The place is pretty good! Usually my friends and I head here after going out and need to eat something quick and cheap! Also a good place to chill at!

The guy was a complete asshole. Avoid this place at all costs. Management are rude and inconsiderate. The food is terrible and the place is disgusting.

It was decent pizza for what it was. The people working there were extremely friendly. There is a little seating area outside, which was nice. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but since it was on my way to where I was going, it was convenient and I was satisfied with my slice of pizza.

No wonder why the pizza is so cheap, it’s garbage! It tasted funky and yucky. The worst pizza ever!

Ok, we just finished a tour and and were a bit hungry. Just as we started discussing what to have we saw the sign for Marios. We decided to give it a try as they had a decent deal posted for two slices and a soda for about $ 6. The pizza was a good thin crust style pizza. Between us we had the sausage, mushroom, Hawaiian, and cheese varieties. All of them were good and filled us up. The next time we are in town we’ll surely stop by here again if we are in the area.

Unfortunately, I would never recommend this place to anyone. I work by this place so I’ve always wanted to check it out. I was hungry and was in a hurry so I decided it would be the perfect time to grab a few slices or so of pizza. For one slice, it is $ 3.25. I didn’t mind as long as it was exquisite… and unfortunately it was not. When I think of pizza now, I think of Big Mario’s NY pizza made with love and tender toppings that are heated for super fast but super crisp. However, I walked in and noticed how«fast food» it was. The pizzas looked dry, and honestly, looked almost frozen and processed like grade school pizza(those were actually quite tasty though) and a boxed pizza put together. NOTHING really looked appealing because they looked dry and so commercial perfect that it wasn’t appealing. Desperate for something to eat, I grab a slize of the pepperoni and sausage. The nice lady heats it up and packs it to go for me. I get back to work(a 2 minute walk)…and it’s cold. Are you kidding me?! Half of my pizza is warm and some random spots are still cold. I’m a little bummed out about that. The pizza itself? tastes just like how it looks! A definite mix between a boxed frozen pizza and a not-so-fresh pizza time pizza. There is nothing spectacular about the dough, topppings, or sauce. Everything is just«mehhhh.» So sad since I love pizza and I was hoping this place was worth returning to. I think I’d prefer like Dominos for«fast food» pizza. Sorry!

+ Pizza tasted better than I was expecting for a hole-in the-wall — Inside décor is dark and unprofessional signs are all over the place. If you want pizza, it’s ok for a quick slice. They also have ice cream, if you’re looking for something to eat after/instead of the pizza.

First time I do makes feelings so good when Mario’s taste gets inside me. Now me go many times and love it to enter me to make me feel so good. You meet me there.

Just a little hole in the wall with a few tables nestled outside, you know what you’re getting into before you walk in. Inexpensive yet tasty pizza ready in about 30 seconds if indeed they pop it back in the oven to get things melty again. Even for what feels like fast food pizza, I thought it was good — I had the garlic artichoke pizza but there were at least 10 different pizzas ready by the slice. The guy at the counter was pleasant enough, no frills for sure though. Only drawback for me were the passers-by that really needed a dollar while I was trying to eat. But it’s off of 1st in Seattle, again you must know it’s coming anyway.

If you want to get sick, proceed. I was served a room warm temperature piece of pizza that had clearly been sitting all evening and politely asked for a hot piece. The server got upset and offered to warm up the slice that was cold. I asked for a fresh piece. Long story short, the guy pulled out pepper spray after threatening me to leave, all for asking for a fresh slice or my money back. I left before getting sprayed, but wow, don’t let this place get you sick. He was such a douche,

First off, if you’re looking for an amazing gourmet snazzy pizza experience, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a quick cheap slice and /or are inebriated this is the place for you. I usually stop by and grab a slice of Hawaiian whenever I’m downtown. I’ve never had any complaints about service. The pizza is admittedly not the most attractive you’ll see. Most of the time what I get has been sitting out and gets reheated in the oven. I’m okay with all that because it’s cheap and tasty. The only thing I don’t like is all the crazy vagrants that come up and beg when you sit outside, but that’s just a Pioneer Square thing you have to live with. I love Mario’s but I’m not gonna rate them 5 stars because that’s just not what kind of place it is. I’m giving them a solid three because it’s right in the middle.

I usually don’t write negative reviews, but the service in this place is horrible. There used to be an elderly Asian woman who worked there who was at least a little pleasant. I came in only once before and ordered pizza, and she was okay. Today I went in and the man that was serving pizza was really, really rude. He gave me attitude right as I entered, no ‘hello’ no ‘how are you’. Furthermore, the pizza looked really bad today, like it had been sitting out since yesterday, so I just asked for bottled water, which he followed up with a snide remark. I love to support local places, but this place deserves new management, or to be boarded up all together and allow someone else to run a business that cares for its customers.

The pizza is pretty atrocious. Unfortunately the venue doesn’t help the cause with the exception of the outdoor seating on a warm, sunny day. Most of their pizza is pre-made and when you order they heat in their oven prior to serving. Most pizza places do this so I wasn’t to discouraged at this point but when I ordered my slices they were slightly cold. The crust was cardboard-like and sauce was nothing to write home about. Now for the venue, you can either eat outside if the weather is working in your favor, but otherwise there is ample seating in the back. Ample seating is normally a good thing, but unfortunately this area is in desperate need of a renovation. The carpet and walls smell like cigarette smoke from the 1970’s which did not help the cause for the pizza. Looks like something out of the Gordon Ramsay show«Kitchen Nightmares.» All in all, don’t waste your time here. They probably get a lot of business due to their location, but if you can avoid it I would.

My friend and I had just come from the late-night Underground Seattle tour next door, and we were looking for a quick bite to eat in a neighborhood where that seemed easier said than done at 10:30pm. I’ll give Mario’s credit in that the pizza was really, really good! We had the pepperoni pizza as well as the mushroom pizza, both of which were absolutely delicious. But, it’s also the shadiest place I’ve ever eaten. You can’t tell by the storefront, but the dining room(past the cashier) looks like a cross between one of those neglectful old folks’ homes you see on 60 Minutes, one of those restaurants on Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares and somewhere where mafia deals would definitely go on. If this place could replace the old, dilapidated furniture with new seating, paint over the graffiti and do something about that funky smell, I’d give this place 5 stars. Like I said, the pizza is delicious, it was an inexpensive bite to eat and the service was friendly. But, as it stands now, Mario’s is sketchy and creepy, and if I were going back I’d take my pizza to go for fear of getting shanked or knifed in the dining area. I also find it funny that there are no photos here on Unilocal of Mario’s purgatory-style dining area.

Mario’s is a difficult place for me to review. I really like the pizza. There’s nothing special about any individual component(crust, sauce, cheese, toppings), but they combine for a pizza that actually tastes pretty good. I’ve been here a few times, and I find the pizzas generally consistent and enjoyable. They also sell Dreyer’s ice cream by the scoop, and who doesn’t love that? On the other hand, this is probably the most disgusting restaurant I’ve ever eaten in while sober. The carpeting needed to be replaced ten years ago, and the furniture looks like it was purchased 3rd– or 4th-hand from the Goodwill. The further you walk into the seating area of the restaurant, the more your senses are overwhelmed by a stench that can only be described as a combination of old shoes and dirty air vents. There are also multiple instances of graffiti tagging on the inside walls of the restaurant. Let me say that again, THEREISGRAFFITITAGGEDONTHERESTAURANTWALLS. Ironically, there are posters for high-brow cultural events on some of the walls. It blows my mind that somebody from the Seattle Opera walked into this place and thought, «yep, this is where our target demographic hangs out.» So… while I’m giving this place a 3-star rating, it’s with several caveats. First, go during the day. I can’t imagine what this place is like at night. Second, try to sit outside if at all possible.

I love this place I come in all the time great indoor out door seating for any type of day. The hours are a little funny but I’ve got them down so I can call and pick up my pie or sit down. I know it’s a sin to say I don’t like New York pizza but I don’t. This pizza is great all hand made nice fluffy crust and the best toppings and I would kill for a jar of the handmade pesto they put on the artichoke pizza! I love the owner and all the staff love love love this place!

My quest for good pizza by the slice in Seattle continues. Going to Mario’s took a bit of courage given 1) it’s obviously a tourist trap being next to the underground tour 2) all the negative reviews. Now Mario’s price their pizzas by the slice differently, on the left of the display case there is «gourmet pizza» and on the right there is «traditional pizza»(i.e. pizza with one toppings” and the difference for two slices is about 50 cents. I went for a slice of Mario’s(sausage, pepperoni, meatball, peppers, onions, mushrooms and extra cheese) and a slice of Pesto Garlic(sun dried tomatoes, pesto, garlic and artichoke). This place does put the slices back in the oven to heat them up after you order; although they don’t leave them in the oven for very long. I thought the Mario’s slice was very cheesy and the Pesto Garlic was quite flavorful. The crust was very soft(like cheese sticks) and you pretty much have to hold the slices with two hands when eating them. This toppings were very sparingly put on the pizza, but in tough economy, perhaps that’s required. Despite the other negative reviews, I thought this place is better than some other pizza by the slice places in Seattle. I doubt it compares with places in NY but the slices were edible. For about 6 dollars, it’s a reasonably priced lunch.

I would give 0 stars if that was an option. I can’t believe all the other decent reviews for this place. I’ve been twice and each time equally gross. The first time the guy serving pizza went from cleaning something in the back to serving our pizza with his bare hands. Um, no? The pizza was nasty. Totally greasy and cold. I didn’t go back for a long time and then went with some family and friends for ice cream after a game. When we were«being served» and deciding which ice cream flavor we wanted(there were about 6 so it wasn’t hard), we were told to «hurry up» so he could tend to the another person in line. When my friend wanted a flavor that was running low, he was rudely told to choose another because he «didn’t have time to scrap the barrel». **After several messages from the manager I was asked to remove my comment about this place being *shut down* due to poor hygiene. I do apologize as my source was apparently not credible and I cannot confirm this. There are however several legitimate health violations that can be found on the website for this restaurant. I think people have the right to know this.

I came in expecting New York pizza, however the quality was not good, the pizza had obviously been sitting in the case too long, and the seating in the back room looked like it belonged in a bad Chinese food restaurant. I had high hopes, but came out disappointed. I won’t be going back.

These folks have good pizza. When in Pioneer Square eat here. They are dear people and have been there 25 years. The economy is being rough on them.
