Sportsman is the family answer when the question of what’s for lunch/diner comes up and everybody just kind of shrugs or can’t agree on anything else, or when a quick meal is needed, or when nobody feels up for cooking, or really just because. I pretty much end up here on every trip to visit my parents. It’s good food, good service and close to the house. I am a big fan of the turkey burger here which is just fantastic and has way more flavor than most turkey burgers I have had, every once in awhile it’s a bit dry but a pickle or two on the top makes up for that. While on the subject of turkey don’t sleep on the turkey chili here which is a nice hearty chili and great with the cheese and onions added. The Chinese chicken salad is a family favorite as it’s a big filling salad with all the classic flavors you expect in this kind of salad. The half salad and chili is a great little meal. I personally like the wings that are nice and crispy and as a blue cheese with my wings guy the house-made version just kicks things up a notch. For a small place they have a solid drink selection and I have noticed a larger craft presence showing up on the taps not to mention your other typical bar fair. A nice beer and a good burger pair well.

Gotta say they make an awesome burger here and their house salad dressing is sooo good! The only thing I wasn’t wild about was their house-made potato chips. They tasted kind of burned and they were not crisp. Some of them were hard to chew, kind of tough. The service is outstanding, though. One problem with the layout of this place… tables are very close together. I felt like I could almost reach over and grab a fry off the plate of the guy sitting at the table next to me. All in all, we will probably go back for the burgers! Oh, and Baskin Robbins is right across the street, so what’s not to like, right?

What a great place. Friendly people, great staff, and good food. Great happy hour specials if you’d prefer to chill and avoid the rush hour traffic. The locals are very friendly and its not hard to feel like one of the gang. I’ve met several clients there for an informal discussion and its always been a good experience. It’s just a quick hop off the highway and a great central location from Clayton, west county, etc. avoid the rush and belly up to the bar for some friendly conversation with some nice people and a few characters.

Love this place been going here forever but for goodness sakes get rid of the cold cucumber and bring back the French onion soup! Have heard many people saying how badly they want the French onion soup back!

I’ve been going to Sportsmans on a monthly basis for about 10 years now. Best sandwich is Ricky’s chicken. Best side is tater tots with ranch. Their pizza is fantastic, thin crust, St. Louis style. They have a good draft beer selection. Their turkey chili is famous among my wife’s friends. Definitely recommend that with cheese and onions.

I was just passing through, but it seems like a nice local watering hole. I was actually hoping to grab some food here, but the kitchen closed at 10PM so I ended up just drinking my dinner in beers. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my short stay.

Sportsmans is a great restaurant to go to if you like sports, but I think it’s too casual. The food is delicious, the burgers and curly fries are fantastic and the chili is to die for. If you like ice cream, Sportsmans is convenient because Baskin Robbins is right next door.

Great bar food with great service. Definitely one of the best burger-n-fries total package that I’ve ever had in St.Louis. I always get the plain burger to compare it to other burgers on the first go-round and this one is top notch. Lots of meat, toasted, buttered buns, and they all come with tomato-onion-lettuce-pickles(even the«nude» or plain burger). The curly fries were good but I’d probably try the steak fries next time… Portions were good. Not extravagant but they don’t need to be(we’re talking about fries here…). Not super great for small kids due to the tiny dining room. This would be the perfect place to grab a burger after a round of golf or to take an out-of-town friend to a «local joint.»

I’ve always loved this place. I usually get the cheeseburger but I have never heard someone complain about their food. The place has been around a long time, and the inside is «cozy» from table to table. One thing I have never understood… While they have two seat tables, and you go in single or a second person, they will always try to seat you at the large/shared bench that is meant for larger parties. No problem though… The beer is cold and the servers are cool.

I would move to St. Louis, if only for the turkey chili! Great tavern vibe with amazing burgers — and did I mention the chili?!? It is to die for! This is becoming a regular stop on my travels to St. Louis.

It is hard to believe all the years I worked at Plaza Frontenac and would stop by Sportsman’s Park for Happy Hour, that I never ate any food. How could this have happened is beyond me. The other day I finally got that corrected when I meet up with fellow Unilocaler extraordinaire Sarah S. When enjoying bar grub I usually like to enjoy an order of chicken wings, before my burger with my dining partner. However, with Ms. Sarah being vegetarian that was not an option. So I had to decide what did I wanted more, chicken wings and fries or a Jack Buck Burger with fries. With all the memorabilia of Jack Buck on the walls, it was a no brain-er, I went with the burger. The burger was char grilled juicy and to my perfect temperature, medium. As my side I choose«steak fries», I love a thick and meaty french fry. My burger was seasoned so perfectly, I had no need to add any condiments at all. The dill pickle sliced lengthwise was the only garnishment in addition to the«Monterrey Jack» cheese. I was a couple of orders of wings go past our table and I’ll be returning to give them a try in the near future. Sarah enjoyed some type of vegetarian wrap(you can read her review to see how tasty it was) that was huge. It was so huge, she could only eat half and took the other half home in a non-eco friendly container. Styrofoam? Come on SPR, you’re classier then that, get with it and provide your customers with an eco-friendly container for carry-out. Your lucky I didn’t dock you a star, but my burger was too juicy good so I left you at 4. The service was attentive and as the small dining room filled up with the bustling Ladue lunch crowd it did get LOUD. The sports memorabilia alone is worth stopping by for a beer and a browse.

Definitely one of my favorite watering holes. This place has been around for decades. I believe it was originally called the Ladue Inn and then Jackie’s Place beginning back in the ’70’s. I’ve turned other foodies onto the grouper sandwich which I prefer broiled w/lemon pepper(also available blackened). Fantastic! Regulars sit, eat, imbibe and watch the game du jour at the bar where you will always strike up a conversation with an interesting person. The main dining room has plenty of TV’s as well.

I’ve been going to Sportsman’s Park since I was a kid. It’s a great quaint neighborhood spot with good people and good food. The service isn’t always top notch(but it’s always packed). I always get the buffalo chicken wrap and the pub chips. Yum. The bison burger is great too. Good for catching some St. Louis sports over a beer.

After working in Ladue for almost 2 years I finally decided to check this place out for lunch one day with the girls from work. The building itself was a bit of a turn off at first, but once inside I noticed that it wasn’t that bad. We arrived a few minutes after noon on a Saturday and were seated right away. The one thing I will say is that this place is tiny. I mean seriously, I think there are too many tables and chairs in the main dining room-it was like a maze just to get to the table. We also had to move to the side while another group was leaving. I believe there should be a «one way» sign. Anyways, we were seated and our server came over right away to bring us all water. We reviewed the menu and it was just like your typical sports-bar; wings, potato skins, fried foods, sandwiches-nothing fancy. We had a wide variety of food brought to our table. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich after recommendation of one of my dining partners. I am usually afraid that the chicken will be dry, but I was assured it was not. Indeed, the chicken was actually juicy and flavorful. I also decided to order«meaty fries»…I believe the correct name for them is actually steak fries. Overall, the place was quaint, the service was good, the food came out quickly, and the price was just right. I would go back-not sure when, but maybe one day for a Patriots game!!! I can see myself throwing back a few beers at this place and getting rowdy with the other patrons.

I had a nice lunch at Sportsman’s Park with a former co-worker a few weeks ago. I like to stay connected to my past career and use this as an opportunity to try some of the lunch places in and around Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights. On this occasion he suggested Sportsman’s Park in Ladue, being familiar with it. I ordered a Reuben and he had half a Cobb Salad. The salad looked to be a good standard effort, but obviously I did not sample it across the table. My Reuben was perfectly acceptable and I regretted that when I left, I forgot to take my leftover half home. The sandwich was good sized and nicely dressed, but I just did not need it all for lunch. Prices are reasonable. The place has a good neighborhood sports bar atmosphere and was pretty busy with its lunch crowd. I would go back for lunch, perhaps with Ms T when we are out running errands in the area. Remember three stars in A-OK.

This is a totally cute little sports bar in Ladue of all places! It kind of has that same vibe as Syberg’s only it’s about 50 times smaller, which is okay, but I don’t wanna see the place when it’s slammed! They have sports memoriabilia all over the walls including a rather large, signed, Pujol’s poster(LOL.) Sean H. took me here since he really enjoys their fried chicken sandwich. It was really good, I will concur. It’s basically breaded chicken strips on toasted bread with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and some kind of special sauce. There might have been onions too but I don’t recall. I like his sandwich wayyy better than the sliders I had. They were good but I felt like they were too meaty and the meat was almost a little dry in the middle plus they had almost a smoked kind of aftertaste which I am not a huuuge fan of. I got pretty ill immediately after eating here but I really do suspect that it was from going to the Don Q Rum Off earlier in the day at Blood and Sand. Too much weird combos of alcohol in my tummy + pork sliders from earlier. You think I’d have learned my lesson by now? Still made me paranoid but that’s just me. Sean was fine after eating the chicken sandwich and we both ate that so yeah. Maybe my tummy is just über weak when it comes to greasy foods. :-( I would definitely return to Sportsman’s Park. It’s one of those great restaurants with cheap but really filling food, a decent selection of booze, and weekly specials to boot! Plus it’s great for when you just can’t decide on a place that both you and your picky boyfriend will enjoy. You know you’ll both like Sportsman’s Park so why not just go there? I love the smallness/coziness of it and how it’s not loud, crazy, and wild like Syberg’s. Plus it’s CLEAN… oh man, cleanliness is next to godliness in my book so clearly I dig on this place. Didn’t see the bathroom yet though so maybe I should check that out next time I come. Oh and service was great! There will definitely be a next time!

Went to lunch at Sportsman’s Park yesterday thanks to a gift certificate I won at work. I hadn’t been there in about 3 years, and all I remembered were large portions, an awesome veggie wrap, and it being small. All three things still were true during this recent visit. I ordered the veggie(avocado ranch) wrap, which is lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, swiss cheese, cucumbers and ranch in a spinach wrap. DELICIOUS! It was so good, with homemade dressing and chunks of avocado and cheese. The wrap was really fresh, unlike some tortillas in other places. Came with a choice of side. I got the curly seasoned fries, which were decent. A bigger portion than I cared to eat, so I shared. Service was good — which it has to be, cuz this place is SMALL. It can get a little crowded and the chairs are close together. Easy to see TVs from every angle, however. Definitely has a «good ol’ boy» Ladue network who frequents — seems like many people there knew each other. We also saw a very well known sports figure there. Next time, I’ll probably get some carry out!
