This is food cooked from the heart, arrive early so you can get a Jamaican beef patty.

I am giving them 2 stars because everything about the place is great excep for the owners. They really aren’t very nice and they make it hard to be a customer. I like to support neighborhood businesses but they always act like they are doing their customers a favor by being in business. I won’t be going back.

Great curated shop with amazing food and super friendly service — never mind the naysayers whose reviews complain about the prices. The people working here are catering to local artisanal food which is and should cost a little more. In addition to the groceries, they have a great selection of wine, cured meats and cheese. Coming from New York and Chicago I was happy to find this shop. The staff here are friendly and obviously know what they’re doing.

Went back here after moving from the neighborhood and was very pleased to see that the only thing that changed was more new wine for me to explore. The owners’ encyclopedic knowledge of their products, helpful attitude, and welcoming space was thankfully unchanged. I wish I lived closer, but will always stop by when I need a new bottle for meals with good friends.

Love Picnic! Just had one of the«standard» turkey sandwiches, and it was simply wonderful. While that was being made I shopped for some vino and chocolate. Everything here is hand picked for being the best of whatever it is. The owners have impeccable taste and are friendly and helpful without hovering. If you adore food and wine, then you’ll enjoy any amount of time you spend in this store.

I’ve found Picnic overpriced for the quality. Their sandwiches are simply OK, their atmosphere is trendy and somewhat off-putting. The couple of times that I’ve been in, I’ve found the staff ranges from cold to rude and their knowledge of cheese and wine seemed lacking for what I’d be paying. In a city with many wonderful choices for wine and charcuterie, I can’t see a reason to recommend Picnic. As a sandwich shop, the counter at the nearby Ken’s grocery store offers comparable quality for a better price.

Wonderful day on the patio, sipping rose and enjoying a beautifully prepared charcuterie and cheese platter. The owner was delightful and a good conversationalist, who obviously knew her industry. We’ll be back soon.

I dropped in during the art walk and had a nice little lunch here– curry soup that tasted like they had just made it to order, and a salad(tuna, kale? I cant remember the details) that was just as fresh and crisp. They have a good selection of wine and other preserves. Yes it’s on the pricey side but they really do have quality ingredients.

I came across this place randomly: it’s the only store in Seattle that sells Rancho Gordo dried beans(the same ones Thomas Keller uses). BUT, once I got there, I was totally impressed by all this small shop has to offer. A sampling: Mast Brothers Chocolate, Ballard Bee Company honey, and Deluxe Foods jam. Yum. Not to mention a lovely wine selection and a chacuterie case that looked delicious. Are these items cheap? No. But come on guys, you get what you pay for. Picnic sells high-quality, small batch stuff, including local products. If you want cheap, go to Safeway. If you want a really special California olive oil, come here. I didn’t get a chance to try the sandwiches, but next time I totally will. Seems like it would be a great place to grab a quick bite. Unlike some other Unilocalers, I thought the woman running the place was extremely helpful and friendly. Parking is easy. I will be back!

It took a while for us to get our sandwiches, but there’s plenty to browse while you’re waiting. This place has an amazing wine selection and a lot of fun kitchen gifts, but I’ve had better lunch.

This place is a rare treasure: a small wine shop and high end deli run by Jenny and Anson, a couple dedicated to providing the best quality house made and artisan made foods and an excellent, curated selection of wine. The sandwiches and salads are exceptional. The style is casual with a long table and counter stools looking out the window. A great place to put together the ingredients for a fancy picnic or for specialty food gifts. My only complaint is the prices to the wines are hidden on the back of the bottles but Jenny is always willing to direct me to the best under $ 15 wines.

Red Mills Burgers was way too busy despite being past the normal lunch hour, so Picnic did the trick to satisfy a post-Zoo hunger. Cute place with lots of rich looking snacks. Limited selection of prepared foods, but enough choices to make for a good lunch. Corned Beef Sandwich: Apparently one of the only meats prepared in house, so it was a high recommend by the server. Having lived in NYC for many years, I was a tad biased. The meat wasn’t served warm(boo…) and it was sliced thin like ham(boo again…). However, I did appreciate the toasted pretzel roll which may have even been nicer than rye since it let the spices in the meat shine. Not what I was expecting, but pleasant none the less.

Unfriendly, slow, and snooty service. We ordered sandwiches to go and although the place was all but empty and there were two people working, the guy leisurely finished doing dishes(!) before tending to our order, while his coworker stood behind the counter doing … nothing. When we complained we were told to browse the wine selection(we were there with our baby on a weekend at noon). Sandwiches were good enough, but certainly not worth the 15 min. wait.

This place is no picnic. I was envisioning a happy place, like a «picnic» with sunny meadows, tasty food, and pleasant people. That was not to be found here. Instead, I found grumpy entitled owners who act like the customers need them. I don’t mind paying up for good food and service, but this is ridiculous– overpriced pantry items, small sandwiches and an attitude I don’t need. The sandwich was fine and I’m sure the others are too, but I can find the charcuterie, cheese, bread, and wine at other shops with nice people who appreciate my business. And, why does it take so long? 20 minutes to make a sandwich when only 2 other customers were in the store? How long do they think the average person has for lunch?

A neighborhood favorite for both food and wine selection. Great sandwiches, soups and sides that keep pace with the best seasonal ingredients and continue to offer variety on top of the favorites. Wines include a great selection of low priced wines that rival or best the pricier stuff you’ll find anywhere else. The owners do a great job of tasting a broad range of wines and offering their favorites from often unheard of wineries. Thursday night tastings with wine makers are a weekly thing and always have great free snacks as well. Think the tastings are still only $ 8, which is a great price for the amount of good wine you’ll enjoy.

This was a nice change of pace for lunch. It looks like a wine store when you walk in with racks of wine. There’s a big table and a few cramped bar stools against the windows to eat at. The quality of the food was very good but overpriced for what they are serving. I had a chicken salad — very tasty in a light vinaigrette dressing with some fancy greens. My husband had a sandwhich that was nice but not worth $ 9. The portions were fine for lunch but a little small relative to the price. I was intrigued by the tasting on thursday nights and will come back and try that.

Great charcuterie. They carry charcuterie from Salumi, as well as from Fra’mani in Berkeley. They also have La Quercia Prosciutto! which I’ve wanted to try ever since reading about it in Bön Appetit and NY Times. You can get some easy homemade deli food here. Simple sandwiches with the tasty meats run btwn 7 – 10 bucks. They also make their own pork rillette and pâté. They carry a small(in the sense that it takes up very little physical space) but interesting wine selection. The small wine area is a bit misleading, because there is quite a lot of wines packed into this small space. And they have an beautiful array of locally produced vinegars, sauces, and rubs. This is definitely a cute place to stop by if you are in the area. Apparently they also do catering.

Let’s try to smile. I over heard one of the unsmiling staff say that it was a very slow Saturday. I stopped in because through the windows, this café looked very bright and inviting. Do not let the the atmosphere fool you. I tried the potatoe salad with thyme-bland. The cherry tomat salad was good. I ordered the lasagna. 20 minutes later, it came out barely warm. Served with a few bread rounds. Would have been better with bed of salad-less carb. and better presentation. 12.00 lasagna-I have made homemade lasagna sooo much better than the 2X3 piece presented to me here at Picnic.

Picnic is a new food and wine bar in the bottom of the newly constructed Fini Condos on Greenwood near stumbling goat and oliver twist. they offer up a nice selection of wines and organic food. they also have a nice indoor, and outdoor seating area to enjoy some treats. I hope this business does well and sticks around for a while, not to many places like it on the ridge.
