The best Greek food in town. Service is top notch. This is one of those venerable restaurants that people forget about in the rush to try the latest new thing. What you get here is a menu with all the Greek favorites, beautifully prepared, plus a daily special and a variety of other choices.

A must visit place in St Louis. The true feeling of a family owned business is here. And the true Eastern European food is something to die for

I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. It is a great meal for the cost and the amenities are great. Good service and good recall. Everyone is always friendly when you come in. My favorite on the menu is the Liver and Onions, some people don’t like it but there’s is the best.

We entered the door… in very casual clothing… the owner welcomed us, hung our coats, and let us know how happy he was that we were dining there. Excellent service, awesome pepper corn tenderloin, yummy gyro, delicious smelt, crunchy, fresh salad and a nice selection of wines. We hadn’t been here in years and thought we would give it a try again. We definitely will be back!

Very good place for Greek and they have another location closer to the airport. Each time I’ve been, I had one of their combination plates. It is a great way to sample greek cuisine especially if you aren’t from a city so blessed with greek food. Somehow I actually haven’t tried my favorite dish gyro salad, but there are enough other greek places that when I come here, I try to enjoy the full menu. We always have to get their saganaki and theirs is one of the best. Baklava and the other desserts have been wonderful. They have greek beer and a larger party room. The owner and his sister are very gracious hosts, I hope you get a chance to meet them! This is a full greek restaurant and an excellent place for a fine dining experience with reasonable prices.

Excellent meal. Great service. Wonderful experience! I’ve been to this restaurant several times and the food and service has always been consistent. I had the chicken Spedini, the spanokopita, pastichio, and several other Greek items on the menu and they’ve always been delicious. Serve hot, flavorful, and generous portions. Would recommend this restaurant without reservation.

Watson & Arsenal, Part 1: I had the opportunity to dine at this intersection two successive gray and rainy weeknights. As it worked out, I ordered a similar dish at each restaurant. Here, «Chicken Spedini» was«pounded chicken rolled in seasoned bread crumbs, char grilled then basted in olive oil, fresh garlic and lemon,» three pieces that together may have made up one small breast, with what I believe was a small twice-baked potato, and asparagus/carrots. The glass of chardonnay was good($ 7). Service was two-star, ambience three-star, and the warm bread and butter that came out before the meal was 4-star very good. I wouldn’t object to going back, but probably wouldn’t suggest it to others, either.

We had our rehearsal dinner at Spiro’s in 2007. Nikki was beyond kind. We go back frequently, usually at lunch due to our schedules. The salads are fresh, crisp, just made. The Greek fries are amazing and we could make a meal out of them. The hummus-oh my gosh-thinking about it makes me drool. Everything is delicious, the service is attentive and friendly. Lots of regulars here, with good reason. The last time we visited I had the avgolemono soup and plan to have it all of the time now-delicious and cured a cold too :-)

A big thank you to Livingsocial for introducing me to Spiro’s in the Lindenwood neighborhood. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I will. I live in the Lindenwood neighborhood, I am The Baron here on Unilocal and I have never enjoyed the Greek cuisine at Spiro’s. When I saw the Livingsocial coupon, I jumped on the opportunity to have a lunch at Spiro’s. The day we lunched was late, we got there about 1:30PM and there was only one other table. However, in the back party room they were serving a large funeral lunch. Even with the large banquet going on, our service was attentive. What would a lunch or dinner at a Greek restaurant be without an order of Saganaki? Enjoying Flaming Cheese is part of the experience. OPA! They flash fried the Kassen Cheese right at the table and it was the perfect accompaniment to the fresh bread. We also shared another popular Greek appetizer, Dolma. A large grape vine leaf stuffed with rice, ground beef and lamb then top with egg lemon sauce. Both were very flavorful and will be enjoyed again. The SO enjoyed a large Athenian Greek Salad, with slices of rotisserie lamb on top. These salad is defiantly large and could be shared by two who can also share an appetizer or two. Momma always told me a good boy shares. I enjoyed a Gyro Sandwich, which was very very good. Yes, I meant to do a double very very, it was that good. It was the most tender and flavorful rotisseries lamb I have had in a Gyro. As with all Gyro’s, it was served in a pita bread and garnished with fresh tomatoes, onion and tzatsiki sauce. As a side dish they served up thinly sliced potatoes that were fried with a crispy shell and a hot moist meaty inside. We were so stuffed, we could not try their Baklava, but we are looking forward to that experience on our next visit.

My family had the gyro, dinner option 1&2(included lamb, dolmas, & greek lasagna), the Greek national soup, a side, dessert and wine. Everything was delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was old school but very charming! My sister says its never packed & she DOESN’T understand why because it is so good and authentic. It is the perfect place for a quiet family dinner or intimate date. Also good for large parties since they have so much open space.

I tried some of the saganaki, hummus, house salad, and gyros. The saganaki was amazing. The hummus was pretty great. If you like creamier Greek dressing the salad is for you, but I prefer vinegar and oil with the cheese on top. The gyros were okay. I mostly ate the side and the pita with the dressing because the meat was just a little too… dry or something. I would have been happy with twice as much sauce. Everyone else seemed happy with their selections. The hostess was really sweet, but our waiter was really awkward. Pros: appetizers, wine selection Neutral: service Cons: price

As Sarah S. points out, this place has a very good tableside created Greek salad. Plus, over half the tables that were there ordered the Saganaki for the flaming presentation. This weekend I tried combination #2 which consisted of a couple of pieces of lamb, dolmates, and mousaka. The lamb was tender and seasoned nicely, the dolmates were ok, the mousaka was very nice. It has a very airy whipped yet creamy topping. Wine selection is pretty good, with bottles ranging from $ 24-$ 70. This place is old school… white tablecloths and dated décor. But the service is always good, and the food is never bad. It’s a good run of the mill average Greek restaurant.

Ms T and I were discussing how many restaurants we have been to more than three times in the St Louis area in the last 17 years. It is a short list and on that list is Spiro’s in West County. So when there was a coupon offer for Spiro’s South, we latched on to it. There is really no reason for us to drive in to Hampton/Watson for Spiros, but with our coupon, we headed in. We decided during our drive that we would get fried calamari as always and limit our appetizers to that. We(I) tend to want a bunch of appetizers and we are full before the main course arrives. So we heard the specials from our 12-year-old waiter and settled for hummus and pita bread to open. I am absolutely no hummus expert. This was pretty garlicky, which I assume is the excuse for eating hummus in the first place. It was topped with calamata olives which really made it for me. We also split a small Athenian salad which was fine, with a creamy dressing. I talked Ms T into ordering Shrimp Saganaki and it was not up to expectations. The shrimp were of poor quality meaning no shrimp flavor. We get much better shrimp at Bob’s Seafood anytime we want, to cook at home. It is supposed to be charbroiled and there was no evidence of that. It is supposed to be flamed at the table and it was not. It had too much bread crumb coating which I thought was odd for a charbroiled seafood dish anyway. I liked the lemon, white wine reduction for its gentle tanginess, but Ms T was unimpressed. For her the best part of the dish was the twice baked potato. This just did not live up to the description. I had a Greek combination with a grilled lamb chop, mousaka and dolmades. The chop was good, prepared to my medium rare taste and seasoned with oregano. I loved the dolmades which had a nice lemony tanginess and good textures. The mousaka was just OK. Flavors were not as deep and developed as they could be and the ground beef was chewy. The beef needs to be steamed tender before assembly. What I did like was that it was not buried under a mountain of béchamel. These were served with steamed vegetables. I was satisfied with my meal. Not the restaurant’s fault but we were treated to a too-loud, painfully detailed recounting of some pompous college kid’s recent visit to Madagascar or some such place. It was hard to have a conversation between us because this monologue kept intruding, like when the guy behind you on a plane talks above the engine noise for the entire flight. While I would think there should be no reason for significant differences between Spiro’s locations, I definitely prefer the one in West County. The last time there, we were greeted like family by a gentleman who, if he was not the owner, at least acted like one. The service was very professional. It is a little nicer atmosphere and I’m sure we liked our food better as well. However, Spiro’s South is fine and it is really a matter of which is a closer drive.

Delicious Comfort Food! We came here after being exhausted after taking a test. We ordered the Spanakopita, the lamb combo plate(with moussaka etc) and a creamy pasta. Everything was a bit pricey(but we had a Groupon so it cancelled it out). It was delicious and a really good food experience! Our waiter was nice enough to help us figure out if Ted Drewes was open. My boyfriend’s lamb chops and moussaka were really good and my pasta really hit the spot. We left full and happy(but with no dessert because we went to Ted Drewes afterwards).

We were getting ready for Brew Crew Tour Jan 2011 and needed a solid meal to start us off right. Groupon in hand we headed southwest from Lafayette Square. Its amazing how different the neighborhoods of the city are. Each one with its own characteristics. Spiro’s definitely delivered. The food may have been just a little lacking, but it was made up for on the service end a million times over. The greeting at the door, by whom we would learn was the owner, to the numerous, and not over bearing, checkins, won us over! The server, the owners son, while young and perhaps just a little nervous(and who wouldn’t be when serving the two ladies I was with) did an awesome job, coupled with the bus boy’s efforts. The bottom of a water glass was rarely seen(I was thirsty). He definitely sold me on the Greek beer Aris. Its a light beer, definitely different than others. Our bread basket came quickly as did our appetizer of Saganaki. Our first time in an authentic Greek restaurant, we wanted the OOMPAS! FORTHEFOOD: The pastichio, which was the main draw for me purchasing the Groupon was the main disappointment in our experience. It just didn’t compare to Assumption Church’s(Greek church Friday luncheon out on 270 by Manchester Rd). I understand this is a family recipe, the way they have been doing things, people have been eating it and coming back for it. It just didn’t meet our expectations, maybe just a little dry. The Dolmades also weren’t exactly my cup of tea. While tasty, I would have rather had them with a red sauce or something with a little more zing to it. Molly said her chicken was enjoyable, but also missing that zing factor. All the entrees were served with some standard steamed veggies. I understand not wanting to take away from the main dish, but it kind of needed it. Should I have played it safe and ordered hummus, a gyro plate, and a Greek salad? Perhaps. But I wanted to step out of the comfort zone a little. After reading a previous review I may have to go back for that salad, which they mix tableside. Thank you Spiro’s for readying me for the night to come.

Meh. I really wanted to like Spiro’s as it’s in the area and such, but it just didn’t «wow» me. We visited on a Friday night, when usually any restaurant — especially near The Hill vicinity — is packed. Spiro’s had literally four other tables of people this evening. It was very, very quiet. not even any background music playing to set some form of mood, etc… It was almost oddly uncomfortable. I will say that the waiter was quite accommodating(albeit a bit weird) and they had bus boys and other staff who are attentive to your table(but then again, they literally outnumbered the patrons on this night). The food was… OK. For the prices, not nearly something I’d go out of my way to do again. I ordered one of the combos which came with the Pactichio, the Dolmades and Mousaka($ 14.75), and felt that in it’s sum, was rather bland. I mean. bland at these prices. The Pactichio in particular was a bit dry and didn’t come out as if it were freshly made/prepared, and if I had to guess, I’d have confidently wagered was reheated in a microwave. Not good at all. I can nuke leftovers at home, thanks. The little lady had a plate which included the lamb, and I will say it(the lamb) was very good. Great flavor, and certainly fresh. Only reason for this being very close to a third star. Maybe I’ll go back sometime down the road and try something else, but in the meantime Spiro’s just didn’t do much for me at all.

Bottom Line: Decent food. Respectful staff. Great atmosphere. This was my first time to the Spiro’s South location. If you are looking for a nice place to have a quiet meal, I wholeheartedly recommend you consider coming here. Food: I ordered the Moussaka. It came with a couple stalks of broccoli. The Moussaka was good, but not amazing. It was interesting that they put zucchini in this dish; this was new to me and a nice touch. I guess there wasn’t any flavors here that wow’d me. Plus, it just didn’t seem fantastically fresh, as I was hoping. Maybe I expected more for $ 13. For dessert, I had baklava. I was pleased that they warmed the baklava. Also, it didn’t appear that they just poured karo syrup on their version, which is always a big upset for me. Plenty of nuts filled this baklava, but I was also looking for more of the good stuff you usually find on the inside. I don’t know exactly what it is called, but this version just seemed to be missing it. Atmosphere: You should really dress up when you go here. Don’t do what I did and go in shorts and shirt. I was welcomed in all the same, but I just had wished I dressed up for the place. Low lighting, well-dressed wait staff and seemed very clean. Bonus: If you enjoy beer, purchase a bottle of Aris Greek Beer. It is very good, light beer. Thanks to the waiter, Billy, for recommending it. Question Mark: I found it unusual that my plate was warmed on a burner before serving the dish to me. I suspect that since the dish was probably warmed prior to serving, they just wanted to be sure to keep the dish warm while I partook of the meal.

Spiro’s has THEBEST Greek salad ever. Also a huge favorite: saganaki(flaming cheese). Nothing more delicious — it’s a whole meal for me. The bread is also divine. We go here for special occasions several times a year and the service is consistently great and the service attentive. The only downside is the smoking section(ick) so sit far away!
