Amazing food! Great service. Large portions… I am visiting for work and this place was recommended by a local. I am thrilled to have found this little gem for any return trips. Thank you!

My wife and I loved this place when we tried it recently. Quick service and friendly staff but a little pricey compared to some of the other restaurants in the area. Will come back for sure.

Went there for a friend’s Birthday! A group of 10. Got there 8:30. Our server, Sophie, was the worst server I have experienced in my life. I work in the restaurant industry so I know how things should run. Sophie brought all of our waters without ice. Then without asking if we want any thing else to drink, she informed us we can only do 5 checks, THATSIT! Then as we are trying to order she informs us that we only have 10 minutes or we can’t get our food. TWICE! She basically treated us like toddlers. Then as we asked the manager, much nicer, but informs us that it’s gonna be a convenience fee of $ 3 for every other separate check! That’s a joke right? Every other restaurant you can separate it any way you want. It maybe a little inconvenience for the server but it can be done. I’m sure Sophie had a long day and was tired, but her attendance to us was just not ok!

5−8−16 First time dining @ King & I Thai. Very much impressed with the super high quality food. Dined on Green Curry w/tofu and found it to be full flavored &100% delicious. Appetizer rolls of chopped lettuce with fabulous sauce were outstanding. For dessert we had mango with sticky rice… it was absolutely excellent. Finest in St Louis… this will be our first choice the future. Menu was excellent with photos and service was also excellent. Décor was very pleasing and very clean. Highly recommended!

I am obsessed with the corncake appetizer and yellow curry noodle entrée. I’ve never had a dish I didn’t like here. My picky grandparents also loved their food when I brought them here. They also frequently offer $ 5 for 1, $ 7 for 2 mimosa deal. This place is a South Grand staple and I am thrilled to have it in the neighborhood.

We had a large party of 15 come in for a birthday. The service was excellent and prompt; they had everything ready upon our arrival and were efficient throughout the meal. The only thing that was slightly off was that the food came out at different times in four waves. Not a huge deal, but it was a bit awkward. The food itself was very tasty, too. They have several original dishes, beyond what normal Thai restaurant have. I got the Yum which is a salad of sorts, with thinly sliced beef. It was flavorful but a little salty from the fish sauce. All in all it was a pleasant meal and they were patient with our large group.

They’ve remodeled and it is beautiful! The food is just as good as it has always been! King and I remains my favorite Thai place of all time!

Take out review only. Giving three stars because I cannot on grade on ambiance or wait service. The takeout service was good. The food was hot and ready on time. I ordered two cups of Tom Yum soup and two entrees(queen of Thailand and Four kings), all of which totaled about $ 48. I didn’t dislike anything. I could tell that they use fresher ingredients than most, and it didn’t seem like any MSG was involved. But in the end, it was still only stir-fry(oily, like most is), some soup, and sticky white rice served in boxes and plastic containers. It was honestly hard to justify the $ 48 price tag in my opinion.

Props to our server. I think her name was Sophie. She was super sweet and genuine. The food was very bland though. The tofu was rubbery and over cooked. The prices were too high for how mediocre the food was!!!

Recently went to the King & I for the first time last week. It was a good experience! Staff, food and drinks were all great. My friend and I got the King & I Fresh Rolls to split. I ordered the Bangkock Kapow as my entrée. The restaurant allows you to customize your level of spiciness(at least for the Bangkok Kapow) — you won’t have to worry about it being too hot and spicy. Our server gave us additional spices to apply to our meals. Since it was my first time I didn’t go with the standard hot, but next time I will. I also suggest trying their Spray Tan cocktail. It’s Chai Tea with two vodkas and Malibu, it was so good! I’ll definitely be back!

I have never been impressed with this place, bland middle of the road Thai food not really sure why people are obsessed; but today just really took the cake, I order the«King & I Special» there was absolutely nothing special about it, asked the waiter if it was spicy he said no asked for it spicy he told me he would bring out a sauce tray. I’m not a restaurant employee, I don’t want to make my own food. Also the the sudden they can long split checks 5 ways that’s a bunch of crap don’t come with a lot of people, and to take the cake today when I got my bill another meal on my bill was charged to have peppers removed! Like??! You charged me to keep something off of a dish… poor service very average food.

Standing More than just a footnote on the ever diverse and growing South Grand, the King and I is probably the go-to for Thai in the city. Bold statement but it’s most likely true. I always wrestle with whether I want to King and I or Lemongrass across the street, she’s partial to the former so I gleefully take defeat; it’s not like I’m losing anything anyway. The restaurant has gone through a transformation on the interior, from its raw roots, the dining area and presentation takes on a more modern look and appeal. It hasn’t lost it’s charm, just augmented to present a more polished visual. Of the available appetizers I would recommend the spring rolls, wrapped in rice paper with a choice of shrimp or vegetarian it’s a definite must. It comes with a peanut dipping sauce with small chunks of peanuts that accents the dish perfectly. I think there’s a crispy option for spring rolls by why even bother? These are well enough. The menu is huge so I’d find it hard to really make a recommendation, but either green or red curry with your choice of protein is where I’d start. Just be wary of the spiciness level you decide, if you’re a rookie to Thai food picking«hot» might leave you with heartburn and hurt feelings. In terms of spiciness though my only complaint would be I noticed the mild, medium, and hot choices tend to vary from day to day, it just lacks some consistency is all. Some days it’s hot some days it’s not. Aside from that their specials are a wonderful option, I enjoyed the duck special that comes with a side of rice included. The portion was way more than enough and I needed a take-home bag, which they happily bagged for me. I was pleased to see nice hearty chunks of duck included with my meal, loved it. Four stars is robbing them of the credit they deserve, let’s do 4.5 and I’ll be back. The menu is huge and you just know it’s all good, you just HAVE to return.

Wow, I love this place. Prices are a little bit more than what I’m used to but food portions are large and there’s quite a variety Fresh rolls(vegetarian): 4 stars. Very large, nice portion and delicious peanut sauce but I felt they needed some seasoned tofu or something inside. The other option is pork I believe and if I wasn’t vegetarian I can imagine those would be much better. green curry(mild): 5 stars. SO good. Huge portion. Perfect spice for me. Filling. Craving it. Enough for 2 portions. Mango smoothie: 5 stars. Just. Get. It.

I had the Thai fajita that was super tasty. The mixture of Thai and cashew with the Veggies just made the dish. We had 8 of and the service was great. We love the location and the surrounding area. Casual urban area with a great park nearby that we walked through. For real Thai with a flair try this place.

Another quality Thai place! The search for more great Thai has sent me all over this great city. While looking for something to eat, my friend mentioned King and & I. I was game! King and I is in the heart of Tower Grove, on a stretch of Grand surrounded by other popular bars and restaurants. However, K&I seems to focus more on the restaurant aspect, even though they serve beer and mixed drinks. My friend had a mixed drink, which I couldn’t find on the place’s website. I had a Schlafly White Lager. Despite the adult beverages, K&I shuts it down at ten on the weekends, so if you’re looking for a late night hang, this place is not it. However, there are plenty of options after dinner. The prices are the most expensive for Thai food than I’ve encounter, which is most likely reflective of the location. The Chicken Pad Thai was twelve dollars, two dollars more than I’ve spent on the dish thus far. My friend ordered the Yellow Curry with tofu, which was thirteen. However, the portion were more than enough for the price. As far as taste, K&I is right there with most places. I felt like I had a lot of noodles but not as much chicken. However, I had plenty of food in general to take home and enjoy the next day. I also tried some of the Yellow Curry, which was pretty good, too. When it comes to Thai food, King & I might not be my favorite, but if given the chance to return, I wouldn’t turn it down. Good service, a few drinks, nice atmosphere, and very good Thai food!

An update has been in order since King & I changed their management and revamped their menu sometime in 2014. I have no complaints about dry, stringy meats in any of their dishes anymore. In fact, all of their curries are very good and the meats are actually tender and adequately portioned. The duck curries are phenomenal — the duck is tender and the sauce is well-flavored and appropriately spiced. I recommend getting the«medium spicy» level for the dishes if you can tolerate heat but don’t want to be drinking water during your whole meal. You can always ask for more chili/sriracha on the side. The papaya salad here is now outstanding and I get it every time. It’s the right amount of salty-sweet-tart. If you order take-out, there is a separate side door entrance where you can pick up your order.

A foodie friend of mine recently had a birthday so a group of 8 went to King and I Thai for a Sunday dinner. We had made reservations and we were immediately seated on an otherwise busy evening. The ambiance of the restaurant is exceptional — modern and clean. There was lots of hustle and bustle but it was quiet enough to comfortably converse. The new menus unveiled very recently were quite aesthetically appealing. There are tons of options! As a vegetarian, I had many choices and there was an entire page of the menu dedicated to meat-free entrées. I had the medium spicy papaya salad with the vegetarian sweet sauce. It was fresh and delicious. I would recommend it to anyone wanting something light and flavorful. I also had a thai iced tea. I consider myself a connoisseur of this particular beverage and King and I did a great job. Tea was not overly sweet and tasted extra creamy. I would definitely come back and try more of their Thai specialties. One downside was they only accepted 5 credit cards for our party but we were able to pay in cash.

I would love to give this place a 3.5 stars… possibly rounding it up to 4 stars but i hate the fact that i’ve been here a few times and they’re always closed. I wish I could say that I’ve dined here a million times but since they have funky hours, I always end up wanting to dine during their day off or time off. It’s nice they have a break in-between lunch and dinner but I think they would make a ton of $$$ if they opened all day. Anyways, my first experience was great here, in between it was average. This review is based off of my last visit. I was here recently, I love that they have decorated the interior nicely from the last time i’ve been(its been awhile). It’s super clean inside! the bar looks lovely! The dining area is nice, very lightly lit… kinda a little to dark… too dark actually. The service was amazing! Our server was super always smiling, and super friendly! What we had… Crab Rangoon: these reminded me of when my parents had their chinese restaurant for 20+ years! They were super good and I defiantly miss my parents place. Having these here brought back memories. Spring Egg Rolls: There’s were average, they were like every other restaurants egg rolls. Panang Curry: I love panang curry! Some place make it with too much coconut, other places do not. Here… it was ok. the sauce was good. the chicken was very overcooked, so super dry. tasted like rubber. Pad Thai: I am not a fat noodle fan or Pad Thai in general but I must say I really enjoy this dish! It was definitely my favorite of all time. I’ve had Pad Thai at many Thai/Lao restaurants and this is by far the best. It was not overly sweet, just perfect with a hint of lemon juice. Downfall is that the chicken was dry but not as dry as what I had in the curry. Combination Pineapple Fried Rice: This dish was very disappointing considering we ordered combination… I assumed combination would have more than a few different type of meats. well what we had was dried out overcooked chicken, beef and 4 pieces of shrimp. we were expecting different types of seafood, tofu, etc… I guess we should of asked before paying 16 $ just for fried rice. The pineapple fried rice was a little bland itself. I will make note not to order this in the future. Overall, service was great. some of the food here can be overpriced. We asked for our food to be spicy but they didn’t make it spicy at all, luckily for hot chili sauce and flakes. I don’t think I will be back anytime soon, maybe next year or a few years from now. Maybe it was a good thing that they were closed overtime we wanted to dine here.

I’ve been to King and I probably 100 times over the past 10 years. It’s one of my favorite Thai spots because of the atmosphere, the high quality of food and the friendly folks who work here. My absolute favorite dish on their menu is the Spicy Noodles(Medium) with Chicken. It’s on my top 10 favorite dish list for any restaurant. I always find some time to go to King and I when I’m in town. Love this place!

Okay, so I’m kind of new to Thai but I’m loving it. In my college days all my friends were like, «I love Thai food,» and I was all like, «I don’t really.» I’ve been giving it a second chance lately and my heart has changed. I used to think it was all spicy curry but then I discovered this wonderful dish called coconut curry… And thus, the love story being. I came here with a friend to pick up some coconut curry after I helped them move to a new apartment. We were promptly seated on a Friday night around 9:00. They were clearly winding down and people were trickling out. They forgot about us for a while after we were seated but once they figured this out they took our order and got our food out immediately. Clearly, I got the coconut curry and it was AMAZING. I haven’t had it enough to speak to how unique it was but solid dish all around. I would deff come back.

I visited on 9÷17÷15 along w/two companions– one of which suggested this place. I ordered the chicken Pad Grapao medium $ 13.00 and my boyfriend ordered the same only hot. The server brought a spice rack so I could amp it up if desired which, I did. The taste and portion was good– next time I would order it hot. The other individual in our party ordered the Four Kings $ 18.00 medium and liked it. We all substituted for brown rice $ 1.00 each– I don’t like that they charge for brown rice. The gentlemen ordered a Sapporo $ 4 and Shlafy Season $ 4 and I enjoyed a glass of Cab $ 8. Service was friendly/attentive and prices were reasonable. There are a lot of Thai options in the area and I would try another next time but would return to this location w/o hesitation.
