If you need to have a copy of a key made, this is the place to go. After three failed attempts by Pacific Heights Hardware to make a copy of the key for my front door, I came to Standard 5&10 Ace. They got it right the first time.

A shortened version of what was posted last week shall be kept up here… in the hopes that the changes that should be made will be. The owners are great… and have a wide selection of goods in the Dime Store and in the Kitchen Store, adjacent. The cashiers are great, the staff are very helpful. On the Ace Hardware side, I use the cashiers in the back. Nice older short lady there with blondish hair, has a hearing problem she has worked out well it seems, nice attitude!, or a quieter dark haired lady in her early 40’s, probably, that cashiers. Both good! Sometimes the staff doesn’t know products, and send you back and forth between the Kitchen Store and Ace Hardware sides. Very frustrating. Paint and Keys are OK, no problems yet with them. Got what I needed and it was done right! Cards are nice, but I found Papyrus a few doors away has better cards. I did get some good toys and board games for Christmas, although higher priced. In the Kitchen Store, there is a tall skinny guy, looks about 55 to 60 years of age, that knows everything — get his help. Probably the most diplomatic in the store. Another in there is a woman about early 40’s, who talks baby talk, that seems helpful, but is all over you the minute you walk in, smothering, harassing… and seemed to get into people’s business a lot, observed talking about«running out» someone. Doesn’t know the products. . The products are relatively high priced. The Kitchen side was freezing when I went in there, no heat. So be ready to run out if it is cold or breezy weather. One more thing: You all are paying WHAT for that new space? $ 30,000 a month, I heard? It seems like the expansion of the store was badly botched by someone who didn’t know what they were doing, both in the lease and what was done.

been coming here for years — but probably won’t be back after an interaction that could have been handled better. i bought an adjustable wrench on Thursday night that was too small and attempted to return today(2 days later) item was in mint condition but they apparently have a rule of not accepting tools for returns. i can almost understand this policy in case someone buys a large, expensive tool, uses it, and returns it. however, an 8 dollar, 6 inch adjustable wrench that didn’t fit over a shower head is a different story. zero discretion in their policy here and for that reason, i left the much larger, more expensive wrench i was going to buy instead along with another item on the counter and told them i wouldn’t give them any more of my money. sorry, Ace, time to rethink your return policy and/or use a little common sense. in the meantime, i’ll be buying a practically identical wrench on Amazon for less than half the price of yours($ 14.99 compared to $ 6.80). ouch.

A lot of knock knack store. Basically, can find anything you want here. Prices are average to moderate. Staff friendly. There’s just something a little store that can provide that Target or Home Depot don’t provide. I love coming here to browse for things.

I always have a good experience here. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I buy everything from birthday gifts to household cleaning items. Guenther is very sweet and attentive to the customers. Love this place. Keep up the good work!

This store carries everything! Toys, hardware greeting cards etc. We popped in here after a dental appt to browse. I found what is akin to the holy grail of school supplies 12 ct Crayola markers! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been looking for these! Target and all the stores only carried 10 ct. If you’re looking for 12, this is it. I also found a small supply of Hello Kitty merchandise. Wonderful store! Support your local businesses!

Needed some paint for our ratty-looking bookshelves, and tho we don’t live near Ace Hardware anymore, I knew they would have what I wanted as to quality, brands, and service(… and parking! never underestimate parking esp. in SF). Well, Ace came through perfectly in the person of Jonna, who kindly and efficiently answered my questions and took care to be sure I had what I needed. That’s called ‘value’ and ‘service’, folks, and it doesn’t come better than at Ace in Laurel Village. Oh, and remember there’s parking right out the back — not to be underestimated in SF. Have been happily painting away today, and the paint is just what we wanted. Also, my trip there reminded me that their products are of very good quality and style — not what the usual hardware store would stock. THANKYOU!

If you can’t find what you want, chances are it might be on the shelves here. I can’t believe how often I’ve gone in and found something that was not available at the chain stores or other independents. I’ve been told they can order it if they don’t have it. The staff is so always friendly and helpful. I wonder how long it takes them to study their inventory. Everyone whom I’ve ever asked gets me to the right aisle and the right shelf. Amazing! It is worth the drive across town to shop here. Watch the time though, you may be late to your next appointment. So many discoveries walking down the aisle.

Great hardware and corner store! Reasonable prices and they have everything! My only wish is that they were open later. Also, they give a lot of coupons.

I do not know how they do it in such a confined space but you can seriously find almost anything here. Just picked up more propane for the grill(check), A bamboo cutting board as a present(check), cut some more house keys(check)…easy peasy. Help is always great here they will come up to you and help you… the antithesis of home dumpo or whatever. Highly recommend.

A decent little store. The selection isn’t as large as a OSH or Home Depot, but then again I can walk here and they have most items I need for that quick little home repair. The staff is pretty friendly, just make sure you don’e wait until you are checking out to ask for help — thay may get you a little dirty look from the person behind the register.

I’ve shopped here for many years and like the greeting card selection. The housewares and odds and ends are also pretty varied in selection. However, they staff here can vary in helpfulness. Yesterday, I shopped for two lounge chairs. I asked the Asian clerk in the back of the store about the lounge chairs on display out in front of the store on California. He replied there are no chairs out there. Well, there was and I wanted to know more about it. He didn’t move to help me nor did he call for anyone else. I kind of gave up and then found another clerk who glad fetched the chair for me. Sometimes you have to be persistent!

Great spot for a last second toy gift for a friend’s daughter. Early on a Sunday morning, you don’t have a lot of options close by, so we stopped by. Looks like a mini Target or something, where they sell a little bit of everything.

This store is really exceptional. They have a wide variety of stuff, a super helpful staff, and prices that are competitive with whatever you’d find at a big box or online. This weekend we purchased a grill that we had researched online. We wanted to buy it locally and were willing to pay a little more to feel good about supporting a local business but lo and behold, Standard 5&10 had it at the same price as Amazon and delivered it to our door for free within an hour! The guys who helped us out were incredibly friendly and helpful and we’re thrilled with our purchase.

A cozy little Five and Ten like variety store that exists in a small street shopping center. I’m amazed how small this place is yet still has everything you need and want. Although today I went to get some logs for the fireplace and they were out. So the catch is, they might have everything you need but they won’t have tons of it. The prices are a little more expensive but what can you expect compared to Costco? It’s a convenient place to go especially if you’re too busy to drive all the way down to Costco or another large store. The people are very friendly and helpful and I’ve never been here longer than 10 minutes without finding what I need. There’s a Starbucks nearby too so it’s convenient to pick up some evil corporate coffee on your way out.

Not enough of these exist anymore! Not as if I am old enough to remember them, but I have been told! Today I bought a lovely card here! They also have a FABULOUS selection of random Giants things(beanie babies, pennants, shirts, Mr. Potato Heads, baseballs). Anyplace with Giants things wins points in my book. Great toys selections, garden things, house things, decorative stuff for the house, pretty paper and stationary and cards, lots o candy! I throughly appreciate this place. One of the hidden gems of the boringness of Laurel Village baby stores and icky food places.

Call me a hardware whore… I love hardware stores, so I have to not get too excited or I’d just give them all five stars. That being said this particular Ace hardware is above middling on the hardware store scale. Which is true for most Ace’s. Folks who work here are really nice and they have a lot of fun non-hardware things in stock like toys, stationery and party decorations. They’re good at explaining products to you too. So the only drawback is that the prices aren’t at all cheap. 5&10 my azz! But it almost gets a fifth star anyway, because it’s the only part of Laurel Village that doesn’t scream upscale privilege.

I love this place. They have everything. It’s always fun to go in and see what they’re offering gadget wise and also for must haves. On Thanksgiving eve I realized I had been a little aggressive in my inviting… and didn’t have enough table space for the group soon to be supping. Did I want to pay $ 44.99 for a folding table, when for $ 54.99 you can get a folding table AND4 chairs @ Target? No. But the point is, they had a table, there’s plenty of parking in the Laurel Village lot behind the store, and it’s bloody convenient, and you can get personalized friendly service, and I hate going to Target.

An old-fashioned shop with an old-fashioned approach to customer service… a place where you really enjoy going up and down the aisles browsing. There is always something you forgot you could use and few items are so expensive that you have to think twice about making the purchase. It’s a department store, hardware store, gift wrap/card shop, and toy store all rolled into one. Don’t expect the lines to hustle along, but feel free to expect help in finding something; if you don’t see it, just ask. Impatient people may get frustrated in this slower, user-friendly environment. It’s a throwback to the simple 50s when cars had wings and ladies’ hair looked like Marge Simpson’s.
