Just don’t try the waffle, it was bread sour dough waffle!!! I couldn’t expect more from an airport!

Great service, excellent ceasar salad, and nice atmosphere. The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars is the price for a ceasar salad and iced tea plus tip came to $ 20.26.

We got the barbacoa nachos, turkey melt, and beef dip. They were all surprisingly good, especially for airport food. Beers were great and service was super fast and attentive. Overall not bad, I will come here again when I need to wait for a plane.

#117 What can I say about airport bar food? As much as I travel it is important for me to know a great spot to stop and garb a bite, a drink or just chill before my flight. Hobie San Bar has not disappointed me yet. After a trip of absolute gluttony in Mexico I was on my way back to the Bay and had a tiny lay over in Santa Ana. We had done nothing but eat and drink all weekend, but for some reason we thought, «Hey, another drink and some small bites would be great.» Answer: yes it was. We grabbed some tiny snacks and a few drinks while we waited on our flight. I have noticed that in most airports, the best food and drink is near the Southwest terminal. Our service was outstanding, and the food was tasty. Everything came in a timely manner, which is different from a lot of airport bars, so for this I was thankful. Stephani Smiles for Hobie San Bar ;)

In and out with a meal and glass of wine in 25 minutes, paid. Great place to unwind before flight. Pricey, but what airport vendor isn’t?

Decent place to sit down and have a drink or sandwich/appetizer if you are waiting fro SW flight(since there are no lounges there). I think the wait staff is now better than it used to be. Wine is served in 6 – 9 oz options(pricey but it is the airport) so you will spend about teh smae amount fro Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay 9oz glass as you woudl in teh store for a bottle but hey, if you are traveling especially for pleasure, it is worth it!

For an airport restaurant Hobie Sand Bar is pretty good. I usually hot Javier’s but today thought I’d try Hobie’s. Thin crust pizza was really good and Pam provided attentive service, light conversation and pleasant smile.

For being at the airport, it is decent food, and AWESOME customer service. The best choice at the airport you could make. Highly recommend if you need a quick bite, and the waitress was really nice :)

Located at John Wayne Airport this place has a pretty cool beach feel going and many of the seats allow for plane watching. Admittedly this was my second choice as I was hoping to get some cheap eats at Jerry’s Wood Fired Dogs but they have closed. Hobie’s has Goose Island on tap but it is $ 10 a pint. EEESH! Anyways, I did need to eat and they have sandwiches, pizza and salads. No burgers sadly and no fries. I went with the 1954. It is their version of a Cobb Salad. The salad was generous with the bacon and egg and it came with grilled chicken. It was pretty filling but pretty expensive($ 14.99). My recommendation is to go to boring old Subway if you need to eat at JWA.

This is really a bar that warms up food. If you want to drink, it’s great. If you want to eat, there are much better choices in the airport.

Lol. The food here is comically bad. I’d laugh but my mouth is too sad to. Got the egg platter. How is it possible to make scrambled eggs taste that bad?! I kept trying to douse it in hot sauce but dying it fluorescent red didn’t cover the fact that it was rubbery and offputtingly«ambient» temperature. It was like the kitchen scooped up day old eggs and put it on the platter. Then the egg muffins. I think they toasted it also a day or two ago. Soggy and cold but they look slightly charred. Potato wedges were slightly cold and soft and soggy. Sausage was sad. Everything was sad. I am sad. I suspect the kitchen made a giant batch of stuff and then proceeded to scoop out portions of food as orders came in onto plates, as nothing tasted fresh or warm. However. Portions are big(pictured is a half portion) and service was really nice.

Considering the alternatives this is probably your best choice for a real sitdown restaurant at the John Wayne airport. The food is very good even though the portions of modest but being in an airport restaurant the price is pretty high for what you get. Even though you are a captive audience the service is very good and they have a good understanding that since you’re at the airport prompt service is a necessity.

I stopped at Hobie for an early-morning gin and tonix at the John Wayne Airport Location. Brandon the bartender was friendly and attentive. Super chill guy. His drink was delicious and he did a good job upselling the Double shot for just $ 4 more. I took that deal. I told him i was headed to Mexico City for vacation and he mentioned that his buddies were just there. A little good bar conversation bug nothing intrusive or anything. Hes a good bartender and the place is a relaxing bar to chill at before your flight. Good music too.

Good beer, great barbacoa quesadilla. The waitress was super sweet, and between her and the kitchen, they got me a little off menu item. Great little spot!

This place was decent for airport food. Has a nice beachy vibe and food to match. My sister and I split the bbq chicken pizza. Which wasn’t a pizza, more like an open faced crispy quesadilla considering the pizza dough was actually a tortilla. Interesting, yet tasty. I don’t remember what else we ordered, but it was all good. And our waiter was very nice and attentive. I also ordered a Bloody Mary to help ease my flying anxiety. It took the edge off and was nice and spicy.

A nice place to grab a bite before/after your flight. Caesar salad has a slightly spicy dressing and is quite good. A nice departure from the fast food options.

Their sandwich was good, but I ordered beef nachos to go and they confirmed the order twice with me, and lo and behold on the airplane when I open the box, NOMEAT Extremely disappointed

One of the grosser meals in a long time. Turkey melt. Cheese not melted. Sad. Flavorless. Cheap Turkey. So bad I’m typing it while still sitting here. A first. Terrible even by airport restaurant standards. It should close. $ 15 for that sandwich.

Yikes, this place is pretty bad. Price gouging & indifference at its finest. Definitely one of the worst places to grab a bite at John Wayne Airport. It’s a small little side restaurant carved out of the niche behind the food court which are all owned by HMS Host, but there’s no effort placed into this restaurant besides the tacky décor. What happened here?! $ 12 Chicken tacos I ordered felt like they were microwaved, even Del Taco’s chicken soft tacos would of put them to shame. Beers are $ 10 or so. For an empty restaurant you’d figure being one of few patrons at the time, there might be more attention given to quickly boozing them up when a drink was requested. If I was paying out of pocket I’d feel pretty bad after walking out of this place. I’d highly recommend walking half a terminal over to Rudy’s instead for better food & better service if you must eat at the airport. Least the food is decent over there.
