Amazing. I love Liberty so much. It’s beautiful, they have coffee, drinks, sushi. What more could you ask for? Also the folk that work here are beyond friendly and it’s just a really wonderful place. I wish I could go more often

Stopped in for sushi and drinks and was not disappointed. Not too crowded, we were seated immediately at the bar. Our bartender Brandon was amazing and is highly skilled. We ordered five sushi rolls and they were delicious. I would highly recommend this spot! Can’t wait to be back

My drink was good. They certainly do cocktails well. We ended up in the back room, it’s such a wasted space. It’s large and could be a really cool area but instead it looks like a church recreation room or an afterthought. It goes beyond grungy into simply dilapidated. We weren’t there for atmosphere and the drinks didn’t disappoint. I just wish given how small the bar is that they would make the little space that is available more inviting.

I’ve hosted a number of parties in the back room here and Liberty is always on point! Great drinks and great service. Highly recommended if you want a cheap-ish option for hosting a private party. The front room can get a little hot. That’s about the only negative thing I’d say :)

Sushi, whiskey flights and a lesson on how it all got started. So cool that you can give a price range(minimum $ 15), tell a flavor profile and they’ll let you try four different pours of local and /or international brands. I like the taste of whiskey but admittedly didn’t know the difference between regions, different malts and barrels, etc but our server was excellent. Very knowlegable about the drinks they serve and I loved my pours from Ireland, Scotland, Japan and Seattle haha. I also enjoyed trying my’s friends flight as well… Amazing how each tasted and released so different. I really had no idea there was such an art and science to it all and we were congratulated more than once for our 8 bottles of whiskey. Haha. A great place to explore and discover what you may and may not like and bottles aren’t limited to just whiskey. The vibe is chill, parking is ample and crowds are not crazy like you’d find deeper in the hill. Sushi here is fresh and legit too! Tried the seattle roll, negihama and the tataki… All very good and helped to differentiate from the pours after they had muddled together after a bit. I can’t decide if its a sushi bar with or a bar with sushi but either way I will be back!

Small joint where you can see the guy make your food regardless of where you sit. Come for the sushi and drinks. Stay for the Asian MILFS! Overall: A.

The first time coming here I just flew in from NYC and I was ready for a tasty drink and sushi! I walked in around 10pm and get just that! The server was amazing and listen to what I wanted. I got a delicious drink that I wish I could remember the drink! The sushi roll was the wax on. This time around i decided to get the wax in with some delicious sauce and seared salmon! I don’t normally due raw fish but I was on brace and listen to my waitress! To drink, I got a drink in the menu but they switched it up with a little mezcal as that is my favorite! The sushi was saucy, delicious, and huge pieces but I made it happen! Overall great service, love the vibe and it’s perfect for a date night, come alone, or bring a group of friends!

Good sushi, nice atmosphere, cool location. I still can’t wrap my mind around how this place serves sushi of all foods though. I don’t get the authentic Japanese feel! It also took a long time for my friends and I to get the order to our table, even though we were the only customers there at the time. Our server let us know that it was taking longer because the chef had to slice all the fish since we came an hour into opening; however, I don’t think it should’ve taken 20 – 30 minutes to get one plate of sushi out. I recommend coming here for the drinks and to order the sushi if your tummy is really craving for it.

If you’re looking to go to a bar in cap hill without the rush and noise of the pine/pike area, THIS is the place to go to. This is a strong four-and-a-half-star review, though it doesn’t warrant the bump up to five. Went here on a Friday night with friends, and had a pleasant experience there. This place does get packed, so go a little early to score a table. Ambiance: Classic hipster-ish ambiance. Most patrons seemed like locals. The place is pretty small, so it does get extremely crowded after 11 pm. It has six sofas as you enter, so if you’re in a group, you can snag two of the opposing ones. As you go inside, there is a bar to one side, and tables on the other. Lighting is dark, so this is a good date-place. Service: As we entered, there were no servers or bartenders, but the place was reasonably full. We waited about five minutes after which the bartender came out, and asked us to sit anywhere we liked. About 10 mins after that, the server came by with waters and menus. They seemed to have just one server that night, so service was a bit slow. However, the server was super-nice and helpful. No complains after that. Food & Drinks: Their menu is an actual book. They have great cocktails of every variety. We tried three of those, all of which were excellent. The one I liked best was a whiskey cocktail called 8 ½ that was recommended by the server. They also have an extensive liquor menu from many parts of the world. We also got some sushi to try. The roll was very well made, but tasted unlike the ones we get in traditional sushi joints. I would definitely recommend you get some, but don’t expect it to be traditional. The quantity, however, was very small. Location & pricing: It’s located in a very residential neighborhood, and there are no other bars around here. Parking is easy to get. The cost is reasonable, around $ 11 – 14 for craft cocktails, and $ 8 – 10 for sushi rolls. I loved the place and experience. It is perfect if you want to avoid the hustle and drunk crowd, for a quieter night-out. Will definitely recommend!

Liberty just exudes a cool vibe, and that’s probably why it’s always packed. Seriously. I have tried and failed to get a seat here multiple times, and it was a very momentous occasion when we finally managed to snag a table for four on a Tuesday night. Hurrah! The cocktail menu is tantalizingly difficult to pick from. I think cocktails are pretty reasonably priced(most are in the $ 8 – 11 range) given that they all tend to comprise of unique ingredients while still being fairly alcoholic in their contents. I got a drink with Scottish whisky, limoncello, and milk in it. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen that combination in a cocktail before(it was delicious!). Unfortunately, our time here was cut short as one of my companions suffered an allergic reaction. The staff was appropriately concerned, and went through the list of ingredients in the cocktails to confirm that there were no problematic substances in any of them. Our guess was shellfish on the glassware, since Liberty also serves sushi. Oh well, I guess it happens. The(secret) back room is supposed to be a pretty good deal, so you now know where to go if you’re throwing a party soon!

Give me Liberty or give me freedom! Truthfully, I wouldn’t expect a sushi place to be called Liberty, per say, but my friend and I had a hankering for some Japanese eats. Though the environment is pretty hipsterish, the décor and artwork was unique. Liberty definitely had a wider variety of drinks than food items(which for me, I like to have an equal amount of both). My cocktail, The Eye of Fatima($ 9), was refreshing and tasty. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of their sushi(e.g. Sonic Boom Tuna, Seattle, The Ave, etc). Though the flavor wasn’t bad, the sushi rice texture was too gummy /sticky. I’d probably come back to Liberty for their drinks, but I’m not a 100% on the food. If I’m in the area, I might try them again to see if my experience was just a one off.

I came here with a friend on Valentine’s dinner. We didn’t plan anything extravagant so we thought, why not just grab sushi. Nonetheless, I didn’t want to spend it at an ordinary sushi belt, so I browsed through my bookmarked places on Unilocal and came to this spot. The moment you walk in, there are a few sofas for people to sit; and behind that is the bar with the usual high seated booths. We didn’t have reservations so we were asked if we are willing to sit at «the back.» We were pretty hungry so we agreed and followed our waitress. In this back room, one will find more couches, and a projector on the ceiling. I honestly love the idea of having couches to sit on while eating and socializing, because it’s just so comfortable! The menu of this place is also different; one might find it like a manual, but I love the idea of having a page for the people who worked at the bar or are waitressing. My friend ordered The Point of No Return which involves a Rosemary being lit. Since we weren’t seated at the bar, his Rosemary wasn’t lit on fire. I didn’t get to taste his drink, but I ordered The Eye of Fatima. It tasted like those mini yogurt drinks you get from the sushi belts(not the ones with the marble – the small yellow one with a red tin foil cap) – but with alcohol! Or maybe there’s just something wrong with my tastebuds: P We started of with three rolls: Jamjuree Roll, Liberty Roll, and Sonic Boom Scallop Roll. I don’t know if my friend realized the Jamjuree Roll was vegetarian, but I didn’t like it. I liked the Sonic Boom Scallop Roll because you get that soft scallop and crunchy cucumber at the same time. The Liberty Roll(which I swear is what it’s called, but currently not finding it online) was good, it was filled with crab and topped with mint and the small fish eggs. I’m not a fan of mint in my food(unless it’s used for taste) but I refuse to eat the leaves, you bet I picked out all the mint leaves off of my roll: P When we were close to finishing our drinks, we saw the waiter bringing in a super delicious looking roll to the table next to us. So we ordered that, Joe’s Hanoo Roll! This was definitely the best!!! It was just soft and mushy, but the flavor… Omg. Full of it! It took awhile for our drinks and food to get there! Overall, the food and drinks were delicious!

Took my little brother here for some drinks and sushi. The menu is a full on novel with all the liquor you could dream of. Bartenders know what’s up. Definitely can’t wait to go back to try more. Sushi was fresh, beautiful, and absolutely delicious. The Tuna sashimi was the fattest slice I have ever had! The service and ambiance were great. Cannot wait to go back, definitely recommend it to anyone who loves good sushi and am even greater alcohol.

I wanted to come here because of the reviews I’ve read and also the interesting drinks they have. Came here on a Friday night and yes I did expect it to be busy and sure it was. My friend and I were greeted by the bartender? At first he told us the wait would be about 30 minutes, so then we were like okay that’s fine. Shortly after a lady approached us which I believe she’s the actual hostess/server. She actually seated us right away, no 30 minute wait. We were like okay? Lol no complaints here. We got seated blah blah. Our server tho, I was a bit confused with her humor. She seemed a bit rude and mind you, I have a sense of humor so the way she interacted with us is as if she was a bit irritated. But whatever she got our orders in. I was disappointed with the wait on the sushi though. Whilst I know it was busy, but it was only 2 rolls of sushi and it took over 30 to 45 mins for the sushi to come out. But I brushed it off cause the drinks kept us busy and those drinks were delightful! What kills me is that the staff seemed to be scattered and different people kept coming up as if no one was actual in charge on a table so they would ask did someone already take your order? Blah blah and my friend and I was already getting annoyed cause they were so unorganized. On top of that my friend waited so long for hot mayo sauce then he went up to the bar to ask for it, and he goes, «dude, just chill and ask your server.» Like really?! That was absolutely rude and unprofessional. I was already over it. I guess I can say I won’t be coming back here and I hope it this doesn’t happen to anyone else. AND that staff gets more organized!

Love this cozy little bar! Their sushi rolls are delicious and their cocktails are on point. They have an amazing variety of liquors so you can generally get any kind of cocktail you want with the brand you like. Last night we were trying the Westland 177 Cask which had just been released which was a fun experience!

A friend of mine is going to school up here and suggested we meet up here. Great little spot! Interesting drink menu! And an even more interesting sushi menu. Very non-traditional as far as being authentic Japanese, but I don’t think that’s the goal. When I went up to the bar to pay, I was able to see the great variety of liquors they offer. We started with the Emerald City roll… which was very good! We then had Joe’s Hanoo roll which was the Wax On with seared salmon, very very good! My first drink was the Seven Leagues from Duran which was potent and refreshing. I then had a Maserati Coupe which was made with mezcal. An interesting cocktail, but I wouldn’t get it again… it was not as smooth as it looked. Overall, this is a pretty cool place to come and relax. You really sink into the couches which can be a good or bad thing, not so great for eating. But I would definitely come back when I’m in this great city again!

Stepped by after a night out at the theater, craving for some drinks and sushi and found just the right pace to be! The interior is pretty relaxed and I would say it feels a bit like being a guest in a big living room with nice people, good drinks and a hell of a good sushi. Will definitely come back to try more of their great menu. I love that you can get a bit creative and draw something into their menu-books :)

Holy Shit! Liberty fuckin rocks! This might be my new favorite bar. Yes, I admit it, I’m an alcoholic, just like everyone else in the world, but I’m not afraid to say it! I love whiskey, it’s my jam. Bourbon, ryes, scotch, whatever, I’ll drink it, just no Crown Royal!(Crown was cool back in college. Now I look back and think how much of a loser I was thinking I was the«man» drinking that garbage). Liberty has a huge variety of whiskeys ranging from American Bourbons, to scotch, to even whiskeys from India! This is definitely your go to whiskey bar, since they have a lot of rare whiskeys. I’m a huge fan of Japanese Whiskeys. Something about their nose and taste really has me hooked. I have many Japanese bottles at home, so I wanted to try some that I’ve never had. The bartender informed me that I should have a flight of Japanese whiskeys so I could try the ones that I was curious about. After a quick chat, Brandon(awesome & nice) brought out 4 bottles and gave an in depth, informative description of each. I could tell he really knew his shit. The man stood by our table for over 5 minutes explaining all of the whiskeys. He definitely chose ones that were unique and even rare. My flight of 4 came out to be $ 35, which is a good deal considering bottles ranged from $ 75 to about $ 200. Also, you can have a flight of any type of particular whiskey or liquor that interests you. I’m sure it will be a reasonable price. In addition, they serve sushi, which is weird, but surprisingly fresh and good! Happy Hour is from 4 – 7 everyday. Even though I am a selfish bastard and don’t want this place to get overhyped, I have been told, «sharing is caring.» Definitely check this place out if you are a whiskey enthusiast or appreciate good cocktails.

Really nice place but a bit expensive for my taste. I came here because it’s «dog friendly» and has good whiskey. Their selection is really awesome and they make some really nice drinks. It’s not exactly dog friendly, they can be service dogs but not just any dog. I would rate it higher if it was a bit more reasonably priced. We got 4 drinks, one happy hour roll and a couple other rolls and spent $ 78 after a 20% tip. I really suck at leaving less than 20% tips so maybe it’s my fault for it being so expensive but it was a bit pricey. A couple other odd things about this spot, there’s only one or 2 menus for the whole restaurant. Our server came and took our menu because someone else needed it while we were looking at the rolls and then came over a bit later asking what we wanted so we had to ask for the menu back. Bit odd for a classy spot.

Yes! Liberty is as good as they say! Snug as a bug in a rug. It’s small and comfortable-feeling right when you walk in(once you get past the initial extreme warmth.) The cocktail selection is impressive as is the service here. Though I’m sure the sushi is good here, I was talking to a coworker about how much we liked Liberty minus the intense warmth and we both remarked that we would both be hesitant to have sushi there. Is that weird? Maybe it’s weird. I’ll try to get over it and give it try when I’m in next. For me, the back room was where it’s at. We walked to the back and only a mirrored wall greeted me. I pushed on the mirror and VOILA: Secret room. I love ish like that. On weeknights, you can reserve for a large group. Be prepared to pay money for it, but it’s my understanding that if you keep the drinks flowing and tip like the baller you know you are, then that fee COULD get waived – no guarantees, though. You can sync your phone to their speakers to listen to your own music, and enjoy a bunch of comfortable couches and chairs – super cool. Touching back on the service, I was really amazed by our server. Charming and genuinely interested in making sure that your cup DO runneth over. As usual, parking around the area is a bug-a-boo; lucky you if you live on the Hill and can stroll over.
