I’m sad that it took us awhile to give this place a try. They have a great happy hour, and their food is top-notch! One of our favorite items is the Oxtail ramen. I remember thinking the first time I saw it on the menu.“I like Oxtail soup… and I like ramen…” so I gave it a try, and it was amazing! The perfect blending of two worlds! Rich, savory Oxtails combined with the beautiful delicacy of fine ramen! Next up on the list is the Kazusuke. Rich black cod, marinated and cooked to perfection, over a bed of fried kale leaves. OMG, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! Really! Finally, the happy hour menu is great. You can get all of the basics, including some of the specialty rolls. And, it isn’t the rip-off portions that some places do for happy hour. It really is the same portion as you would normally get, but at a HH price. As far as service goes, it has always been really good. The servers are professional, efficient, and know their product. It is always a pleasant experience to go here. I recommend you see for yourself!

Boy, talk about getting dope-slapped! I was just walking down the street in Ballard and BHAM!, there was Billy Beach Sushi. To tell the truth, I was going there to try it for the first time, but I always wanted to say dope-slapped in a review. I have been to A LOT of sushi spots, having lived and worked in Japan for almost 20 years. Also, my wife might be Japanese. Anyway, this place is worth a serious try. I got take out, so I have to go back and really test the waters(service). We really enjoyed the sushi and maki. We ordered hamachi and hirame. We also had the bincho albacore and the California roll. The fish was VERY fresh. The rice was top drawer. The people who helped me with take out were very nice. If you go at night, take care, they have no light on their sign, and it’s a bit hard to see: two doors down from the Nordic park on the west side of Leary just off Market. Try it. You’ll like it.

3 friends and I dined at Billy beach this friday. There was a bit of a wait for a table, so we just grabbed drinks down the street until the hostess texted us that our table was ready. We only waited about 45 minutes. To drink, I had the Mule’s Ransom($ 9), which is barrel-aged gin, God of Water sake, lime juice, and ginger beer. Very good– a fun twist on a mule. To start, we ordered the Tempura Plate($ 9), which was sweet potato & prawn tempura. It was good. The Omakase plate was amazing. We chose the«medium» options for $ 45 which came with 20 pieces of chef-selected sashimi. All absolutely delicious and obviously extremely fresh. Afterward, we shared several of the chef specials as well as a roll. You need to be really good friends to share soup. We are. Beach Nabe($ 16) was chef’s choice seafood, udon noodles, napa cabbage, carrots & shiitake mushrooms simmered in udon broth. Super light and delicate tasting… just great! Also on our table was the Oxtail Ramen($ 15), which was braised oxtail, beef broth, & wide noodles served w/house chili sauce. It was fatty tasting and just amazing. We added almost all of the chili sauce. Chewed the bones clean and slurred the bowl empty! We also tried a pretty interesting(and yummy) roll, the Redhead Geisha($ 15) consisting of spicy tuna, avocado & yamagobo, topped w/seared spicy crab mix, black tobiko, cayenne & spicy ponzu. Presented beautifully. Loved it. My friend also ordered a roll but it was totally tempura’d and not my thing, so I only had once piece. She loved it, though. To our pleasant surprise, our waiter brought us some hot sake on the house. How nice! It was the Ippongi Hannya’s Sword Sake infused with sweet plum and fiery chili peppers. It was a great balance of sweet and spicy, and I’d order it again. Thanks for the attentive service, classy ambiance and creative dishes, Billy Beach!

Heard great things about Billy Beach(he was the head chef for Japonessa, another great sushi joint in Seattle) and was excited to try it out! My girlfriend’s and I(all 8 of us) arrived around 7:10pm, just barely missing their happy hour which ended at 7(they do have HH in the bar from 8pm to close). The happy hour looks pretty good with a variety of rolls, nigiri and small bites at great prices! We were seated promptly upon arrival, despite the joint being fairly small. Luckily, it wasn’t too busy for a Tuesday night. I ordered the Redheaded Geisha roll(spicy tuna topped with seared crab and tobiko), salmon sashimi, and shared a spicy calamari appetizer. My meal was ONPOINT! The salmon pieces were thick and fresh; tasted like heaven in my mouth! The roll was also fantastic! There was a lot of flavor with the tuna, crab meat, and a savory drizzle of sauce that meshed well with each other with just the right amount of kick from the spicy tuna. I sampled a few other rolls, including the One Eyed Ninja(salmon topped with more salmon and spicy raw onions) which was not quite as good as the Geisha. The spicy calamari is AMAZING! Served on a bed of greens, the calamari had the right amount of bite without being too tough or chewy and I liked how it wasn’t covered in a thick tempera casing. The spicy sauce was not too spicy and was sweet and tangy. Delicious! The price was reasonable and comparable to other nice swanky sushi restaurants in Seattle. Service was great and the ambiance is fancy enough for a date night yet somewhat casual enough that my glittered Converse Chucks were A-OK! Will definitely have to check out their happy hour menu next time! Parking is a pain(only street parking) so plan accordingly.

If you are looking to eat sushi in Seattle, Billy Beach is a solid choice. I went there hungry so I ended up ordering a lot. Naturally, I chose some rolls. I usually go with a Philadelphia Roll when I eat sushi. I added a tuna avocado. I also ordered one of the specialty rolls, Ballard Crunch, which includes salmon, avocado, and tempura. All the rolls are good but not Earth shattering. On the other hand, the poke is incredible. It was the first time I have ever tried the dish. It is a sashimi salad dish. It is also a Hawaiian, appetizer dish. The fish is fresh and full of flavor. The other ingredients(e.g. cucumbers) complemented the fish brilliantly. I could not stop eating it. If I return to Billy Beach, I would definitely order two of the poke. If you are visiting Seattle and looking for recommendations, please see
