The short rib sandwich was great. Why only 4 stars? It was good but greasy. Definitely not health food.

This will be a short review, but I do have to state for the record that I did not order food from here. My colleague couldn’t finish her Short Rib sandwich, so I ate half of it. This review is based on that half. My first bite of the sandwich was good. It got better with every bite. I had planned on taking just a couple bites, but by the end, I was marveling at how good it was. First of all, the bread was perfect. Then the short rib was extremely juicy. Finally, all the other toppings completed the sandwich perfectly, including the jalapenos, which added just the right amount of heat. It would be hard to pass on this sandwich the next time I’m at 4th Street Market. I’d probably get this and one of the poutines. Or maybe I’ll try one of the other sandwiches. Who knows.

I have been going to 4th St for a while, but this was my first time at Stockyard. My friends were always gobbling up the yummy sandwiches, but I was never really in the mood for one. Not that I missed out, I usually enjoyed what I did end up eating, but I just usually skipped it. Not today. Of course, now I am stuffed. I had the turkey melt with jalapenos and tater tots. Did I mention I am stuffed? The jalapenos were a genius add, giving the sandwich a kick but not overpowering it. The bread was really tasty, some sort of herbed roll, and the tater tots are definitely worth an $ 1 bump from the fries.

First of all, have to say Leonard is A-mazing!!! After coming here when they were closing and missing out, I was finally able to try their sandwiches. I had the Turkey Melt and their House Chips. It was to die for! The cheese, jalapeños, bacon, Tomatoes, mustard all sitting on top of some delicious bread was a great combination with the turkey. The house chips were fresh and salted just right! Can’t wait to come back :)

Leonard from Stockyard got me to finally try this place! He was so friendly and made sure to check in after our meal. That’s real awesome service. The Turkey Melt was to die for. Definitely hit the spot and the mustard in the sandwich was a game changer lol. The house chips were delicious, but I can’t wait to try the tots. I’ll definitely be coming back and trying some of their other sandwiches!

Sandwiches and tater tot Poutine. BAM. This place is great. Food is on point. Usually get the short rib sandwich but opted for the chicken club today. As always, shits on point. The food speaks for itself but the staff is always rad to talk to and super nice. The owner Philly is as good as it gets. Local dude who has been in the area making good food for a while. The kind of person you hope succeeds and are so stoked when you see him doing just that. Hope this place never leaves 4SM.

I made my way to the food mall on Wednesday. This was my very first stop after a lengthy drive. I ordered the tater tot poutine with a fried egg on top. I wish I would have asked for no egg, but that was my fault. I am just not much of an egg person. The food was good. I think what really did it for me was the welcoming staff. They were patient and gave us a small run through of the menu. We were new and town and they were pretty understanding when it came to not knowing what place we wanted to try first. I was happy with my order and service.

So we had breakfast handled but there wasnt food at home so my brother and I decided to pick up some club sandwiches from Stockyard. First off I really like the service here. Super super friendly and they were so quick and efficient with my order. I picked up a chicken club sandwich and to be honest I was a bit sketpical since its a chicken sandwich I wasnt expecting it to taste out of this world amazing. But alas it was out of this world amazing. There were so many flavors surrounding the sandwich. It was one of the better sandwich Ive had in a while. The bread was perfect and the meat was marvelous. I very much enjoyed this for lunch. It came with chips too and they were delicious also. Overall I think I made the right choice in choosing this for lunch. We picked these up to go and everything still tasted great hours later. I am sold this place rocks!

They had me at tater tots! Decided to give this place a shot when I saw they had Tater Tot Poutines on the menu. I went for the Short Rib Poutine and was blown away at how delicious this was. One of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten! Definitely gotta order that. I also had the Pulled Pork Sandwich which was equally as good! They topped it with a fried egg & that could never be a bad thing! Customer Service here is also great. They were slammed & shorthanded but didn’t let it phase them. They were open & honest about it which was a pleasant surprise as there are so many options at the 4th Street Market. I chose to wait…& I’m glad I did. Definitely with the wait!

This place has good food and great service! I got the short rib sandwich which has cheese, bacon, and jalapeños… Holy guacamole, it was SO bomb!!! I thought the price point was a bit steep initially, but after seeing how much meat was stacked into my sandwich, I felt a little better. You have the option to sub the potato chips for tots for just $ 1 so I did that. The tots were pretty tasty. Perfectly crisp and not too salty. The service was also super nice and personable. The guy who took my order joked around with me and didn’t make the transaction feel cold like a lot of cashiers tend to do. He legit seemed like he liked working there, liked the food, and cared about the customer experience. I will most definitely back to try other items on their menu. I have my eye on the poutine tots and other sandwiches!

Wow. I am speechless. I ordered the grilled cheese and was amazed both at presentation and taste. It took a while to get but I found out the reason was due to them making FRESH potato chips. Honestly, they weren’t amazing but still delicious. The grilled cheese was seriously the star. So much cheese! Which I loved. I would definitely get it again!

We had the tater tot poutine with pulled pork and it was SOGOOD!!! The egg and pickled red onions were perfect accompaniments to the tots and sauce. Although I ate most of it, my husband and I did share it. It’s a good and easy dish to share. I wonder what their other menu items are like, but I feel I would be tempted to get this every time… We came here on a weekday during lunchtime. We did not have trouble finding an open metered spot on the street.

As I was walking through the 4th Street Market, browsing all the stands, Stockyard’s poutine tots caught my eye. I knew I had to try it when it stopped me dead in my tracks. So I asked my friend Dusty if he’d be down to share it with me and he was more than happy to try it. I ordered: — pulled pork poutine tots Pretty mouth watering tasty! The tator tots were nice and crispy. The pickled onions on top gave it a good kick. The over easy egg added a great eye pleasing serving. Friendly staff! I will definitely have to try their other stuff on the menu next time:)

Lock, STOCKYARD and barrel. I was having a bookmark night and this was my first to check off. Located in the newly hip and chic Santa Ana 4th Street Market… I know I’m as shocked as you are. Are several eateries and shops and this is one of them. The last time I was in this part of town I was clutching my hand bag and trying to get out before the sun set. So it goes without saying that parking is a premium. It would seem that whenever a part of city gets a facelift theses days it include having to pay for parking which I despise but I managed to take a breath and snag a spot not too far from away and it was FREE my fav F-word. I’d tell you my parking secret but then I have to kill you and I don’t think I’d look good in one of those orange jumpsuits that is all the prison rage. Webster defines Stockyard as a large yard containing pens and sheds, typically adjacent to a slaughterhouse, in which livestock is kept and sorted. So I KNEW without a doubt REDMEAT was served up here and I was all in for that. Sorry PETA. The menu is small but contains something for everyone. Pork and Short Rib Sands — For all you carnivores. Chicken — For those of you that like the other white meat. Tuna — For the pescatarian and Grilled Cheese — For you veggies lovers. If you are craving a little swine be sure to order the short rib or chicken sand because it comes with BACON and what doesn’t taste good with BACON?! I ordered the short rid sand which comes with BACON, pepperjack cheese, grilled onions and HOLD the jalapeño. I’m a wimp so I would not have been able to eat my sand. I also got the tater tot poutine and a bottled water. It wasn’t REALLY the poutine that I am used to but I got it with pulled pork and it comes with an over easy egg on top no gravy. My sand was prepared and ready in no time along with the poutine tater tots. I dove in teeth first and ooohhh-wwweee that short rib was BOMB-A-LICIOUS! It had the PREFECT amount of spice with the paper jack cheese. FIRCKIN finger lickin GOOD and NICE and JUICY! The tater tots were a bit hard and I was unimpressed. I usually love an over easy egg on food but the mixture of the pulled pork and the egg sort of turned my stomach so I took it home. The next day I thought I would eat it but it didn’t warm up the way I thought it would and I wasn’t impressed again. My bad! My eyes were MUCH bigger them my tum-tum. On the other hand the other half of my short rib sand was ONPOINT and made for a perfect din-din the next day. I will have to go back and try something else. Their sands are GOOD and FILLING!

This place is located in the 4th Street Market in Downtown Santa Ana. There is a parking plaza like one block down around where the Farmer’s Market usually is on Thursdays. I got the Short Rib Sandwich here, and it came with a few chips. The sandwich itself was okay, I liked that it had a more interesting flavor profile than most sandwich shops, but the price it came in at(around $ 10) was too much for what I got. In addition, it falls a little short of something that could taste much better. The flavor is something reminiscent of something I could find at Taqueria Tapatia, but it is just a bit milder, and costs a lot more. The chips were also okay only, they didn’t taste all that much better than a higher end chip bag. Overall, I would probably pass on this place in the future.

Stockyard Sandwich Company offers Short Rib Tater Tot Poutine. I really should have just finished the review with that tagline, it would have warranted a well earned ROTD in its own right. At any rate, The Stockyard Company is the brain child of Santa Ana native Phil Burden(previously of The Crosby and The Grilled Cheese Spot) and offers several inspired sandwich options along side the Poutine mentioned above and a «Naughty Totties» version featuring Carnitas. $ 8.00 and roughly 5 minutes later a container full of caloric love was bestowed upon me. How this Poutine purchased my soul: Perfectly fried and crispy Tater Tots form the base and than a smattering of cheese is strewn across the hot tots and begins to melt. Next, short rib that was first grilled and then braised for 4 hours(it is rumored they use Pepsi as the base of the braise) is added in a mound the size of a fist. This is about the time a large dollop of lavish gravy is drizzled over the lot of it and to ensure a keen umami experience, then they top the Poutine with a sunny side up egg. Pop the yolk and make sure it gets everywhere. It really doesn’t get much better than this, folks. I suppose I should throw in the expected direct comparison to The Kroft so here goes, Stockyard Sandwich Company trumps The Kroft for 2 key reasons: the use of tater tots in place of fries and the addition of an egg. Thank you Stockyard Sandwich Company for being simply amazing and thank you 4th Street mall for your existence.

While I still prefer the poutine from the Kroft over the one from Stockyard, it was still AMAZING, I thank anyone who offers it on their menu! Using tater tots instead of fries, also genius idea and being a lover of tots, it made me have to have it even more, though honestly I think they work better with fries. Adding an egg, also just adding more love to this meal, fantastic! The service also my favorite from all the vendors at 4th Street Market, a joy to chat with, obviously passionate about what he does, love! If you only eat at one place white at 4th St, have it be here, you can taste and see the love they put into every single dish, I will have to be back to try more of their goods next time, though those poutine fries will haunt me in my dreams till then.

Located inside the 4th Street Market, which opened up not too long ago. I ordered the tater tots poutine. $ 8 and I got some short rib as well. Came with a friend egg. The crunchiness of the tater tot made it that much better. It was so flavorful, and at the same time it wasn’t that greasy. I got a filling meal, and it was not to the point where it made you feel unhealthy. Definitely come give this place a shot.

If 4th Street Market is Santa Ana’s response to the Anaheim Packing District, then Stockyard is their response to the Kroft. Their prices and food seem similar(sandwiches and poutines), but I gotta give the edge to Kroft so 3.5 stars for Stockyard in my book. I only tried their braised short rib poutines($ 8) and while it was tasty, it was a bit pricey for the amount you get. The box was much smaller than the Kroft’s. Also, Stockyard uses tater tots instead of fries so for those who are expecting fries, you won’t find them here. I personally have no preference and actually appreciate the uniqueness. Overall, I can see myself trying this place out again if I’m visiting the 4th Street Market. Granted I only tried the poutines, but it was pretty good. I just thought that $ 8 was a bit much.
