This place is super under rated. Definitely my number one choice on a Friday night! Spicy ramen is the best. Almost better than any other ramen places that I’ve been. Keep up the good work! Gambateh!

My family and I went here on a Sunday night because Kahoo’s wait was too long and Santouka is cash only and this place has decent rating and nearby. We had a short wait but immediately when we were seated, the chef brought us edamame. Hubby and I ordered the Tenma ramen with seaweed and it came out really fast. The ramen was really good just the perfect amount of salt. The chef is really hardworking and very nice.

The broth and noodles were fantastic. I’m also a big fan of places that offer different bowl sizes, but… 1) The Takoyaki was soggy, like really soggy. It’s as if the balls had been sitting out for a while and were stuck in the microwave. 2) I felt like the ramen didn’t include general ingredients that most places do, such as seaweed or the egg. You have to add them for extra. 3) I added the egg, excited to break it open to find the the gooey yolk, but to my disappointment, it was just a hard boiled egg. Meh. I loved that there was no wait, though we did come for a pretty late lunch. I’m sure there’s generally a wait since the place is tiny.

This hole in the wall restaurant is truly a gem. Each time we come in we are warmly welcomed with a family feeling and never leave disappointed. It’s nice to see the same Chef each time. It gives you the feeling that he is focusing on perfecting one dish at a time. The Tenma ramen, the miso ramen and even the San Jose cheese ramen(who would have thought) are all on the top of my list, along with the sweet pork belly appetizer. Freshness is never a question when at Ramen Tenma. Just writing this review is making me want to stop in!

Starving on a cold winter night, but didn’t want to wait in other ramen lines. Dropped by Tenma and didn’t have a line! Plus. Glanced through some Unilocal reviews and got the Tenma ramen. Was decent, but the meat felt a little skimpy and overall not much to the bowl(corn, nori, and the meat). I liked my noodles and broth overall. Husband got the Tonkatsu ramen, didn’t taste any different from mine except his noodles were a weird flour noodle? Didn’t have a translucence to the noodle like mine? It was weird. Plus, barely any toppings. Just meat and bean sprouts I think. I wouldn’t have been happy with that order. Liked the happy hour deal of ordering an Orion beer and getting shrimp gyoza. With everything came out to about $ 30 for two people. Appetizer and drinks included. Takes card which is a plus. Parking is pretty easy at night as well. Would only come back if the lines are terrible at Kahoo, Santouka and Orenchi and feeling desperate for ramen.

One of the saddest meals I’ve ever had. I went with a rice dish because the picture looked bomb and I love sweet pork(I thought It was going to be caramelized pork, and ramen usually always comes with boring meat). Boy was I mistaken… The meat was dry and the bowl was bland. My cousins were very impressed with their ramen either. I wouldn’t recommend coming here. I feel bad for the cook. It looks like they make him do all the work by himself; from cooking to washing dishes for everyone. So tip him well

Pros Tonkotsu Ramen: broth was good and had a thicker consistency without being overly salty. The thin noodles were cooked right. Ramen choices: they have a menu with a variety types of ramen that range from the basic pork broth, miso, and even a vegetarian ramen. They also offer thin, medium, or thick ramen noodles. They also have a separate page of their seasonal ramen. My girlfriend was feeling adventurous and ordered their ninja ramen where the chefs add their own choice of toppings and she loved it. They served their ninja ramen with whole sheet of nori to cover your ramen for an added surprise. Service: since it was a small ramen shop, service was more attentive. The ramen chefs and waitresses were friendly. I thought it was cute how they even offer a trivia question plastered around their shop where you can earn a small prize. Cons Toppings: was disappointed in the lack of toppings per bowl, you have to order additional toppings which end up getting costly. My slice of chasu could also could have used more flavoring.

I think this is a good solid 4 star ramen resturuant. It’s not amazing and the prices are pretty standard. The portion size isn’t too large so it’s actually the perfect size to finish without still feeling hungry or feeling too full. I got the tonkatsu ramen with thin noodles and it was fine, but nothing spectacular. The broth was tasty and not too salty. My friend tried the bonito ramen and enjoyed it. The ramen is made fresh to order and the shop is decorated with signs from customers. The service is great and the overall atmosphere is pleasant. Nothing in particular stood out in my ramen but there were a lot of more interesting menu items I could have tried so I may return again! P. S. if you answer the quiz questions, you can get 2 pieces of seaweed! :)

Order: Ninja Ramen. Medium noodle. Quick service. Complementary side dish: edamame. Friendly staff. I definitely recommend trying their ramen.

Being a big fan of ramen, I am always on the quest to try every ramen place in the Bay Area. Ramen Tenma made it onto my to-go hit list because of their stellar reviews on Unilocal. However, as much as I wanted it to be good, the noodle were nothing to shout about. Hence, it has become my least favorite ramen place so far. Indecisive eaters will be impressed with their extensive menu. Ramen Tenma has 17 different variations of noodles alone!!! A little overwhelmed, I asked the waitress for her recommendations. She told me, all the noodle tasted about the same and has no idea how they are different, errr… what’s the point with these excessive and complicated menus? I finally decided on trying the volcano ramen( Unilocal pictures look promising). It arrived in a modest bowl, but piled up with slices of pork, kimchi, corn, sprouts and green onions. Everything is underwhelming! The broth has no piggy taste whatsoever — no depth, no taste! The noodle tasted like the instant kind(ehem.Shin ramen)! The pork meat was real dry and tough, they also gave you half of fully cooked egg. Worse of all, all the toppings are served fridge cold. This definitely not a noodle worth $ 15! To satisfy your noodle– fix, I would strongly recommend the nearby Santouka for a slurp-worthy ramen experience. Sayonara, Ramen Tenma, I won’t be back.

I don’t know what the hype about this place is all about. Decided to stop by last Sunday(10÷4÷15). I ordered the spicy Volcano and my boyfriend ordered the Tenma original. Our bowls of ramen looked very promising but ended up to be one of the worst ramen we have eaten. Though the(medium) noodles were decent and the pork slices were thick and generous, we found the broth to be awfully salty. I thought it couldn’t get any saltier than at Orenchi but this place tops it off. I usually clear my whole bowl at Ramen Dojo and Santuka but I couldn’t even get myself to finish half of my bowl here. The service was great though.

I am disappointed at this place. We ordered two Tenma original and one Tonkotsu. I felt the Tenma original was too salty, probably 50% more saltier than the average but to my surprise the Tonkotsu is even more saltier. We could not finish the Tonkotsu. The broth taste is average(honestly I can’t really tell for sure becuase it is sooooooo salty) Basically for $ 9 entry level ramen you will get noodle, one piece of meat and highly concentrated brine liquid. We were lookng for In’n Out burger after leaving the resturant.

I got veggie miso late on a Friday. Pretty packed. Such tight quarters I got hit twice and I was only in for a take out. My soup was really plain, but I suppose miso is. I would be willing to try it again. Everyone else looked like they liked it.

Ramen is eh. The place smells like someone left the bathroom door open and the stench lingered throughout the room. Staff isn’t friendly. Overall, not impressed.

Tenma has a special/kooky vibe, but that’s not enough to keep it flourishing. Bay Area foodies: holla at me if you feel like we have so many ramen joints, it’s hard to pinpoint a «favorite» or a «all-time best» spot. I think Tenma is super close to nailing it, but it still pales in flavor and quantity compared to other spots like newcomer Myzen in Sunnyvale or old-timer Kahoo in Cupertino. Sure they have a great wall of activities for kids(and other fun surprises like their«gift boxes» for purchase), but the limited seating and small quantity of ingredients is a let down. Came here for lunch on a weekday, and surprisingly there was no wait! I had their Bonito ramen(mmm fish flakes) and the flavor of the soup was perfect… not too salty, and with a creamy-feel. The let down was that the ingredients on the side were lacking… as a fish-eater/non-meat nommer I was hoping for some bamboo or bigger portion of corn or even some greens… but that wasn’t there. Service is whatever and very efficient. Shoutout to the lone girl who doubled as the cashier and server. She brought us water on time and was adequate, but not overbearing at all. The ramen chef was also very quick and did his thing. I think the improvements they need to make are to include more fans for air control as well as up-ing their side amounts… we’re paying a lot for ramen these days in Silicon Valley, so that should show in the price tag!

A very small restaurant with very limited seating. The ramen’s default toppings are not as fancy as other ramen joints. I like the thick noodles! Some of the ramen comes with different noodles, but I believe you can request a change. Ordered Okinawa shoyu ramen, it was ok – I never had okinawa ramen before so not the right person to judge its authenticity. The rice/don for ramen set has smaller portion(about half of what you get from Santouka)

3.5, but rounded up to 4. I’d heard from several friends about this place so I wanted to give it a try. It’s a nice hole-in-the-wall with only a couple of tables and one waitress/one chef. We ordered spicy ramen and kimchi ramen. The egg was nicely cooked, but slightly on the over side. The pork was good, but a bit salty. The broth was good, but nothing stand-outish. What really made this bowl of ramen amazing was the noodles themselves! They had the perfect springiness and chew with really nice flavor! Other places may do different parts more superiorly, but Tenma definitely has some of the best noodles I’ve ever had! Also fun are the numerous trivia quizzes they have hanging around the restaurant — if you can solve them, you get 2 free pieces of nori(seaweed)! Next time I come, I want to try the curry ramen they have on the menu… they were out of that when I tried to order it that night. Until then!

As our day grew longer on this Saturday hunger pang struck again. It came in waves. More like every three hours! Unilocal led us to this hole in the wall. There’s only three actual tables in this place. The rest of it was a small counter by the entrance. We saw the lone chef and the only female server. Authentic as they come. So cute! I tried the Tokyo Curry plate. It comes with soup. A dose of their curry on top of some rice with a thin layer of pork meat between the rice and the curry sauce. A generous portion of cheese tops this creation. One hard boiled egg split in half. Salad. I was worried I wouldn’t like this entrée. Guess what? I will have it again! We shared their All Star Dessert. I’ll skip this next time. It looked like mochi but dry. Very nice staff. Our lone server was very busy but she was able to stop and enlighten me when I was curious about lets just say many things! The chef? Not a peep but constantly producing pretty good ramen and curry fast!

3.5 stars I came here specifically for the Okinawan soba. The noodles are generally thinner than I am used to back in the motherland but I suppose I cannot be too picky. The broth had a good flavor to it but what really, REALLY made it a good bowl was the ko-re-gu-su(コーレーグースー), a mixture of chilis in Okinawan liquor(awamori). That is what ties everything together and makes for a great bowl of soba. This is especially important because the rest of the components just cannot be compared to the real stuff by any means. My friends ordered the tsukemen and another bowl of ramen, both were solid dishes. I’m glad I decided to come back here to give it another try. I first tried this place a couple of years ago and the soba was just not doing it for me. On occasion, the food court in Mitsuwa sells Okinawan soba but I’m not so sure these days. I will be back for another bowl of Oki soba when I get the chance :-)

I would actually give this place a 3.5 to be accurate. I came here on a Friday night after work around 7 and there was no line yet but we got the last table and there was a line starting to build up. It’s a pretty small place so it should fill up quickly. They also let you solve riddles for free nori. Not much, but its a fun game. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen which could’ve used a little more flavor to me, but it was pretty delicious still. It doesn’t come with egg so I had to order it. no bueno. And it would have been amazing if they had under cooked it a liiiitle more, then it would’ve been perfect. My boyfriend got the Tenma Ramen which had garlic in addition to the tonkotsu which I wish I got. WAhHH Also the regular Tonkotsu comes with thin noodles, and the Tenma Ramen comes with medium noodles. I didn’t like the thin noodles, definitely get medium, or maybe even thick. I did not see those though, so not sure how thick they are. We also got the potato cheese appetizer. hehehe. If you read my reviews you know I’m super biased toward cheese. SO I LOVEDTHISDISH. it tasted like baked potato. haha my boyfriend was like what the heck, but he still liked it too. I recommend this to all them cheese lovers out there.
