Ravenna Third Place Books

I went to a book reading here this evening and thoroughly enjoyed myself as well as the coziness of this store. Hard wood floors, tons of books neatly arranged, bar downstairs below it and a café in the back– what doesn’t this place have?
The staff were all very friendly and there is a parking lot which makes driving there easier.
I was impressed by the array of books they had in general too.

I’m not sure I would enjoy living in the neighborhood half as much if they weren’t there… we go a few times a week and buy most of our books there. I love that my daughter will have this bookstore as a part of her childhood memories. Thank you Third Place!

Figures after I move from Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood to Shoreline 13 years ago, this former PCC site became an independent bookstore, Third Place Books.
Honey Bear Bakery/​Café later was replaced by Vios and has a pub downstairs, perfect for this walkable, pleasant neighborhood.
Tiny compared to its other sister site further up north in Lake Forest Park, but does the job if you go out of your way to not shop the chains or go the Amazon route.

A wonderful bookstore and you can get coffee and feel all cozy inside.

This place has a wonderful atmosphere with an amazing book selection! I could definitely spend hours here, and the booksellers I interacted with were super friendly and laid back. The impulse/​gift items are really fun too. I will definitely be returning to both locations! :D

This is a perfect neighborhood resource: fabulous bookstore run by people who know their stuff, family-​friendly breakfast/​lunch place, and perfect neighborhood bar downstairs. The dinner food is tasty, and enjoyed the best when you eat in the downstairs bar. The food is a little pricey, but it is good.

The booksellers aren’t always the friendliest, but I more often come here for the coffee, snacks, and ambience, and that’s where TPB shines. Great and fun baristas/​waiters who remember their customers, and Vios food is great. The coffee counter always has a great new cookie to try too :) The Internet café is a great place to study. Plus, a great little pub downstairs for later. Highly recommend this place!

I’m pretty sure that whatever book I pull off the shelves here is going to be good. They just don’t have enough space to stock anything subpar. That’s what I tell myself, at least, and it’s worked thus far!
I don’t visit the café but I DO visit the pub downstairs, and usually end up popping up after a beer or two to grab some books to take with me (great business model!).
I have found many lovely titles here, and find their book recommendations thoughtful and reliable.
The used and new books intermingle on the shelves, so it’s worth checking the price on each copy to make sure you’re not missing a good deal. I don’t think I’ve run into a used book here not in good shape. I personally LOVE this — it feels like a treasure hunt!

Been here twice and I found exactly what I was looking for both times… Great selection of travel books and language phrase books for international travelers. Their parking lot is often jammed, but finding parking on the street hasn’t been a problem. The adjoining restaurant seems VERY popular although I’ve not tried it yet. Only downer — they don’t accept American Express.

Quite possibly one of my favorite places in all of Seattle. It’s a bookstore/​café/​pub. My three favorite things all in one place. I loved grabbing a cup of coffee while reading a book, then exploring their endless sections which contained great reviews. All of this was followed by food and drinks downstairs!

Great little café in the back of a great little bookstore! Fireplace, nice amount of seating without being clumped together.
The Rooibos tea I got was excellent. Super yummy coconut macaroon that was big enough to share with my boyfriend.
Only one kind of chai which made me sad because it happened to be a spicy chai which I don’t enjoy, but I’m sure it’s good or people who do! A few more options would have been nice.

This place is very cute and has a warm atmosphere. It’s not a big bookstore but I can find books which interest me. If you sell and buy books on the same day, you get 10% discount from the purchase. So I tend to buy some new books again… I also like the café adjacent to the bookstore. It’s the same wooden style and I like it.

Enjoyed browsing the shelves at this spacious used and new book store. Left wanting four books but trying to be satisfied with only buying two. Remember to bring your own bag, as in most of Seattle, and check out the beautiful card and notebooks selection too.

Great, surprisingly large bookstore. Nice atmosphere. New and used books, interspersed, so sometimes you can find a used version of what you want, which is always nice. Fun kids’ section, good staff picks, great selection of books. I’ll be coming here over and over again!

I will be honest — I have not had exceptional experience with the staff at this place, but the environment is just lovely. I come here often to study. There is the perfect amount of noise and quiet. I had lunch here once — I will say that the food is pretty hit or miss for me so far. They have an excellent variety of books. This is one of those places I could hang around for hours just browsing the shelves. I love it here!

This bookstore is probably the only bookstore I know that keeps their new and used titles in one area. As in, you’ll find a book and you have to pull it out to see if the book is selling for new or used. Usually bookstores have them separated. I’m not sure if I like this sorting method because I usually want the used books since they’re cheaper and I couldn’t really tell with some of the books without having to pull them out.
The new prices are the cover prices. The used prices generally tend to be half of the cover price or even 40% (so not quite half).
The café on the side makes the bookstore quite loud because there is a lot of people and chatter. I don’t see myself going here to study.
The bookstore is also a bit off the beaten path. It is in a very residential area (with some abandoned/​graffiti-​covered buildings nearby).
It was fun browsing the different titles, but I am not sure I would come back to this bookstore again. Also, there was a guy that was soliciting something right outside the bookstore (not sure if begging or if trying to get you to sign a petition — either way, I didn’t expect that all the way out in the middle of nowhere).

My rating comes with an admission:
I love books, and I love book stores. I mean I LOVE them. When idiots irritate me to no end, I will often go to a book store just to feel like I am standing around educated people. That does it. I don’t have to do anything other than stand in a bookstore… gives me an immediate calm.
I think a staff member would have to set books, as well as my face, on fire while screaming the most vile things in order for me to give a bookstore anything less than 4 stars. Luckily, I have never been in a situation in which any bookstore staff has ever tried this. Yeap, all my bookstore experiences have been pretty fine by me.
That being said, I really like this place. It’s a nice mix of used and new material, and it has a fabulous coffee shop connected to it. All this without the mega corporate bookstore feel. The whole scene is just so, what’s the word, oh… quaint.

I admit that I love ordering books from Amazon. Brick and mortar bookstores hold less appeal these days. However…
— Third Place is cute.
— They have tables of books up front showcasing the ones that are currently all the rage.
— They’ve got employee recommendations.
— They’ve got used books.
— They buy your used books.
— There are cards for all your last minute birthday/​special occasion needs.
— There is a cute gift section for your last minute birthday/​special occasion needs.
— They’ve got magazines and journals for your last minute entertainment/​therapy homework needs.
— They’ve got a café in back to grab a mocha or muffin or gelato and tables to sit and have lunch or just a coffee and work on your laptop.
Basically it’s a bookstore that does what you want a bookstore to do; tell you what’s good to read, maybe give you a used option, take some of your finished books back, let you hang out and work while watching the neighborhood walk by, and make you a coffee while you’re doing it.

Coolest bookstore in Seattle. I’m not a bookstore connoisseur but this is better than the feel of Eliot Bay and HPB. I do love HPB though. It’s a really chill, woodsy, natural feeling bookstore. I could have spent hours. I got a neat limited-​ish-​edition of 1Q84 and a keyring that is a sheep LED. It bleats and everything. It is a little amazing.

I’m not bookworm so this review is less on the bookstore aspect and more on the coffee shop. They serve Illy and have a gorgeous Illy espesso machine. Their desserts served are delicious and freshly made.
I appreciate the quaintness of this store and think it is the perfect place to relax, drink coffee, have a little dessert and unplug for the everyday stresses of life.
