Always try to get in there when we are in town. Absolute BEST Chinese food I have ever had and nowhere comes close even in Cali !! Empress Chicken is the bomb & their fried rice is fantastic.

Don’t understand why this place has such good reviews. I’ve been coming here for years bc I like the gravy on the egg foo. But the last time I ordered, they changed the recipe and it was just average. And portion was smaller, while price went up. Yesterday, we stopped in for lunch on the Buffett. The place had about 4 sets of customers at noon, but the buffet trays were literally empty, save for a few onions and peppers. Maybe there was a mad rush just before we got there, but this place has gone way down. Complete waste of time. We walked out and went to hokaido down the road. Slightly above average food, but at least they had actual food to eat.

Best takeout Chinese I’ve ever had in St. Louis. Tastes like it was just made. I’ve yet to have a bad dish, bourbon chicken, lo mein, Mongolian beef, fried rice, all delicious. My one complaint is that they advertise delivery and often don’t have anyone there to deliver when I call.

this place is not fancy… the selection isn’t great… but the price is right and they appreciate the business. I go whenever I am in the neighborhood… its not big but you wont be disappointed for the price.

I have not dined in at Hunan Royal yet but have gotten carry out orders going back years and have been very happy. We stopped for awhile when we moved then decided it was worth it to go out of our way so we could get their food. The quality of the food is excellent. They are fast. The food is hot and as ordered. I get different things, always chicken though and have always liked it. The crab rangoon is great. My husband is happy with his beef orders. I have no complaints and I am a complainer sometimes so that’s saying something!

I walked in here, based on glowing reviews. I guess I didn’t see whatever they saw. Perhaps the answer is to order a la carté next time as the buffet is rather disappointing. I ate a little of everything in only two trips. Food’s not bad, just think it could help to have a variety. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, I’ve had better luck at Hokkaido

After years of being a faithful customer to a different Chinese restaurant in South County(cough — Lucky China — cough), and becoming very disappointed with them when their quality went downhill, I was in search of a new place where I could get my fix of hot, fresh, tasty Chinese cuisine. Fortunately, I believe I’ve found it at Hunan Royal. Last night I placed a to go order for one order of crab rangoon and a half order of beef fried rice(at the recommendation of Lisa R. who recommended it in her review of Hunan Royal). I have to say, Lisa R. wasn’t wrong. It is the best beef fried rice … EVERRRRRRRRR!!! After ordering the half order, I wished I’d ordered the full, because it was so darned good! First, it’s piping hot, which is a must for fried rice. Second, it has the perfect amount of soy sauce and oil, which make for great texture and mouth appeal. Third, the beef, which is actually very tender steak, is sliced in thin strips and is generously spread throughout the rice. Yum-o! And, they aren’t stingy with it either. The little carton is packed full of rice. You get a lot of bang for your buck with just a half order. I did order it without bean sprouts and onions, because I’m not a fan of those, but even without them, the rice had tons of flavor, lots of bits of egg, lots of meat, and lots of yumminess. I recommend it highly! As for the crab rangoon … seriously the best I’ve ever had. In a single order, Hunan Royal gives you 6 crab rangoon, and they’re huge! They aren’t overly garlicy or sweet either, like the crab Rangoon I’ve had at some places. Instead, they’re bursting with creamy cream cheese and they’re perfectly crisp around the edges. I couldn’t eat more than 3, but this was in addition to the half order of beef fried rice. Seriously good eats here, ladies and gents. Service was good. I walked in on a whim, placed my order without waiting, and in ten minutes, I was out the door with a smile from the hostess at the front. I will say, there isn’t a lot of room to sit and wait for takeout orders, but there are many places nearby to stop in and waste some time. A Deals, a Starbucks, and so on. Or, you can do what I did and wait in your car, listening to Jimmy Buffett on Sirius XM :) I definitely recommend this place if you want fast, reasonably priced, great tasting Chinese in the south county/Tesson Ferry area. I plan on being a repeat customer, myself.

Can someone tell me what’s going on with this place? I have wanted to try it since I moved here because of the great reviews yet, I tried to go there twice and they were closed. Hours on the door stated they should be have been open. Then I called for take out the other day hoping to get it delivered since I can’t drive right now. The woman that answered the phone did not say the restaurants name making me have to ask if I dialed the right place. Then when I asked for delivery, she said they don’t deliver!!! I see the last review is from August, is this just a case of maybe a business changing hands?

I travel a lot, but when I want chinese, I wait and get it here, sometimes a little oily, but always the best flavor. I’ve never had a bad experience here.

I think we’ve probably found our go-to South County Chinese place with Hunan Royal, but I’m always on the quest for something a little better. Hunan Royal does the basics right. For us, those basics are: egg drop soup, hot n sour soup, chicken fried rice, & chicken lo mein. The hubs really loves the Crab Rangoon as well! Another great thing about Hunan Royal is the price! You cannot beat dinner, plus 1 leftover lunch for him and 2 leftover lunches for me for under $ 20! The orders are filled fast(in 10 minutes) and the staff have always been friendly. The only downside I’ve experienced is how oily everything seems. I always feel like there is a film covering my mouth when I get finished eating. Who knows though? The food satisfies my cravings for Chinese cuisine, so what if I have to wash my face after eating?

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants. I’m not huge on Chinese, I usually only get fried rice and they have the best beef fried rice EVERRRRRRRRR. But get it delivered– if you go in to the buffet their fried rice tastes nothing like what you get with delivery. I actually didn’t care for their rice in the buffet. Weird I know, but the delivered beef fried rice is so worth it.

Since our normal go to chinese place changed hands and hasn’t been the same since, we have been looking for a fairly close place for carryout. Hunan Royal has fit the bill as far as having Chinese we all agree is good. Great Mongolian Beef, Great Crab Rangoon. Only ok on the eggdrop and Wonton soup. Average on the Sweet and Sour Chicken and Empress Chicken. The lunch and dinner combo is a good value for what you get and the lunch buffet is just ok. If you are looking for great service you might want to make a different choice. If you come to dine in at even remotely close to closing time they almost don’t even want to seat you, they encouraged us to place a to go order. Really? I will keep going here for the food until I find a better option.

AMAZING food!!! crab rangoon, orange chicken, fried rice everything was just about amazinnnnnggggg loved it!!! the service… is a joke. we came at about 8 and ate dinner and were done at about 8:45 our server asked us if we would like a box and of course I said yes. we were sitting for a minute with our boxes and she got really upest we were still sitting there I had no idea they closed at 9. So, she took all of our food and threw it in one box all together(gross) when i specifically said i want to box it up myself. and said that they are now closed and she would like us to pay. wow I dont think i have been so offended in my life at a restaurant. But overall food is awesome! Ill just go to the other location next time! LOL :)

I know the reviews have been wonderful, and I hate to be the one, but I’m sorry, my experience was less than stellar. Went for the buffet and started with hot/sour soup. I could have made it better at home. There was nothing hot about it, i think they left off the white pepper, it was more of a broth with mushrooms. Crab Ragoons were very good. The entrée’s were just ok except for the hot/sour chicken which was very good. The sesame chicken and orange chicken were fair with little taste. What bothered me the most was the poor service. I was with 3 friends and the place almost empty, and they let us stack our plates and bowls up on the table. The 2 women walked by our table numerous times and never picked them up, until they were asked to do so. We also did not get refills on our water until we asked for that too. We also had to ask for our check. Nothing special here, folks. It was our first and last time to dine here.

If there is a better Chinese Buffet anywhere in town, I haven’t found it. Sure, the selection is not massive, but it has all the standard fare you could ever want. And, there isn’t any soft serve ice cream, but after you stuff yourself with crab rangoon for a half hour, who wants desert anyway??? They have it every day from 11:30 to 1:30 or so and it’s only about 6 dollars a person.(In the interest of full disclosure, this price could have gone up, it’s been a while since I went). Just ask anyone on the St. Anthony’s Hospital Staff, this buffet is a lunchtime jewel. The take out is awesome as well. My family has been frequenting this place for years, and to this day we haven’t had one bad order. Embarassingly, they know us by name now, and whenever I go pick it up, they ask how my dad is doing. My sister even drives all the way from Arnold just to eat from this place. However, it’s cheap, it’s delicious, and the people are incredibly nice.
