I bought the veggie cheese and Mike’s firehouse cheese curds at the Valencia farmers market and they are DELICIOUS. I highly recommend this cheese, as it is creamy and packed with flavor. The stand has plenty of options and you can try samples!

spring hill itself has a long history. however, the artisan cheese biz began in 1998. the cheese is all natural(organic), 100% is from cultured grade a jersey milk, salt & enzymes. no artificial hormones are added. basically, the cows eat ate grass, get milked, the milk is made into cheese. nothing added. locale: locale: grand lake farmers market samples available that you can pick up by using toothpicks sampling: –mike’s firehouse jack(13.99/lb) nice creaminess with some hot peppers added. footnotes –cheese vacuumed packed. price on package –not a cheese addict, but a nibbler at times. –can taste difference. regular cheese kind of flat… –will indulge occassionally… –butter sample was very sweet. in hindsight, it tasted better than the cheese.

You can find this food stand locally, at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and the Alemany Farmers Market, as well as a few other bay area markets. Their dairy products are also used by a few bay area fine dining restaurants. They sell different varieties of cheddar and monterey jack cheeses, plus a few specialty cheeses. The best part is that you get to sample every single cheese for free(use toothpicks to help yourself to samples from open containers). Butter and soft cheese samples are available by request, served on a small toast. What caught my attention was their delicious butter($ 5), I had not tasted butter this good in a long time. This is the closest you’ll get to home churned butter, without the work. It’s similar to Plugra brand european-style butter, but this is better because it’s organic and hormone free. Available salted(for table use) and unsalted(for cooking). I also bought a white cheddar cheese($ 12.99/lb. so each portion is about ~$ 6). Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, definitely ask for a sample of the butter. Delicious! Cash only. ************************************** On a separate note: this cattle farm & separate creamery are located in Petaluma, CA — and during the month of October(right now!!) the farm is open to the public(daily 9am — dusk) for the«Great Peter Pumpkin Patch», with activities for kids, hay rides, hay tower, hay maze, cheese tasting, pumpkin ice cream, pick/buy pumpkins & potatoes, and live music on weekends. See video here: Enjoy!

A myriad of choices, a helpful staff who encourages sampling and loves to educate you about the products… not to mention some pretty darn good cheese! As Fern stated, the butters are impressive and even cheeses have a distinctly pleasant buttery flavor to them. Lots of nuance. Grab some bread from Acme or Della Frattoria, slather it with some cheese from Spring Hill — enjoy!

I visited the actual farm and Peter’s pumpkin patch at petaluma. I found out about this place while checking out the farm trails event last weekend, and my boyfriend decided he really want to milk a cow, so we are off to Spring Hill Jersey Cheese to check out the cows and get our hand on milking them. we end up milking the cow, eating the pumkin ice cream for $ 1, tasting the milk fresh from the cow, and looked at pumpkins. Their neighbor has some sheep as well, who all ran away as I start to meh at them, oh well. the cheese has a higher butterfat content due to the jersey cows, and they are organic, most of the cheese are 11.99 a pound, which is a really good price for organic cheese. My boyfriend likes the sage a lot, but with all their cheese you are sure to find one you like! They are available at ferry building and alemany farmer’s market I believe. I heart the cows and hope you will consider buying their cheese as well. We gotta support the local dairy else they won’t really survive! Super cute cows and they are slightly boney because all their effort went into the milk, but I do love their big big eyes, pleading, as if to say, «respect the cheese!»

It’s like buttah… Did you know that Jersey cows(as opposed to New York) make better butter? Just kidding on the NY part. ;) Anyhow, if you love butter as much as I do, run, don’t walk, to the Spring Hill Jersey Cheese Co. tent. They churn out some incredible butter that is soooo good, you could eat it on its own! Ok, maybe I only do that… Anyway, it’s so good you won’t want to cook with it. Rather, you should enjoy and savor the homemade creamy, buttery goodness on a baguette or crackers – whatever – just get some!
