This store has a bit of a reputation for rude patrons, but in my experience it’s mostly undeserved. Sure, there are players who definitely give off a ‘pro’ vibe in varying degrees of irritating, and you’ll get the occasional«I can’t believe this was passed to me!» comment, but for the most part they’re a friendly and down-to-earth group with a fair share of more casual players. The owner is very friendly and you’re sure to find a challenge here. Part of the reputation, I hear, has to do with previous ownership being much less ideal. If you had a bad first impression years back, it may be worth a second look.

First Pick Games is a great place to play Magic. I’m definitely a casual player who just likes a bit of competition sometimes, and it’s great to be able to drop in any time of the week to play. There are many regulars as well, so if you go a couple of times, you’ll start knowing people. For those who are extremely serious about Magic, have no worries. Pros and semi-pros play here as well. I always see a lot of trading, buying, and selling going on around tournament time. However, it’s not really a game store. As other reviewers have said, it caters to Magic and YuGiOh, and there are some 360s for people to play, but that’s about it.

First Pick Games is the best place to play Magic: The Gathering. The players that play here are some of the best in the area. The store isn’t really a game store as he mostly caters to Magic and YuGiOh! and doesn’t carry any traditional board games. The owner is very welcoming and always willing to help.

My fiancé and I went in here when it first opened. We live nearby and were really excited that a new gaming store was opening up close to us, and figured we would give it a shot. We walked in the front door and there were groups of people playing board games and video games. Not a single person looked up to greet us, or even acknowledge us. They continued to play their games and ignored us. We stood there for a few minutes waiting to see if anyone would even LOOK in our direction to no avail. We looked around, didn’t see many board games for sale, still not a single person said hello. I looked at him, he looked at me, and we promptly left. I will never go here again. I have never in my life walked into a game store and felt so unwelcome! It’s great to have a place to play games and all that jazz, but I really think the employees should be able to stop playing a game for a moment and work on at least saying hello to their customers… I would rather travel over to Queen Anne or Greenwood. Or heck, REDMOND if I have to for a look at their board games/card games. Save yourself the awkward trip and go elsewhere.
