Seems like a nice neighborhood bar, but I wouldn’t make a special trip to visit. I got a bottle of Stag for $ 2.25, which seems a little expensive, but probably just because I’ve been getting them for $ 1.50 at CBGB lately. Didn’t stay long enough to check out what they had on tap, but it seems like a place to drink American adjunct lager really — like any other dive. My friend tried to get a mojito and they said they couldn’t do it, so she got a gin and tonic instead. The décor is pretty funny, and they have a fancy digital jukebox that seems pretty out of place. I’d happily spend a couple hours with a big group of friends if we happened to end up at Colorado Bob’s — good place to people watch, drink something cheap, and check out the weird(mostly maritime) stuff on the walls.

This has been my favorite bar for the past 2 years. Bob, the owner, is an incredibly nice guy. The bartenders are all nice, and its just a really relaxed place. Sometimes it can get kind of smokey, but its usually not too bad. They are cash only, but do have an atm. All of their beers have been bottle/can only until recently, when they finally added schlafly pale ale on draft! Good choice for first draft beer. Bobs also tends to have food for certain events. Its also really good, and often free! If youre in the tower grove/south city area, check this place out

Major dive bar, but cool décor. I don’t think they serve food, and I wouldn’t want to eat in such a smoky place, but this place is a good watering hole. Cheap, cheap, cheap happy hour and just in general. Also, I love this area of Tower Grove South. We are a big fan of getting a few drinks here and then hopping around to a few local places such as Amsterdam, Stella Blues, etc. Three monkeys is usually where we end up though because they have such good happy hour drink and food specials.

OMGTHISBAR. I would probably come here literally once a week if only: (1) It was non-smoking. and (2) they actually had a menu… even if it was just appetizers… Other than that, it’s a really cool little place. The bartenders were super nice and made conversation. It was kind of dead the night me and my girl-friend went, so I’d like to go back on a Fri or Sat when it is busier. But it’s a pretty long haul. I’d be more willing to come back and make the crazy drive if the two aforementioned conditions were met but I doubt it’ll ever happen. I heard the owner likes to smoke so I doubt it will ever be non-smoking. But even if they just met condition(1), I would still probably come back, just make sure to eat beforehand… alas! No one was even smoking when I went and yet when I got home I still reeked like an ashtray. :(

You have to come here knowing what to expect: a no frills dive bar with good cheap drinks and a laid back atmosphere. We had a fun time here just chatting and having drinks. The place is super smoky, so if that bothers you I would skip this place. There were a few people here on a Thursday night enjoying drinks and no one bothered us at all, it’s not that type of place where guys come just to hit on girls, which is a refreshing change from other places. The bartender was nice and even took a free shot with us in honor of my birthday, now that’s my idea of a laid back fun place. They have a digital jukebox type of player with tons of music so you can pay to listen to just about anything you want. This place is smaller than I expected and it reminds me of red lobster on the inside. You can’t miss this place, just look for the large sailboat in the front yard and you’ll know you’ve found it. Just a good time where you’ll probably meet some new friends after a few hours of drinks.

If you are into hole in the wall dive bars with no frills that is a great place to just grab some cheap drinks and chill out… this one of the best palces to go. Staff is friendly and Bob himself is in there most days.

Because we have recently become South City Dwellers, we have made it a point to sample all of the bars on Morganford. Living up to his credo, Colorado Bob was wheelin’ around the front of the bar when we pulled up and of course, he initiated conversation. He was super friendly as was the smoking hot bartender. We played those touch screen games for an hour and enjoyed our pleasantly strong and inexpensive drinks. Also, Big Buck Hunter for the win! We will be back! BTWs, smoking is allowed and almost encouraged! Yikes it was stinky!

Nothing short of amazing… Here’s what you WON’T find at Colorado Bob’s — Bulky bouncers — Craft cocktails — A long wait at the bar — Michelin Star award — People sitting around having pretentious conversations, like the recent foie gras ban on the possibility of traveling around Mozambique and living with the natives. Just for fun. However, if you look for the bar on Morganford with a sailboat in the front yard, here’s what you will find: — Friendly bartenders — Cheap drinks(shot special: $ 2.75) — Colorado Bob himself will welcome you with Key West hospitality — A clock on the wall with 5 for every number on the face, since it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere — Free food on certain nights Yes, it’s smoky in there and the patrons are a little rough around the edges, but it’s a price worth paying for South City awesomeness. If we could only move Colorado Bob to the Bay Area.

I didn’t know this was even a place, i had walked by it several times and just assumed it was some eccentric sailors house. One day i noticed the door was open and there was booze everywhere… i thought to myself«well it’s 2pm why not?» I had such a wonderfully odd time here the bartender Tammy was awesome and fun and i got a lot of crazy stories out of the place, stories i probably shouldn’t write about but fun craziness was had.

This place is awesome, awesome, AWESOME! The 5 star rating doesn’t have much to do with the beer selection or ambiance of the place. This establishment gets 5 stars for the absolutely great, welcoming staff and the amazingly friendly owner. When we first pulled up, we felt a little out of place, because even though my friends and I LOVE dive bars, we could tell this was a «locals joint», so we weren’t sure we’d be welcomed with open arms… The staff ended up being super awesome and friendly, and Colorado Bob himself even came out and talked to us for about an hour and bought my friends and I a round of drinks. It was very cool to be at a bar where the owner and staff weren’t total self righteous d-bags. I would go back to this bar just to listen to more of Colorado Bob’s interesting stories. Awesome place, we’ll be back again!

Ok, so the Pub Crawl ended at Colorado Bob’s. I have to say I love the name and the theme inside this freaking awesome dive bar. Now I know why they call it Ship of Fools because we were all acting like fools by the time we were ready to leave for the after party. The inside of the bar looks like as if someone took the sets of Bikini Bottom and Hook and threw them inside a dive bar. I had the Sponge Bob Squarepants theme in my head most of the night as I was drinking here. The place isn’t that large but somehow we filled the place up and had a great time. The bartenders were great all night and the bar manager was super cool to talk to about Hockey, too bad the Blues lost 3 – 1 that night. When will my next cruise aboard Colorado Bob’s Ship of Fools happen? Who knows but I’ll be as drunk as the rest of the crew!

Dive bar, good drinks, smokey and small. We stopped in one night to hear The Quaaludes play and had a good time. Very friendly staff and actually everyone that we met in the bar was pretty friendly so no complaints. They did have some free food but we didn’t eat any since we just got finished with dinner earlier. Great place to see an awesome girl rock band! Fun time!

I have to go with 5 stars, although I was only there for about 30 minutes, I had a great time. I didn’t eat anything(there was some food in buffet pans?) and didn’t drink anything, although my friends had a drink. We went to meet others, who did not show up but it worked out. The band this night was The Quaaludes and my first time … the best band I have heard in a long time, to the point, I will definitely seek them out. A good vibe to the place, heavily decorated with a maritime theme and a mixed crowd but more older. I was able to get parking easily. Clean, plenty of room for a small place and friendly service. A decent place to hang out.

Cutest dive-bar bartender! And since it’s a dive bar, you bet she’s friendly too! We rolled in on a weekend evening. The place wasn’t packed. Drinks were super cheap and STRONG. We played both the big buck hunter game and a few rounds of golf on the machines in the back room. The bartender and a guy working there checked on us multiple times to make sure we didn’t need anything else. This is as good as dive bars get. There is ample parking on the street outside this place and thanks to the sail boat out front, you won’t miss it driving down the street.

When I moved back to St. Louis from Chicago, I knew what I was truly going to miss about the windy city was their bizarre and eclectic dive bars. Well eat it, Chi-Town because Colorado Bob’s Ship of Fools was one of the coolest bars I have ever been to. Colorado Bob’s is a perfect reminder that I do not know STL as well as I think I do. I went here a couple of weeks ago with my fiancé and two cousins. My one cousin in particular, much cooler than I, had lived in the city about a month and already knew cooler places to go out than I have in my 5 years of living here. I would never call myself a Parrothead, more of a parrot nose or eyes or something. Regardless, I do enjoy Mr. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reffers. At Colorado Bob’s, it was like walking into a Key West dive bar circa 1982, I was expecting to see Jimmy walk right in straight outta Havana Daydreamin’. It was just awesome. Cheap beers and great people. I did not have the privilege of meeting Colorado Bob but I will not fret because I will be returning. Overall, I wouldn’t take just anyone there. It’s probably not a crowd pleaser as much as it is an awesome person pleaser.

Ever since I spotted the sailboat on the front lawn I have been dying to go to Colorado Bobs’s. After dinner at La Tropicana with some friends we decided to stop by and check it out. Soon after we arrived, someone came over to take our drink order and brought us a basket of complimentary potato chips, nothing über fancy, but just really nice. Bob even came over and said hello himself. He introduced himself to all of us, asked what we did and remembered our names throughout the conversation. This, my friends, is a great dive bar(and I mean that in the best way possible, not pretentious or stuffy). I was really impressed and I cannot wait to go back!

I’ve been to Colorado Bob’s during a few Morganford pub crawls but last night we really got to taste the true flavor of this neighborhood gem. Colorado Bob, like his namesake bar, is full of character and what a super nice guy! Last night, it was the bartender’s b-day and Colorado Bob ordered pizza from The Three Monkey’s for the staff but then insisted that we join them and have a piece, how awesome is that! It also really says something about your establishment when other local bar owners/managers frequent your watering hole, as was the case last night with the owners of 2 local bars in attendance. Cheap drinks, friendly, laid back patrons, Colorado Bob and bar Manager Opey, really make this a go to place!

Colorado Bob gave us a bottle of champagne! On NYE Big Arnold and I planned on going to Venice Café after dinner at Frazer’s but it was closed for the night. So, on the way to Denim Ball 2010, we decided to stop by our original date place, Colorado Bob’s Ship of Fools. We sat down at our places at the bar and Bob came over and we started chatting. We told him his place was our first date place and that we loved it and have been back several times, and that we wanted to stop by for a quick drink this night because it was my birthday. After a few beers Bob asked us if we would stay for one more on the house and if we would say bye to him on our way out. One more Heine later we were saying by to Bob and as he walked us out, he gave us a bottle of the champagne he was going to use for later that night! Bob is the best! The bartender, who was also super cool, took pics of Bob and Me and Big Arnold. Stopping in at Bob’s was the highlight of my birthday! We left there just amazed at how nice and cool of a guy Bob is. If you haven’t been to CBSOF yet, you must go!

Great old tavern. Some may say«dive bar» and that’s a compliment in this age of shrinking family owned corner bars. «Locals only» would not be appropriate, as all are greeted as treasured guests, but this ain’t no college bar where you’ll get away with acting the ass either. You can’t miss the place on Morganford and Oleatha. It’s the place with the sailboat in the front yard. Yes, this little bar has a tiny front-yard and sits amongst the residential area south of the railroad tracks. The owner, Bob(how about that?) is a gem and he treats all of his customers to a warm welcome and departure. The young barmaids are easy on the eyes, friendly and attentive. The prices are typical south city tavern($ 1.50-$ 2.00 longnecks/$ 3 rail cocktails). The décor is Key West Kitsch and heavy mariner, including a massive ship’s wheel mounted in the center of the bar. There are 2 men’s rooms and a ladies room for wheel chair access. Bob’s little secret is that he has what I consider to be one of the best little bar pool tables in St Louis. Yes, there is only one, but the roll is true, the sticks well-tipped and straight and there is mostly ample room to maneuver around the table. Bob doesn’t allow leagues, which accounts for the condition of the felt and sticks, so if you’re a knucklehead looking to go in and tear a place up with your crew, stay away. If you want a competitive afternoon of pool with your buddies, this is the place. Also has HD Golden Tee and Silver Strike Bowling. Lots of old televisions scattered around so you can see most games on broadcast or sports cable if you like… just ask. No food served other than chips or pretzels so the smoking ban will not affect this place for a few years. Doesn’t open on Saturday afternoons until after 3 p.m. so if you’re looking for a place to shoot pool, adjust schedule accordingly. Opens on most holidays(Christmas Day/New Year’s Day). Sometimes live bands play here(like Poco). In summary, a real working man’s(or woman’s) kind of place you can go enjoy a drink, a smoke, a game or some good conversation and hospitality without having to spend an hour getting ready for, as noone really gives a $hit what you look like here. 5th star is for the change machine next to the pool table.

I’ve been to Colorado Bob’s at the beginning of two pub crawls along Morgan Ford. The staff is always friendly, the drinks are cheap, and the atmosphere is fun and casual. The décor includes a lot of nautical, Key West trinkets and reminds me of my South Florida roots. Most of the time you’ll see Bob roaming around or in the office and he’ll probably come over to chat with you. For the pub crawl he even made BBQ pork in a crock pot and served it up free of charge at the end of the crawl. Colorado Bob’s is the place to go if you’re looking for a laid back kind of night. Cash Only!
