I work a block away from this location and many of my co-workers have been raving about this place for months now so i decided to give them shot, and i was NOT disappointed. Some of the other reviews on here speak highly of the staff’s service, and they are SPOT on. The staff here make’s you feel truly welcomed and they take care of their restaurant as if it is their own home. There is a difference between providing excellent customer service and providing heartfelt genuine service, and I felt right at home as soon as i walked in the door. I was recommended by their manager to give the crispy chicken sandwich a try and I was shocked by everything about it, from its southern style fried chicken, juicy and crispy, cooked to perfection sitting on a JALAPENO slaw with black bean sauce spread on top, in one word, BOMB. If anyone reading this hasn’t been here, stop by, order a anything on the menu because you WILLNOT be disappointed, and make sure to smile and say hi to their staff, because i promise they will smile and wave RIGHT back. ^^b

When I was working on Stevenson, I heard about a new joint opening up that was also owned by Mixt Greens. Everyday I would pass, I would smell the most amazing rotisserie scent so one day I said, let’s do it! The place is clean and efficient. There’s stanchions helping the line move along, two cashiers and lots of folks getting the food out. I like that they have a water and condiment station with lots of the to go packaging. For lunch, I got the Presidio salad for $ 9.95: Baby kale, shaved parmesan, roasted cauliflower, roasted sweet potato, toasted almonds, whole grain mustard vinaigrette and there’s an option to add spit roasted pulled chicken $ 3. The vinaigrette wasn’t too powerful, lots of shaved parmesan and the chicken included both white and dark meat. It was a lot for the price and super filling. I would definitely return for another item on the menu or the salad I had that day. Great option for a quick lunch!

I love this spot. I have worked on Stevenson st for 10 yrs now so I have seen a lot of cool places come and go but this one will be here for a while I’m sure. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu the Jersey Ham breakfast sandwich is the best thing ever and you can’t beat the fried chicken sandwiches ANYOFTHEM. I absolutely must give a special shot out to the new GM Rick, he’s amazing always professional and friendly. He will keep you smiling from the time you walk in to the time your walk out the door.

The Split Bread Squad — or SBS, as I call them — makes your day better, without fail. The SBS is a threesome of friendly characters that always ask how you’re doing and really want to hear you answer. Better than their disarming and unique personalities, charm, and effort, the SBS is empowered to give out the occasional free cookie, and more! I’ve gone more than 10 times for lunch and pretty much only eat no. 85 Crispy Chicken Parm. I normally love variety in food(and Squad threesomes) but this sandwich is that good I never get tired. The bread is solid and the chicken is always money, albeit sometimes a tiny bit smaller than I’d like. Lastly, the cookies are awesome. Overall 5 stars for service and lunch.

The bread needs more structure. Its very soft and my burger was a delicious patty and fresh veggies with a mushy flat bun.

This review is for the Split-breakfast sandwich. Came in craving a breakfast sandwich with a fried egg and bacon and damn did this place nail it! Think of an adult version of a breakfast jack from that chain that serves breakfast all day. This thing was perfectly cooked with thick cut applewood bacon, a fried egg with a perfectly runny yolk and ooey-gooey melted cheese and topped with baby arugula. I would recommend it to anyone trying to solve their breakfast cravings, it may look small but it’s surprisingly filling. You can also get it with house made sausage. Give it a shot, that little breakfast craving troll in your stomach with pleased that you did…

I see this place as an upgraded Panera. I’ve only been once even though it’s only around the corner from my school. Now that I’ve been I want to go more often! My sandwich was really enjoyable and filling.

Came here in the morning and luckily, there was no line. There was about 4 other people sitting in the restaurant and they seemed to be minding their own business. The noise level here was very low. I usually don’t eat breakfast(which is something I need to fix…) but I decided to check out this place and place an order. I ordered the fried egg sandwich, which sounded tasty, and waited a couple of minutes for my order. After taking the first bite, I thought«okay, let’s take another bite to try it out». I took another bite, and another bite, and another bite but the flavor was bland. I ended up eating all of it but wasn’t satisfied at all.

I got the No 72, which was supposed to be BBQ pulled chicken. They definitely could have put some BBQ sauce on this sandwich, cause the chicken was drier than the Sahara Desert. The chicken just kind of turned into this paste in my mouth, not appetizing. My other beef with this place was the guy taking the orders. Maybe he thought he was being funny. I walked up to the counter, and he said«Hows your day?». I replied” Good, can I get a No 72″. Maybe he didn’t hear me… He replies: «I said… How was your day?» Excuse me?! I’m here to order my food, and your are preventing me from doing that because you want to know how my day is going? So you won’t take my order until I tell you, well I don’t see how its any of your business! I am here to order a sandwhich, do your job. … I was more than a bit miffed.

This review is for the sandwich #91, which unless I’m mistaken is their only vegetarian sandwich. This sandwich isn’t cheap at ~$ 11 but it’s SOGOOD. The combination of the flavors from the basil, mint, and arugula pair perfectly with the sweetness of the tomato and fig and the creaminess from the cheese. The size of the tomato and fig pieces are massive, which does make this sandwich a little bit awkward to eat. The juices also soak into the bottom piece of bread so if you mind your sandwich getting soggy then this one might not be for you. If I’m ever in the mood for a heavy lunch I’ll come back and try the fried chicken sammies.

3.5 stars! I stopped by here for a quick lunch with my friend — not too crowded during lunch time, and the line moves by pretty quickly. They have sandwiches, burgers, and salads as well as a few sides also. I went ahead and ordered the D’lux burger which included a grass-fed patty, avocados, carmelized onions, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, blue cheese, and chipotle aioli to tie it all together. The combination was good, and the burger was just right. They didn’t ask how I wanted my burger, but it came out to be juicy and not dry at all. There is a lovely grass area outside as well as outside seating. Grab your food and join the fellow yuppies of SF outside for a solid meal!

I came here for a sandwich. cuz I figured it’d be wrong to order something without bread when the word«Bread» is in the name of the restaurant. I got the pork shoulder sandwich(#40) and it was AMAZZZING. and apparently I got the last one. It was fatty and greasy. and I probably should’ve just had a burger, but I didn’t. Its probably not the best food to have during a business meeting. but hey, you live and your learn. It was small though. and pricey. But that’s kind of the theme of all lunch spots in FiDi. Also got the Arnold Palmer. the lemonade is super tart here, so I didn’t even notice that their iced tea isn’t sweetened(:SHAKESFIST:). It was super refreshing and light. yum! Other folks in my part ordered salads. Haha, probably the more proper thing to eat. but I definitely enjoyed my sandwich more than they enjoyed their salads. Hahah, whoopsies. oh well.

Food that’s fast, fresh, and pretty. I came here during a busy lunch hour with my colleagues, and I loved how easy it was to order. Anytime a menu keeps it short, simple yet complex, and throws a number in front of the menu item, I am grateful. I fully admit to being one of those customers that takes a really long time to order with too many options. It took me a bit of time to decide, because everything on the menu looked wonderfully enticing. Fast comfort food… My eyes went to the grassfed burger options, but then #57 called out to me and I ordered up the spit pit roasted pork belly ‘Cuban’, smoked duroc ham, swiss cheese, house pickles, split mustard on griddled ciabatta. It was so worth it! 1) It was spicy in a great way, and 2) Huge. I should have eaten half but I couldn’t stop because it was so good. I regret not ordering, or noticing the split fries with herbs and shaved parmesan on the menu, but thankfully my coworkers ordered up and I got to try a few. Unbelievably wow. Just the right amount of salt and herb wrapped into one. Overall, I highly recommend this stop for anyone on the go or in a hurry to eat. The food is high quality and fresh. The restaurant has a cool vibe. The food is honestly really good. Don’t pass this one by. Next time I’m getting the burger…

Let’s cut right to the chase: I had the No. 91(heirloom tomatoes, fresh burrata, black mission fig jam, basil, mint, and arugula, on toasted ciabatta; $ 10.95), and although it was tasty(although there wasn’t actually any mint or jam, just chunks of fig falling out), it was one of the wettest sandwiches I have ever eaten in my life. And because it was just sooooooooo messy, it actually took away from the flavor as so much of my eating was concentrated on not getting the sandwich juice literally everywhere on everything(my shirt, my pants, the person to the left of me [she got some on her sleeve, shhhhhhhh! don’t tell], the person to the left of me, in my hair, all over my face, etc.). I’m also bummed that this was my lone vegetarian option. If I came here again, I would try a salad(specifically the«Feel Good»: which included mixt greens, avocado, chickpeas, quinoa, radish, edamame, cucumber, red onion, fresh herbs, cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette) — they seemed like the better deal. Same price point as a sandwich, but seemingly way more bang for your buck. Other than the disappointing food experience, the staff seemed friendly enough and busted through the lengthy queue in a pretty speedy manor; the space itself seemed airy and clean, though I would advise to sit outside if the weather permits!

A great lunch spot for sandwiches and salads. I went halves in the chicken parmy sandwich and the kale Cesar with a friend. The Cesar was good, the but the chicken parmy sandwich was unreal! Definitely not weight-loss material, but a comforting warm savoury lunch indulgence. I also tried my first Arnold Palmer here, don’t laugh I’m Australian! It’s a refreshing split of lemonade and iced tea named after the golfer(for other foreigners wondering), perfect for a warm summer’s day.

If you need a hearty salad or a big door-stop of a sandwich then Split Bread is a great option for lunch. There’s plenty of seating, though you’ll still need to wait if you get here too late in the lunch rush. Pay at the counter and take your table buzzer while you scope out somewhere to sit. When the buzzer goes off your meal is ready and you can dive on in. The spit roasted chicken is pretty tasty and I enjoyed it in a salad along with mountains of greens and roast sweet potato and cauliflower. I like that I could choose how much dressing was put in my salad — «medium» was the perfect amount.

I can’t believe they have breakfast! I tried their latte, which I subbed with almond milk. I had the Jersey sandwich and sampled the avocado toast. I loved the avocado toast because 1. I love avocados 2. I love fried eggs 3. I never heard of an avocado toast before 4.Repeat 1&2 :) I loved everything about the avocado toast. I liked the red pepper flakes on the runny yolk and how the yolk softens the toast. It was the perfect bite. The Jersey sandwich was delicious! Sharp cheddar cheese, fried egg and ham?! Yummmm! I wish I had added some of that red pepper avocado onto the Jersey sandwich now that would be AMAZING! Coffee was good. Strong and slightly bitter just how I like my lattes. I wish they opened a Split bread by the other Mixt Green on Sansome! I really wanted the 85 chicken parm sandwich for lunch! :( I like how spacious this location is! Love the booth seating! The staff was nice and patient as I was contemplating on what to get.

This place could be great, but the execution is sub par. Service: The people working here seem very overwhelmed. Ordering is slow, and one girl in particular needs the order repeated several times. Every time I’ve gone to her register, she forgets 1 – 2 items on my order. Also, she’ll sometimes forget to give you your drink. And in a weird turn of events, on one morning when there was a sizable line of people waiting to order breakfast(around 8am), three employees came out from behind the counter and just sat down at a table and ate a leisurely breakfast. Seems a little weird and unprofessional, but maybe their shifts were over? Who knows… Food: Some things are really good, other things not-so-much. The No. 10 Split Roasted Porchetta sandwich is really dry and lacking in flavor. The overpriced Split Fries are soggy and flavorless — I had maybe two miniscule flecks of Parmesan cheese in mine… The avocado toast with runny egg is really awesome, but impossible to eat without proper, metal silverware(so perhaps just eat it there?). The No. 04 Split Roasted Chicken sandwich is the bomb, but for me it has too much arugula(easy to fix). The Presidio Salad would be good if it were prepared properly. Chop and toss. Chop and toss. Don’t give me these massive, awkward pieces of kale(and, by the way, a lot of other random lettuce that shouldn’t have been in there) with toppings scattered around randomly. Oh, and maybe don’t use Mixt Greens boxes? Prices: The prices are out of control. I mean, just totally unrealistic. They are already tacking on a service charge to pass the fair wage tax onto us customers, so how do they explain things like…+$ 2 to put Parmesan cheese on fries??? Do they have their own herd of cows and a dedicated team of cheese-makers that necessitate such an unreasonable upcharge? Adding dried out cheese that basically never goes bad onto fried potatoes should be MAYBE $ 0.50. I’m glad this is so convenient because it’s better than a lot of other options, but I do think they can improve. It’s still pretty new though…

Yet another sandwich and salad option in the FiDi, except different. They have huge spits roasting chicken and porchetta all day long. They shy away from deli meats instead opting for sandwich fillings(or salad toppings) like fried chicken, pulled pork and sausage patties. More like a fancy sandwich that you’d get a at Farmers’ Market stall than a generic work lunch joint. Fried Egg Sandwich w/Homemade Sausage: This rivals my other favorite sausage patty breakfast sandwich at Super Duper. Flavorful homemade pork sausage patty seared on the outside but juicy on the inside. Lots of savory cheese. The egg was fully fried, though it might have been better if it were slightly runny. The bread was soft and chewy, which worked really well since you don’t want to crunch through hard rolls at breakfast. The arugula made it seem partially healthy. Crispy Chicken Parm: I was tempted to get the porchetta, but I love chicken parmesan, so I couldn’t resist. It was somewhat reminiscent of chicken parm sandwiches that are periodically offered by fast food chains, but with much better ingredients. The crispy chicken was a little soggy, where touching the tomato sauce, by the time I got back to my office. But the non-soggy chicken portions were nice and crunchy. I would have preferred more sauce since the bread seemed to absorb a bunch. The fresh basil and cheese was a nice touch.

I realize this establishment is new and they are working out the quirks — so hopefully this review will be taken as a suggestive review. When a customer orders a burger, the person behind the register should always ask the customer«how would you like that cooked?» Person behind registered asked me what I wanted then she rang me up and asked for payment. Only when I realized this I blurted out«I wanted my burger cooked medium rare.» She realized the error and quickly got it on the receipt however the information was not conveyed to the person cooking the burgers. Either that, or the person cooking the burgers doesn’t realize that there is a certain delicacy to cooking a burger and many people like their burgers cooked differently, such as: rare, medium-rare, medium, and well done. With a $ 13+ purchase I thought there would be a side of something, maybe a small garden salad or fries = NOTHING! The service was prompt — this was a clue that my burger was not cooked to my order. To my dismay, I was right, I received a dry, overcooked burger with one bacon strip($ 2 mark-up) which was barely detectable, half of a half of(this is not a typo) tomato slice, 2 small pickles and a few pieces of sliced red-onion. Worst hamburger ever‼! And I should know, I eat them often. I was honestly excited to see Split Bread open up and was hoping they would offer a better alternative to the $ 20+ hamburger I once purchased from Louie’s(at least Lou’s cooked my burger to order, gave me ample amounts of bacon($ 2 mark-up) and choice of a side), but sadly, after what I received today, I think I will continue to reserve my burger orders for Bell Tower.
