cheap chinese eatery that specializes in chinese bento boxes. pretty small restaurant, so most folks will order take out. not exactly your beautiful restaurant, but its clean overall. i’ve tried the pork chop bento box. it comes with the aforementioned pork chop, rice, vegetables, and egg. good portions, it’ll fill you up for lunch or dinner. this food is simple, cheap, and pretty good. if you want a quick and cheap dinner check this place out. there’s also a meal deal plan where you can buy some meals in advance and by doing so you will get one free bento… for those of you who really like this place.

It’s great for takeout when I just don’t feel like cooking. The service is meh… they could be a little nicer. My mom and I really like their stewed duck wings. We’ve had their fried pork chop(very oily…), stir fried udon noodles, egg over fried rice, grilled pork chop, and grilled chicken. All the meat dishes come with rice and 2 small side dishes. Their food is pretty good for the low price. I don’t like any of their drinks, so I only go their for their bentos.

I moved to San Jose about an year ago and came across Won Stew House. They tempted me into buying the 10 bento + 1 free meal + 11 free boba drink for $ 66 the first time going. Being new to the area, I thought it was a great deal so I bought it. So to make a long story short, one year later(today!) I get to finally celebrate the completion of the bento card and to never go back again. The service is the worse I seen anywhere; it makes me want to throw the food away everytime I go there. Their rude attitude, the way they talk to you, and how they throw the food at you makes me wonder how they even survive to today. I have seen 3 different chinese women working there and not one is even close to being nice. I, myself, am Chinese and I feel so shameful that these people are serving the Bay Area community. The food is not even that great but I guess if you like fast and convenient… well, continue to support this poor lost family. For those who still have a bento card, I advise you to use it quickly before they close down!

Why the lack of love Unilocal? This is my go to favorite cheap eats right now. This place is a cheap bento box kinda place… and for how much you’re paying the quality and the quantity is VERY reasonable. Bento boxes typically come with rice, tea egg, some spicy meat sauce over the rice, vegetables, and your entrée of choice. I’ve come with a few favorites: 1) Pork chop — it’s not your typical chinese fried pork chop, in that it’s covered in panko. But what I liked was that it wasn’t greasy and they gave you TWO pork chops that took up the entire size of the to go container. They pork chops are thin, but I like it b/c it increases crust to meat ratio 2) Grilled chicken — om nom nom nom deliciousness 3) Grilled pork — look above 4) sesame cold noodle with chicken — i LOVE it here. The sesame sauce, mixed with the chili sauce is the perfect combo. I even like their cold noodles(dan dan mein?) better than mama liang’s in the same plaza,. I wouldn’t get their drinks — they’re not really a boba shop. However what I would buy? Their buy 10 combo card. You pre-pay for 10 bento lunches, and you will get the 11th bento free + free milk tea, water, or soda. So this is what I figure… each boba drink is $ 2.50 x $ 10 = $ 25 in savings! Plus the free 11th bento! You can’t go wrong with this deal. Not to mention that the bentos are about 2 meals for me(but I am small, my husband can polish off one bento no problem).

Awful experience. The clerk there has very rude attitude. I will never go there again. Besides, the food is not tasty at all. Try the Ma restaurant next door. It is much nicer.

Service still sucks. The lady behind the counter is still rude and it seems like the portion got smaller even more. Both the lady and the cook also complained how my friend decided to order something after I got my food, even though we arrived at the same time. Price went up too. The food still taste the same though.

This place serves up what I call no frills, no nonsense to go lunch boxes. There is nothing special or great about it, but the price is very reasonable especially when you get a 10 stamp card, which ends up equaling 1 free bento + free boba everytime you go. The milk tea tastes watered down. I tried the pork feet the first time — tasted great, but it was the cold style instead of hot. The chicken steak(grilled) was not bad. I also tried the fried fish — not bad. I noticed they tend to offer more stuff that is fried. Anyway, worth a try to get your craving of taiwanese bento boxes. Just nothing that special. And yes, as others stated the servers seem like they aren’t too happy to work there. In fact, this one lady always has a look on her face like somebody just stole her money or something. She’s been downright rude just about every time I’ve ordered from her. Don’t expect good service here. Also, food seems to be reheated and not made fresh, FYI.

HOLYCARP service here can be… FREAKINGSCARY. I generally could care less about service(in fact, I often prefer the no-frills, no-nonsense service typically found at Chinese restaurants), but the lady who took my order here tonight was so bizarrely rude that it left me stunned. First, she greeted me with a curt«What do you want» in Chinese(it was pretty much a snarl). Unfortunately, my Chinese skills aren’t great, so I had to order in English. I’m not sure if this triggered something in her or what, but I felt that her entire demeanor towards me suddenly became much worse. After I placed my order, she made a milk tea and placed it on the counter. Seeing that the one other customer didn’t make a move, I assumed it was for me and reached out my hand to take it. And that’s when she SNATCHED it from the counter and GLARED at me. I was so shocked by her sudden, forceful reaction that my heart started pounding. Okay, fine, so the milk tea was actually for the other guy, but did you really have to do that? Couldn’t a simple«Oh, sorry, that’s not for you» suffice? YIKES. To be fair, if it weren’t for my terrible experience tonight, I would have rated this place 2 or even 3 stars. It’s fast, cheap, and convenient. Their Taiwanese-style bento boxes come in large portions. Most of their items taste fairly decent, and their stewed pork is actually pretty good. And, for the record, I’ve been here a few other times and the lady who I usually see working here is an angel in comparison(I guess that’s not saying much, though). Still, this recent episode definitely makes me ultra-reluctant to ever come back, especially given the fact that there are plenty of solid, cheap, fast, Asian restaurants in the area(even within the same plaza) that offer tastier food and a much better experience.

won stew house sells taiwanese bento boxes(6.50) and tasty appetizers which they call«cold dim sum». unfortunately when i got here in the evening, the refreigators were bare. won stew house is a multi unit operation and the main kitchen is probably elsewhere. they have chow mein(mostly 7.50), smoked ducks and chicken, bento boxes, and various«simmered» beef tendons, shanks, pig liver, etc. that are sold by the pound. simmered means curing the meats by various means, depending on the meat in question. sampling(from 19 choices) –pork chop-breaded with light panko crumbs and fried. tasty and tender. recommened. –fish steak: small cut pieces of white fish panko breaded and fried. only so-so. fish portions too small, came out too dry. all bento boxes came with some sauteed ground beef, a boiled egg and some boiled veggies. fish steak not recommened. actually pretty filling. *will probably try smoked chicken, or duck next. choices limited mostly to chicken, duck or pork items. takeout: –after i ordered, the cashier spoke in spanish to the amigo«cook» in the kitchen. –tax included. –buy 10 bentos initially(65), get 11th free when card completed –flavored teas, milk pearl teas, smothies, and juices also available –bento boxes«cooked» to order, or was it packaged? took 10 minutes. –no room for sitdown, take out only. –fast, friendly, efficient service.

This is a small hole in the wall restaurant that specializes in Chinese food bento boxes at a cheap price. I found out about this place from some co-workers at one of my old jobs. They all used to always buy these pre-paid cards here for $ 50 or $ 60 bucks and you would end up saving a little money. This isn’t one of those fancy restaurants to bring a date to. It’s more ideal and perfect for when you are really hungry, on a tight budget, and looking for something good to hit the spot. The best of the best is the Pork Chop Bento Box. The Pork chops are tender and tasty on the inside and light and crispy on the outside that’s cooked to perfection! The bento boxes come with sautéed veggies, an egg, and marinated tofu. When I first came here the Bento Boxes used to only cost $ 5.50 and you used to get these two huge big pork chops. The prices have gone up since, yet the portions have gotten a little smaller. It’s now $ 6.50 and you get more like 1.5 pork chop pieces. I guess you got to scale back during this economy, so I understand. The food still comes out with the quickness after you order! I’ve tried their drinks and they are not very good. If you are looking for a peal milk tea or slush drink, I highly suggest looking elsewhere. Stick to the bento box for the win and you will leave a happy camper! :) Summary: Cheap and delicious bento boxes that will hit the spot.

I just moved to the neighborhood and I am just looking for a decent Chinese place around Lundy because most places around here haven’t WOW me. It’s 3pm and I’m starving. I ordered the pork chop bento box and haven’t had something like this since Sheng Kee Bakery was a restaurant. Pork chop was crispy and tender, but wish I had more stewed beef on my rice. For the price and the portion, it’s worth it. I will be back for the chicken bento box.

please please please, don’t order their cold noodle w/chicken. My friend was telling me how he got sick from their cold noodle w/chicken last time, but I didn’t listen. I thought, it’s a hot day, their food should move through quickly, and won’t spoil. I was wrong, my whole family end up feeling«weird» after the meal.

This place seems to be doing worse, or it was never that good to begin with compared to the Fremont location. Their portion seems to have shrinked gradually over time but well they are not the only place who does that. I guess it’s still not a bad choice if you’re looking to have a quick pick-up lunch that fills up your stomach. I mostly enjoyed the fact that most lunch boxes come with an soya sauce egg and sauteed greens. I did not like the service over there as I found the lady very weird and rude.

I believe this place deserves 5 stars for what it is. You can’t compare it against Ruth Chris and say the service sucks, or compare it against the Ritz-Carleton and say the place isn’t clean. Let’s rank this place as it is, a small hole in the wall joint that caters mostly to the lunch crowd that works nearby. 1) The food is cheap. A bento box is $ 6(~$ 5.50 if you buy their prepaid card). C’mon, people, we live in SJ. I don’t know a lot of other places that can get you filled up for as little as $ 6. Maybe viet sandwiches… maybe… 2) Quality. I’ve had a lot of Ji Pai Fan in my days, from various different places, and I gotta tell ya, this place does it right. The chicken is moist, the batter is slightly salty(as opposed to the dry bland kind). The bento box also comes with an egg, marinated tofu, sauteed veggies, preserved veggies and bits of stewed beef. The veggies balance out the oiliness of the chicken cutlet and the egg is delish anytime of the day. 3) Speed. From order to pickup, it takes maybe about 5 minutes. They don’t mess around in the kitchen. I’m sure the chicken is pre-battered and everything else is premade too, but I don’t care. As long as I get in and out under 10 minutes, I’m happy. They only accept credit card if your purchase is over $ 25, so either have cash on hand or buy one of their prepaid cards for $ 60(good for 11 meals)

There are four locations from Fremont, Milpitas, to San Jose. Foods are pretty consistent in all locations. Service-wide, only Fremont(the original store) is nice. The service at Lundy location is the worst ever, rude and careless. I strongly recommend their Simmered items and cold Dim Sum. I could finish whole box of Szechuan tendon or wine marinated chicken, yummmy! Also, cheap and big lunch boxes are around $ 6~7 /ea, grilled chicken/pork and pork sausage are my favorite. Lunch box is big enough for me to divide one into two meals. However, the vegetable and sides are pretty much the same all year round. If you are lazy, love to eat meat and could eat same things over and over, the lunch box here is a perfect fit. Drinks here taste bad. If you don’t mind walking just couple more feet away, there is always a better place to get those pearl teas. Over all, to-go boxes and cold side dishes are their specialty. This place is not really a place to dine in. Don’t expect too much, order and go, and plenty food to feed your tummy!

This is basically exactly the same as the Milpitas branch( ), except it is a bit smaller and not quite as clean. I often see the employees and cooks shuffle between these two locations(and Fremont as well), so the quality of the food is pretty much a clone. I had to dock one star for the lack of seating and somewhat poor upkeep of the décor.

I actually really like this place because it’s convinent when you’re hungry and most of the time the food is pretty consistent. This chinese to go restaurant specializes in chinese bento boxes. It also has a variety of chinese dishes that you can choose from. They also have daily dish specials. Their bento boxes are actually pretty nutrious. It comes with your protein(choice of meat, tofu and marinated egg), greens(veggies) and carbs(white rice). Our favorites here are the fried pork chop and chicken chop. Also I really like the stir fried rice cakes. They have this bento box that you can buy for $ 60, you get 11 bentos and $ 1 pearl teas. It’s pretty reasonable and I always get one for the lazy days when I don’t feel like cooking! :)

If you want chinese food cheap box lunches or dinners then this is your place. It cost $ 6.00 or so per box, but with tons of food. They raised the price from $ 5.00 before. The service there is terrible. The food taste ok but you cannot have it everyday, I noticed the kitchen is a bit dirty.

If you like 5-spiced marinated items, then this place is for you. Won Stew House offers 5-spice flavored dishes which have been stewed for a long time, hence its name. There is beef shank, pork shank, duck’s wings, pig’s feet, everything that can possibly be cooked with 5-spice. They also offer other stuff such as spicy beef tendon, Chinese pork tamales, little side dishes you can take home. The restaurant itself is really small, only seats around 5 – 12 people at most depending on its location. This one seems to be able to seat about 12 persons. They have a small menu consisting noodles and rice plates which you can enjoy on the spot or take out. Very specialized restaurant/store so if you don’t particularly like stewed dishes, you’re pretty much screwed.
