Been waiting here for a hour and have yet to get my food and they close in 20 minutes

Great setting and great food — fisherman style. Had the Benedict Halibut that came with fruit and hash browns. Mix the great flavors with the beautiful view of the moored fishing fleet and you have a distinctive memory of the Ballard area.

Great food, with a nice view. Not fussy at all, just a great breakfast spot.

I was disappointed by the quality of the food here. My salad was drenched in dressing which was unappetizing and the burger was one of those frozen patties. The staff checked on me regularly and made sure I had refills on my drink. I provably won’t return, though.

Greeted by happy staff quickly. Struggled to choose between two board specials: salted caramel French toast or grilled snapper, eggs and hashbrowns. I chose latter. Yum! Two eggs cooked to order. A plentiful amount of browns and a huge serving of grilled snapper. I’m very critical of bar and restaurant service and they exceeded my desires. My only critique is one that would help them … There were extensive specials written near the entrance but I was greeted at the table with, «Do you know what you would like?». Since specials are often using ingredients not normally used, it would help reduce spoilage if I’d been asked as my coffee was being poured, «Did you have a chance to see our list of tasty specials by the door?» A great breakfast experience!

Had a great Breakfast at the Bay Café. It is what I would consider a diner that serves classic, greasy spoon fare. Yumminess! I suggest you try the #3 which is two pancakes, eggs(any style) and bacon or sausage. If your looking for something like classic diner food this is it.

Great breakfast! They always get my well-done bacon request right. The service is great. The coffee is the only thing I can think of to complain about, but that’s probably just my personal preference. I like mine strong and dark so I usually pick up coffee elsewhere beforehand.

Five for breakfast. We come here a lot(manly for breakfast) and really enjoy the food on the breakfast menu. There is a nice staff, and the breakfast portions are good and big. *come here for breakfast*

There is something beautiful about the parsimonious elegance of this place. It is as pure and unaffected as any restaurant could be. They refuse to mess with a model that has been working for this place — and diners like it across the county — for decades. The waitresses are professional — some having waited tables for 30 years. They refuse to use a POS system instead writing orders on old-fashion checks. Ready to pay? Head up to the register by the door. You are not going to find quinoa hash, or applewood smoked pork belly. What you are going to get is wholesome, old-fashioned breakfast food, as solid and traditional as it gets. There is a time and place for everything, and with an almost nostalgic nod, I love this place.

A beautiful location, poorly maintained, smelly, sticky, dirty. The food is below-average diner fare. Hard to believe they serve anything besides fresh fish and crab meat in a restaurant at Fisherman’s Terminal! And PLEASE learn how to make a real hollandaise sauce… not that hard, folks. Service is ok. I won’t be back. Take your out-of-town visitors here if they’re the sort that think fishing boats are exotic, and they’re not gourmets.

I made plans to meet a friend for brunch before we went hiking in Discovery Park. We walked in to the restaurant and the hostess looked at us, grabbed two menus and started walking away. No ‘hello’ or ‘follow me’ or anything. She seated us at a very tiny booth, plopped the menus down and walked away. I was feeling physically cramped in the tiny booth — there was a half wall connecting this booth with more on the other side. Whenever anyone moved the entire row of booths moved, creating an unfortunate mal de mer in my stomach and head. I figured we’d ask our waitperson if we could move to one of many other available booths in the place. But we waited. And waited. And waited. After 12 minutes and nobody coming to our table my friend and I got up and left. We walked by the hostess who watched us leave without a word. No, I will not be going back.

Great place to go where the staff treat you like family. I love the fact that the staff treats you like family because my family always has get togethers here. They don’t take reservations but that always accommodate us when we show up and sometimes we have 10 people when we randomly decide to go. The food here is also really good. You can’t go wrong with any of the omelettes or eggs benedict here.

Reliably good breakfast food, and wonderful friendly staff. The soups are always homemade and delicious too!

This is a good place to have a decent breakfast with great customer service. For years I would come to the fisherman’s terminal and would see this diner but never thought about trying the place. My other half wanted to try a different traditional breakfast place so we thought we would try it out. It is your standard diner with a great view. It actually looks similar to Chinooks that is a fish market away from here. We were seated at a small booth near the counter. I forgot our servers name but she was absolutely awesome. She had a great attitude and always had our coffee cups and water filled and checked if we needed anything. The food was good, it is your standard breakfast. Price wise it is on par with other diners. They did have specials on the blackboard that had seafood listed. I would come here more often if it wasn’t out of the way for me.

This is my own little hidden gem. I’ll tell you about it, but don’t tell anyone else, ok? Bay Café is right on the fisherman’s terminal. Look around and you’ll see real live fisherman, filling up on their last great meal before they go out to sea. I love their benedicts. You have to try the seafood benedict with shrimp, scallops, and crabmeat. And I love their cinnamon buns. I mean, it might kill you with sweetness(and cholesterol, thanks to the scoop of melted butter on top of icing), but you’re going to die very happy. And isn’t that what you always wanted? The service is always chipper, the coffee is always flowing, the views are fantabulous, the portions are huge, and most importantly, the nums are delicious. But let’s keep this one between me and you, alright?

The service is consistently great, the staff seem to really enjoy working at the Bay Café and seem to get a kick out of the customers. They’re friendly and want you to have a good experience. The view is quite nice and I enjoy the big windows facing north so that we may enjoy the view. The booths and bathrooms are clean. The service staff makes sure to clear your plates away when you’re done so you don’t have to sit staring at the mess. The food is exactly as advertised, diner food. The portions are hearty, I can’t finish my plate. Some dishes are better than others, I stick to the classics except for the Benedict because the hollandaise sauce needs a little work and I’m under the impression that most of the seafood is frozen or canned. Other than that you’ll fair well with omelets, pancakes, waffles, etc. This is a great place to entertain friends who enjoy coffee with their breakfast instead of mimosas.

3-stars for breakfast – the Benedict’s are generous in portion, but the size does not make up for what’s lacking in flavor. Same goes for the omelettes, waffles, etc. In fact, the breakfasts have left me feeling heavy and somewhat revolted afterwards – including this very moment(although over-imbibing on wine last night certainly doesn’t help). On a positive note, always an enjoyable view of Fisherman’s Terminal, and the service is good. Appears to be a bastion for blue hairs early in the morning.

This was recommended by a friend and was a great recommendation. Even on a weekday this place was packed at 11 am. The hostess was friendly and greeted us and seated us right away. The waitress was another story. She came up to the table and just stared at us. I said should I order now and she continued to stare. So, I rattled off what I wanted and she wrote it down and the YS did the same. We were both puzzled by that behavior. She never said a word to us and finally a friendly gentleman took over the table. One star deduction for surly wait staff. The food was fabulous and just the right amount. The French toast was very tasty, often I don’t care for French toast made in a restaurant but this was very good. I would definitely go back and try this place again, but watch out for silent wait staff.

Our daughter took us to Bay Café for brunch recently. It was our last day in Seattle and we wanted a good meal before a long road trip to home. We had good food and great service, with a view of the boats outside the windows. I was interested in the soup and half sandwich combination. I asked the waitress about the two soups offered that day and was pleasantly surprised when she offered to get me a small cup of each one to taste. I chose the Navy Bean soup, which was delicious! The half a Turkey Sandwich was good. It was a nice combination. My wife an daughter had omelets, which were large and tasty. If you are in the area for breakfast or brunch, this is the place to eat.

A solid breakfast joint, where you’ll get to eat with fishermen and other locals On Fisherman’s Terminal, next to Chinooks, this unpretentious dive is a great breakfast place. No, they don’t have gourmet food. What they do have are locals who talk business over breakfast. This is the place the folks working on boats go to eat. Not sure I’d eat dinner there though …
