Happened on this place when walking back to beacon hill on boren. I walked in and instantly loved the old styled interior and large leather chairs at the counter. I asked to be seated there and was surprised to be able to see all the cooking action right in front of me! Crab cakes delicious, went twice in three days. The hot brown sandwhich was delicious, a little salty however, not a deal breaker. Will continue to make the 4 mile round trip walk to here from beacon hill for the food, atmosphere and cooking show! The walk will be necessary for the vast amounts of food I’ll be inhaling

I was a regular customer at 13 coin at South Lake union as I live by whole foods in south lake union and about 1 block away from the restaurant, but tonight I had a terrible experience at 13 coin!!! The manager of the lounge is totally rude and he needs to be fired. The food I ordered was totally unacceptable and manager made no apologize for it. He told us not to come back when I confronted his rude behavior. This manager puts his personal ego above his customer satisfaction and this will definitely hurt 13 coin business as it was already a very slow business there(could be the result of his rude behavior turned many customers away?!). I told him that I will let everyone in my condo complex which consists of 300 units know about this incident. He didn’t seem care enough about the reputation of the restaurant because it’s not his pocket gets hurt. 13 coin definitely loss me and my family as a royal regular customer as we spent around $ 100 easily between drinks and food each week there:(!!!

We ate here around 7:30pm on a Friday night with no waiting. The service was timely and very personable. We ate spaghetti with meat sauce, with side salads. The food was great and the atmosphere was a fun energetic. Interesting place! Definitely a «do over» the next time we’re in town.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Coins was once one of my favorite go-to eateries in Seattle, and a name I associated with quality in both their food and service. It pains me to say that this is no longer the case. I think it’s the attention to detail and quality of their dishes that have taken the most noticeable declines. My service was pretty good though, so by no means was my experience all bad. This place just doesn’t feel the same anymore.

This is by far my favorite restaurant. We love Bob he always takes such great care of us. When hes not there our service is really hit or miss. Drove down here from Marysville for dinner. Had to ask several times for different items. One part of my dinner never came… kinda disappointed in the service we received tonight. Although the chicken parm was amazing as always.

Went with a party of 12 to their back room. The person across from me got a HUGE Joe’s Special. I ordered the same thing and it was about 25% the size of his. Something’s wrong in the kitchen.

I’ve probably been here half a dozen times with coworkers since this was one of our default restaurants to have our welcome and farewell lunches. I’m a fan of all their egg entrees, especially their chicken fried steak and eggs. Their fettuccine dishes are also solid. The fact that they’re open 24⁄7 on most days also means this is a great place to wind down at and get some good food after a late night out. It’s a shame I didn’t find out about their hours until a few months ago, but now it’s permanently on my list of potential options to eat out at past midnight in Seattle. Great atmosphere, good vibes, and friendly waiters. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

1st time dining last night. Being a los angeles resident, 1st thing that i noticed was how it reminded me of The Pantry in downtown LA. Same great menu items, open 24/7, same type of vibe. You could tell the place was old… the seat leather and styling were dead giveaways. Loooove the old-style, heavy dishes that they used to present their food. Real utilitarian. Ordered the french dip and they hit it out of the park. Just enough crisp on the roll, meat was perfectly cooked, and the au jus was perfect. Kinda hard to understand the waiter — but that’s what makes this place work. Quirky, old-style bulwark of good food in the heart of downtown seattle. Didnt give them 5 stars because their parking lot kinda sucked. You’ll see what i mean when u visit and try to exit through the back/side. Aside from that, bravo 13 coins!

13 Coins near Boren is a 24⁄7 downtown Seattle institution. It’s been ages, but first time visit for the kiddo on 4÷30÷16. We were seated at the counter, not a booth. One has to experience the 1960-ish era ‘Captain Kirk’ swivel chairs, at least once. Three stars for the décor and food, however extra star for the service and culinary ‘ballet’ the hardworking line crew provided. Amazing the coordination of having nearly a dozen pans going, occasional dramatic marsala flames, no singed eyebrows, the insistent expediting, and no entrée casualties! Started with the complementary crudities, followed cheesy goodness atop a cup of French Onion Soup. Kiddo also had the Veal Parmigiano with pasta. Surprisingly, it was a generous serving and ended up being boxed up to bring home. I had one of the Saturday night specials: the prime rib with steamed broccoli, and pasta. Thankful the au jus wasn’t overly salty. Declined the horseradish when ordering, yet it still appeared on the plate. Somehow, no mashed potatoes were available, hence the pasta substitution. Perfectly al dente though. More line crew floor show as the place filled up around 1030pm. This was multitasking in extremis! Ten minutes later, the Kiddo’s dessert selection appeared from our ever smiling bow-tied waiter. It was a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie in a tiny cast iron pan, topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. He was happy and well fed for sure. Hats off to the hardworking culinary staff working the line. Amazing!

Favorite restaurant in Seattle. The calamari steak is the best you’ll ever have. Its open 24 hours so if you’re staying at a hotel in the area you can count on 13 Coins to be open. They serve breakfast all day. If you’re lucky enough to have Dee for a chef in the morning you’ll be very happy. I’ve never had a bad plate of food in the 26 years I’ve been going there. I even got an autograph from Gary Paton, Shawn Kemp & Dell Harris back in 1996. It was the Sonics hangout back in the day. 13 Coins is an old school Italian steakhouse that won’t be around much longer. They’re tearing down the building to build another ugly apartment building that’s turning Seattle into a bland modular hipster wasteland. So get it while you can. We were visiting Seattle for just under a week and we went to 13 Coins 4 times. If you ate there every day for a month you wouldn’t have to eat the same thing twice. And if you did eat the same thing twice then hey, lucky you, you’re at 13 Coins!

Terrible food, terrible service! Don’t waste ur time or money… Go To Dick’s!!! All of our good came out burnt, and when we informed the manager Joel was rude and combative. The fact the food was not even edible, and then addressing the issue was an issue… I will never be back!

Ok for starters their veggie sandwich is a sad excuse for a sandwich. I can’t believe they get away with charging $ 12 for that plate. French fries are great though, I’ll give them that My friend ordered the corn beef hash which the portions were huge and the meat was actually cooked very well so that was ok too. In general this is a better place to go to for 24⁄7 food instead of Denny’s but I gotta admit I’m not a huge fan of this Diner joint

13 coins has diminished. Once the emerald of the emerald City, it is a mere shadow of its Former glory. With the ambience still present the Attention to detail and excellence Have left the building like Elvis. A heartbreaker indeed, in more Ways than one. Medium Steak served rare and So heavy on garlic butter i could Taste nothing else. Does anyone know how to scramble Eggs anymore. I yearn for the light Fluffy hot deliciousness piled high with Cheese melting like spring water. Well at least i donated a 20% tip To the über friendly/under experienced Romanian waiters family. The waiter, Alex was his name, was totally legit. He was very respectful yet sufficiently attentive to our table and was just great. That being said, the food was not that great for the price, I got veal parmasiana that was tasty, but the quality wasn’t worth the price $ 30. I got a drink from the bar, I got the«bartender’s whim» which is essentially whatever they decide to make for you. It was alright although I wish they would’ve strained the drink before putting it in the glass because the texture threw me off. The rest of the staff in the restaurant were pretty unprofessional and the culture they had clearly didn’t match the almost intimidating vibe they were going for. It was a very nice atmosphere but it was a little pretentious in my opinion.

The night began on a questionable note. «E minor» set the tone. Difficult to find the rhythm in a pattern of sketch made of breakable bridges. After being sent to review bands at a venue that was not in ANY way built to accommodate decibel elevations above common speech, I still remained the Good Soldier. Seeking refuge from the storm, a beacon in the way of «13 Coins» beckoned me to enter. The atmosphere at 1AM in ANY service related location can and does test the metal of even the most seasoned of «Service Professionals.» I a welcomed by the Entrance staff to walk the lounge as to get acquainted with it, something I found quite unique. After discovering that a few of my closest so confidants frequent«13 Coins», I pause to speak with a few sitting in the booths. Enter Mr. Preston Patterson, a smiling, positive, and welcomed force to be reckoned with. Mr. Patterson is at the TOP of his game, serving multiple booths, Bar seating so, and random reviewers like myself. As I sit and order, Preston is there as though He is FULLY in sync with my mind’s will. «You need some meat?» Of COURSE I need a plate of bacon, it is 1AM and I just reviewed a venue that saddened my soul. Comfort food is on my list, and Preston Patterson is FULLY aware. There are many 1AM incidents that require specific attention to detail, Preston Patterson is one of those Diamonds in the Rough. Preston Patterson is forced to face a reality that most choose to ignore. Not only a «Server.» Mr. Patterson serves as a «Listener of Life», a «Comfort to Error in Relationships.»., and a «Friend to those in need of a simple smile.» «13 Coins» is one of the surreal locations that somehow has the ability to revitalize even the weakest of souls. With Mr. Preston Patterson, «13 Coins» only becomes better, and the mythos of a place in Seattle that has a Preston Patterson DOESEXIST! If nothing else, Mr. Preston Patterson’s attention to anyone’s needs, even beyond the order, is WORTH the visit. With all of the changes happening in Seattle, it is comforting to know that Preston Patterson still holds true to the old school of thought, that what matters most, is to make the best out of situations that are on the low end of a bad day. Preston Patterson is enough to decide that«13 Coins» is the GOTOO place at ANY given time, for a GREAT meal, a Positive Listener, and a person who will on day become so much more than a «Server», so come and EXPERIENCE Preston Patterson’s style of comfort and service while you can, for we only receive a Diamond in the Rough once in a Blue Moon, hopefully this Blue Moon doesn’t fade soon! COME to «13COINS» for PRESTONPATTERSON, he can and WILL make your visit, one to follow you far beyond the time spent within«13 Coins,» He just stays with you, and reminds us all, that kindness is still a factor in all of life’s events. Preston Patterson, «13 Coins», WORTHTHEVISTIT!!! Respectfully, TS

Wow! This is the second time we have been here and been disappointed in the last year. We LOVE the Seatac restaurant. Excellent service and food. But Seattle? For $ 35 I got a barely warm meal and my pepper steak was missing the peppercorns(my favorite part). I asked and the waiter brought me gravy with maybe 15 peppercorns. Seatac version was LOADED with them which is why I love this dish. My husband was not impressed with his«believer» either. The chicken was super tough! We did not get the normal appetizer tray, and they«hid» the mints when we went to leave because the bar crowd takes them all! What the heck? There were some positives. The kids cups are great, our sons Mac and cheese was deliecious, and my husband got to pee next to Shawn Kemp. So sad for a Seattle icononic restaurant! Hopefully things will change when they have to move.

I’m a little puzzled by the negative reviews. I live two shakes of a lambs tail from this place and each time I have been there it’s been awesome. Awesome in the sense of service, speed of delivery and quality of the food. I have never had a bad experience or been disappointed in the last 15+ years with 13 Coins. The ONLY thing I will say, and of which other have agreed, my French Onion beats theirs!

The food was not very tasty, and the prices were higher than other restaurants in the SLU area. I’d strongly recommend trying another restaurant out in the area. I think this place might be okay if it was 3am and nothing else was open. FYI– I got the biscuits and gravy. I was hungry, so I ate it. It may be because I’m from the east coast, I’m used to much better biscuits and gravy. The only plus this place has is that it’s open 24⁄7.

I haven’t been here in 20 yrs. Its just like I remembered dark and retro 70’s type atmosphere. I love it. The food was good as was the service. The Prime Rib in the breakfast could have been more rare but other then that we enjoyed it.

I receive great service here. My waiter the first time was friendly and humorous. I fail to remember his name. Another server I’ve had is Chuck. He did all things in a timely manner. The food is pretty good. The smoked salmon eggs benedict comes with hashbrowns, which are cooked how they ought to be– crisp, golden and delicious!

When I showed up at 6am for breakfast, I almost didn’t believe it was a breakfast place — it looks like a little like an 70’s steakhouse — but it’s a 24-hour restaurant so they definitely serve eggs and other breakfast items. The waffle mix was out and the lady who made hollandaise sauce for eggs benedict wasn’t there so I got an omelette — and boy, was I glad! It was the farmer’s omelette with potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, and ham. It was GIGANTIC — and came with a ton of hash browns and toast — and was the best tasting omelette I’ve ever had! The music is the Beatles and Queen, so it definitely fits with the older restaurant association. But don’t let it fool you: the food is great!

630 Friday evening, the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in Seattle, perhaps the country, was had. It was a birthday celebration and was terrible. Service was awful, slow, and full of mistakes. Appetizers came after the entrees, entrees were cold. Soup came without spoons, special orders weren’t fulfilled, the waiter was blaming everything and everyone except himself, and then didn’t offer to comp. anything for ruining our dinner. Oh, the wine and beer bottles were delivered without breakage. Then, he comes to clear the table and asks us to hand him our plates, rather than pick them up himself. It was two hours of circus-like errors, and is the first and last time we will ever go there. How us this place in business? And it was about $ 40-$ 50 per person — outrageous! If there was a way to put no stars, I’d do it.

Loved the darker setting… the large private booths made it romantic. We knew it was a bit pricey and found it to be a good place for dinner. I chose the chef’s special –which didn’t disappoint. There are many choices for great food in Seattle and this is one to remember. It’s also open 24⁄7!

It’s been a while since I’ve been there and was in that part of town so why not? I was shocked when at 9:45 on a Saturday night it was empty! Now I know why, things have changed! Our 20 something server was less than friendly, where was Bobby?, Laura? Chuck? You could always count of first class service. Apparently you have to request water, bread and a relish dish now. We both ordered breakfast and waited. When the food arrived, it was a mess. Burned french toast, burned bacon, raw hashbrowns, toast that was burned on one side, not toasted on the other. Seriously looked like Denny’s on a bad day! Nobody bothered to check on us so we piled up the unedible stuff on a plate. Our server finally made an appearance and upon seeing our lack of satisfaction insisted on us taking an order of bacon to go? Why not offer to take one meal off the ticket? or a dessert? So to ad insult we had to wait for the bacon to go! There was a time that I would go out of my way to hit 13 Coins, never again! Why pay the higher prices for Red Robin quality service and food?

I joined a friend visiting town for an early breakfast after a very late concert. It was probably 4 or 5 in the morning, and after a night of hard dancing, we were badly in need of nourishment, and as if by magic we happened upon this joint that is open 24 hours a day on Boran Avenue. Pros– –Nice and swanky atmosphere, love the high-backed bar chairs and the booths, not divey at all, like you would typically expect from a 24 hour establishment. –Food was well prepared, service and attentiveness by server and wait-staff was phenomenal –Even at this early hour it was busy enough to be inviting but not too busy that you couldn’t find a favorite seat Cons– –It’s a little on the pricey side, but with an elegant and inviting atmosphere and very comfortable seating, along with good service, I think its worth spending a few more ‘coins’ on this fine dining establishment

This. Place. Is. Awful. Why do I ever bother coming here? I HATE giving bad reviews but this one is well deserved. A lot. We walked in and had a party of five, two of our friends are over 6′ tall. We were given a table of 3 with five menus on it. When we asked for another table(cause there were 10 empty around us) we were told to go to the bar because people might me coming to take the tables around us. Once we sat at the bar, the hostess was staring at us while we waited for menus and water. After about five minutes I stood up and walked over to the stand and the hostess started gathering menus for us. She said do you want these? No I want to sit at our table and watch you stare at us. UGH! We ordered our food(the service was horrible) and our food came to the table barely warm. My friend got biscuits and gravy, and there was barely and ounce of gravy on it. When we asked for more the lady said, that’s how it comes. We responded… Well can we get more?! For an additional $ 2, you can get another ounce. This gravy must have gold in it. If they had people that gave a shit about service maybe they wouldn’t have to get cheaper and cheaper on the food. If you want to come to a place that makes you feel like you are a bother, make this your first stop. It’s sad to see this iconic place go down hill. Bottom line is don’t bother. The service is so bad you’ll want to slap someone. Don’t try to tell the manager about your experience either, she is even worse than her staff. Bad attitude and worse customer service.

I remember back in the days that this was only one of the few places that stayed open late night after the bars/clubs. Since now that i’m *cough* older *cough* there’s been more places that are open for late night eats with better food so this place is never on my radar. The food prices were pretty high but the portions were big so its very sharable. Service is average, sometimes you have to hunt down people just to get a check. I think this location might be closing in a couple years due to development but they might just move into the new building after its built.

Like a perfect old sweater, this a Seattle rarity, a 24 hour diner, just wears well. Delicious with great ingredients so fair trade.well. It’s always subtly swank, like Sinatra with an unbuttoned collar. I like the open kitchen and reliability. 13 coins never changes. Thank God!

13 Coins appears to be a late night staple of sorts here in Seattle, and while I certainly appreciated the breadth of their menu even at 0300 on a Sunday morning, I found the food lacking as is so often the case with such a varied menu. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? You won’t hear me complain about a thing if I’m able to get professional service and an upscale atmosphere in the wee hours of the morning, and that’s exactly what you get at 13 Coins. While my group was(surprisingly if we’re being honest) sober, a large percentage of those seated were very much not, and kudos to the staff for handling everything so very well. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I get it — you feel as though you can charge a premium because you’ve got a decent atmosphere and there aren’t many other options at such an hour, but $ 14.99 for an omelette and a slab of hash browns? No. Sure, this was a large portion, but as you’ll see, the quality was relatively low and it’s not as though these are premium ingredients. My dish was barely worth double digits, and certainly not worth what I paid. No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Here’s what it would have taken for me to recreate this dish: 1. Cook up maybe four eggs in a pan — wait until they’re pretty thoroughly cooked 2. Chop up some mediocre sausage and add far too little«hot» cheese that isn’t in any fashion hot or spicy. Put it on top of the eggs and flip it into something that kinda sorta resembles an appropriate omelette. 3. Add a relatively flavorless(but very well cooked I must say) slab of hash browns into the mix. 4. Serve. Not only could I very easily replicate this dish myself, but I could do it quite a bit better than what I was presented with here at 13 Coins. The flavor was poor, the presentation was poor, and especially considering the price the overall experience strictly with regard to the food was poor. Single Star Granted on account of it being edible. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Again, the menu here at 13 Coins is impressive, and the service is stellar even at hours when it shouldn’t be, but all this comes into play at the expense of the food quality, and with that being the case I’d look elsewhere unless it’s between midnight and 0500 on a weekend. No Star Granted.
