I did what every food service place dreads, I ordered something that wasn’t on the menu. However, the owner was more than willing to accommodate my request and did so with a smile and very friendly chitchat. Iced green tea with raspberry syrup. Yum! I will be back!

Came on a warm June day. It was a sauna inside. I ordered a macchiato. It was very bitter and watery, similar to Starbucks at an airport kiosk. The barista was very friendly and nice.

Cute place, super close to home, friendly folks working and lots of quick goodies to choose from to go along with hot cocoa or tea since I’m the only person in Seattle who doesn’t drink coffee. Despite the ridiculous amount of coffee shops in this square mile, Monkey Grind is one that should definitely be visited by the coffee and pastry appreciator.

I love this place. The atmosphere is chill, cozy and inviting. Kendra(the owner) is the sweetest and always makes you feel welcome. She gets to know her regulars– and there are a lot of us– and makes it look easy! Plus, with delicious coffee and a light food menu, you can’t go wrong! Highly recommended.

Awesome neighborhood coffee shop! Very cozy with super friendly owner and customers. I go in there every morning(and sometimes in the afternoon) and always leave in a good mood. One of the best parts of our little area in greenwood. Coffee is great and so are the lunch sandwiches.

I live a few blocks from this place and love it! They are so friendly, serve Lighthouse Coffee, love dogs, and have almond milk(which seals it for me). Great little neighborhood spot!

Awesome neighborhood coffee shop. Good coffee, good environment. Dog friendly, and a really cool owner(Kendra). It’s not huge, so it never gets loud which makes it a great option for studying/working. Their breakfast sandwiches are the best I’ve had, I highly recommend checking this place out just for one of those.

A welcome dog-friendly respite can be found at the Monkey, and their AC is cool. We got some relatively good drinks(I tried the Mexican Mocha, but it wasn’t for me) and chilled for a while on our laptops. The place is very comfy and the baristas are cool — The woman who helped us was maad chill, and she’s the reason they’re getting four stars instead of three. Better drinks would have earned them an easy five star. We’ll return to try again!

I think the coffee here tastes great and it was very convenient for when I lived at the apartments right above the coffee store. I gave it 3 start because I always felt awkward walking into this store. I didn’t fit the typical crowd so I felt uncomfortable. I also got the vibe that other customers were being helped before me because they were more«regular» and I just came in every now and then. I have not gone here since I lived near the store.

Love this place! I typically walk here after work with my dogs. When you walk in, you get this«underground» feel of the place. I personally really like it and it feels very Seattle like. I always get an caffè americano with hazelnut. I know it’s not too adventurous but americanos are really good here. They don’t taste too watered down and they add just enough hazelnut syrup. I like the seating arrangement within this place. Near the food and where they serve all the drinks is a sofa area. There are tables along with windows where most of the customers sit to enjoy their coffee while surfing on the web, doing homework, real work, etc. They have a couple tables outside and is usually where I like to sit when it’s really sunny out. Overall, awesome local coffee shop in Greenwood.

Happened to be in Greenwood for a play and across this cozy café. Inside its very clean and inviting. Staff is super friendly and sweet. I tried out a house made berry and superpower green powder smoothie at the staffs recommendation based on my likes. It was really excellent! I really appreciate that inviting and hospitable attitude in cafes. Its a lost art on the Eastside, so it was a pleasant surprise when coming here on a whim. Thanks, staff, for a nice experience and a great drink.

I’ve walked by this place so many times and finally decided to try it! The owner is very welcoming and warm. I got a regular latte, which could of been stronger, but was still pretty good! I could see myself studying there in the future, it has a very homey feel to it. Definitely check out Monkey Grind if you are in the area!

I stop by Monkey Grind about 3 — 5 times a week, I usually get a London Fog since I’m not a coffee fan. I’ve had out of town guests stop by there for coffee and everyone has said it’s the best latte/cappuccino/drip coffee they have ever had. The atmosphere is friendly, the establishment is clean, you’ll occasionally see a customer with a puppy in there — truly a neighborhood coffee house! I highly recommend a sandwich there for lunch and their breakfast sandwiches are the best I’ve had.

Kendra is the friendliest person you will ever buy coffee from. None of the fake nice BS, she’s just extremely personable and acts like herself. If you live or work anywhere near here, it’s your loss if you go anywhere else. All the coffee drinks, good selection of pastries, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt and other snacks. Relatively cheap as well. Doesn’t get particularly crowded during the week, so it’s a great place to hang out or to do work. Service takes a little longer than elsewhere because you can actually have a conversation with Kendra and she takes her time serving you. I guess if you’re an unfriendly, boring jerk that’ll probably keep you away. Smoothies are great also. Just go here.

Good service, nice place, good cappuccino. They have a good selection of both healthy and unhealthy breakfast items. It’s a bit expansive though. It’s a nice place to go to study or get some work done.

Kendra is good people. And her service & personable nature combined with that of her staff make this a **still** valued community destination. Check it out.

More like 3.5 stars! I came here after I ran a loop around Mercer Island. I was rushing to my bike maintenance class at 1PM. Therefore, I parked by my friend’s house and walked over here. This shop is right next to where the bike maintenance class(Real Rehab). I was super hungry. Then, I walked in. Parking here is actually not a big issue. Besides, most people probably won’t drive in the area. Bus, walk, or even bike would be more convenient. However, street parking is all in the residential streets. It’s a nice shop, very bright and clean. However, there’s one lady who was helping. I felt it was a bit short of staff. Don’t get me wrong! She was very nice and friendly. But, I was really hungry! I ordered a piece of hearty bread, a cheese and egg sandwich and a cup of hot chocolate. But, there’s a backlog for orders. I waited for my food to be sent in my mouth for approximately 20 mins or so. I really enjoy every bite of everything. The lady actually asked me if she got everything I needed even she was kind of swamped!

Kendal is why we return almost weekly to play backgammon. My friend visits Kendal even more often. High energy, fun, an artist, hard-worker, and knows her regulars! Each sandwich is handmade after you place your order-delicious. I’m going to order the highly recommended London Fog, this week.

I had my car detailed recently so I found myself in the Greenwood neighbourhood with time to kill… a LOT of time, in fact. Armed with my laptop, I was going to walk to a nearby coffeehouse. The guys at the shop suggested this place instead AND gave me a ride up the hill. When I arrived, there were two baristas on duty but one left shortly into my visit. People stopped in and left with their drinks. For a couple of hours, I had the place to myself as I leisurely enjoyed my lunch and caught up on emails. I didn’t find my drink bitter, in fact it was rather enjoyable. The music was a good volume and I chatted as the barista cleaned the dining area and behind the counter. Both baristas were super friendly and allowed me to keep my tab open while I waited there instead of running through two charges when one left.
