CLOSED I love Peet’s and I loved that this shop was near my house. I loved getting a latte here while using the laundromat or before running errands. The staff were friendly and there was plenty of seating. I was always surprised that this corner hosted 3(previously 4) coffee shops, and now there are but 2. Sadly, this should not have been the one to go. :(

Sadly, the Queen Anne store is now closed. That store wasn’t just about the location, it was about the people that worked there and the stellar job they did on a daily basis. Fortunately, we still have the Interbay Peet’s by Whole Foods.

This Peet’s is not bad, but it not amazing — their coffee is what it is– several offerings that you will be slightly amused with, but not a boutique local-like roaster taste either. They do have a great location to hang out in the sun or under the roof. The staff is well trained and they are friendly. For a larger chain, it is a step up from what’s across the street.

Excellent location, very good tasting coffee, very bad(see unable to answer questions, slow to make your order, and simply a little lacking in tact/social graces — though not rude) staff and milquetoast environment lead me to say that this is clearly a place you go in, grab a cup, and take it with you.

Every time I go in this store it smells like bleach. Or something else weird. Maybe it’s a psychological thing by now, but everything about Ladro next door – atmosphere, drinks, prices – is better. I only come here when Ladro is too crowded.

Peet’s is OK, but their prices are a bit high for my taste. At an intersection where there are 5 coffee places(counting the sbux inside safeway) within 500 feet of each other, Peet’s has to offer something outstanding, but I just don’t see it. Lower the prices and I’d be a regular. I like the outdoor seating and the barista staff, but to be honest I’ll pretty much go here only when the line at Ladro is intolerable.

Coffee. When I go to a coffee shop, it’s because I want coffee. And maybe, rarely, a pastry. I do not want to buy a card. Or an album. Or a game. I want dark, rich, tasty, hot coffee. Peet’s is where I go when I’m on the top of Queen Anne. Oh, sure, there are plenty of other options — everyone is battling for my coffee soul up here: Ladro, Tulley’s, Starbucks(Charles Schultz, how dare you sell the Sonics and then give away coffee for one day while training your sales force to be human beings again, and then cry foul when you realize how truly cantankerous your evil-doingness has made us), and Diablo: good coffee, and less of a devil than Starbucks. When I’m near Peet’s, my coffee tasting buds do not wander. I want coffee. And this is where I want it.

So I broke up with Starbucks recently(yes, really. I wrote a nice dear John letter and sent it to corporate). Just before making the final decision to cut ties with them I started exploring other places to get my jolt. I quite enjoyed some of the places, but they weren’t really my style or on my route anywhere. Since this is just across the street from the old Starbucks I went to I decided to give it a try. I LOVETHISSTORE! Now granted, I don’t go to any other Peet’s, so I am being specific to THIS location, but I gather that the others are similar. For starters, let’s get down to the business of the place — the coffee. Super tasty. I’ve never felt let down by my latte there. Never a burnt shot, never a bitter taste. Always just delicious. You will wait a few seconds longer here, but that’s because they are actually making a drink for YOU, and not just making another drink with some stale old milk that’s been sitting out on the counter for who knows how long. Just a great, great cup of coffee if you ask me. Now, on to atmosphere. Everyone at this location is wonderful. So nice, warm, friendly, chatty. For all the years I went to the Starbucks across the street I never once felt like they cared who was there paying, or that you were there at all really. Not so at my Peet’s. They ask your name for your drink, and thus learn your name pretty quickly. It was great the other day when I walked it and got greeted a la Cheers with a «Hi Carrie!» and a smile. I know more in a few weeks of going there about the baristas than I ever did in years of visits to that other place. There is just this overwhelming feeling that I am welcome there, and not just another customer. It feels so homey and low-key. I never feel rushed. In fact, they apologized the other day that it took a while for my drink. It took a while because there were other customers ahead of me and they were working hard. Today, I brought a latte to my co-worker. She’d never been to Peet’s, and didn’t know that’s what I was bringing. She took one sip, and said ‘wow…that’s good!’ That’s really all you need to know about the place… it’s just good. All the way around. Oh, and it’s cheaper!

Welcome to upper Queen Anne’s own corporate coffee chain district. Three of the four corner locations at the intersection of Boston and Queen Anne are coffee shops. Your options are: Starbuck’s, Tully’s, and Pete’s and in my opinion Pete’s is probably going to be your best bet. Friendly service, plenty of seating and decent coffee… what more could you want? Honestly though, I pick between Pete’s, Starbuck’s and Tully’s based on which has the best seating opened.

I went to Peets coffee the day that I became engaged. They were going through their opening and had a bunch of polaroid cameras sitting around so customers could take pictures. My fiancé and I took a picture of us and wrote Dec 8thJUSTENGAGED, or something cheesy/cute like that. We put it up and I felt good like this is my local shop. The coffee here is great! I ordered a mocha and they gave it to us on the house because of our happy news, which to me is great customer service, and there was a heart on top of the coffee in foam. I have been here since and sadly the polaroids were taken away by corporate peets, but the coffee is still yummy and I will still be coming back to this place.
