Nice service and nice food! Although the food can be spicy but they taste good! Recommend their kimchi fried rice. It’s not that spicy. They add mayonnaise on the side. Taste even better if you mixed the mayo with the rice.

Been here 3 times since they changed to Chikara. All 3 times were great experiences with delicious food and friendly service. Favorites: Tuna tataki, butter enoki and yaki onigiri(grilled rice balls). The ramen here is solid with the broth being on point. We’ve had both the spicy miso and clam ramen. BBQ might not match up to gyu-gaku, but definitely a good alternative. Note to self: Next time we gotta try the poached egg dipping sauce. Beer comes with frosted mugs. Always a good thing. Surprised about the current rating. This is our new go-to place since there’s usually no wait. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t been here yet. Don’t start getting too popular for us Chikara!

No wait, good food and friendly servers! What more can you ask for? I really enjoy their menu because they have so much to offer and not just jbbq. I’ve tried a lot of their meats, ramen, udon, desserts and appetizers and I’m never disapointed! Fair price with the amount and QUALITY of food!

Passed by this place often and always wanted to try it out. Decent ambience on a Tuesday night. Very … Bar. Sorry, can’t think of a better adjective. Happy hour menus is great and on your first BBQ order, kimchi and veggies on the house. We ordered the pork belly(50% off happy hour), their kalbi, and sausages. Meats were delicious and flavorful. Better than some of the BBQ places we’ve been to. Also shared their clam ramen. YUM! Recommend it for sure.

They did it again! I came tonight for some comfort food, and it was just as amazing as my last time there. I even ordered their drink, white peach… I’m not complaining… I’m still in heaven!

No wait time for 7pm dinner on a sunday Gyu kaku had a 40min wait which is why we came here. Ordered 2 beef and one squid, kimchi fried rice and eggplant with kimchi mix. The place is nice. The meat is ok but not as flavorful compared to gyu. We had vegetables on the house Overall a 3/5, just not super satisfied

TL;DR terrible service, not worth the hassle. Cons: * Only some of our group for the food they ordered. * Service took forever. It didn’t appear that we had a dedicated waiter. They also could not really tell us what food they were bringing out. * arraigning the bill was a pain. Pros * Food wasn’t bad. * only thing quick was sitting down for the table

I am very sorry for the servers here. I meant it was all the manager fault! What kind of manager is it? Such a big restaurant, and only 3 servers including the cleanup person on a friday night? I can’t believe how slow everything is. The servers work so hard but they do not have a host person to greet the customer neither. No body clean the three table next to me even they have left for 15 minutes! And we have not get our water or anything after being seated 15 minutes! Food are excellent! But really, know how to manager your restaurant please. Seriously all of the complaint about the wait is true. I would love them to change! I want to be back.

4 stars for being opened late, having quality cuts of meat at a reasonable price, and great service. 3 stars for the ramen. Loved the broth and toppings, but personally didn’t like the ramen noodles itself. I dined with three other people and we ordered 3 large meat dishes(harami, premium kalbi, and salt kalbi), which came out to be a perfect amount as we had also ordered a few side items. The meats were all very well seasoned, fresh,. It also came with a side of kim chi and assorted veggie platter, which is a plus! Would I come back? Definitely! During the day, there are so many BBQ spots to choose from(my personal fav being Chung Dam!), but I would say Chikara should not be overlooked. As a late night spot, I would dare say it’s one of the best BBQ options in the area!

This is by no means up to par with the Japanese BBQ places down in SoCal, but it’s closest I can get. The quality of the meat here is ten million times better than Gyu Kaku. This place is so underrated! I always order the kalbi and kimchee fried rice. Check in to get the free egg dipping sauce! In addition to the usual bbq items, I’ve also had their ramen. I love getting the clam ramen here as well. Not sure why everybody is fussing about the service. The waitresses are always super nice here and they try their best to accommodate. All around, a solid go to place for my friends and I every single time.

Décor: 4.5÷5 Food: 4⁄5(ramen 3, BBQ5) Service: 5⁄5 We were craving about ramen noodle and BBQ so we decided to try this tricky restaurant where serves both. The décor is contemporary and very nice. It’s divided in two section: dining room and BBQ room. We were seated at BBQ room and ordered miso ramen and BBQ set C(lunch special). The service was quick and nice. The miso ramen was good but not the best. It was a little bit too salty and the presentation was little off. The BBQ set was great in both quality and quantity. It comes with rice, egg soup, and kimchi. The harami(beef belly) and blank pork sausage were awesome. There were 3 kind of dipping sauces but their meat was marinated perfectly so that no dipping needed. It was delicious with simple salt, lemon, and pepper. We will definitely come back!!!

I would give this place 4.5 stars for Lunch! The service was great during lunch. Not super busy, food was priced well and we had very attentive servers. The down side(-.5 star) I am a new mommy and had my 6 wks old baby, and he decided to drop a big«boom boom»; sadly this place did not have a changing table. I had to use a decorative table in the ladies room. I came prepared to keep my baby safe and clean, changed and sanitized after use. Overall. We will come again. Maybe invite friends for lunch here.

Attentive service and generous portion sizes! Came here for lunch on Dec. 31st– not very busy. We ordered the BBQ option C, shoyu ramen, and the chicken karaage don lunch special. They first gave us the plate of vegetables for the BBQ, and asked if all 3 of us wanting the dipping sauces for the BBQ. Very thoughtful of them to ask, since we were planning to share the BBQ! BBQ and the chicken karaage don were the highlights. First of all, the karaage don comes with soup and salad. I love their soup! It’s not just regular miso soup. There’s strings of eggs in there and it’s very flavorful. I love their salad too(iceberg lettuce with seaweed salad!). The dressing is really good; not the creamy type. The karaage don was HUGE. The bowl was sooo big! Comes with a sliced boiled egg with a runny center, kimchi and shredded cabbage. I had to take like half of it home. The BBQ had a good variety of meats, and it comes with a bowl of rice. We ended up getting 2 bowls of rice on accident because 2 different servers each gave us one. Not complaining here, obviously! The ramen was mediocre. There’s better places for ramen. I wouldn’t recommend getting ramen when dining here. Go for the BBQ and rice bowls. Their HH seems good too; I’ll have to come back and try some other food. Overall, great establishment with lots of potential. Service has some kinks to work out though– it seems like the servers are not assigned to tables, so it can get confusing. For instance, we were asked for drinks and were given bowls of rice 2 times. I appreciate the attentiveness though! Much better than being ignored :) Will be back.

Came here with my husband after a football game because they were one of the restaurants in the area that opens late. Wrong choice! We should have just starved ourselves instead. We sat ourselves at the bar and they had two waiters at the time; both of them didn’t help us with the order until 12min later. We ordered two bowls of cha-siu ramen and it took them another 23min; not sure why it took them so long when they had 3 «chefs» in the kitchen and the restaurant wasn’t even half full. The ramen noodle itself was good, the soup base was way too salty and oily, the eggs were old because the center looked gross and sticky, the cha-siu(pork) were not fresh because it was cold in the center. We didn’t even bother to touch the soup because it was too greasy; I did finish most of the cha-siu because I was too hungry. My husband gave me all the cha-siu and I gave him most of my noodles; 10min after we got home that night, my husband had stomach ache and had to use the bathroom for long time, I felt sick(and dizzy) and non-stop puking everything out, gross! I just«hugged» the toilet for a good 15min before I could even move myself to bed. Horrible experience and I won’t be coming back for any reason.

Used to be Kahoo but they changed the name so I guess I’ll have to write a second review. This is my bf and mine’s go-to late night and we order the same exact thing every time — nabeyaki udon. It’s probably my favorite udon in the bay area because the broth is light and they don’t skimp on anything. There’s plenty of vegetables, meat, and the egg is soft and gooey. There’s a decent amount of noodles as well, but if you want to share between two people you can order extra noodles. One pot always fills both of us up so it’s so worth it! Another aspect I really like about this place is how friendly the servers are, especially the guy with really long hair. It’s always sets a good mood, unlike service as late night phở places. :P Pro Tip: Come here late night! They switch chefs and the chef during dinner time isn’t as great. We’ve tried it twice and both times are eggs were over-boiled and we got half portion of what we usually get. The broth is also saltier. Coming after 10 pm on the other hand, has always been a solid bet.

The food was good. That’s the good part. At 6:00pm I called to make a reservation for 8:00pm. We were seated promptly. We received menus at 8:35pm. Our server was a middle-aged lady. My guests were my mother, my niece, and lady friend. Orders were place, the food came in waves. The appetizer came third. The salad arrived fourth. A little odd, but not terrible, that. When we were finished eating, no one checked on us. My mother wanted more tea. The burner was still on, with my 2.5 year old niece in the corner. We waited what seemed like forever, but was likely only 15 minutes for someone to ask. A younger person who was perhaps another waitperson asked us if we wanted to order anything else from the kitchen. I said we were interested in more tea and a dessert menu. She never returned. I saw her behind the short-order kitchen counter, but didn’t see her coordinate with our server. Another 15 minute wait. Our actual server came back around that time, and asked if everything was okay. I said no, we had waited an inordinate amount of time for a dessert menu, never got a refill of tea, and really I just wanted the check. She did bring it. And never even retrieved it. Another 15 minutes this. By now we’ve wasted almost an hour of time. It’s dark outside, my niece is getting bedtime cranky. I took the bill and my card to the first person I saw use the computer/point-of-sale. Asked them brusquely to run my card. I signed it, left the tip blank, left a cash-only and just short of 15% tip to make the point, and left. Awful. And feel free to read my other reviews to get an idea of how generous a reviewer I normally am. This is the harshest review I have ever written. Good luck out there.

I was surprised when I was heading to Kahoo and saw that they changed their name and added the yakiniku cooking thing to their offerings. Since the yakinku area looked so brand new, my party changed direction and asked to be seated over there for dinner instead. Looking at the a la carte pricing, it’s pretty expensive for ordering one portion of uncooked meat for the customer to cook. I was looking for combo choices where I could get some more meat for my dollar. Unfortunately, they only had one combo with selections that I didn’t really care for. It did seem like they took a while to bring our meats out. I would have thought that they would’ve had it prepped before the service started? Also, there wasn’t a lot of staff servers in our area so we got very infrequent check-ins to our table. Usually with a new restaurant like this, I don’t mind supporting it for the sake of trying it out and although the food tasted good after all the work to cook it all, it was still not worth the price, especially considering the lower cost options within a one block radius around here. The weather’s getting warmer and with that, my chances of coming back to Chikara are slim.

If you were a regular patron of Kahoo, they have a simplified menu(No curry rice, doh!) and sit you on the right side, and split the other half of the room to serve yakiniku. Can’t comment about the grilled food, but they still have decent ramen. I had the miso ramen and to my delight it came with a full soft boiled egg. Don’t know why I get excited about that, but it’s a great compliment to the savory but not too salty broth. Good amount of sliced pork belly and noodles for a reasonable price. I only come here during the late hours, and the same guy serves us. He’s always attentive and checks up on us to refill our ice waters. Recommended for late bites.
