The first time i came here the food was amazing! However… I’ve tried to come here another two times now with large groups of people and they were closed. During normal business hours too. I’m not sure if they have winter hours I’m unaware of but it’s always a major let down when I get there and find out at 630 they’re not open.

We were in St Louis on our way to Nashville and were lucky enough to find Sassy Jacs before we left. The shrimp appetizer and the grouper sandwish were above average but the crawfish and four cheese pasta was Amazing. The owner, Andrew, came out and chatted with us for a bit and made the experience even more memorable. We will be making Jacs a must stop every time we go thru St Louis

Last minute decision for lunch and turned out to be a great choice. Good vibe with a bar feel that turns out to be a great restaurant. The menu is pretty eclectic with some choices I can’t wait to go back and try. We had the chips with blue cheese and salsa for an app. The combination seems strange but worked beautifully with the fresh salsa, hand made potato chips and blue cheese dip. Tried two entrees the tuna tacos and the grilled chicken with Cajun sausage. Both were very good though I thought the tacos were just a bit better. The tacos had four perfectly sized small«street» style tacos with enough heat from the salsa offset by the creamy slaw. Beer selection was also good with a varied selection. You can’t go wrong from what we’ve sampled — definitely will be back.

BETTERTHANANNIEGUNNS Every time I host guests from out of town, I take them to Sassy Jac’s. I always order the Crawfish Critters as an appetizer(4 fried critters) and they WOW every time! I highly recommend the Grouper Sandwich– blackened. It’s a perfect combination of sauce and spice. The Monte Cristo is perfect if I’m in the mood for something sweet and comforting. And the Tuna Tacos are always fantastic and have a great kick(a fantastic lighter option). Also, the Hot Brown is a seasonal dish that I always look forward to in the warmer months. It’s turkey and potatoes with gravy. Feels like home! If you are looking for incredible food that is reasonably priced, look no further. Frankly, they should charge more!

In my 47 years and hundreds of restaurants I’ve never had the owner come out and speak so passionately about his business and craft. This is a one of a kind establishment. Awesome food awesome service I can’t wait to come back! One tip please loose the baskets food of this quality needs to be served on a real plate.

Garlic fries are delicious and addictive. I’ve never paid $ 6 for fries, BUT the portion was huge. You can share them between 2 – 3 people for sure. Also had the cajun spiced wings. They were really crispy. The chicken itself was a little bland. I didn’t really taste the cajun spice, but the sauce made up for it. Husband had some seafood pasta. That was really good. Our server was super attentive and nice. She was the only server, but she checked on us regularly and kept our drinks filled. I definitely want to go back even if it’s just for those fries and some drinks!

Had the best blackened fish in a loooonnnnng time here at Sassy Jac’s. On Fridays, there’s the tilapia special if you’re looking for something cheaper than the typical grouper on the regular menu. You really can’t go wrong with the fries. The menu changes from time to time but you can rest assured that it’s going to be pretty tasty. The next time I’m around I’m going to have to check out the corned beef tongue. Who knew St. Louis would now have multiple places where you can get that now?! Oh… right… and the fries are amazing.

I came to Sassy’s today while I was waiting for a friend. I had never been to this place. I sat at the bar where I was greeted by one of the top ten most friendly bartenders. The eer selection was great for the smallest restaurant. I didn’t eat here though by the crowd of regulars and the menu i had a chance to read in detail, I will cetertainly be back. The guy next to me had the best smelling garlic fries and burger. He let me try a fry, not so much on the burger. Don’t blame him I wouldn’t have shared either! Can’t wait to come here for a meal!

I cant believe I have waited this long to write a review! UGH! Shame shame on me!!! :( This place is SO amazing– and what a little gem!!! It can easily be missed without knowing the greatness thats inside, but hey thats what Unilocal is for! right? I’ve been wanting to back ever since we left! and Its about that time! We started off with the crawfish fritters– and they were perfect! The best taste, the sauce was awesome– and just the right amount, DH had the tongue sandwich, and said it was the best he ever had! I was feeling spontaneous and I even tried it! It was indeed really really really good— I mean– it was my first time, but thats definitely the place I’d want my first time to be! He also loved the creamed cord as he side– If I am being honest — - I believe I ordered the tuna tacos— best I’ve ever had there in that category too – ! Seriously– what a great little place! I’ve bee meaning to write my review forever now, and I really am sad that I am just now getting around to it– I am sorry :( But its here NOW, and that all that matters– Next time you’re in Soulard– check this place out– By far the best food in the area— not even kidding. We are going to make it back in for lunch soon, and I cant wait to try something new!

Went here for happy hour with a friend and I was pleased to find out that they had four dollar glasses of wine until 7pm. This is wonderful. The ambiance was super cute and felt very cozy. I wasn’t particularly interested in any of the food but it just wasn’t my style of food. I would love to try a sandwich for lunch sometime here. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. I will definitely be going back to this sweet neighborhood spot!

Super laid back vibe. Extensive wine choices. Interesting food selection.(frog legs, no thank you.) Our waitress was very attentive and quickly replenished our table with wine once we finished our first glass. The house Merlot is lovely, way easy to drink, and only $ 4 for happy hour(4 – 7). It’s a sweet neighborhood spot that I’ll be visiting again soon.

I actually have not had anything but their fish tacos and garlic fries — mostly because they are SOAMAZING! I can’t seem to get anything else there. Three yummy ahi tuna tacos with a side of chips, though i always replace with the garlic fries. I also usually tell myself I’m not going to eat it all and ALWAYS do. Just too delicious to not check out for yourself. Fast, friendly service — great location and a place you should definitely check out.

We came here as a large party(approx 15) for a birthday party. We called ahead and were told the tables would be ready. We arrived and sadly nothing was ready, so we manually started pushing tables/chairs together ourselves. The limited restaurant staff was clearly overwhelmed by the sight of us, and we waited approximately 15 – 20 minutes before anybody greeted us/brought us menus/attempted drink orders. In fact, while we were sitting and waiting to be greeted, small parties came into the restaurant and their orders were taken before us. It was all very odd. This is not to say that the food is bad. It’s actually quite good for bar food. We tried the: Ahi fish tacos– reliable seared tuna, flavorful, large portion(3 tacos) served with crispy fries Blackened grouper sandwich– also a good choice, served with fries, solid portion Étouffée– I’m a huge fan of cajun cuisine, and I’ve eaten étouffée countless times. This dish was where the food fell short– it just wasn’t étouffée. Super thick and red, it looked more like pure tomato paste and a small amount of vegetables and shrimp tossed in. I would definitely try the food again if I were in Soulard, and if I were not dining with a large party. This is probably one of the better food options in the area. [Bogarts will always be the best!]

nom nom nom nom nom. Our Valentine’s Day plans froze over faster than the ice last night. My husband and I didn’t know what to do. Surely, every restaurant was going to be packed. We tried our luck at Sassy Jacs. Most of the tables were reserved for those who had plans not deterred from the ice but they had a high-top bar table for us. We had the Valentine entrée specials. Oh em gee. The bass(at a bar??) was so flavorful and the potatoes that came with the steak were melt in your mouth. I can’t wait to go back and take others with me.

Some of the best, if the the best, food in Soulard. Sassy Jacs is an unassuming bar that blends in well with the neighborhood. Perhaps that is why i am many others seem to just now be discovering that it has some really great food. I’ve tried the wings, fish tacos, the surf n swine, the greens and the creamed corn and it was all pretty great. I’ve been for dinner several times and it always seems to be semi-crowded but not full enough that i’ve had to wait. Definitely put this one on your radar if you are in Soulard and want some quality comforting food!

Last night I went to Sassy Jac’s with a few friends for an SRG Holiday Party and had such a great experience! Kristen was a great bartender/server to our large party and Andrew made the most amazing meals for us! We arrived around 7pm for our reservations.(In case you’re interested they use Open Table for reservations. If you haven’t ever used that site, you should check it out because it’s awesome.) Anyway, when we arrived our table was already set up and ready to go with menus and water! Our group started the night off by ordering a round of drinks and mingling. We looked over the menu and when Kristen came to take our order we were all excited to try the new items listed. Sassy Jac’s does change their menu often in order to keep their items fresh with the local market up the street. By the time our food came out we were all excited to eat and the presentation on each plate was great-Andrew did great! About halfway through the meal he came out to chat with us and to make sure the food was good. I liked that he came out from the kitchen to talk with us. I do enjoy Sassy Jac’s for their atmosphere and food. It’s a great place to go in our neighborhood and I hope it sticks around for a long time.

Every time I’ve gone with a group, which has been a decent amount of times, everyone has loved and raved about their meals. The owner is wonderful and very passionate about what he does. He usually tries to come out and check on everyone to make sure they’re enjoying their meal. I think little details like that are very important. I absolutely love their tongue sandwich(he makes a few different types throughout the year and you shouldn’t let it scare you b/c it’s soooo good), tuna tacos, fries pickles and garlic fries… yeah, I’ve tried a bit. The tongue is outrageously tender and delicious! I’d love to be able to order their old tongue sandwich as well, but understand it can be hard to offer too many options since he makes everything fresh. The fried pickles’ breading is perfect, the tuna tacos are very flavorful and simple enough so you can taste how all the flavors work together beautifully, garlic fries are so tasty(many people will tell you they are the best fries around) and the surf n turf dish is delicious. They also have a fantastic variety of beer and mixed drinks. Last time I went they had a good selection of local and seasonal beers. My only main complaint is that they usually only have one server who is also the bartender, which isn’t enough when they’re busy. I’m not sure if this is always the case, but it has been many times I’ve gone. I wouldn’t call it bad service, but it’s just impossible for her to really keep up on everything when she has so many people to take care of and drinks to make. The understaffing is why I have to give it a 4 star. Also, I sometimes find their food to be a bit too salty for me, but maybe I’m just sensitive. I usually ask for light salt and add more at the table if I need it, which works out perfectly. Check them out!

This place was a surprise. It has been on my bookmark list so it had come up in the queue to try. One of the nice things about having gps and using Unilocal bookmarks is being told what is close by and when your list gets long it comes in real handy. I ordered the house salad(very good) which is made with greens(can’t eat iceberg anymore) and it had nice color and balance of ingredients. I then ordered the Surf and Swine(very good) which is grits topped with braised pork steak, southern bbq and crawfish(menu has shrimp). While I would have rather had the shrimp the dish was pretty unique and tasty, something I would get again. The chef(I want to say cook but that wouldn’t be right) came out to ask about it which I always appreciate and the bartender/waitress(I sat at the bar) had a great personality and provided the right amount of attention and banter(not a word I use often but it seems to fit here). Definitely a place I want to try again and worth a try out.

How in the hell did I not know about this place until this last weekend? This is the BEST place in Soulard, hands down, nothing compares. My husband had this swine and surf– it was cheese grits, bbq shrimp and some kind of pork– it was so good I am still craving it 4 days later. I got blackened tuna tacos and it came with a side of collard greens, omg, omg, omg, so good! They toasted the shell for the tacos, the tuna was prefect, I cried tears of joy over this food. I debated writing anything about this place because this is just a place I don’t want to share, but I want to see it thrive. I pretended that my husband rented it out just for us because there were not any other patrons eating there at the time. This place should be packed every night. I think the establishment is just gorgeous inside. I seriously can’t believe I did not know about this place sooner!
