Julio is one of the kindest, friendliest, most helpful shop owners you will encounter on S. Grand or anywhere. They have nice stuff typical of what you find at Plowsharing Crafts or other fair trade shops but the service is just outstanding. Lovely place to get gifts.

I live off South Grand so I was excited to see a new shop opening last Fall. I walked by with my dogs a few times and peered in the window, but the dogs kept me from going inside. When I finally left the dogs at home and went inside, I was really glad that I did. A quick glance in the window does not do Zee Bee Market justice. They have so many different items: from Fair Trade chocolate bars(delicious, by the way) to tablet cases to jewelry to beautiful handmade greeting cards. Actually, everything in the store is handmade, not just the greeting cards. The store’s variety and prices make it a good place for buying gifts. You can buy someone something beautiful and unique for $ 25 to $ 30, or even cheaper if you’re just looking for chocolates, coffee, or greeting cards. I bought my sister-in-law a decorative earring holder and my husband bought me a handmade salad bowl with matching salad tongs. You can also always buy yourself a gift: I bought a beautiful coin purse for when I don’t have room for a big wallet and my mom bought herself some eye catching red earrings. The owner of Zee Bee’s Market is a really nice man who’s invested in the St. Louis community and he gave me a lot of information about Fair Trade items. You can tell how passionate he is about Fair Trade and he seems very happy to explain it to customers. I had heard of Fair Trade, but I am really glad that I learned more about it. Fair Trade items are great in so many ways. The first and most obvious way is that the farmers and artisans who make Fair Trade goods are paid a living wage for their items. Another great thing about Fair Trade items is that the workers’ wages allow for environmentally sustainable growth so farmers don’t have to choose between feeding their families and protecting the planet. Fair Trade Federation members work to end exploitative child labor and to help women receive equal pay for equal work. I highly recommend reading the Fair Trade Federation’s Nine Fair Trade Principles at . Or, better yet, go check out Zee Bee Market and ask the owner or workers to explain what makes Fair Trade items so special.

There is a reason why Zee Bee Market was voted best gift store in St. Louis! All of the items are very trendy and unique. It was hard to restrain myself from buying everything knowing that these items are handmade and help improve communities. I purchased a woven key lanyard and an ID holder and have received so many compliments on the beautiful patterns and style. In addition to the vast array of products, the customer service is remarkable! The store has such a warm and welcoming environment that makes you want to spend hours there. Best place to buy stylish gifts(for others and yourself)!

Coming home shortly before the holidays meant that I had to do some crazy hurried yet thoughtful gift-shopping. I was pretty bummed that Collective Mx had just closed because that was going to be my solution of how to get multiple different gifts in one spot. A friend and I had just had lunch at Baida, and we had just picked up take-out from Meskerem(I know, we’re such pigs) when we noticed the Zee Bee Market near the Bali store. Opened since early November 2014, Zee Bee prides itself on a ethical, fair trade, hand made and unique gift store with products in home décor, clothing, accessories, and art, amongst other things. It is a thoughtful layout with many different kinds of items. I loved the well made and thick canvas purses that they had along with the delicate earrings. Stationary from the Philippines. Carved wood from Kenya. Alpaca angora scarves. They also have coffee from La Cosecha. Locally owned and although they do show up at different fairs and farmers markets, it’s a great place to stop by and browse… and pick up a gift for a friend or two. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 to 8, Sunday 11 to 5, closed Monday.
