I was referred to Caspian Physical Therapy last year after breaking my shoulder in a bad fall. I had been running in the Dana Point Turkey Trot 10k and got twisted up with another runner on a particularly narrow part of the course and then subsequently tripped over a cone when I tried to avoid colliding with the other girl. It was not a pretty sight, and I’m sure the other runners around me were traumatized by the blood-curdling scream I let out. Anyway, after wearing my arm in a sling for six weeks, I was sent to Caspian to work out the loss of mobility I suffered. Unfortunately, it was a complete waste of time. The facility isn’t very nice and there wasn’t much privacy. I felt like I was in a county hospital or something since all there was separating me from the other patients was a sliding curtain and I could hear the other patients’ conversations with the PT, which was a little odd. Then the massage table was in a tiny room the size of a closet, and the masseuse kept the door open, allowing all the noise and talking from the waiting room and restroom to enter the room. Needless to say, it was not very relaxing, which would be okay, accept that it wasn’t therapeutic either. The masseuse didn’t seem to know what she was doing at all. I was hardly given any exercises to work on at home, and I didn’t feel that coming to Caspian was helping with my rehabilitation. In addition, the staff at the reception desk didn’t give receipts for payments, so I was never able to get the office visits reimbursed under my Flexible Spending Account. I finally got fed up and called my doctor to get a referral to a different physical therapist. I have a feeling Caspian mostly deals with people without insurance and Worker’s Compensation cases.
