Cute décor date place. But super small and thought they would offer more with their wine pairings

I live in the neighborhood and often come to wine jar for a quick and easy place to grab some wins and cheese. Generally you’ll have to walk up to the bar to get service but it’s never too crowded. As mentioned, there is wine and cheese but that’s about it. You shouldn’t come here expecting a full meal.

Late afternoon is a nice time to head over to this neighborhood bar, with nice outdoor seating and not too shabby of interior décor. Good selection of wine. If you happen to arrive before 5:30 or some time around there, you get somewhat a discount, I think. We sat by the bar and caught up before dinner. The lady was very attentive. He wanted to know if they had red screw top because he’s finishing up his elder kid’s costume and needed it. She made a switch between a white and red bottle and handed the cap. Just like that. I asked for a napkin to spit out of my gum, before I realized it was slipped under my glass. It’s that kind of attentive service makes this wine bar special. I suspect it is a good spot for afternoon rendezvous. As we were leaving, a few other patrons started to trickle in.

Came here on a Saturday evening to catch up with a high school friend because it was hard to find low noise level joints for decent conversation and drinks in the area. There were relatively less people compared to other bars and atmosphere was perfect. We got our own booth which was nice but it was too big for our party of three. Probably good for groups of 6. Cozy and roomy at the same time. Decent prices for bottles of wine to share, especially during their happy hour, 20% off bottles. Get your food to go from neighboring restaurants and come here to enjoy it with friends. Only three stars because of low selection and variety on snacking option.

Great ambiance! The wine list includes a good variety. We had a great Malbec. We celebrated a birthday party amongst friends… Wasn’t too loud, we had our own area and table… Overall great wine bar experience! We will be back!

It’s a tiny place for groups and doesn’t have too many staff to accommodate customers. The bartender was really nice and the atmosphere was cool.

Cute bar with great wine. I had two glasses of their torrentes, because it was just that good. I also tried the two types of wine my date had, which I can’t recall the names of, but they were also pretty great. I’m definitely coming back again.

A great neighborhood spot! They recently added some new wines and the Pinot Noir I had was delicious!(It is the one from Sonoma but I am blanking on name.) I am excited to try the other new additions soon!

Barbera is my new favorite red! How do I know? Because I tried it at the Wine Jar. After a movie we drifted in here on our way to dinner. Because hey, wine bars are cool, and it was open! Didn’t want to pass it up and wait 3 years for another chance. Inside there were some window seats, a couple of banquettes, one in a booth, and a bunch of bar seats. We chose a banquette setting outside the booth. A cheerful waitstaffperson(it’s SF, OK?) informed us that while some of the menu items might be out of stock, any substitution would be the same varietal. All right. Our choices ran from a glass at $ 11 to a bottle around $ 120. Something for every taste, right? We started with some sparkling wines; mine was a prosecco that was not sweet at all. So much for past experience and stereotypes! This prosecco I would classify as brut and it was delicious! Round two for me was a barbera and, oops, here came the substitution. But the sommelier or bartender or wino authority in the back room obviously had taste! Smooth is only the beginning of this wine. It had legs and body and no aftereffects. Except maybe I’m a little tipsy now; there’s a reason I observe a 2 drink limit these days. Conversation around our table was congenial and intimate. Conversation at a nearby table sounded like a first date. This brought me to reflect that even in my single years, I was not a dater. More power to you, brave singles! Our tab for 4 glasses was $ 52 + tip. Our gratitude to the waitstaffperson for her friendly advice, and then it was on to dinner. Wine. Try it. Let the experts on site guide you, and you may find a new favorite.

I came here last night in hopes to have a drink while my boyfriend and I waited for our reservation down the street. The bar itself is super cute and I was excited to try somewhere new. We sat at the bar, which ended up being a poor decision because our conversation and mood was instantly taken over by the bartenders’ conversation. They literally were venting about how their girlfriend won’t let them help pick a fabric for the nook in their house… Wtf? Is it really so important that you ignore customers and talk crap about your girlfriend loud enough to ruin our night. I thought it was pretty unprofessional to discuss these things at work, at the front of the bar where customers are right next to you. Calling your girlfriend a bitch and dropping F bombs isn’t my idea of professional at work conversation. Needless to say this place instantly killed our mood we had one drink, paid(with no tip) and got outta there. Hopefully management sees that they need some fresh bartenders with better attitudes quick!

If you want your day to be spoiled by an incredibly rude bartender, go there. I was enjoying a sunny day and decided to have a glass of wine, when I stumbled upon this place. Since the moment I entered I was bossed by the bartender. I am pretty easy going so, I let it go, ordered my wine and sat outside to do some writing. When I wanted to pay he said there was a $ 15 minimum for cards. I looked for cash but only had $ 7. My bill was $ 10 for a glass of wine. The standard charge for a card transaction is 2%. I offered him to pay 50 cents extra plus a generous tip. I just didn’t want to pay $ 15. He told me that he was going to charge me $ 15. or I had to pay with cash. i tried to ask him nicely to help me out, but he told me to pay 15NOW. i reminded him that by law the minimum was $ 10 — which was my bill and he was violating the law. He went on to forcefully take the card from my hand without even giving me a second to react. i said, «don’t charge $ 15» he told said ‘GETOUT’ read rude tone. A girl standing by got so freaked out by his rudeness that she looked at me empathizing and left. I needed my card so I waited. Then he gave me the card and receipt and shouted. DON’T LOOKATMELIKETHAT, LEAVEANDNEVERCOMEBACK. Regardless of the card minimum, is it worth it being this rude and loosing 2 costumers — and possibly more — for $ 5 bucks. I didn’t even say anything back at him since it isn’t worth it. Wow, i pass bad wine, bad food, but rude dudes that take off whatever issues they have with costumers is something that shouldn’t happen. Now reading other reviews it seems like it’s a theme. Management: is time to work not only on costumer service but on pure decency. That dude should not interact with anyone.

Stumbled upon this place after dinner on a cold evening, and I was welcomed by the warmth and coziness of this place. However, I thought it was just the wrong night or the wrong time, but a bad service seems to be a common theme for most customers of this wine bar. The bartender was not welcoming or friendly at all. My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered a bottle of wine, she literally almost just dumps the wine into the glasses… hence, killing my appetite. I mean she works at a wine bar, can’t she pour it better? At least, put a smile on your face, will ya? Besides the bad experience with the unfriendly bartender, the place itself is actually pretty nice. I like the whole intimate ambiance and the wine selection. It is a perfect place for a small date or catching up with few friends, if the bartender wasn’t there. Wine Selection: A– Ambiance: A+ Service: D

Laid back wine bar where you can make yourself at home. Love coming here to unwind with a glass or two whether solo or with friends. You can bring in outside eats, but I still wish they had more in house food offerings apart from a cheese plate with mixed nuts and bread.

Wine Jar has a very good selection of wine, as you would expect. I had a glass of Malbec and one of the Sauvignon Blancs. Both were good, a better quality than most of the wine I’ve bought in stores, and a decent amount too. They have a nice outdoor seating area, but the place inside is a bit small — this led to a rapid escalation of sound that forced us to yell after 5 – 10 minutes. I hate being in places with bad acoustics, I shouldn’t need ear plugs for a wine bar. I’ll come back here at some point after I’ve tried a variety of others — the price wasn’t a plus point but I did just miss the happy hour.

A new favorite local rendezvous spot for my hubby and I. The décor is intimate and luring taking me back in into a time capsule and allowing me to enjoy this spectacular bottle of Rioja with my husband. Enchanted by the exquisite conversations while enjoying the sexy and silky Spanish wine. The cheese plate came with three different selections of cheese, assorted nuts and thin crackers which complimented our wine elegantly. Its a fun place to people watch since most couples come here for their dates whether it be a first date or second date it’s quite interesting to acknowledge that after a few glasses of wine they’re all laughing and flirting courageously. Come for the wine and stay for the love affair. There’s a great happy hour as well.

Do not go here. We have had bad waiter experiences but this is the worst we experienced in the U.S. so far. Uninterested and arrogant.

Great spot to hit up for Happy Hour before a movie at the Kabuki or dinner on Fillmore. Wine list is decent, and happy hour is 20% off all bottles which are decently priced.

I’ve been on a wine kick lately. It’s the elegance of it, the subtlety of its flavors, the richness of the reds and the clarity of the whites, the internationalism of it all. Wine exemplifies how I want my life to be: elegant with a hint of booze. Wine Jar is the best place for wine on Fillmore. They serve a good selection in glasses and bottles(with discounts during happy hour), and offer a food menu as well. Whether you’re on a date for two or just for one, you can’t go wrong with Wine Jar.

We just had our 2nd annual Christmas party here. Jeff is so great to us and 12 girls can be loud. Thanks for putting up with us and being such a great host! See you next December if not before! Thanks Jeff!

Having worked in Pac Heights for some time now, I can’t believe I didn’t know about this place… Especially when you’re in the mood for a glass of wine — after a long day of work — this helps wonders. I reccomend coming by during their happy hour — 20% off on all their bottles of wine. I tried out the Pinot Noir Russian River and it was perfect. Will definitely swing by again soon.
