating at an Ethan Stowell restaurant is like wearing my favorite pair of sweatpants; it’s comforting and dependable. I’m a huge meat and potatoes kinda girl so I was excited to finally try Red Cow. We had reservations but bar seating was still available and they were having HH so they offered us a table in the back. We started off with the charcuterie which was served with slices of toasted baguette, mustard and pickled veggies. Simple and tasty. For dinner, we ordered the ribeye,(medium well) and frites, braised short rib, and since it was HH, an extra side of fries(for $ 4). Our food was great. My ribeye had a wonderful crust on the outside and remained tender on the inside(perfect amount of pink for me); I asked for the red wine sauce and it kept the meat really juicy. Maybe a little too lightly seasoned for me so it wasn’t my favorite ribeye but it was definitely enjoyable. The short rib was fork tender and was a plateful of comfort. My favorite part of the entire meal were the fries. They were cut to a perfect size that allowed for a great crunchy exterior to fluffy interior ratio. I’d say these were some of the best fries I’ve had in a really long time. As with his other restaurants, Red Cow offered really good service and a fun vibe to hang out in. The tables around us were ordering the burger and bone marrow. I must come back for those.
